I got my Note 9 in 2018, and it's only now having issues in 2023. I hate to replace it with a different phone because this is by far the best phone I've owed.
Yes! Same. I've heard it's due to service towers fazing out everything below 5g. I've cleaned up my 9, transferred what I could to cloud and sd card, it helped slightly, but not the cause for lack of service. Not receiving calls, texts, unable to open email, etc. If not for connection, I'd stick to my 9. Love it! Not even interested in the S series, I like the option of the spen and removable memory.
I think I'll keep my Note 9 for now. 👍 I find the headphone jack, iris sensor, notification led and heartrate monitor very useful. In addition, Samsung should bring back other useful features like the IR blaster as well. Give us our money's worth. 💰
Note 9 is the best phone I have owned. Galaxy S4 was my first android and I loved it. Then I got S7 Edge and loved it even more. I got Note 9 on release and can't find a true reason to upgrade. A little bummed that Note 9 won't get android 11 but I'm still keeping this phone for years to come. Truly a future proof phone. I have the 128GB with 6GB of ram. Phone still runs very smooth to this day.
Note 9 was my first flagship phone and I love it. Using the SPen was a great experience. Recently I upgraded to Note20 Ultra and the experience is amazing. I love both of these phones.
I love my Note 9 in lavender, it's the best phone I owned, it's gonna be 2 years old in October .. No issues with the phone so far .. The battery life is just not the greatest nowadays. I always carry my battery pack and charge my phone 2 or 3 times a day ! Yet I am gonna upgrade to the Note 20 Ultra Mystic Bronze with the Earbuds Live ❤
I CANT get rid of my note 9 It is the best. And i cant betray this amazing phone xD Whenever I think of getting a new phone i feel ashamed of my self 🤣
@@ryzech4168 it's having no one like the phone either because it's too thick or because of the camera protrusion. IMO the protrusion is ok when you use a case
Note 9 is just a solid piece of equipment. Maybe a tenth of a second slower but it give you the same experience. Great camera and features. Still using mine🤘
This is the kind of comparison we needed most other reviewers are comparing the note 20 to s20 or note 10 plus but realistically many will be wanting to upgrade from a note 8 or note 9
A fool and his money is easily separated. Why upgrade if you have a device that's still in top notch condition? I'm keeping my Note 9 for at least 3 more years or if it becomes a security issue which ever comes first.
I agree with you man. I was going to upgrade to the note 20 ultra from my note 9 today, but I am going to stick with my note 9. It works great still! The best phone I've ever owned. I'm not sure trading my note 9 for the note 20 ultra is really an "upgrade". I can afford to buy the note 20 ultra and keep my note 9, but I like my money more than this option.
@@PotentialDifference1 you know was about to update too, but this video reminded me that it's still a beast.. It can upgrade to android 11 but Samsung i doubt will do so
i have the note 9 with five hundred gigs got it brand new in nov 2018 with a corporate discount for six hundred. why should i buy the note 20 ultra? if my current phone is flawless??
Update, I just ordered the Note 20 Ultra. I couldn’t pass up the great deals that Samsung has going right now. I picked it up for $499.99 with a $300 trade in for my N9. They gave me $50 for accessories and some free samples of RU-vid Premium and Sirius XM . Goodbye Note 9 . Hello Note 20 Ultra.
@@madkap2428 $500 for a new Ultra? Right now they offer only $150 for my Note, with only small discount on top. Comes to around $950. :( The other day I resorted to getting one in new condition from Amazon Renewed for $780. Hopefully won't regret that, haha
Headphone jack, iris scanner, notification led, s pen on the right, no camera bump, no punchole/notch, pressure sensitive home button, expandable storage, etc. The Note 9 still beats phones of the current generation. Truly the last great Samsung flagship ever.
Had my Note 9 for 3 yrs, still love it. But craving the 20 Ultra so badly especially in bronze, so bought one on Amazon Renewed for a decent price. Will keep the Note 9 though, it's too good to sell (and wouldn't get much for it anyway)
This phone is the best during this COVID-19 pandemic. 1. Unlock with the iris scanner while wearing a mask. 2. Avoid dirtying the screen (and your face) with the back-facing fingerprint scanner, and it also recognizes gestures. 3. SpO₂ sensor to monitor your heart rate and oxygen saturation if you are sick. 4. LED indicator without touching your phone. 5. SD card slot. 6. 3.5mm headphone jack. 7. No punch-hole selfie camera. 8. Stylus.
been using note9 for almost 2 years , i plan on keeping it another full year . ( i usually bought shittier phones that needed an upgrade every 2 years , glad to see the investment payed off , also better experience with the flagship phone :D) . Also i really don't want to trade the 3.5mm jack , even tough i don't use it daily . Camera could have been 16-20mp , and battery to last more and FM radio , but othervise it's the perfect phone
I've been thinking about switching, just because I can tell my phone has been overheating alot, and it's just really laggy now. I may try to hold out until around Christmas time, and get the note 20 ultra then. I still am so in love with that bronze color too!
Have a note 9 that got a broken screen after years of abuse - should I get the Note 20 Ultra or S22 Ultra or should I just fix my screen and keep my monies for better days?
My nephew gave me his note 20 ultra (he bought a smaller iphone 13 mini for himself), I tested cameras side by side today, and decided to stick to my note 9 :) The photos by 20 are less detailed, flat, and out-of-focus-ish. However it produces a nice bokeh, and video stabilization is awesome. I find the screen of my note 9 is better as well. I was surprised by the photo comparison. I was expecting a better performance by 20.
Nice Video. I wish I have watched this before I bought the Note 20 Ultra. I have recently got my Note 9 in the sea and it got damaged beyond fixing. I then purchased the Note 20 ultra 5G which was a mistake as I hated the fingerprint sensor and I wonder why Linus Tech Tips never updated his Note 9. The reason why I bought the Note 20 is when I heard Samsung will not release a Note 21 this year due to a chips supply issue. If I can then I will sell the Note 20 and go for the Note 9 (512 GB with 8 GB RAM). I think the 8 GB RAM is the only serious contender in front of the Note 20 as the 6 GB was slowish.
It is very interesting how despite the fact that 4 years have passed, the difference in "speed" is very, very little, for what it costs today this note9 is a thousand times better than any mid-range without doubt
As far as I'm concerned its a downgrade. No jack, no eye sensor, no heart rate monitor, no stress monitor and no blood oximeter. Those features I used quite a bit. That's the end of the line for note series phones for me and possibly Samsung phones altogether. Also only the crappy exynos chipset is available, no incentive to upgrade to this phone at all. Unless there is another worthy Android out there I may just stray to apple this time for a different experience.
Lol wth is this comment??? I used to owe a note 9 until i upgrade to note 20 ultra. Ultra is definitely better. Just w/o thr headphone jack. Other than that note 20 ultra is wayyy better brother. Wake up
Just watched the video, and agree with your review, the Note20 Ultra is the better phone in every measurable metric. However its merely an incremental (small incremental) step above the Note9. The Note9 is still a £1000 phone (build & component quality) all be it now 2 years old (now £400). Is the £1500 Note20 Ultra 3x the value of Note9... no IMHO, if you have the Note9 stick with it until it breaks and save £1500.
Thank you for making this video I currently have the note 9 and was looking for a new phone (due to a cracked screen) in the note family but I'm very stubborn when it comes to my headphone jack and my extended micro SD space. Although I heard that the international version has the extended Micro SD but as someone who lives in the US im not sure if it's worth it or just buy another note 9🤷🏿♀️
I was plamning to upgrade from my Note 9 to Note 20 Ultra. But thanks to your video, il wait for a couple of months for thr price to go down and then upgrade. Thank you. I would really like to have a video on the default Samsung apps that work differently in both these phones. Thank you
So my note 9 has a history of 129 cycles on accubattery so I am sure to report that my note is on 3401mah from the original 4000mah battery. My phone was charged a total of 248 506 mah. I see little to no reason to change, I am more incline to open the phone and swap the battery, since the phone are horrible expensive now days. I got this one for 500 used after 2 or 3 months of release and the new is for around 700. Selling mine will be on the 350 - 400 neighborhood and the new will be 650 to 700. So 300 more is not worth it in my opinion... I will wait for the battery to drop to 3300 mah and change it.
@@ioneliamandi173 accubattery, measuring battery capacity is not easy at all, because its a reaction happening on your phone. You have to do it over time, and I have more than 200+ cycles to check. I recommend at least one week, then sweet spot would be at one month or so
I got my Samsung Note 20 Ultra on day 1. I still haven't turned in my Note 9 for tmobile 500 bucks yet. To be honest.. the only thing better is the camera. The service is better on the Note 9, that's a fact. I work in the transportation industry and notice my Note 9 had a lot better service than this 5g Note 20. I also love the fingerprint on the front screen with the note 20, it works a lot better than the back of the phone like the note 9. Want advice? Save your money and keep the note 9.
Galaxy Note 9.No doubt is the best. It's old but still good and runs smooth and can do about anything the Note 20 can do. Note 9 and Note 10 plus are both very good models tbh.
I upgraded from an Exynos S9 Plus, international model which I got for cheaper on ebay in 2018, I live in the U.S. I have the Note 20 Ultra Snapdragon 865+ model and love it! This is my first Note! I would've kept going with the S9 plus but my screen was very scratched and back glass was cracked. I remember when the Note 9 in August 2010 came out and I had some regret with the S9 plus which I got May 2018. Note 9 looks like an awesome phone! So happy I got the Note 20 Ultra. If I owned a Note 9 and took care of it with tempered glass screen protector and reliable case, I would continue keeping it. My S9 plus was doing fine but I stupidly didn't take care of it. Many tech RU-vidrs promote going caseless but they drown in an abundance of phones. The normal person buys one thing and sticks with it. I plan on using my Note 20 Ultra for years to come. Tempered glass screen protector on main screen and camera lens with a nice case! On CPL launcher so everything is lean and optimized. 120hz display is amazing!
Thank you for your video.. I've been thinking about making the upgrade because my note9's battery is going dead.. bad.. now I'm more confused than ever.
I have a Note 9. It was built to be a primary Note. Now there is the premium Note 20 Ultra, which to me should have more in common as they are both premium phones, and the Note 20 which I think was built to be more cost efficient and affordable for the consumer. I don't know if I want the Note 20 Ultra or the Galaxy Z Fold 2.
So obviously you've made your decision by now, but I'm just seeing this. I own the Note 20 Ultra and the Z Fold 4. My take on the Fold vs the Notes/S Ultra is wether or not you care that much about multi-tasking. I take advantage of the Folds extra screen real estate. If you're someone who doesn't care about that then just go for the Ultra Version of the S lines. I sent my Fold 4 back to samsung for that free screen protector replacement and am using my Note 20 Ultra in the mean time. It's still a great device. I have a friend that's using my old Note 9 with no issues to this day
I want a Note 9 FE/Note FE 2 😍 (A Real FE Seriously) Improve/Add ⤵️ • A Multiple Rear Camera Setup (Like The Note 20 Ultra) • Improved Front Facing Camera • 120 FPS Or More! (With WQHD+ Compatible) • Improved S-Pen • Bigger Battery • Snapdragon 865+ Or 875 (No Exynos!!) • Gorilla Glass Victus • 5G • Minimal Edge • Dual Front Facing Speakers (Like Sony's Flagships) • Quad DAC • Reverse Wireless Charging • Ir Blaster! • Temperature/Humidity Sensor! (Like The Note 3) • 12-16GB Of Ram! • 256-512GB Of Base Storage! Keep⤵️ • A Slim Top & Bottom Bezel • iris Scanner • Fingerprint Scanner • Heart Rate Monitor • Micro SD Card Slot • 3.5mm HEADPHONE JACK!! (lol) ------------------------------------- Do You Agree? A "Galaxy Note 9 FE" With All Of The Above? Or A "Galaxy Note 4 FE" (Including The Removable Battery & The Original "Heavy Duty Frame"!💪🤔👌🏼) With All Of The Above? -------------------------------------
I can guessed that upgrades haven't come far enough, and i was right. There isn't enough reasons for upgrading note 9 to anything else, specificly note 20. Maybe note 30 or whatever it will be called, could be better, but what i am seeing is that, pumping new phones every years, proves that upgrades aren't been done at the same speed.
In the beginning of the video you have been saying that the Note 9 is in some ways better then the Note 20 ultra, but during the whole video you are showing that the Note 20 is better (it should be)... anyway, I like this video and to me it is comparing a ferrari with a lambourgini, both great phones. But did you ever mention the S-pen and the functions of it? Not at all. And THAT'S one of the main reasons why you would buy a Note Phone. That's why it is called Note...to make notes. Don't forget the Pen, it is essential to this phone.
@@k4piii 2.5 hasn't been out that long I think you mean 2.1 which did just recently update the note 9 but not sure about one ui 2.5. hope it does arrive officially to all by samsung, would be nice to have wireless dex
I am watching my 2 years old Note 9. Everyday 10-12 hours continuously use, stock market stuff, camera, videos, communications etc. No heatup, No Hanging. Only Battery gone after 2 years.
You're giving the newer phone the upper hand because it's newer...what's the point of that? How is that a true review? You say there's not much noticeable difference but then say 'you know, it's newer, so it's better'. Just call Samsung on their crap. I wish more people would just be honest.
I have a note 9 8gb ram 512 internal memory dual sim, factory unlocked. This is my favorite phone by far! I had newer samsungs note 20 ultra and s20 ultra, went back to note 9. best phone eve (at least for me). don't get me wrong, I'm sure note 20 is faster and cameras are better but battery life sucks. will wait for note 21
Is there a huge difference between 8 gb and 6gb? I am looking at the 128gb 6gb one for 300 and I don't really want to spend more than that. I have the tab s6 with 6gb of ram and its perfectly fine for me.
Samsung did it again, wid a glossy finish look Note 20 ultra n Note 20 r a downgrade with only incremental few new features on the camera n phone software. One thing i really hate in the newer Samsung phones is the missing LED notification lights which I can't live without. Having some new specs for enormous pricing doesn't serve any purpose to the consumer. Its like sayin we will rip u off for money for an average yet new Toy. The color saturation n purity on Note 9 still far exceeds other newer samsung flagships. I am in Love with my Note 9 n would really advise anyone choosin btwn note 20 ultra vs note 9, to go for Note 9 hands down. You r not missing on much plus ur getting a superior functional device for reasonable money. Consumers have really smartened up after their disappointments in newer flagships. Save yr money n upgrade to the best device Note 9 which can serve u a lifetime. Note 9 was n is the last true Note n is here to stay. Thats one of the other reasons y its so hard to find n purchase because its an overall marvelous device. I was really disappointed with Note 20 ultra n upgraded to Note 9. I would never change my Note 9 with an amazing battery life untill 2050, Good luck to everyone again !
