I've been using the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra since its release and its gotten two updates now which have dramatically improved the camera system.
I've taken well over 2000 photos at this point and the updates have only improved the S23 Ultra. However, there are still a few issues that Samsung needs to address so in this video we will go over real life examples as well as pixel peep at some images in lightroom to look at those details.
Even though there is improvement, its still not perfect so let me know if you have any questions!
Check out my preset system for editing all photos including images shot on the S23 Ultra azvisuals.com/store

Really nice to find a RU-vidr reviewing the phone/camera system in the same way that I use my Note8 and will be using my s23 Ultra tomorrow when I get it! I do a lot of photo and printing them too. I use the full Adobe CC suite including Lightroom on my phone (love the S-pen for post in Lightroom for masking etc). I totally agreed with you on the overexposure. I didn't realize that I often tune down the exposure when I take photo with S23U. However, I see a lot of users prefer to have slightly overexposed image especially the darker part of the image. People take it as high HDR but it makes the image too flat to my taste.

I've never had classes but intuitively follow what you talking about as we're both looking at the photo you select to use. I wish it if (maybe you have) that when your going into settings you could walk us through in a way that is easily followed as when your showing editing the photo. Maybe give reason for the settings you'll choose prior to the snapping the photo. In your exspecanal way of conveying what and why your choosing those settings. Camera assistant is great to hear about I'll have to check it out. Yes, the shutter isn't "lagging" the camera has simply assessed the lighting situation and set a slow shutter to let more light in, just like when you use night mode and the phone asks you to hold the camera still until it's done so it can get a proper exposure. This can be bypassed as well by using the pro camera mode but sometimes I find that I can't get as good color and exposure settings as i do if I just let the regular camera use ai (I'm still on S20FE) On a side, it's interesting that you found many of your shots coming "washed out" straight from camera. Samsung has always been known for their vibrancy but maybe they are trying to market harder to photographers and took notes of the popular cinestyle way of shooting/editing seeing as though the images edit nicely which means that all the information is present My theory about the over exposure is simply competition with the apple look. Iphone ai really likes to flatten out exposure by brightening shadows and it has a discernable look geared towards the general user who isn't a photographer

I just bought the S23 Ultra yesterday. I've been watching lots of videos and can't wait for it to come. That's a nice and honest review. The phone is great, the best of course the almost unbelievable zoom range, especially until 30x the pics are quite usable which is insane. Pro mode, especially compared to older phones, is losing its relevance since you're losing all important software gimmicks like HDR or multi pic stacking instead of just simple long time exposure. What I'm missing, not only with Samsung phones, is using auto modes but with some constant adjustments to your liking. Companies try to make the look of pics fitting to everyone's liking and every situation, one click shoot - but this will never work, never. Buying such an expensive phone I don't want the 'company knows best what's good for me approach' (rather arrogance). I want options, but of course not by doing everything by myself but to change auto mode to my(!) liking. Why is there no option slider to adjust HDR shadow brightening or HDR high light reducing in general?. Why no option slider to adjust color to something individual between insta popup colors and pure cool color DSLR aesthetics in general? Older Samsung at least had a sports mode for shorter shutter speed priority. It's gone! Why? No cam app in the world in auto mode can read my mind, e.g. if I want to take a pic of a little river with water flow smoothed out or crystal sharp. I understand they had to deliver a one-shoot auto experience as most customers are inexperienced, but doing so they are frustrating everyone who knows about foto technology. Why do you have to adjust your light room color scheme afterward? Why aren't we able to do so just out of the cam app itself directly when saving the pics file. It seem all these cam app developers were no photographers at all.

As the photographer, it's up to YOU to make the image. The camera can't read your mind and just magically know that you want a specific part of the scene exposed a certain way or that you want a specific shutter speed. Claiming something is a "problem" just because it's not what you envisioned in your mind (while also not adjusting the settings yourself or using the appropriate mode) seems misleading to me. I'm not saying this as a Samsung fanboy, but as someone with over a decade of photography/videography experience that understands that the camera is just a tool. Also for future reference, when you want to capture a fast moving subject....use the Burst mode.

Thank you, mate, for another informative video. I'm still confused as to why Samsung keeps duplicating apps. Now we have the Camera assistant, and I'm not sure why they couldn't keep all the settings in one app. Nonetheless, it was a nice video with cool presets, and I appreciate that you're an actual photographer. As an average user, I can say that the additional settings and flat images, as well as the challenge of taking close-up pictures of nature, such as flowers and leaves due to the presence of wind, may give mixed impressions of the S23U.

How come you didn’t use the pro photo for photos. You can try to reduce the blur with that since it’s a manual setting where you can increase the shutter speed. For 200 mp it’s off. My mirrorless does better but then thats a different camera than a phone camera. Still can’t beat my mirrorless regardless. I do have one issue, on the Samsung, it keeps trying to auto edit my photo when I use the regular image and use the expert raw. It ruins it so bad by overexposing it. This is something that needs to be fixed. Wondering if there is a way to turn that off?

Question: I noticed other RU-vidrs images come out flat as well. My initial reaction was "Perfect! Like a raw photo I'll have more latitude to work with when I go to Lightroom." Then I realized the avg consumer wouldn't like flat curves on their final pics. 1) Does this "flatness" preserve detail in a similar way that a raw does; 2) Does the flatness depend on defaulted outputed file format?; 3) Do you think this is intentional by Samsung??

I have found that the shutter speed issue is solved if you use Pro mode and set the shutter speed manually. EDIT: You mention that! Kudos!!

The Camera Assistant shutter hack is worth checking out. So is the exposure advice. I have shot into the sun and created some serious UFO shsped lens flares! I don't have a native Samsung tool to remove them. Overall, I am impressed with this Camera/Phone. Some minimal editing and wildlife photography works well enough for RU-vid or maybe more. The thing about hiking trail wildlife...you find it when it finds you.

@alwayshiking_ If you wanna know anything about Samsung or even iPhones just ask me I dig that up since 2015 and I am always up to date 😊 I find and try features myself that's why I backup my settings on Samsung cloud because it took me 2 years to discover it all, Samsung doesn't advertise that sadly and can't find everything on youtube or the internet. 🥲

Hi i have a question. Im planning on buying the s23 and i see that the camera quality is really good. But if you record something on the regular camera app and post in on like tiktok, instagram, whatsapp does the quality then drop alot? I heard a lot of people say that the quality drops. So maybe i need to buy the iphone 14..

There's a little bit of a dilemma, right? I have seen formidable beautiful documentaries entirely shot on I Phone. The Cinematic mode on an IPhone is a winner.

@@raccoongameryoshi it's better if you check it yourself. Both have different styles, different hardwares and different softwares. Also checkout motion cam if you are going to buy Android phones.

Did you try video? I'm getting oscillation of normal speed and slow motion during videos I record in slow motion mode. The video plays in slow motion and suddenly plays in normal rate and then goes back to slow motion. Samsung is ignoring this issue

The overexposure is how all their camera system does but I think it normal for users to reduce it to their preference
