I've had my iphone 4 for ony about 2 years, but I'll likely be switching to this soon. I doubt I'll miss too much XD especially the lag and dumbfounded people that I'm "using a dinosaur for a phone".
Most reviewers need to realise. I would say the majority of your average consumers will buy a case. These phones cost a lot of money and most of us have two year contracts. Therefore, the scratching and cracking issues are not really an issue.
+grashoper645 let them use a case for their expensive phones, why would you risk it. Me personally, I do not wear cases on a regular day but when I'm about to do sports or If I'm going to be out for a long time, I rather take my case with me.
+Ufuk XiYiZi yeah but everyone complained about the s5 being made of plastic. so they change it to glass and everyone covers it with plastic cases. this does not make any sense to me.
+grashoper645 It's because people are always complaining. Give a village food, energy, hospitals, etc. and they will be happy. Now take all those things away and see how they going riot
fastest phone I've owned. using it with the official LED flip wallet. honestly no lag 99.9% of the time, only time I noticed it was in application manager when I'd started scrolling before it had loaded the screen.
I agree and disagree. I think Apple is stagnating in some of its ingenuity, however, I appreciate the reliability on the OS and its ecosystem. I've had Androids before which are amazing out of the gates, however, after a while I notice performance degrades. The S7 is an amazing looking phone, though.
S8 won't happen until at least next Spring. Note 7 will be out on the 19th though in many countries, so it might be worth waiting to check that out before you make a decision.
i ve using iphone for 3 and half years..move to this phone. very first time spending extra money.. i first plan to buy note7 but for some reason i decide to buy s7 edge and love it. super fast.easy.feauturs etc..my fav is the battery life. thumbs up samsung.
+oren moyal so you prefer pressing your phone screen constantly just to make an app action risking your device's screen been damaged or just swipe and find the app mega quick and mega easier and in mega less time.
I am not an apple fan at all but i did try the 3D touch ,and trust me they did it Properly without any extra pressure on the screen. Their touch sensitivity is the best you can get despite all thier bullshit in general.
got this phone for my birthday yesterday and so glad I did. moving from the iPhone to this device was a BIG move and I wasn't sure about it but it worked out fine. I love the apps on this phone and even the vibrations whilst typing. It's brilliant!
there are no really affective cases for the edge though unless you get the ones that have the flap that goes over the screen I don't know what they are called lol
nah it wouldn't be so great even then. Samsung features which aren't really useful but nice to haves. Due to the overhaul of their performances yet fragile material of the phone it makes up keeping the phone that much more expensive and more likely to bugs and overheating easily over time. I've had this problem over time owning Samsung galaxy phones. There is so much background processes that don't have a purpose which really eats at the battery. It being waterproof is nice though it is so fragile like said in this video it hardly matters much. the test of time your battery will die and unless you don't know how to replace the battery and or pay for battery and installed good luck having this phone running as smooth for a few years .
I´ve had my galaxy s4 for around 2 and a half years,It lags just a little, and the only thing i´ve ever have had to change was the display when it fell from a 4th floor, the phone was still working, haven´t changed because I don´t have the money, but if I could afford a s7 edge, I´d totally would, and I know I´ll surely last a lot
Good video. I just can't understand how you scratch your home button. I've a Note 5 for nearly a year and never scratched it. My wife who as with many ladies has those long nails which tend to scratch things and there's not a scratch on her S7 Edge home button though she has from launch day and is always tapping it with her fingernail. Are you sure you don't still have the little plastic cover on it and it's scratching?? Just a suggestion Lol!
+Brian M I just had mine for a week and had it scratched too... Maybe because i put my phone screen side down on a rough surface somewhere, but I don't think I am that careless
Rey I really think if you're not a careless person bring the phone back and show them photos I put on my page of my wifes phone. ! It will prove it shouldn't scratch easily and get a replacement!
I'm surprised you're still so keen on it after it cracked randomly and with the screen-holding issue. Being able to hold it without accidentally bumping the screen is my biggest concern about buying this phone at the moment. Your point about the camera over-processing images is another worry, and combined with Samsung's track record on updates, I'm not sure these things will get fixed. While the HTC 10 isn't quite as good for the camera and doesn't have quite as many software features, at least they've got a better update track record. Ugh such decisions.
Great review & great points regarding the camera processing noise builders. I hope samsung considers your critiques & points for their next gen models to fix these issues. A+ just subscribed!!
I have had issues with this phone (had to send it off for repair the screen went weird and started ghosting) but the phone being impossible to hold in one hand is wrong. I dont have particular large hands and find it easy to hold in one hand
All you've described about the design, unused edge & ability to pick up is right on point with what I've been experienced in less than a week. I don't like covers either but every time I pick it up I am afraid I'll drop it. Basically could have done without the curved edge. Annoying and not sure I like it. Great review, straight to the point, quick and very informative!
I use the spigen tough armor with the invisible shield screen protector. I haven't dropped it yet tho. Am thinking of getting one of those tempered screen protectors but I dunno how well it would work with the edge screen.
because of that purty edge...i don't think there's a case that can ever fully protect it from accidental drops. I have to admit after using the s7 edge for more than a month now, I haven't found much use for the edge, but the larger screen size and battery is appreciated :D
Having this phone just north of two weeks, I'm liking it more and more. I've been an avid user of the I phone for years and this has proven to be a much better product thus far.
switched from using a iPhone for 6 years straight, i decided to go to Samsung S7 edge for the Water resistance,, it held up over 2 months of use, and is a gorgeous phone. i love it.
I agree with you. My S7 Edge has been with me since the week they came out, I had to track one down, I have had several of the S series phones, and this is the best one I have had yet.
Help me out. What's the difference between note ones and 7, 7 edge? I see them as phone's of almost equal capabilities sold separately so what kind of market are they going for, size?
Just picked up this new phone over the weekend. Awesome. I dare any CrApple user to honestly compare it to the 6s and be mesmerized by the superior quality of the Galaxy S7
+play_station_kid it's actually quite comfortable and doesn't make the phone feel big. has nice brushed steel finish at the back, as long as the phone is protected, I'm only going to be looking at the screen..
It's actually very easy to one hand this phone with curved edged on the front and back..Very comfortable in the hand too. This surprised me when I got mine.
Nice review, i'm lloking forward to get me the S7 edge in a couple of weeks. However, there was a small flaw i noticed halfway in the video in terms of audio quality. I was watching this with my headphones on and couldn't help but notice an echo in every "s" sound while speaking. eventually i caught myself paying more attention to the echoing noise than the video so you might want to check the microphone settings or add a little less effects on the editing part. Anyways all together you really convinced me, thankyou for the review!
My only complaint after having this phone for several months, is the placement of the mic on the bottom. It is exactly where I reflexively place my pinky while i'm talking on the phone and then suddenly the conversation falls into the "hello, can you here me" loop until i remember to move my finger.
thanks for the video it was a very eye-opening. I got this phone as a replacement for my lost Note Edge through my at&t insurance, and while I'm liking it so far this video definitely points out some things I watch out for. I am notorious for dropping my phone so I've taken the necessary steps to get one of those OtterBox cases. I want this phone lasting me a good long time.
I never bother; the phone is too beautiful to be covered up. The screen protector is just a gimmick for this phone; it obscures the beauty of the Super AMOLED screen.
2:00 there's a new edge app on the Galaxy Store that actually lets you put homescreen widgets on the edge panel. Its quite possibly the most usable feature of the edge right now, as you could put all your music player widgets there and such for easy access while youre in a chat app or whatever, without needing the notification tray to be cramped by those music controls.
I've had my S7 Edge for about a month. I love it!!! I was gonna go for the G5 but the Gold Edge caught my eye. I use a Tech21 case. It feels much better in my opinion.
I knew the galaxy s8 was coming out but I decided to upgrade from my note 4 to the edge s7 in pink gold and I loooove it!! :D Purchased it for $535, 64G with Exynos processor!! =)
Loved this video. You covered some things that most reviewers didn't... Subscribed. There's one thing I wanted to know though. I plan on picking up this phone soon. Just confused with what colour I should get. I love watching movies on my phone hence was asked to go to black... But I really love that silver model. I'm just afraid it will get too reflective when watching videos on it ... Since you have both models, I think you can help me decide. I just want a phone that looks slick and unique with the ability to watch videos.
Its been 2 months I have been using S7 edge...unfortunately I dropped my phone 2 weeks back and screen got shattered. I have noticed significant battery drain from then..I am getting battery for just 6 to 8 hours and also phone is overheating. I will be replacing the phone as I got insurance...just wanted to share that phone was so delicate that it just cracked when it fell from 1 feet high and the problems it got after that
If you don't like the preprocessing the S7 Edge does to pix, set it to shoot in RAW format and use Photoshop CC2015.5 or Photoshop Elements 14 to make your own mods to the pix with Adobe's Camera Raw software (included in both Photoshop versions). The other advantage of RAW format (besides no in-camera preprocessing and no compression to jpeg format) is it uses 100% of the pixels in the sensor. That means the files are going to be large, so stick a 64GB micro-SD card in the phone. You're getting everything in the pix you're taking.
So would a small crack on the back of the glass make it no longer waterproof? I dropped mine on the concrete the other day (just my luck right?) and it created a small crack only on the bottom right of the phone.
If you gonna pay $400 to $700 for your phone which is an extension on your hand, why not spend $50 more good bucks for a top of the line case! You made several good points about this phone, and one of these points was Samsung listening to visual people and without good thought making a phone out of glass! This why I loved my S5 it was an indestructible phone... international variants that is.
Absolutely brilliant, brilliant review. Loved the close up shots of the phone emphasising the curves. Kudos to you for taking note of and mentioning the over sharpening of the images. I particularly like to zoom in into my pictures to enjoy the detail but this phone completely destroys the pleasure of watching fine detail like grasses and micro strands on leaves etc. The over sharpening does look like a pastel painting and it just takes away so much from the experience of enjoying photos clicked on this device. The only way to enjoy photos clicked by this device on this device is by not zooming into them. I wish Samsung would stop this and give us absolutely natural photos like the iPhone.
they say that because of legal issues. if soemone drowns their phone they wont be able to sue samsung, they'll just say it was water resistent not waterproof
I'm thinking of getting one of these, but unlike you, I'm going to be putting a case on it. My other phone just recently died from a fall fro around 2 feet in the air (not much at all), and the screen didn't even crack, it just broke. I'm not taking any chances if I get this phone.
I just changed the AOD to a photo last night, and it started draining the battery big time today. Half the battery in just 2 hours. Switched it back to the clock, and rebooted, so far so good. I googled it, and seems to be a problem. I HAD the Note 7 and it had an epic battery until they bricked it.
Like you said, drop it and waterproofing is out the door, let alone cracking the display screen to render it nonfunctional. So why does it even matter how it feels in your hand or how difficult it is to pick up if it needs to be in a case protector ..... What is this phone like to be in a case protector? Why would anyone have a phone without ANY protection ?? Please review some protectors working with this great phone. Thanks.
Hi! Absolutely my own experience too regarding to the edges and touching them without want to and making me want to GRAAAAWWWR (ROAR) in frustration... but I found that whilst one use a good cover this issue is more or less gone. The camera is STUNNING! - Nothing much left to say... I love it! :) -tnx for a nice video.. :)
You're spot on about the edge criticism, I hate the edges! I just wanted the bigger screen. I was planning on getting the next note but it's looking like it will have edges too! Crap, maybe I'll sell this and get the note 5.
Guys please help me out here..I've been an iphone user for 3 years...I've used the 5s, 6 and the 6s. Now I'm confused...Should i buy S7 edge or iPhone 7 plus ??
A very good review and I agree with everything you said. You didn't mention the wireless charging which I love, both in the car and on the desk, so saving wear and tear on the charging socket. My main complaint about the phone is that I am scared stiff of dropping it, I have one of the official Samsung cases but it is still slippery, I think it would be a good idea to have a gel case with a flap to protect the screen in case it is dropped on a hard surface. There doesn't appear to be a fixing point for a lanyard unlike the S2 had, so taking pictures in perilous situations could have catastrophic consequences.
I had an s7 edge for a month and took it back for the S7 the edge screen made it impossible to do simple task like text. the keyboard curves with the edge making it hard to tap those keys. I am happier with the S7 and glad I took back the s7 edge.
Hmmm have you tried holding the phone with your pinky at the bottom? that's how I hold it, I find it to be more secure that way, but it does take a way a lil reach by thumb. Interesting it still looks pristine minus the crack, no scratches?? I'm surprised. Seeing you use the S7 with your wallpapers etc, makes me warm up a lil more to Samsung, was never a fan of their ui or their lag but they seemed to have improved quite a bit! I still prefer stock though :P heh Totally agree with you on the processing and sharpening, it's too much. but if you shoot in raw, all that processing is stripped out so that's an option. Great vid :)
***** Ah no problem bud :) Honesty is the best policy, best not to give in to pride I find :). People these days are far too judgemental so I like to bring a lil fresh air into the mix ^_^. If you need any help with photography, feel free to ask me some Q's, I shoot for a living so I'm pretty active on videos that highlight photography.
I love using my phone without a case but I absolutely can't stand when I bump things randomly because of the edge. I have to force myself to use the edge functions as well. the idea behind it is amazing.
any phone I bought, ive always check if the would fit the Otter protective cases... 10 years now and still no broken glass on 5 different phones now... right now got the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge and both got the Otter cases.
