A great (fairly simple) mod you can do with these is to pop open the left plastic circle on the cable side and solder a 3.5mm cable input on them. They become super nice for things like VR
Great review. I've just bought a set and I'm really impressed so far. I wanted an affordable set of headphones that were clear, and with good instrument separation for mixing my recordings - and these certainly deliver. My only complaint is that the outside of my right ear stated to ache because of the clamping force after a while. I was wearing them for about 3 hours though, and I also have quite a big head so I can't really grumble.
According to design i think the Samson SR850 is made by Taiwan's headphone brand Superlux, the Superlux HD681. I'm a big fan of this brand, the sound is more than a gorgeous. I have the updated model Superlux HD 681 EVO, 2 pieces. The second one is in case the first one broken. I use it for more than a 3 years almost every day and it's still okay. I highly recommend to test it!

I buy this in 2013 in a travel. Was kinda weird when the man told me: yeah they are good... 40 euros... When you travel, it's true you won't spend money in things like this but God, what a good purchase! It's true I have keep it them safe, trying to not let them fall and all that, but they're very resistant. And obviously, they sound gorgeous. I have a SH201 (for the office) and the cable split in parts, horrible. Glad to know Samson keep doing this. PD: mines aren't soft, they are a kind a leather ear pad, a little harder for my taste, but they have improved... very good.
These are sweet headphones... However, to anyone planning on using these on PS4, you’ll need an amp to be able to her fine sounds (footsteps are quiet in BF5 when plugged into controller at full volume.) great video my man!
I have these. Great sound especially for the price. And the long cable is a bonus. But I've got big ears, and wear glasses, an as these are on-ear, not over-ear, I get sore ears after a a couple of hours.
I love these headphones, and dropped into this video to get some confirmation bias. Listening to this video with them. When you cut in the songs, I felt it 🤣🤣🤣. These headphones are great if you have a limited budget and want a pure balanced sound. I also noticed that I can guess the location of footsteps in games a lot better than my previous set and music sounds amazing. Also I have an LG V60, and its DAC is excellent with these headphones too. On PC I use these EQ settings for general use: i.imgur.com/Di7uXwV.png although EQ is always relative and personal.
My SR850 started breaking down after 3 years of use. I see some Amazon reviews where people had them broken in a much shorter time. Here's what I liked about SR850 : - sound quality - fully acceptable. I enjoyed both communicating with my colleagues (working from home) and also watching movies, listening to music (light rock, ambient, world music, ethnic electronica) and gaming. SR850 has a pretty neutral sound. - comfort - they were on the tight side at first but keeping them stretched on a pillow for some days helped a lot :) However, I have a small head, I'm a short and skinny person. Otherwise, they were just fine for all the years. No sweating at all. However, the top band was a total grease collector and also felt too warm on my head sometimes. - open back. I need to hear people around me. What's wrong with SR850 , you'll ask? - build quality - they have served me well for about 3 years but now they are falling apart. Essentially, all the plastic pieces just broke at the places around screw holes. I shouldn't ask for more, I guess, for the price I paid ($40, if I remember correctly). - the cord is smearing my clothes. I cleaned it with alcohol and whatnot, and still, after a few days, I always notice a dark spot on my clothes at that exact location where the cord rubs at my chest.
@@zipel They are actually velvet. They survived pretty well. I washed them a few times though. The rubbery stuff that holds the pads onto the earcups started shedding off some kind of sticky inner skin, but still had no problems holding onto the earcups. The inner padded foam disks got very thin and have almost holes in them because my ears were rubbing against them. I'd say, if you want to keep the earpads in better condition than I did, you might want to replace them after two years or so, depending on usage. I used them as my working headphones 8 hours a day. Now I'm using Beyerdynamic DT880Pro Black. At first, I was surprised to hear how bassy DT880Pro sounded, SR850 seemed tinny in comparison. But then I found out that DT880Pro Black has been manufactured with different kind of earpads (black) from non-Black, and that makes the sound more bassy and less detailed in high mids; so I'll have to buy the original (grey) earpads if I want more neutral sound... which might make them sound closer to SR850 :D Still, when wearing DT880 my ears don't touch the foam disks and thus feel more comfortable.
Bro, is Samson sr850 sound better than bh049 in you opinion. Which has more details, clarity and surround sound???? Which should buy only for clear music listening????
I bought both side by side (as a service to the community of course). Skip the Superlux, the Samsons were easily better. Bass, "musicality", treble all noticeably better IMO.
Saw your review of these headphones as my Turtle Beach Headset mic broke and a buzz developed in the right can(there are 4 speakers on each side). So I decided I would get a nice OPENBACK headphone and add a simple boom mic. So off to the local guitar store I went to sample some headsets. The first thing is the headphones I liked were way too expensive and second I wasn`t about to mod a $300-$400 headphone. As I mostly game and listen to music on you-tube $300 headphones would be a waste. So searched the web for headphone reviews and found yours. Ordered the Samson SR850 Pro Studio and a 1/8" extension for my boom mic mod which I velcro`d to the left side of the SR850 to make a gaming headset. Got out my Alpine home theater/car audio setup DVD disc and proceeded to brake the Samsons in. JDA.... these headset sounds just as great as the ones I tried out ( made in Germany, name starts with B and ends with C ). Gaming is awesome and I can hear my wife calling me when she needs me. Musically there are very natural sounding and I`m really glad I found your review. I `ve never heard of this brand before, but I'm glad I took your advice and tried them. Loving them as I type this, but I need you to do me a favor... can you do some microphone review with amp etc.?
These were not good for my wide head. It would not have mattered how soft the ear pads were, because it put pressure right on my temporal arteries. I couldn't position them anywhere to avoid this. This was right in front of my temples where my jaw connects. It would actually cause my jaw to pop a little every time I swallowed as I wore these. And that was with them stretched out a lot before I put them on. Caused a massive headache after 2 minutes of wearing them. Like a migraine that lasted for an hour. And I never get headaches and am pretty healthy (it was a strange headache, too; like my head was about to blow up and I was dizzy). Just the way my jaw line is and my head width. If the headphone part swiveled in and out a little bit, like most do, it probably would have been fine. I had to return them to zzounds. I got the Phillips SHP9500, and they are perfectly comfortable (and do swivel). Could probably accommodate a bigger head than mine. But they also came out to $90 after taxes, etc. at B&H Photo (they have the one without the /s designation in the model which means it has the 3 meter cable instead of 1.5 meter). They were more expensive than the SR850, but more comfortable. I wanted to point this out for people with very big heads and looking to buy these. They don't swivel so might put pressure in a bad spot.
Coldest verse? i see it mate.. lemme just give you a better one from the 80's also "Dave the dope fiend, shootin' dope, who don't know the meaning, of water nor soap" If Eric's verse is the coldest, than Rick's must be the Slickest! LOL XD
@@NewStuffTV1 Yeaaaa mate! Let's just chill for a while and have some quality time with 80's hip-hops 😂 Show Biggie, Eazy E, and 2pac some love mate. It's a weekday anyway LOL 😂😂
Yeah, as great as they are, (the first hip-hop example shook my ears in a very precise way :-)), they're not indestructible, I just managed to mess-up the cable's connection to the earpiece (so that my left channel is now breaking up), just like you warned. There has to be a way to fix this without buying a new pair.
I enjoyed watching the review on the new cans. I've been telling you those thing rock. You know you've kinda blew them off because they're wired. Gotcha, OPEN BACK......hahahahahahahahahaha
Nooo way that's so cool! My name is Antoine too! Btw great video. If you get things a bit more straight to the point, detailed, brief, know what you're saying; fix your lighting, and redo the camera angle, plus with a more intriguing thumbnail I'll guarantee you, your channel will look like a million bucks! Your personality had so much potential bro 😄 keep it up 👍
So from what I can hear is that these open-back headphones are not ideal for outdoor public use, this is only good if ur alone or in a quiet place... want to buy it but the downside is the sound bleed
