Currently in China... When Iphones first came out they were seen as a luxury good and people were showing them off. Phone cases would have a cut out so people could see the Apple logo and there were plenty of copy-cats. I was a huge Android fan until I moved to China. Partly because of the "great firewall" Android was not a good option. I had a Xiaomi phone as well, but the hardware just didn't last. I just bought an Iphone 13 yesterday and the customer support in China is really good. (Also there are plenty of repair shops that can fix Apple product more easily)
@@EggEnjoyer It’s a luxury reliable product, which is why people love it, so ofc, one of those features will be showing it off, hence the cut out cases
@@EggEnjoyer you’re twisting my words. I didn’t call them better than other products so why bring that part up? They’re a social factor yes, meaning a status symbol and ppl like them for that social factor, meaning it’s a luxury status symbol. To them. “Hardly luxurious”, nope, they’re very luxurious in those that see it as that
This is VERY WRONG. Androids users in China practically never experienced Google play services before. There is NO WAY there would make consumer choice based on the lack of Google services in preference over Apple. They simply do not have frame of reference on that one. Obviously, you wouldn’t know that cuz you are not Chinese. You are speaking as a non-Chinese living in China who had experiences with Google Play and related services before.
The CCP will use tesla and other EVs to know exactly where you went even if you switch off your phone and don't want to be tracked. Of course there are cameras right now that do some tracking but nothing like pin point location.
@@thunderb00m Every gov does that, the ccp is just vocal about it, and this is not a conspiracy theory Edward Snowden revealed everything years ago, I don't know why people still pretend like China is a unique case, all govs are a threat to individuals.
China invited Tesla to china to allow other Chinese EV companies to copy tesla's technology and eventually dominate EV industry. This is what happened in electronics industries.
@@tayloryoung4974 yeah a lot of people fail to realize no one is forcing Tesla to do the deal, they still went in despite knowing how Chinese companies and government do business. So at the end of the day, it's just business and nothing new.

This is my first video I’m not even 10 seconds in but as soon as I see “criminally underrated” in a comments section I’m gonna subscribe first and ask questions later👌🏽
What a superbly researched and put together video on one of the most important topics of our time. Apple’s bargain with China and business prudence there is a story unique to 21st century capitalism and one we shouldn’t ignore.
China is the future. there is no doubt. I am learning Chinese! Look at the top 10 power langauges: English, Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, German, Arabic, Hindu, Portuguese!
I remember backing in the early 10s, everyone around me were saying that Samsung usually get slow really fast and that they wouldn’t buy a Samsung as their next phone. I blame for lack of localisation (e.g. for mega apps like WeChat), early success+bad Android optimisation, note 7 incident as reasons behind the downfall for Samsung in China.
I had a Galaxy s2, was nice at first but ended up being the worst phone I ever had. Tried again with the s5 and s9, good phones but lack of long term support meant they were obsolete 18 months after purchase. I’m sticking with Apple sadly for the time being.
I always learn a lot from your videos and it's easy to understand.I guess I formed my unique preference in choosing a phone or gadget with the help of your channel. Keep it up!
Incredible how some people spend on highend gear then limit the sound quality with compressed Spotify. Instead, it's much better to use a lossless streaming source like Apple Music.
What fascinates me the most in Apple's history with China is how Westerners who are supposedly attached to "Human Rights" pretend not to see what Apple is doing in China.
Pompeo took ETIM off the terrorist list to mess with China, go figure. "Human rights" is just a game. China always has human rights issues, but it only becomes a topic when the US wants to haggle on the trade deal or achieve other geo-political goals. Germany needs the US approval to build Nordstream 2, so their media doesn't talk about the US droning weddings and hospitals.
IMO, this TechAltat video is by far the BEST Marton has put out, in terms of research, presentation and more... The Information density in this video is insane. Great Job... 👍👍 A couple of times I even had to rewind to catch up with what he is saying...
If Apple run on android it would be like samsung as well. it is competition, the most intensive on earth. chinese brands offer much better value than samnsung but apple run a different os to carve out a separate market.
simple answer: by Trump targeting Huawei. Basically the market share Huawei lost due to access to chips (TSMC 7nm), goes to Apple and Samsung, and especially Apple. And of course, Apple must provide great customer service and products, as well as marketing to win this portion of market against dozens of competitors in the Chinese market.
Can you do a video about Apple in Australia 🇦🇺 ?? It’s almost impossible to find an android user here in Australia. 😅 it’s a small market due to our population but I’ve always wondered why Samsung failed here and even the likes of Oppo is struggling
a lot of people still have androids in Australia but its probably gonna become less and less as young people all love apple and hate androids since it's 'budget' and on twitter & tiktok u get clowned for having androids
Most Android players are Chinese. How's current Australian media paint China? I think anyone who watches Australian news cannot avoid got brainwashed, if you check ozbargain, you can easily spot anti-china comments on every Chinese phone deals. Like they are cheaper than Samsung they must put some sort of untold secret espionage thing inside the phone to track every Australian and the result is obvious, people tend to not buy Chinese phones. Samsung phones generally are not decent IMO, mediocre at best, Nokia phones don't feel Scandinavian at all and they are worse, Google basically treats Pixel as device that demonstrates latest technology, and they are pricey and looks boring. Sony quit. So only Apple.
Huawei sells their phone cheaper in Australia than they are in China offers more for less cost, like give Sonos or GT Watch or Huawei photo portable printer or discount with gift card through Telstra at JB hi-fi as bonus, Huawei is the only Chinese mobile company spent a lot on marketing in Australia, but when people see Huawei's ad they immediately think it's CCP propaganda, thus I never saw a white person using Huawei phone, least in WA, all Huawei users I spotted are Asian and presumably Chinese. I guess Huawei already proved what's so called wasting money to other Chinese players. Xiaomi's strategy seems spent almost none of marketing, but actually they do a lot, that's one of the misconception, they just using different approach and works well in countries like India and China, for Australia, the market is too small to care, and outright pricing of Xiaomi in Australia is terrible, Xiaomi doesn't even bother sign up with any carriers. By the way, all Telstra branded mobile phone actually is OEM by ZTE.
Ahh, most people I know love android and not apple due to apple build quality and other factors. Superficial people go for apple. Their reason always being 'they heard it was good' but can not say what is actually good about them. The masses are sheeple. US products are always promoted biasly and other products demoted, it's a monopoly.
@@glyn6185 Only morons go on twitter and tiktok, so why would anyone be bothered about what they approve. tiktok most watched video 'person falls off chair' hilarious. Watch the documentary 'Idiocracy'
Ada Lovelace didn't build the machine, Charles Babbage did, it was called the difference engine. Ada lovelace only created cards that were used to program Babbages machine, and is widely considered to be the very first programmer.
Actually, there are literally so many brands and also so many buyers, in China, that despite the newest of Xiaomi phones being reportedly sold out in minutes, they aren't able to make a noticeable spot in the chart.
It's not hard to see what Apple and the Chinese government see in each other, to have such a close relationship: the most nosy, intrusive regime in the history of mankind wants the most elaborate, all-encompassing surveillance infrastructure in the market on its team. And that infrastructure wants an advantage in the largest market in the world to gather profits from.
"Business sense" = playing nice with the CCP and not having your global services banned? Android providing subpar experience due to CCP's interference kneecaps Android flagships, while the Chinese market is abnormally skewed towards flagships. This is the tl;dr of the video.
@@Agtsmirnoff Did you not read his comment? He mentioned specs. That should tell you what he meant - since most flagships running Android outspec iPhones
@@erejnion That’s exactly what it means in the current global trade climate in case you haven’t noticed. There are no heroes or villains in this business anymore (if there ever were). Only the bottom line matters, especially as the margins in the mobile market continue to grow smaller.
You wanna know how Apple did it, that's easy. The chinese love brand stuff and luxury. Apple became the luxury brand for smartphones worldwide so ofc the chinese are greedy for Apple products.
Martin please upgrade your mic or check out the settings. there's a nasty sibilance issue with your narration; each s, t, ch, pierces my ear drums this is extremely evident in your Friday checkout videos
Your most trusted phone brand helping and collabrating with the government of a country which unleashed a bio weapon on the world and destroyed the world economy Of course it's actually FUCKING SCARY I'd rather say it ain't just scary it actually feels sinister
I cannot really follow your observation. I'm living in a large Chinese city and yes, many people have flagships, but often several years old. And the phones are comparatively cheap here, the same (European) models are often more expensive in Europe.
You may criticize for their approach with Apple, but consider that China has allowed Apple but the US hasn’t allowed Huawei, despite how great it would be for consumers, under the supposedly “freest market” in the world.
Wow. So much luxury in China in terms of phones. I don't understand the need to spend so much on a phone when its life is merely 3-4 years. (Personally I've used a phone for longer, but still)
@Purple Spark ---- In urban China people have tended to do very well economically for the last 30 years. They also have been very successful savers of their money. They believe in purchasing high quality items with their saved resources. By looking only at the initial price you're are misunderstanding the concept of value. Apple's most recent operating system supported iPhones that were 7 years old. For most of Android's history they have only been supporting phones for 2 years. Also for consumers that want to upgrade sooner, the iPhone retains its value much better than Android in a resale scenario.
I have been using my phone for work and so use apple. I used to have a flip before I started to need it for work; I thought that flips made me seem to be a hipster.
@Yamilt A. ----- While the Chinese household ratio of debt to income is very similar to the US, there are 2 very large mitigating factors that have them in far better shape: 1. A much higher percentage of Chinese debt is mortgage debt. The advantage is mortgage debt has a lower interest rate (4.5%) compared to the massive amount of credit card debt in the US which carries 18% to 21% interest rates. 2. Chinese households save 3.5 times more of their income than US households. It leaves them more able to easily service their debt.
I am both a Samsung and Apple phone user, iPhone resale value is always higher than Samsung Galaxy phone, also Samsung phone tend to lag one year later I have used Note 3, Note 20, s3, s10, s20, s21 are all the same and Samsung has lots of gimmicky features that you never use, as for Apple I have used iPhone 6s Plus iPhone 11, iPhone 12 their system is always smooth even 2 years later. If Huawei wasn’t suppressed by tue US govt. Apple won’t get the No.1 in China even globally
There are more reasons between the corporation between China and Apple than economic ones. CN government want to know everything people think and restrict their access to outer world, then Apple's security features will become a problem. Imagine everyone using Iphone or Ipad could get out of the wall to RU-vid or Twitter, or talk with eachother without them monitoring everything, not looking good for them. As for android, as every program in China can always get root access with multiple ways right after it launches, it's not a problem for them.
answer is simple: it is seen as social status in china. also these phones are bought in china and RESOLD oversees. which why it explains why apple products sell well at release.
It shows that what lgbt and human rights of the US is just talk.. coz in the first place different cultures and social norms are different and thus US shouldn’t impose it values on others.. like Apple it didn’t and respect China law and culture and it worked !
Samsung messed up during the period of edge 7 battery incident. They said there will be no recall and no compensation for any of the accidents happened in China of their note 7 or Edge 7. The News were everywhere and that's how Samsung lost the Chinese market. As a Chinese, I do believe they make amazing phones. However, after sales service is also very important. And Apple didn't messed up as much as Samsung on this.

How they succeed in China? You’ll immediately know that when you see a woman taking videos of others with the newest flagship iPhone in KFC and told the customer that eating KFC is “giving a knife to the US”
I didn't get it, what happened to Huawei? In a really short period, slumped this much !? And I also think that Apple forced CHINESE government to restrict Google services in China . 🙃
US sanctions made Huawei unable to manufacture more smartphones. As smartphones in CN market updates fast, new generation every half a year, Huawei’s old phones just couldn’t keep up with consumers’ expectations and became uncompetitive.
@@visenttou7557 I don't think that's the main reason; Huawei products were made in China and they were banned from exporting to US; But what happened in their motherland ?
@@habibinoor8674 The ban was comprehensive, not just selling to the US. They restrict Huawei from using all technologies that developed with any US patent. That includes cameras, software, screens, and of course, chips and modems. Because chip fabricators inevitably use US-based technologies, most chip manufacturers are now unable to make chips for Huawei. Therefore Huawei is limited to Chinese homebrew chips, which are 10 years behind, and a few US-approved chips with limited functions, making it unappealing to the market.
As an American, I do not care for Apple products, & after seeing the movie, I like Apple less. I had a Mac se, & the Apple dealer was not honest. I will never buy another Apple product. But, I am 60 & don't have that much longer to make a difference, do I?
At 60 years old, you shouldn't a F about any of this. You should just go live your life and not worry about any of this. When I get old, I'm not gonna give a damn about the world or who's in it. I'm gonna be chilling on a beach somewhere.
