I come from the S22 ultra, I now have the S23 Ultra and although it is always a small upgrade I have no regrets. Why? The battery life is finally better. The 1st day I got up to 9 hours of effective usage time. The next day about 8 hours, the next day 7:30 am and today 3h14min of use and still 70% left. Of course it depends on what you do with it. What strikes me is when I use the video camera I use a lot of battery. Taking photos and using tom tom go and waze is not too bad. Even the first 10% when your smartphone is charged does not fly off so quickly and the battery also goes down less quickly via 4G. The 8K 30fps is also much better than the 8K 24fps, although I do not recommend the 8K when it is very dark outside, that did not give a good result for me, but it did during the day. The 200mp camera is also very good, but it can happen that the main camera does a bit better, but when you start to zoom in the photo, the 200mp camera is lord and master. Twitter also scrolls a lot smoother now and so on, the phone is just a bit more refined, is a bit smoother.
It's clear that with the s23, Samsung wants to have less overprocessed photos & more close to natural looking photos & I love it, the reproduction of skin tones has become better but not yet at the level of the pixel phones, the dynamic range is also very improved.
At this rate all phoness are equal one maybe better for taking pictures the other average at a decent spec and those who want a full dynamic cannon photo buy a R5 even if phones hit DSR quality then we have mirror less that is getting better and better than DSR quality so cameras will never be killed of I mean. Cameras today can hit over 2000nits brightness anyway phones just bairly squeak by I mean a big sensor means more brightness how big a sensor can you slap into a phone because full size cameras have 50mm sensors and only getting bigger let's more light meaning 10000nit cameras for that 10000nit TVs for dynamic range
@@SJF15 hold your subscriptions money you mean. iPhone is useless without paying 50 dollars ontop of your monthly bill for all kinds of subscriptions. Android is way better.
6:57 damn this zoom out shot was just amazing. How far the smartphone camera have come! Video quality is especially amazing this time around on the galaxy! Great review!
@@craigwoodgate7120 dont buy a 1200 dollar phone. buy a 300 phone which used to be 1200 dollars or just a 500 dollars phone there are many great ones. we all dont need the best and latest its been just tiny tweaks over the years
One thing that the Ultra isn't the champ on is Wildlife Stress test at 3:42. Vivo X90 Pro plus only lost about 10% performance during the test compared to Ultra losing almost 30%. Vivo really made a good cooling system for their phone this year to keep their phone running so well for so long.
Nope. There's a ton of problems with this. Put this side by side to the S22 Ultra and the vast majority of the "upgrades" are negligible Unlike the Vivo x90 Pro+ and (I can't believe I'm saying this) OnePlus 11, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is boring
I pre ordered Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Phantom Black 512 GB on the second day of the announcement and galaxy unpacked .. and received it three days ago and currently using it .. Upgrading from Galaxy S8 to S23 Ultra is like Night and day difference , S8 is still incredible .. I bought it for 1,524.07 dollar here in my country which is pretty and very expensive but might be worth it .. with discount 5% and such I made it to 1,476.20 Dollar and got gift of Galaxy Buds2 Pro and Samsung care and complimentary subscriptions from Samsung members.
Got my S23 Ultra after upgrading from the Note 10+. What an upgrade! Also side note: you said you cannot take advantage of the full resolution of the screen because you generally have it in 1080. Why don't you use bixby routines to automatically change the resolution when you head into an app like RU-vid or Netflix? That's what I do
I've had two S22 Ultras with the Exynos chips. The 2nd was a replacement as the battery life, heating & wifi stability were not good on the original. Not much changed with the 2nd one, so I've jumped to the S23 Ultra, now with the Snapdragon chip. What a difference. The battery, heat & wifi issues seem to have been resolved & wow it's noticeably quicker. I've not bothered tweaking any developer modes that I was constantly doing on the S22 Ultra to try & improve the performance. The cameras are a tad better with a huge improvement in video stabilisation, although I've not taken many pics yet, those I have, seem pretty impressive. I love the screen and use the S pen all the time. Despite looking the same the improvements under the hood over the S22 Ultra with the Exynos the S23 Ultra is a worthy upgrade in my opinion after 48 hours with it.
I truly think Samsung should offer a massive trade in deal to people that have exynos phones.. Just a 100€ difference. So many years of frustrations on our money.
I did test this phone with my friend (he is owner). I think it is an awesome. He showed me his SOT and it is amazing. Video quality has a huge improvment. I was thinkin 200mp will be dissapointment like s20ultra 108mp camera (it was first gen 108mp galaxy and ı didnt like it) but 200mp is a good feature. Battery, chip and camera has a good improvment. I liked it. I have a 13 pro and ı love my phone. But if ı wasnt an apple ecosystem owner. I would get this phone. Good Job samsung
If you need 8 hours of SOT a day, then I suggest you need to put the phone down and go live a more meaningful and interesting life - so sad that we measure such things and see them as positives
@@shaun1900 maybe he has a boring job and lot's of downtime, having a smartphone with you it's a must: you can watch a film, read a book or listen, play games , emails, chatting to your friends, digital drawing/painting, taking photos, videos, editing them, etc. Dex experience as desktop when you are away or working Mirroring your smartphone phone to your tv and watching some films you downloaded,in the meantime you still can write a comment on RU-vid while on your tv a film is mirrored. This is why some people talk about screen on time, they truly make the most of their smartphones and not keep them as "phones"
@@CG-ql5rr No shit sherlock, I didn't realise you could do all those things with a phone 😂.Oh, and it's still a waste of a day to spend 8 hours+ glued to a screen.
Looking forward to getting my S23+. Its not the Ultra but I am excited nonetheless. I am coming from a S21+ (Exynos) so looking forward to going back to Snapdragon. I will probably end up getting the S24/S25 Ultra in the future when I upgrade as my wife is usually the one with the Ultra phones (she loves the Macro mode).
same, I actually decided to move from the S21 ultra up to the s23+. the FHD screen and the lack of macros on the S23+ has me a little nervous but hopefully everything else will make up for it, I really love the design and hearing great things about the battery life. I wish there were reviews of the S23/S23+ too but everyone seems lazer focused on the ultra! hope you enjoy the new phone btw :)
@@invictus94 Thanks! To be honest as nerdy as it sounds the one thing I am looking forwards to the most is the new chipset and the battery improvements. I mean the s21 plus was no slouch but it being Exynos it did tend to overheat quite quickly. Hope you enjoys yours too man, I don't think you will be dissapointed!
@@alfredoalejandro87 same here, the new chipset and the battery were two main reasons I decided to switch. Got mine on Monday and I'm really happy with it so far, although the battery life hasn't been amazing yet, I am hoping that it's more to do with learning my usage patterns and will improve in the next few days. Let me know when you get it and how you're finding it!
Got it early. Completely blown away by the power efficiency of the device. Ive got it set to charge to 85% max and am able to squeeze out about 5 hrs of SOT between 85%-20% battery with WQHD+ and 5G SA turned on. The first week will be all over the place and the phone will get warm after which it will settle and stabilise. Also One UI 5 needs a full fledged thesaurus for one to master all the features. Far better than the 13 Pro Max which I do feel was better than the 14 PM in more ways than one.
Thanks for the 1 week review video! One thing that wasn't mentioned was the improved X70 Qualcomm modem which is 50% more efficient now with built-in AI which should really help with battery life during calls and using data on top of the improved screen and processor efficiencies.
Great unbiased review as always 👍 I live in the UK and I've upgraded from my Exynos S22 Ultra, I received the S23 Ultra two days ago, the difference between the two phone's is really noticeable, speed, battery life and camera. Is it worth the upgrade, in my opinion, for me, yes, but for the average user probably not. I'm interested to see your long term review and comparison to the other flagship phones. 👍😀
Did your keyboard stick when you did that username? Anyway, are you an Android user all the time or have you switched from Apple? Just wondering on your UK opinion.
@@Richard_Barnes 😀 I've always been an Android user so I can't comment on switching from Apple. From being a user of various generations of Samsung phones including the S22 Ultra and S20 Ultra, the improvements are noticeable and impressive, if you are into tech, have the budget and want the Android operating system, this is the phone to go for.
Piece of info: here in Brazil Sammy ships them with a 25w charger in the box (due to legal reasons) besides free galaxy buds 2 pro (during sales until March 5th) and doubling the memory space as well.
Im in holland we dont get chargers but we do get a 180 cashback on 512 and 240 on the 1tb, bonus on trade in, and some carriers give watch4 lte and others do the tablet A8. I would have preferred the buds2 pro's but i dont dislike our offers either
Because of the merging of the Note and “S” series the regular s22s and 23s including the plus variants are almost completely irrelevant now it’s now like it’s “dead” no one talks about them anymore. I’m guessing Samsung didn’t see that effect coming.
Just pre ordered it in the US. I'll have it next Friday. Can't wait. Upgrading from an S10, so it will definitely be worth it. I had $1k knocked off for my S10 trade in so its only a $200 phone. Going to pair it with a galaxy watch5 pro. Never had a smart watch, but I figured it was time with how much I saved on the 23U.
@@SummitForWellness I'm not sure. I was going to keep the s10 until he told me that. I'm upgrading my daughter's phone too, and adding a line for the galaxy watch 5 pro. Might have been a promotion from those other factors.
I'm using the s²² Ultra with Exynos soc and to be honest I've had no issues from launch date. I've also own / owned Samsung phone's with Qualcomm Snapdragon soc inside = slightly better battery life. The camera is more than ample. With my usage habits I have around 40% of battery left which I appreciate is a subjective topic. We all set up our phone's differently and use different apps and have different usage habits. As for benchmarks... well... sorry but with a pinch of salt. All said enjoy and you do you. The Samsung Galaxy s²³ Ultra is an awesome phone 👌
Just pre-ordered yesterday. I'll be upgrading from a Note 20 Ultra. With trading in my old S10+ that I kept as a backup, I'll be getting the 23U for about $180. I know most like to buy their phones outright, but I don't mind the deal in order to save $1000 lol
Great video as always. Those photos you showed look amazingly sharp. I am getting the 512 GB cream 23 Ultra, supposed to arrive tomorrow or Monday. I traded in my Fold 4, and truth be told, I am going to really miss that gorgeous big inner display on the Fold 4. It was my first foldable, and I fell in love with the form factor. But, the camera quality on the Fold 4 just wasn't what I hoped for, so it's a trade-off. Also excited for the speedy new chip.
@@jemstar33 I'm from UK,i placed the order on 3rd feb and on 7th was despatched being delivered on 8th 🫣. Even now in my Samsung account it says that "arrives on 13th Feb",but item was delivered.
If you think the camera on s23u is phenomenal you will have a shock. In any indoor lighting you will have that famous shutter lag (there is an app called camera assistant from Samsung, but altered picture quality for a slight ,slight faster shutter) There is a huge difference between selfie camera and rear camera when comes to skin tone and processing of the photo. Pixel 7 pro takes better photos than this. I sent my s23u back, however I do prefer it over my pixel 7 pro when comes to software,it is much nicer to customise the whole UI
I remember seeing a video some time ago by PhoneBuff where he compared the battery life on QHD and FHD+ and there was no difference at all. Would be nice if you could bring an updated video with the S23U!
S23U is the best phone right now among all phones. I think it is better than iPhone. Keep making video of S23U bcz i just love watching it all the time even though I'm not able to buy it.
I've just preordered mine, I am currently on a Z Flip 3 but I decided that the 512 GB price (at preorder offer at least) and the fact that this is a big improvement to an already amazing phone makes this a good choice for the next 3 to 4 years.
I'm hoping to upgrade from a z flip 3 as well lol Mine got the infamous cracking along the crease Deciding to go back to regular slab phones for a while...
I think what would be a good comparison would be to do maybe a s21 ultra vs s23 ultra. Because most people with s21's will be coming to end of contracts and they would be the most like people looking to upgrade
As an Exynos S22 Ultra owner, I love S23's cameras! On my S22U the photos are oversharpened, too much contrast + saturation. And often fuzzy/blotchy with zoom (or low light pics) too. S23 Ultra is detailed without oversharpening. It doesn't turn blotchy or fuzzy, ever! Even the selfie cam looks 10x better in low light. There's a great in-depth video by an Eastern European guy, it has the most views of any camera comparison
The shutter lag in pictures taken indoor is what kills it for me... Getting in focus pictures of my kids indoors while they're moving was impossible with my old galaxy. The pixel 6 captures them in focus with great detail. I keep waiting for Samsung to fix this because I miss their hardware. But their cameras still don't meet my criteria.
@@coolguypravara burst mode is not a solution as it means lower quality images with no full HDR processing features. The S22 Ultra never got its shutter lag issue fixed so I suspect we can just class it as a Samsung ‘feature’ at this point.
To shot a moving object on 23ultra you go to camera settings and enable something i don't remember and it locks moving subject and the result is pretty good!!!
Flagship phones from Samsung and Apple these days are having a sub par unboxing experience. Very soon they might also stop including charging cable and say we may have one lying around anyway.
Hmm... think imma keep my S22 Ultra Snapdragon for the moment until the S24 comes out. It is an impressive step in the right direction for Samsung though 👏🏽 well done
Thank you for your language and pronouncing, for me as non native English speaker it's very comfortable to get what you talk and understand it, I really appreciate your reviews and how clear and comfortable they are. Thank you 🤗
IMPORTANT !! I wish you notice that the price of this phone is different in every region, here in Iraq its the cheapest this year, for only 1049$ you get the s23 ultra 512gb version+ galaxy watch 5 44mm !!! AMAZING deals isn't it ? I've ordered mine a week ago
Yes it doesn't come with anything in the box, bit I got $200 in Samsung credit in the US. I got 2 cases, a new smartthings station, & screen protector coming with the phone for no extra money. I also, got the 512/12 upgrade for free. I'm satisfied.
Dear TechChap, hi this is Declan O Shaughnessy from Galway Ireland I have not changed my phone in a number of years was always going to buy a Samsung phone on a couple of things 1)that snapdragon would be the processor on phone instead of exynos.2)But the most important question I have is this is going around like wildfire is the curved amoled screen display issues showing the amoled screen problems manufacturing is showing damage to the corners, screen problems, burn in and pixels problems has the Samsung s series phones all got this because phones pushed up in high level nits level I am just a person who loves the phone but the screen display have problems and if they had Dolby vision it might help it I am debating on buying such a dear phone when screen is dodgy best wishes beautiful photos 👍👍 cheers Declan 👍
There's no real competition with the iPhone when it comes to shutter lag. I don't know how apple does it but their shutter speed is almost instant. One thing I really miss about my iPhone. Not enough of a reason to go back though.
Actually, by default, when you press the shutter button and lift your finger up agian, the Samsung phones snap photo AFTER you have lifted your finger, because holding the finger down can trigger other options which the phone waits for, unless you lift your finger up in which case it decides to finally snap the picture. This can be changed in Camera Assistant settings so that the moment you touch the shutter, the picture gets taken, and if you continue to hold it, the other option (rapid photos, video etc) starts but the photo 'shutter snapped' in first place is kept as well in addition to the 'long press' things. Pair that with fast shutter setting you get in GoodLock Camera Assistant, and the shutter lag becomes nonexistent almost like an iPhone.
You do understand how cameras work right? On a sunny day there is no "lag". At night the "lag" is required to allow more light into the sensor. Shocking? Not really. It can all be adjusted in pro mode.
Had a pre-order on the 1st of Feb, today cancelled it, after watching too many reviews I reached a conclusion as a moderate user that I will not notice any difference in comparison to my current S22 Ultra even though its with exynos chip, not even an external look to say to my brain I have a different phone 😞
Order my ultra from Best Buy with a $180 off plus $100 Best Buy gift card. This will be my 1st samsong flagship as I am upgrading from the A53. Can't wait to try it out and see how it compares to my iPhone 14 pro Max.
Selfies look generally good , but still look a bit soft like they have beauty mode on ? Is it worth it ? i would ask the question are any of the new high end brand phones worth it when you look at the big picture ? Given the amount of features and accessories they have removed in recent years , i think they are all way over priced . And having an upgraded camera and chipset should not come into it , you expect to get new improved stuff if you are replacing your old phone , otherwise why should we replace our previous model perfectly working phones in the first place if they are not upgraded in these areas . In other words , you should not have to pay more just because it has some improvements from the old model .
I am a legally blind man. As such I've discovered that I can use Samsung's Ultra phones as an accessibility device. So for me, every camera upgrade is a new chance to see things that I wasn't able to before. So I used a trade in offer to upgrade from the S22 Ultra to the 23. Can't wait to get it in hand!
Isn't there a Night Mode at 50MP??? I swear they said that on their stream! 🤔 Can you test it!?? Also they have introduced an AMAZING battery saver! Pass Through Charging! Enabled through their Game Booster. Enables you to charge whilst gaming, and the power goes straight to the chip, bypasses the battery which saves you a lot of volts, heat and battery degradation!
About the developer options, i also use half speed animations on my phones😃 It does help, phones feel much faster. Don't know if it would be worthy on my new s23 ultra, but we'll see🤔
@Welsh Lad You don't understand it because you haven't used it. Reducing shutter lag worsens photo quality. So with that module, Samsung gives you fine control over speed vs quality.
I am considering this since I am making quite a large leap in models, from the s9+. Honestly what is selling it most for me is that it has the s-pen due to me having quite severe arthritis along with a bit sketchy memory meaning I am constantly in need of a stylus but can never remember to bring one
CORRECTION!!! The S23 Ultra does not share the same Snapdragon clock .S23 has the fastest and coolest temperature that EVERY new Snapdragon chip out this year.Yhe chip literally says "Made for Samsung" on it..Do better Tech Chap
I upgrade every year because the tech changes in a year! If your a hard user, you will notice the difference! I have bought the Galaxy S series since the S1 and the better versions since the Edges and now the Ultras. If you can afford it, GO FOR IT!!!!! I think the improvement in the S23 Ultra over the S22 Ultra if your an hard user of 10 + hours per day is more than 1,000% Better speaker's 500% 🔈 Better Camera's 800% 📸 Better screen 1,000% 📲 Better image 1,000% 🎆 Better battery 750% 🔋 Better feel 950% 👐 OVERALL: 2,500% BETTER FOR HARD USER'S IF I COMPARE THE S22 ULTRA TO THE S23 ULTRA MY SCORE WOULD BE THIS:- S22 ULTRA ⭐️ S23 ULTRA ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a year of use of the S22 Ultra and just 2.5 months so far with the S23 Ultra, so if your a hard user of games, RU-vid, Web browsing, on line shopping, photography etc., and you have the cash go for it, I paid £1,399 512GB and 3 year guarantee off Amazon. 👍👍👍👍👍
