Samsung Galaxy Note 20 vs Note 20 Ultra | InsideTech Review.
The Galaxy Note series has traditionally embodied the very best Samsung has to offer, and with the new Note 20 Ultra this certainly seem to be the case. But with the regular Note 20, Samsung have taken numerous shortcuts in order to keep the costs down. The Note 20, with all of its shortcomings, still costs $1000 dollars - a flagship smartphone compromising in all areas except for price. Which makes you wonder how exactly this fits into the current market with so many better value options available.
In this review, we’ll be covering all of the new features in-depth, explaining all of the differences between the two phones - and finding out which of these offers better value for your money. We'll also be discussing the issue of the Snapdragon vs Exynos models, which has become a big problem!

What is the micron size if 108 MP mode is not turned on?

@@niteshapte Samsung doesn't provide this information. But if this is the same sensor as the S20 Ultra (which it might be) then the 12 MP mode has a 2.4 μm Pixel size

@@insidetechltd Do you mean 2.4 μm or 1.4 μm? If it is really 2.4 μm then the size of picture should be large even in the normal mode. But I didn't find that's the case when I tested the camera. When I took picture of an object in normal mode in daylight, the size of the picture was around 2 MB only. Is it possible that the size of the picture be that small if pixel size is 2.4 μm? The reason I am asking this because I currently own Note 10 plus and picture taken by it of the same object has similar size i.e. around 2 MB only.

@@niteshapte I mean 2.4 μm. The file size isn't necessarily dictated by the pixel size. It's about all of the information that's captured - that's what determines the file sizes. The S20 Ultra, for example, can capture images with file sizes of 2.6 MB (just to give one example). So this proves that point.

@@insidetechltd Okay got it. I was under impression that larger the pixel size, larger the size of picture. I used to own Note 4 Edge. It had 16 MP camera and pixel size was 1.6 μm. Pictures that I took using it had larger size compared to the ones that I take currently with Note 10 plus. For example, I took this one (scontent-jnb1-1.cdninstagram.com/v/t51.2885-15/e35/83072037_472357876813601_1884617009917933630_n.jpg?_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.cdninstagram.com&_nc_cat=105&_nc_ohc=BtNHNfanO40AX-CTMwD&_nc_tp=18&oh=f1a13d0af4ac162ccb978117f2f2846a&oe=5FA11084) with Note 10 plus and it's size is around 3 MB. And image of same object with Note 4 Edge is around 8.5 MB. So, all these made me think that if pixel size is large then file size is also going to be large. But thanks for clarify. Great review! Let me just say that I've had the ultra 5G (beautiful black) - used it for months - but it's enormous and way too heavy for daily normal use (can´t fit anywhere) . I ended up trading it for the "lesser” but smaller (and in reality much more practical) regular Note 20. In all truth: the "plastic" back is a plus for me, the SD card is a pain to use given the major incompatibilities it offers (that put your data in risk); the curved edges (although beautiful) make most cases unusable (because they can't protect the sides), etc. So, in conclusion, I really prefer the NOTE 20 (the regular version).

Plastic over glass back any day for me. I'd actually pay more for a plastic back. Plastic doesn't shatter, is less of a fingerprint magnet and best of all, lighter. And I put a case on all of my phones anyways so the feel doesn't matter one bit.

Nice review, everything more elaborate and ebullient your content creation is straight forward but I think Samsung is pushing hard to match up the very best in phones in many aspects except for the difference in chip set is either the stick with the snapdragon, or upgrade and integrate more raw horse power efficiency to the exynos viriant of their phones. but still the note 20ultra is best in class which portrays a welcome news to the consumers and a wake up call for the competitions and if it comes between spending a thousand bucks and above between the iPhone and note20ultra the note is actually the more compelling product with more functionality and what you get on specs and out of the box period.

Excellent review! Question: The note 20 Ultra close up main lens regular photos (not live focus) for subjects like food or documents, is there any work around to get the whole subject in focus? some say if you move the phone away further from object and then do 2x zoom, would get the whole subject in focus. Is it possible you test this individually and in comparison to regular Note 20 and post it somewhere on social media so I can check? thanks

Hmm I m expecting my note 20 tomorrow from Amazon. It was a good bargain but its only today I have been thinking to go with the ultra which have now decided to and have just spotted an ultra at a good price. I m typing this on my note 8 😮 which is still doing an excellent job but occaisionally freezes for ages which lands me in huge trouble. So soon as the 20 comes I m gonna return it and get the ultra...but I heard with the note 20 there maybe issues with software updates in near future that there won't be many left for note 20...is that the same for the ultra???

My brother, I do not care for the frequency, the materials and the screen. This means that I find the regular 20 very good and I buy it, but does it differ in the camera from the ultra? Especially in the video or is it almost the same resolution? Thank you

Yes there are some camera differences, like zoom - I cover these all in full in the video. The resolution on the video is the same though

currently note 8 user, planning to buy note 20 INTL version,, as ultra is too much costly, note 20 is around 800 US$ and ultra is about 1,200 with curreny conversion? what do you suggest? thanks..

It's still a nice upgrade from a Note 8 - so if you can't stretch your budget for an Ultra, it's not a bad phone. Maybe consider the Note 10+ too if the prices are similar (expandable storage, better display etc)

Great review, as always! The regular Note 20 has no chance to be sold SIM free, because Samsung has a plethora of phones that are better deals for people that do not care for the SPen. Today they released the S20 FE at 700 EUR, plastic back, S20(ish) cameras and high refresh rate. People that care for the SPen will buy the Note 20 from the carriers and won't worry that much about the price. Otherwise, SIM free, just wait a few months for the price cuts. I bought my Note 10+ 5G a while ago for 710 EUR. However, between the two I would buy the regular one because the Ultra is cumbersome.

The best biometrics system is iris scanner on older samsung galaxy note 8 and note 9 models, this are far more superior in all scenarios. It works efficiently and effectively on wearing face mask or sunglasses or even if it's pitch black environment , it has damn good security...i just loved using this on my previous galaxy note 9 but unfortunately this tech is no longer available on newer note series this is bit disappointing and sad. Similarly samsung started downgrading it's flagship device features at present it's own older flagship deserves hat's off.

Only issue I have with not buying the note 20 and going with the note 10 plus is that I saw where they will only get one more upgrade, that sort of made my decision on either note 20 over the note 10….after upgrade stops, you are literally forced to get a new phone higher up! Let me go and find my note 20 or 20 Ultra now😁😁😁

I own a note 20 because I could get it for 850$. I love the plastic back I don't care that it's plastic as long as it feels good, it's not slippery and looks awesome. But in the other hand I hate the fact that the screen has GG5.... My last phone S8 (4 y old) had gorilla 5. It looks beaten after 4 years without a screen protector. I would have loved to keep the Note 20 also naked but I really can't do it..

You will get better low light performance in video recording with it set to 30 fps. It doesn't matter if you set the resolution to 1080 or 4k, it's the 60 fps that make everything look dark.

Not exactly, it's a little more complicated than that. It's better than the S20 Ultra, for sure. But with the other two, they kind of leapfrog each other. The cameras are essentially identical spec-wise, but I often saw better dynamic range from the main lens of the Note 20, and often more accurate colour too. But you could honestly get better performance from the S20s sometimes too, they're very close in performance and there's no clear winner really.

It's mainly due to the hardware. As with a lot of large sensor cameras, they often have issues with autofocus and capture a very shallow plane of focus. The Note 20 Ultra has a laser AF sensor to help with this, but the S20 Ultra doesn't

Possibly not. It's bright, but doesn't seem any brighter than a lot of other phones i've used this year. Hopefully they've not fooled us again!

But the real question is, who actually use full brightness? Even under direct sun light, I've never found any single person use full brightness on amoled screen. Mostly those who use device with ips lcd panel that going full brightness under the sun.

I dont mean to be picky mate , but you keep saying the base note is made from plastic , its actually not , it has a plastic back on it , that is in fact a huge difference to being made totally of plastic. We have seen this misrepresented on other youtube reviews as well . Accuracy is key if you are reviewing .

No that’s fine, be picky! Although this is a strange thing to be picky about because I’m not really understanding your point. You’ve literally said yourself that the phone has a plastic back - therefore it is made of plastic. At no point in this review have I said that it is “solely” or “entirely” made of plastic. In fact I’ve mentioned the stainless steel frame and the gorilla glass used for the phone too. But it absolutely is made of plastic, there’s no denying that. In my view, to say a phone is made of one of the materials this it is, in fact, made of is indeed “accurate”. I’m not sure which other reviews you’re referring to, but it would only be “misrepresenting” if someone was claiming it is “only” made of plastic - and I haven’t seen any reviews do that!

True, I actually intentionally left this out since Wireless Dex has not been released in its full capacity yet (likely to come in October). I didn't want to do the feature a disservice and comment on it not in its full form - so that's coming later!

I would suggest that if you have someone who looks enough like you to be able to unlock your phone through facial recognition, and is intent on doing so (and you don’t want them to) that you don’t use Face ID 👍🏼

@@insidetechltd actually I researched online and found OP8 plus most problematic issues: terrible zoom cam and the screen that not dimmable. They are quite serious given OP compete for flagship and camera and screen quality are two top considerations.

That's true, I also found the screen wasn't that dimmable when I reviewed them. Fair enough then, so are you going to pull the trigger and try to get an Oppo?
