I used to work in an authorized Samsung service center, changed a lot of batteries. We preheated the phone in an oven, 70°C and 15 minuttes. Then with an eyedropper/pipette soaking the edge with alcohol, before using the picks and sucktioncups, and in this manner, the back came off farely quick without breaking.
I'm still running a Note 3 as a secondary phone; I've replaced the battery many times; the USB socket twice and display once. It's now running Android 11 (Lineage OS 18.1, not rooted) and is still as fast as it was ten years ago.. The latest flagship Samsung phones are north of £1.5k and the only reason to have one is pure one-upmanship. Some may argue how good the cameras are, but given that the A.I. on these phones is messing with any photo taken, I wouldn't trust them to take a photo.
I will see how long i can keep the s9 running. It serves my use perfectly. I don't play games on it. Email, banking and payments and maintaining my RU-vid channel, like answering this question. The screen has a fair but of burn from icons and the virtual keyboard. Which i change from time to time. As I mentioned i have a new s20fe waiting in the wings for when this one craps out for the last time.
Smashing replacement, well worth the money:-D Those plastic plectrums are ideal. I had to replace a hard drive in a friends apple machine (the vertical standing type. i used a feeler gauge and heat gun to persuade the screen to let loose. The inside was so mucky like a p.c does. There was ribbon cables from the pcb to the glass screen, i didn't like that design.
Great video, but I will argue the phone condition comment. I am on my 6th year today and front \ back my phone 100% scratch free like it just came out of the box for the first time. Now to get the battery in.... thank you again for your video.
I liked the phones back in the day you just open up the back panel pop out the old battery throw it at your neighbor and pop in the new one . Didn't need a screwdriver or heat gun.
My mother has Samsung Galaxy S9 from AT&T! It really caught my attention to see how to change the battery for S9. On the other hand, I have Samsung Galaxy A12 and Samsung Galaxy S7 FE, and I will be ready to change the battery in the next almost 4 years when the battery wears out.
13:10 That's already happened to me, half of my daily apps I use aren't supported anymore so I am having to use the web browser instead. My Samsung is only 1 year older than that one too. I absolutely refuse to stoop to Google's level, so as long as doing my stuff on the website works, I will continue doing it that way! I'm incredibly stubborn LOL😆
I also replaced the battery on my galaxy note 8 a few months ago but managed to blew up the old battery while removing it. Luckily it still works with the new battery
I didn't have to heat my phone or pry the back off. On my Samsung S8, the battery had already done both for me! (Yes, it still works!) By the way, it's Samsung Galaxy, and Ford Galaxie.
Yes my work so blew the back and screen off and broke the glass on the back while at it. My new work phone an s10 also had a puff battery. It got the degassing pin treatment and it still works. As you saw my 5 year old so is on mint condition. It now has a new battery and it is still in mint condition. I look after my phone
I'm honestly sketched to put any phones that's been taken apart under water. Yes, new adhesive will certainly help, but to say it retains its ip rating is just hard for me to believe. Everyone be careful with your phone around water unless it's never been taken apart and you've never dropped it ever.
I put the new adhesive in the kit. I don't take my phone in the shower or swimming so I don't think the ip rating matters. I also don't use it outside in the rain.
Lithium ion cells last a LOT longer if you pay attention to minimum and maximum charge percentages. My phones (and drills) have all gone obsolete before the batteries went bad.
I appreciate you going through this, for folks that have no idea how to, when these new phones are glued in.. I just received a Samsung galaxy S9plus from a close a loyal friend.. The old phone broke, it was a Samsung galaxy J7 phone, it lasted 6 years, until it's glass face broke badly. My roommate and original owner of the s9plus gave it to me. It works find, but it doesn't open like the old J7 Dinosaur📱, so you came up, and appreciate your help.. I do have a question regarding your heat gun.. What Heat Gun brand and heat setting, and how long the heat contact to the 📱phone areas? especially when attempting this for the first time, instruction or no instructions, no disrespect to you sir? I still need to be careful
Nice job. I had to buy new phone last year because they stopped providing updates to my old phone, and indeed banking app stopped working because of this. Never had to replace the battery though, it's still working as a camera and alarm clock, just not as a phone or other online apps. Seems Samsung has now expanded the update period with new phones. The new phone I bought is Samsung Galaxy A13 (4G) and already it was updated to Android 13. Looks like it'll receive the Android 14 update as well in the future.
I watched, I don't have a Samsung, but your favorite, Life's Garbage which I have had since July 2019. I wonder if it's possible for me to change the battery in it? (Or would It be worth it?) It don't need it YET. The problems I had with phones in the past was the charging port on the phone not making a connection . Then I have buy a new phone because it has a hard time. charging.
My S9 has been in a case with the screen covered since it was new and is still like new. The battery still holds a charge for at least a couple of days.
Just curious, do you know the capacity? The original S9 battery is 3000mah but ive seen ones that have much more capacity but Im not sure of thier safety. The Note 7 incident..
You probably have a misbehaving app running in the background. Mine lasts all day but then i don't run many apps. Just yt and email and Android auto for maps.
I am curious How's the Samsung batteries like in general since I saw quite a lot on RU-vid from tech channels that Samsung have the tendency with puffed up batteries the most.
Well this one has never puffed up but my work phone an s8 did as did my current work phone a s10e. Found out why. The phone holder was in the path of the heater and warm air blew on the back when the heat was on. My s9 never leaves my pocket and thus doesn't overheat. Also my work phone was in an OtterBox case. They hold in the heat and cause battery overheating which results in puffed battery. Poke a hole in it and get the gas out and it is fine.
Batteries only get puffy like that when they're not being used or orlver discharged. If you use and charge your phone regularly that's not a huge issue.
@@RadOo I had an S20 and never had any battery issues I have a s22 ultra now which should probably be the most likely to have this sort of problem due to the higher power draw and larger battery. Android added a little indicator in the recent app menu to tell you apps running in the background, ever since I started keeping a leash on the stuff running my battery life skyrocketed
@@JessicaFEREM never over discharged or over charged my work phone and the so did it twice as has the S10. I had to open it again peel the tape off and let the gas out a second time when I noticed the screen popping off again.
S9 wont be supported much longer as you cant update to the new UI & wont update to the latest Android 13 & many apps will not update & wont work anymore like my S8 did. Some apps will continue to work with no issues.
At least you are not a trendy yuppi insisting on an i phone which has serial number chips in the battery that must be programmed by a dealer. I dont get it.
@@12voltvids If you're talking about updates i hate to admit Apple is better in that regard. They always update their older phones until they physically cannot run the newest software. No Android has ever gone that far.
@@enzoperruccio the first and only apple product i owned was an iPod touch. I even bought the fancy Sony speaker with a subwoofer for it. After a few years I wanted to add some more music and iTunes said I had to update. I did because it wouldn't run. The. iTunes said i needed to update the software on my iPod. No update available. Apple offered to allow me to trade up to new one. One with a different connector that would render my 500 speaker useless. So don't lie about apple. They started this bullshit. They intentionally slow their phones down to force upgrades.
@@12voltvids In my own experience their phones are the ones that hold up the best when it comes to software compatibility. You see waaaay too many people still using an iphone 6 (which is a 9 year old phone at this point), yet I've never seen someone using a Galaxy S7 (which is 1 year newer). So you tell me which brand is worse.
Its the only time I have changed the S9 and if you see the phone it looks like new. I am using that phone now. You can't tell it has been open. I don't change phone batteries much. In fact I have only changed. An S9, S9 and S10e.
If Samsung doesn't update your firmware anymore, you could look into flashing a newer one made by people on XDA. I haven't done this in years, especially on Samssung phone since it will trip KNOX and you might get locked out of installing banking apps. Samsung phones are the most locked down.
I took the old adhesive off with alcohol and stuck the new adhesive strip that was in the kit on. So yes it is stick back on the same way as it was done at the factory. You can't tell it has been opened.
