For past year or two the level of smartphone cameras has reached a point where it's down to personal preference, because the image quality is neck to neck. They're different but great. It's like Ferrari and McLaren, they're different, but so great at what they do it's down to personal preference.
Oh heck nah, McLarens are awful to drive for extended periods of time unlike a Ferrari. A comparison between a Lexus and an Acura would be more appropriate
I NEVER buy a phone without seeing reviews. I went against that and ordered a S22 Ultra (512GB) on day 1. I am super stoked with the S22U camera given it is very similar to the S21. The 10x - 30x range on the S22U looks amazing.
In my experience review been so iphone bais I don't pay to much attention to reviews. I try the phone first always. Samsung 22 ultra fantastic camera and a great phone. I waiting for S23 ultra
The S22 mic sounds too damn clean (perfect for me)! It's cut out all the background noise and the voice is clear AF. Heavily underrated feature; I spend a lot of time making phone calls.
Yeah. Samsung took care of background noise pretty well, but it sounded to me like the sweetness is gone 😂. It sounded as if it was dampened. IPhone left a bit and it sounds perfect (at least to me). 😂
Fantastic comparison yet again, good level of detail, I think the 22 Ultra with an update will take it up a level for sure. I've made an informed decision based on this as I tend to take more photos than video. Keep up the great work on the videos Saf 👊🏽
I dont think that either phone crushes the other. It's more your choice of eco system that will sway a purchase. I'm upgrading my note 20 Ultra to the S22 Ultra. Great test Saf. 👍
@Dobbies Revenge I highly doubt they care? Honestly, it's their money and they will spend it how they will. #1 problem in this world - always worried about someone else. Ta ta.
@Dobbies Revenge newsflash, every single smartphone relies on AI and Image Signal Processing these days to squeeze as much data as possible from the wee sensors that are physically constrained. It's all about which phone has the better AI and DSP. The Xperia Pro-I, as much as it touts its camera, actually comes up with mediocre photos that are not even close to flagship level.
Dude, two years ago when i was looking for a phone your videos were clutch, and here I am again. Im glad to see you are still going. People under estimate the importance of smartphone camera reviews. A lot of people literally just use their phones as cameras and for sms. I dont care how many fps my angry birds has or how many microseconds i save loading google.
@@piyushpawar9780 I really like it more aswell, like on the normal s22. But its fine and looks preety good with a case from what I´ve seen. Guess they wanted to change a little thing at least :)
I think for the camera test you have to wait for the official release when the latest patch will arrive. Personally i've seen several videos and on many of them the s22ultra is 10 times more stable than in your videos so i think it's a sofware problem more than a hardware one. I hope you can test again after the release and verify my hypothesis. Thanks
@@enderwigin7976 The people I saw didn't use it either and it was much more stable anyway. In his video this defect is highlighted a lot and the staircase effect that gives in the video is absent in others for this I think it is a software problem that will be solved at day one
yea its just software, Samsung is always better at stabilization, if u check s21 ultra vs iphone 13 pro max, you'll see that the s21 ultra did better so it doesn't make sense for a better hardware to perform worse
And he didn't say if he was using the Exynos or the Snapdragon. We know there's been differences in how both process videos and images. That could also be the difference. The Snapdragon versions usually does a little better with the cameras than the Exynos.
I'm a heavy phone user. Like 60% of my day I'm using my phone. And I hate bringing charger or PowerBank, I would love to see a battery comparison from you Supersaf. Thank you and sending love from Philippines
Watch PhoneBuff’s battery test - it’s the most detailed one with a mix of tests and a robotic arm for accuracy. The 13 Pro Max is smashing it in the battery department, given the battery size on the S22 Ultra is unchanged from the S21 Ultra I don’t expect efficiency gains from the annual processor upgrade to close the huge real world battery gap between the iPhone.
what's insane is that p50 pro can look the same in good daylight but it kills samsung on lower light at ANY zoom range unlike samsung that is a mess between zoom cameras an all that on a 3.5x optical zoom, that's insane my friend. Samsung is still on quantity over quality with tiny sensors and in low light just the main camera is usable .
@Ady Ady it might but its down on the processor and software department, I had a p40 Pro for 3 weeks before returning it and getting a s21u, pretty happy with the p40 Pro camera quite good, but unfortunately Huawei is losing on the software department and no I don't mean goggle services, I mean emui still behind in terms of refinement compared to one ui also the screen on my s9+ was brighter and had punchier colors compared to the p40 Pro, and obviously is a lot better on my 21u specially after a software update. I really like Huawei and that's why I gave the p40pro a go, but you can't deny samsung has a better overall flagship, specially on the screen department
@BustaCap google services work perfectly fine with gspace, i can even do nfc payments, you get 90% same google experience and i got p50 pro for 800 euro while the s22 ultra will be 1200-1300E and is inferior in many ways so i'd take the huawei any day over samsung, and lack of 5g doesnt bother me, drains battery faster, more expensive bills, bad coverage and zero real life benefits, i had it disabled on my p40 pro all the time my wife has s21 ultra and simple it can't compare with p40 pro
@@adyady3099 that chinese shit will have 5 years worth of capable hardware , but 2 years of update.. also locked bootloaders . so I don't trust such manufacturers.
Great video. You have done a very good job SuperSaf. I consider the S22 Ultra better overall. It is as you said, coming down to personal preferences, but one thing I like better from Samsung is the colors, specifically when taking portraits the color black looks more real, there is too much processing on the iPhone 13 pro max. Thanks again and have a good one.
I love the Pro camera modes on Samsung phones. They give you a lot more control over your captures. I think most of the point and click comparisons are too close to call.
I agree, but the iPhone has many apps in the App Store that give you pretty much the exact same controls. Samsung doesn't allow full lense compatibility for 3rd party apps so we have to use their software. So you do have options for the iPhone.
@@pbft.j You're not wrong but I always feel like 3rd party apps never take quite as good advantage of the hardware. Stuff usually looks better coming from first party apps.
I actually love the 100x zoom. If you can get your hands on a tripod or a sturdy object, you can actually get some pretty incredible moonshots with it!
I do some astrophotography shots, and I have found out that the 10x zoom actually captured the Lagoon Neubula. Some people act like the periscope lens is only for stalkers, but being someone who enjoys all kinds of photography, it can be really cool and useful.
The S22 might need a software update for that video stutter. I own an S21 ultra and it's video is way better than this. I guess it was too early to do a camera test as the phone is yet to be launched and might need a few updates before officially launching.
@@WEEFATJAMESY no it isn't 😂. In just photos alone it is one of the best in the market, and even video is pretty damn good. Iphone is still the king of video yes,but not by a lot.
Great video, however I think this video might have been a bit premature as the S22 Ultra is expected to get updates for the cameras before the actual availability. Might be a good idea to do a revisited video a month or two months later to see how they fare, but regardless this was a great comparison as always.
@@leeelchapochapman4887 Sure because shooting pro res is something you would want to do for regular every day videos, be realistic. The iPhone is definitely the best smartphone for shooting videos but the comparison might have been a bit more even if he waited for the update.
@@leeelchapochapman4887 Thats ridiculous, no one except people who are seriously going to be professionally editing the footage afterward are going to be using ProRes. its literally an industry standard format used for film making and the equivelant of RAW for photos, no normal person will ever use it. At least be just a little realistic. Not to mention that if he’d actually used ProRes and edited the footage it would’ve come out even better than it already did on the iPhone.
@@arthurchristmas4112 Samsung fan boys live on specs on paper and gimmicky features no one uses 🤦♂️ 8k video recording? How many people do you know with 8k tvs etc? So when apple do something that isn’t realistic you highlight it yet Samsung got endless features they use to try and impress, like 100x zoom 🤣 I owned the s21 ultra for 6 months and the shots on the 100x zoom looked like they’d been taken on a potato 🥔 😂
S22 Ultra great for zoom shots to mimick DSLR shots. iPhone's camera is still more refined. Saf didn't mention the glaring violet hue that plagues samsung camera's for years. You could see it in the steering wheel tesla shot where his pants were dark, fragmenting and had patches of violet hues. It is also evident in lowlight shots where you could see it near the corners or edges of photos. In the front facing videos, in some scenarios saf looks more reddish violet as compared to the iphone's realistic tones. Lastly, in 1:58 you look at the lamppost and there it is violet/purple hue. I still enjoy my S21+ regardless. I have been on the Note 4 then the Note 5. Then jumping to the S21+ and it's still here. Sad to see it's still on Samsung's current flagship. It's subtle but eventually you'd start to see it. It's a hit or miss at times in photo mode. But you'll see it clearly on video. You can try to use Pro photo and Pro video to combat this but at the end of the day, all you wanted was to take a great normal photo plain and simple not do all this do hicky editing adjusting nonsense. Only reason you're getting the Samsung's camera is for the zoom let's be honest.
Do you know why I look forward to your comparison videos? You're not biased you say the truth it's why I like to watch your comparison video nice one man..
The S22U is still on prerelease software, usually Samsung gives updates a couple days after the official launch. I bet Samsung will improve all of these small kinks later! The problem is that no one does Follow Up videos after! 😒 I already pre-ordered 512g Green S22U and im excited!
Damn Samsung and Apple really push each other constantly when it comes to these cameras, those portraits shots were absolutely stunning from the galaxy s22 ultra. For the most part I do think that the s22 ultra is the superior camera, but it’s still close
Saf, gone are the days of major differences in the cameras. I remember the Galaxies would kill the iphone in low light and focus. These days, unless you’re on a computer analyzing each photo side by side, you would notice any difference. I would love to hear your thoughts on where these cameras will go in the future? DSLR level?
Until they can put larger sensors in phone cameras (sometimes up to half the size of the phone) there will always be a place for standalone cameras. The tech in the lenses alone makes a HUGE difference, although companies like "Moment" are working to bring high-end glass to phones as well
Still major differences in video recording between the two devices. Videos on Samsung devices still jitter a lot, and the quality deteriorates exponentially in low light, not even dark but just in-door lighting would make the image quality look horrible. On the other hand, iPhone takes perfect videos that are butter smooth even in low light.
Really happy with the S21U's performance especially considering that it's still running on pre release software. If Samsung's camera software updates are anything to go by, then I have no doubt that the S22U in the coming months will improve a lot more in every aspect!
It's great to see how far Samsung has come with in regards to this vid. In your reviews of the past, it seemed the iPhone had the step ahead with the cameras. It would appear that Samsung is getting some steam in this. I prefer Samsung but the iPhone does do some amazing things as well. In regards to durability, nothing will ever compare to the Nokia! 🤣 I know, very different phone from a different Era but it was tough to break it. I once had my Nokia fall out of my pocket and over 300 people trampled all over our, a vid review from a large old school video camera had the proof and not a thing was wrong with it. You can't compete with snake on that phone either. Great job with the vid and I'll be going to pre order my s22 today. 👊🔥
Great video! Though one thing you should have mentioned. While for sure in some cases points go to iPhone, Samsung has been known to improve the camera quality with every next software update. In this case, you have a 5 month old iPhone and most likely a pre-release version of S22 Ultra. I'm pretty sure they will improve it (or at least there is space for improvement that they may achieve soon)
just a tip...initially don't show which photo is from which device but reveal the device before continuing onto the next photo and also switch places of the device randomly...this is to prevent an android or an apple fanboy to cloud his judgment because when you say that it's up to personal preference, the preference is highly motivated by the Brand name and not the actual quality of the photo.
Great video Saf! I'd recommend taking noise into account when comparing. I'm not a big fan of pixel peeping, but by zooming in a bit and looking at the noise, pixelation, and sharpening, you can get a good idea of how good the base image is vs. AI processing compensating for poor underlying quality, detail, dynamic range, etc. Either way, great video! Thanks for the hard work!
S22 does vibrancy and colours in a very tasteful manner. This is probably the first time I have liked Galaxy photos more than the iPhone. Well done Samsung.
Very detailed comparison, thank you SuperSaf! It would be amazing to see compared S22+ and S22 Ultra to see how far they are from each other. Thanks for your hard work!
This is still pre release software and iphone has got some updates since its launch so im pretty sure with updates it will nail those areas in which it lacks a little bit 👾 also i have been waiting for this Saf GREAT WORK AS ALWAYS 💯 i have one request do this test again after some updates on S22Ultra coz last year they perfected the mistakes on S21 Ultra they are getting good in software updates and patches 🙌
To be honest, I am an android user and fan of samsung phones, but when it comes to video alone, nothing beats iphone, i have compared them over and over and it always is iphone's video thati prefer.
Even if they're both very good, the insane zoom of the S22 is a deal breaker for me since I travel a lot for work and I can't bring my dslr camera with me. Anyway I've already ordered my S22 Ultra on day 1 even before I've seen any reviews yet 😅
I know the 100x zoom isn't really useful for much. But it seems like no one ever talks about zooming into the moon. That's the main thing I use it for on the s21 ultra. The zoom on 10x at the moon looks terrible, but as soon as you go to 30x then it's so crazy how good it looks. Then 100x get slightly grainy, but it's still crazy how much you can see.
Big facts!!!! I use it on the moon alot lol, and sun because I drive across the country alot n I always get the sun set or sunrise n see the big full moon. It's beautiful
@@rickydeleon6987 Absolutely man. The first time I tried it on the moon and hit 10x I said to myself "I figured it wouldn't be that great". But then hit 30x and legit said out loud "oh shit!" Haha
@@Big-Wonka yes bro facts!!! All I could think of was UFO 🛸 lol,, because everybody has sloppy videos 📹 I swear I've seen some shit on the road at night an mid day. I wish I could post a video on here lol, it looks like 7 twisters falling from the sky just floating there almost touching ground.. it was super crazy an then some random thing appeared close in rang in the sky I couldn't even describe it,, it looked like a smashed up thing made out of pencil lead lol. That's the best I can describe it an it glowed.. every idy got down started taking pictures.. I was mind blown!!! If only I had the S22 or S21 😭
I really don't get all these comparisons. They're so unbelievably similar it all comes down to personal preference. If you want the iOS experience get iPhone 13 pro, if you want more freedom of Android get the S22 ultra. We've reached a point where every smartphone that comes out nowadays is only faster by a tiny millisecond or the camera is better by 1 pixel. It really doesn't matter anymore. Just get whatever you like.
Definitely great camera comparison 🔥🔥 But we have to wait for official patch update , and everyone will expect performance test and battery drain test , even I'm waiting for it 🔥 but what's your thoughts saf !
Thanks man for your great comparison as always! The dynamic range on S22 U wins by miles.. I'm looking forward though for camera update and some video improvements..
For photos I will take Galaxy S22 Ultra, it has improved a lot though in video department but for video's iPhone is still better for me. But this time Samsung nailed it in zoom, portrait shots and night time photos ! Great job done by Samsung ! #supersafstyle ❤️❤️❤️
Optimisation of more maegapixels sensors is not an easy Job. Samsung has mastered it using 108 megapixel. Where as IPhone still stuck with 12 megapixel. That’s why there is lot of detail in Samsung main sensor images. Where as if you zoom in to iPhone images you can literally see the splitting of pixels. So know iPhone is being Lazy. I know this because I use 13 pro.
Compare a 108Mpx RAW Picture from the S21/S22 Ultra vs a RAW 12 mpx iPhone (With a 3rd Party App) Picture and try to make them better using Photoshop. The Galaxy Picture is a other Level.
I was surprised with how well the 13 Pro did against the S22 Ultra. I think in many cases, as you say SuperSaf, it’s a personal preference. The only area where there is a clear winner is zoom. Samsung killed it. Considering the hardware specs alone, Apple should be applauded. But it’s time to up their game on zoom lenses. Big ups to Samsung for keeping the ball moving forward. Both are excellent phones with excellent features and excellent cameras. Pick your ecosystem is be happy!
Yes they are both great phones. I love my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, I also have the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 along with the IPhone 12 Pro Max which is still an awesome phone as well.
Everytime a phone launches I wait for SuperSaf for camera comparison & testing. One question though: Does camera performance vary with SD & Exynos? Going by these tests it seems Samsung is going to price it way beyond normal flagships this year.
