Over a year in of having my fold 3, and i still cant get how people are complaining about the slimness of the front screen and "having to open it". Thats the POINT of a foldable!!!! Get a tablet if you dont want it folding!! Dont act like its nothing that its easier to use with one hand, thats what I LOVE about it. I can get by 99% of the day using one hand with the front screen, then when it comes to getting work done I GET TO open it
I have fold 3 too about over a year too and I love it, I like big screen when it's open and I was thinking of getting fold 5 but this time I'm getting flip 5, I never got flip series yet and want to try it
The one handed use is often, but I love it because of how much you see on screen while scrolling through the internet. I'd say a large portion of the people that hate it are people with larger than average hands. My hands are pretty much as average as they get and the front screen o. The 3 was a tad cramped, not a problem though and I wouldn't trade it for a wider screen on a foldable.
@@mihirchitnis905agreed, I think even if you have the fold 3 you don't need to upgrade to the fold 5. It's a really minor update, pretty disappointing they couldn't even put a slightly bigger battery in there or something else
Only You tubers can do all this switching back and forth. The rest of us are fine with ONE PHONE. We're simply not upgrading every year, and Samsung knows that.
I'm kind of dumb that way. I had a Note 9, Fold 3. S22 Ultra. Fold 4. and now thinking if I want to go to Fold 5. I just don't know. What I want is a wider ratio and a pen built in. Oh and my inner protector is just starting to peel so I wonder if the new hinge will protect the bend better.
I actually prefer the narrower display on the zfold 5 as it makes it easier to put in a pocket and being thicker then the over 2 phones is also a bonus for me. I have used both the other phones and I destroyed them both with daily use within 6 months of purchase because they are too thin and the extra width just makes them to easy to break when you put them in the front pocket of a pair of jeans then sit down with the phone still in the pocket. It snaps them so easily if the phone sots at the wrong angle. This is not an issue with the zfold 4 or 5.
As a non foldable user until I upgraded to the fold 4 last year and oh boy was I mesmerised such an incredible phone. Safe to say with minor upgrades on the 5 I'll patiently wait for the 6
Great video! I decided to grab the Z Fold 5 as my first foldable; the S-Pen was more or less the clincher for me. I kind of like the idea of being compelled to use the bigger screen more often with the narrow cover screen - I found reports that people rarely open up the Pixel Fold a bit of a turn off. Fingers crossed it's a great experience!
Thats exactly what I was thinking. If you had normal sized cover display you are more likely to use it and unfold it really in some specific cases at which point you might already buy regular phone. I would not deal with thick foldable phone unless I am going to use it unfolded for the majority of the time
I LOVE my Z Fold 3. I film, edit and post for our RU-vid/ Tiktok channel ALL from my Z fold 3 and the s pen is huge for productivity. Never going back to a traditional phone lol. With that said... going to upgrade to this bad boy!
I have a Z Fold 4 (which arguably was a nice step up from the Z Fold 3 I had previously: Better signal quality for both Bluetooth & WiFi, better cameras, better processing, better under display camera, better battery life, weight reduction, and improved front display dimensions & refresh rate) and with the trade in deals I got it for less than the Z Fold 3 cost me. However, with the Z Fold 5 I see absolutely NO reason to upgrade. Other than the new hinge there has been no tangible change to the device which is beyond disappointing. If someone is coming from a Z Fold 3 or another device then by all means, but they could probably get a much better deal on a Z Fold 4 at this point and it's pretty much the exact same phone.
I am upgrading from Note 9(2018) to Fold 5. Had plans on getting Fold 4 but the camera didn't impress that time. But now I realized I am not using camera that much so the current camera hardware will be good enough. The only thing I am a bit sad with the Fold 5 is no SPen and SPen Slot on the device.
@@babepawsssExactly the same situation here, also from a note 9. Also disappointed about the spen situation, but I'm hopeful that I can figure something out that will work for me. The phone not folding completely flat bothered me for so long, so I'm surprised so many people are brushing this off as a minor change. Without the hinge change, it just seems like a half-baked product, but now, it seems like something that is very well polished and ready for mainstream usage, aside from the price. I'm also happy about the narrow screen since I frequently find the screen too wide for comfortable one handed use, and I already shrink my keyboard, so I don't think the decreased width will bother me at all. Maybe I can finally comfortably text with one hand again.
@@lunyx6 Yeah! They have a slimmer version of SPen now coming out. The only option is to get a case with SPen slot. The official case is damn expensive:( They should have given the casing free, especially without a charging socket, now we have to buy a new one as well.
The battery life is the main selling point for the Fold5. The S23 series has the best battery life ever with the current gen that's now in the Fold5. Im not getting it only because I love my S23U.
Wishlist for the Fold 6/7/8/9/X idk... is: - Camera from the S Ultra, - wider front display, - no indentation on the screen, - Built-in S Pen slot, - Bigger Battery, - IP68, - Better UDC (Under Display Camera). I don't care the price anymore because the Z series is the most expensive flagship from Samsung.
Samsung did a great device by narrowing the display, if you want a bigger display on outer screen then get a normal device. Use case of Fold 5 is different than normal devices.
I would not switch to fold 5, as a fold 3 user, now I prefer Honor magic V2, with wider cover display, for normal usage I do not need to open the inner display, for fold user for normal usage you always need to use the inner display because of the narrow cover display, another reason magic V2 is more slim
It's not the only foldable with a stylus pen. The Honor Magic v2 has a S pen as well, and you can also use it on the outer display. It's overall a way better foldable than the z fold 5..
I wonder if that's why Samsung brought their launch forward...? Shame the honour won't be available world wide for many months otherwise I'd go for it.
That's the one I'm going for. Currently have a Fold 3. Was waiting to see if Samsung was going to fix the narrow outside screen on the Fold 5 to finalise my upgrade decision. Honor Magic V2, here I come.
Still use my S21 Ultra 512GB storage/16GB RAM, as it has amazing cameras (108MP main, 40MP selfie) and still a beast. I skipped both S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra as I was not a fan of certain hardware downgrades (RAM, storage, and selfie camera now at 10MP respectively). However, I did want a Fold, and I'm an avid user of the S Pen since Note 2 and 3, and constantly use an S Pen on my S21 Ultra. Despite the lower spec cameras on the Z Fold 5, as I'm keeping my S21 Ultra, I decided to go for the Fold 5 for this year. It will be my first new phone in nearly three years, my first foldable, and if either the future S24 Ultra or Z Fold 6 come out, I can trade in either my S21 Ultra or Z Fold 5 at that time. In reality, the Z Fold 5 + my existing S21 Ultra ought to do me well for many years, and I'm content to use each 😊 Likely, I'll still take the better pics on my S21 Ultra when I'm composing shots, but now use Z Fold 5 for Photoshop Lightroom and Express editing. Z Fold 5 will be the main device for everything else. My hope is that future Samsung Fold phones receive the same spec of cameras from that years flagship S[XX] Ultra phone, but excluding that, I'm very excited to use a folding device! 😃
@@dzenan.m it's not that megapixels themselves are important; hardware of the cameras, CMOS chup, focal length, and firmware/software are still the most important. Essentially, the execution. However, considering that the S21 Ultra had extra tech, 108MP with laser, and you can take RAW images of all cameras, including the 40MP selfie (albeit, not something I have done), it's a shame that Samsung removed that laser and higher spec selfie camera, opting for more digital processing to compensate. That's not including the RAM downgrades either; S21 Ultra was the last S phone with 16GB, all others since, including the Fold series, top out at 12GB max. The point I was making was the ever increasing cost to Samsung Galaxy phones that have some lower spec hardware features vs previous iterations. Yes, software/firmware can compensate, but we consumers are charged more regardless. In regards to the Z Fold series, there's no excuse why these flagship phones cannot match the camera modules of the that year S Ultra phone. That said, ZF5 is the first foldable I'm getting as some of my concerns with durability and size seem to have been mitagted, I had good offer discounts, and I'm keeping my S21 Ultra as backup. Hope this makes more sense.
if somebody took the exact pics with the fold 4,5, iphone 13 pro,14 pro, samsung s21&s22 ultra, s23 ultra . you wouldn’t be able to tell which one is which…. just stop lol
@@beaualoevv perhaps true too, though, again, this is a niche area for those who take RAW pics and edit. I still think the expensive Z Fold series ought to have the same camera modules as the current top S series, especially as Z Fold have better screen for editing, and costs involved. That's really my entire complaint towards the Z Fold. In most other areas (to those who don't have the previous Z Fold phones) Z Fold 5 is incredible, and a great upgrade too.
@sebastiengauthier1148 That's true but only for iphones. In my experience, optimization didn't matter for the android phone's battery life. Therefore, I prefer a bigger battery if I use an Android phone.
@@marztenacity9444 software on non Samsung Android phones aren't that bad anymore. They caught up. Other than iphones the battery optimization doesn't matter.
I love the narrow display on my Fold 4 it allows me to text with one hand on the go making it much more convenient and when I am more relaxed or want to watch media content I just unfold it and use the bigger screen. Samsung's approach is better than competitors if they gave you a wider screen on the outside you get used to it and after time passes you will find yourself never unfolding and enjoying the inner screen. This will make the idea of a folding phone irrelevant if you find yourself always using the outer display you better get a slap style instead and save a lot of money.
I'm with you the narrow form allows full one handed use which is nonexistent on most devices. Yet, Samsung will be forced from competitors to make the cover bigger with the 6 next year
@@randypage26I don't mind 3-4mm more. But if they emulate the Chinese, I'm going back to slabs. The narrow Z Fold has been an absolute joy to use after so many gargantuan flagships.
Jumped off Android since the original Google Pixel and I have been an iPhone user since the 11. Android really hasn’t enticed me at all over the years and I’ve messed around with a Google Pixel 6a as a for fun Android side device. However, folding phones always interested me but I definitely did not want to be an early adopter. Seeing we are 5 generations in and how polished the device is I’m taking the jump and am very excited to see how it plays out for me.
Fold 5 vs the honor magic v2 comparison please!! 😅 I love the samsung software, but the honor v2 is killing it with the hardware. I just can't stand the pixels short and fat design and lack of stylus support
Dont worry Saf - Even their enginners and TM Roh himself will agree "" NO NEED TO SWITCH TO Z FOLD 5 "" 😂 Better pick of the lauch is Z Flip 5 and W6 Classic with its legend rotating dial comeback
Just ordered mine 1TB model in the exclusive blue colour. Had discounts through work etc so the 1TB model essentially cost me the same as the 256gb model. Plus free buds pro 2 and Disney plus etc etc.
I was just about to buy this phone and trade in my iPhone 13 Pro Max and get $1,000 trade in for it but you just made me think about what a POS this phone is compared to the other folding phones so I really appreciate you saving me a big/huge headache. This is why I only watch you because you share your personal thoughts instead of just the numbers. Thank you sir 🙏
Yeah none of what he covered over other foldable matters. A little thinner? A little lighter? Dumb. Get what you want. I’m trading in my 14 Pro Max for the Fold 5 and I’ve used iPhone consistently since the X, prior to that was Samsung.
Please do a review on Honour Magic V2. Been using Samsung from first Note series and unable to get out from Samsung ecology . Immediately before the Fold 5 launch was deciding between the Fold or S23U or should I consider something else? Finally bought the S23U because I fear the very act of opening and closing the Fold might be an inconvenience when in a rush and thus might drop the phone accidentally. I also wanted to try other brands but so embedded within Samsung ecology and also unfamiliar with other brands. Also Samsung phones are getting crazily expensive.
I wasn't going to upgrade, but the new hinge and slimmer s-pen did it for me. Sure, it's not a tremendous difference, but it does Fold flatter, and the pen is slimmer, so I think it'll be more pocketable. Plus, the $1000 trade-in for my Fold 4 didn't hurt either
I believe Michael Fisher is going to end up using his Razr+ over the Flip5 as his weekend daily driver. Has a year-old chip but rounded sides and looks better. And Motorola figured it out years ago how to do a cover display on a flip. Mike is also a bigger fanboy for Motorola than Samsung. Pixel Fold vs. Fold5 is a little trickier. We know Adam Matlock returned his PF and then bought it again. He needs stylus support, so Fold5 is likely his daily driver. Snap 8 Gen 2 is more of a massive upgrade from Tensor 2 than from 8+ Gen 1. But PF still has the superior cover display although a bit too wide like the Razr 2022 at 80 mm. As I predicted, I think Mike will use Razr+ and Pixel Fold for this year but I'm still 50-50 if he goes Fold5 being how weak and inefficient that Tensor 2 chip is. Fold5 is more like a Fold4S. The big upgrade probably happens next year. Already 4 gens of the Folds that's more of the same. I'm still rocking my Flip3. Yeah, I know battery life isn't great but I'm fine with it. I couldn't trade it in last year for $900 for the Flip4 because it gave me so much GameCube and PS2 nostalgia. And it's my first foldable and my first Android smartphone I got on launch day, so I couldn't just trade it in. So many sentimental reasons attached to it. Did Samsung folds peak in 2021? The 2022 ones only brought better battery life thanks to 8+ Gen 1. It doesn't look like Samsung is even trying anymore. I'm not sure foldables will ever catch on. I believe it will remain niche for the next 5 years and for something for techtubers to talk about. It's just not catching on with people due to fragility concerns and outrageous prices. I'm actually using a red iPhone SE 2022 as my daily driver. I need to because my Dasher app will make a sound when I receive an order. My three Android devices won't make a sound and then I lose the schedule if my break time expires over 35 minutes. I would unknowingly be on a break time since I never hear a sound if I'm getting an order or not. I don't mind using a boring slab again and the SE3 is nice to hold and I prefer Touch ID. Don't care if it looks like an iPhone 6 through 8. Easier and cheaper to repair. I can't go back using SE1 which I've owned twice because battery life is atrocious once it's on iOS14 and some apps aren't optimized for 4" anymore. My SE3 has a case with a kickstand and offers way better battery life than my SE1s did. I can see more from a 4.7" in landscape than watching videos from a 2.7" cover display my Razr 5G has or if my Flip3 is set in Flex mode. I still prefer Android much more than iOS but Dasher app's notification sound keeps me on iOS. My Flip3 and Razr 5G are usually left at home since an iPhone became my daily driver again. More of my Flip3 since the Razr 5G has double storage and fits like 13 of my favorite TV shows. I still use them constantly to download from torrents, play retro games, or for streaming. Maybe foldables are just a gimmick? Think about it. You're basically carrying a heavier and pricier phone and then you might not open it up as often. I'm not a tablet user, so I don't care for big screens over 7". I owned iPads and rarely ever used them. I like compact and portability. We got the Razr+ which acts like a compact phone when closed. Is it really? It's still fairly heavy and thick. At least 50 g more than an iPhone 4 and 70 g more than the iPhone 5/5S/SE1. It's tall when opened. Nowhere as compact, thin, narrow, and light as the iPhone SE 2016 or Xperia Compacts from yesteryear. Then folks are loving the outer display of the Pixel Fold because it's wider and shorter. Easier to type on. So they don't open the phone as much. Doesn't that defeat the purpose owning it then? You have a Nexus 5 stacked together. Same height but thicker, wider, and doubled weight. I know MKBHD has never fallen in love with foldables. What's really their purpose other than propping it up without a need of a kickstand? What significant upgrade in features do they bring that a slab can't do other than they can fold? It's just a different form factor but what practical thing are they really bringing? I was recently using my Xiaomi Mi 3 last weekend. I hadn't turned it on since Dec 2021 to use the FM radio to listen to Christmas music. Holy shit, it still had battery life at over 50%! And it still works decently from a phone I've owned for 9 years. That's reliable. I was watching Ash from C4ETech talking about the Mi 3 in 2014 for nostalgia. I started using a modded PSP 2001 model my brother gave me. It still works great! It got me thinking of getting older phones and such. When phones were smaller, had headphone jack, had expandable storage, and sometimes removable battery which the PSP has. My modded Vita's battery health I got in 2017 is still over 90%. I think smartphones peaked between 2014-2018. A lot of the stuff we are seeing the last 5 years are more of the same with the exception of the foldables, Duos, and LG Wing. You can own a phone from 2018 and it will still work beautifully if the battery hasn't degraded badly from it. My Pixel 3 still takes great pix. What we're really seeing from phones whether they fold or not is more of the same. The most exciting industry within the next 5 years could be AR glasses. Michael Fisher can finally become Iron Man talking to his own JARVIS while looking cool doing it. AR glasses will be more useful than smart watches. You can even leave your smartphone more at home and try to live the retro life from the 1980s and 1990s without social media's echo chamber frying your brain and ruining your vision from worthless opinions like if Margot Robbie being just "mid" on Twitter or X, whatever the hell they call it now. Instead of mindless scrolling on the Internet, you can use the time by developing a new skill like fixing cars, cooking, or learning a new language.
Real I really can't understand them. If you try watching a video, on the front display it is too small and on the middle one is too much space unused. Changing the form factor just a bit would fix most of this plus using the keyboard on the front display would be more practical
The Honor Magic V2 has pen support for both the inner and outer display, something that Fold 5 in all it’s thickness couldn’t achieve, how come u saying the Fold 5 is the only device with pen support ?
Magic V2 do support for stylus rite? Please review magic V2 with comprehensive software aspect for multitasking, pinning, compatibility of apps etc. Really interested with it
Can you do a detailed comparison of the Fold 5 & Honor magic v2? You mentioned Honor magic v2 is now your favorite; so how does it match up against Samsung not just hardware, but also software? Is it difficult to adjust to Honor MagicOS? Thanks! P.S. Magic v2 has a pen too.
This is the first Fold I've felt safe to purchase as a first time buyer. I think this phone was perfected to make ppl on the fence finally pull the trigger
Appreciate Ya! I consider switching from the Nite/Ultra every year and each year it just doesn't make sense to switch, and once again it doesn't seem like enough reason. Samsung has been living good with no competition, but those two new foldables coming in is going to force Samsung to hit it out of the park next year, so maybe that will finally be my time to change or maybe I am going to the Google version???
I currently have both phones, Pixel fold and Fold 5. There's no denying that the cover screen of the Pixel is better than the Z fold, but the problem is that beside the cover screen, Pixel fold is bad, the main screen is trash, apps don't work properly, phone doesn't open flag, battery not great, no spen, no much multitask. If you could use all apps normally not even in tablet mod but just huge app I would still give the pixel but the issue is it makes the apps uglier and pointless, I would rather use it on the cover screen. Z Fold has small cover screen wich is not ideal but once you open that main camera you're using the best tablet in the world, power, multitask, apps are either optimized or Samsung forces their aspect ratio. It's also faster and doesn't get hot unlike Pixel. The pixel fold might be smooth but suddenly it force closes and acts weird. Me personally, I would use an Iphone and Z fold. That's my daily phones. There are other great foldable phones specially in Chines companies but still Google and Apple and Samsung are ahead than anyone else both software and security.
Still have my s10+ been thinking about getting the s23 ultra but now im considering this fold 5. Although I can see myself waiting another year for a fold 6 cause I'm thinking it will most likely be a better update with actually changes to the camera, battery and charging.
Haha that was my exactly my thought process last year and I have the Note 9. My phone is showing its age now, so I will most likely have to upgrade to the Fold 5.
I have a s10+ myself and considering this fold 5. Its starting to lag a little bit and its start up time takes quite a while. If I had the 5G version, I would've prolly waited another year. Planning on trading in 12 pro max but if I wait another year, the trading price on that might drop 100 or 200 off of what I can get for it now. The bundle for the fold 5 though, kinda looks like sumn worth taking.
@@yo_boi_dre8881 there's a trade in promo going on on Samsung's website. Here in Canada I got a quote of CAD 75 + 400 promo totalling 475 which is incredible for my Note 9.
@@harbirsingh7266 it’s bargain man. I’m really considering. I’d get 400 USD if I should trade in the 10+. Bundling gives me half the price off the watch 6 classic as well. The fold should’ve also have a 16GB RAM option for that 1tb
Everyone saying they dont see a reason to upgrade from the Fold 3.... better chipset, much better camera, better displays, thinner, better battery life, longer software support... need I go on? Dont understand why people are so butthurt lol
Waiting to see what the Oneplus Open has to offer... hate having to open my fold 3 all the time for something simple. I love having the big screen when needed but it gets very repetitive opening and closing.
I've switched from an iPhone 14 Pro to a Samsung fold 5. I can say one thing about this device. I'm getting best of both worlds, a great front screen and a exceptional inner larger display. Can't beat it .😊😊 😊😊😊😊😊
Picked one up refurbished ice blue £811 on 0% . Really pleased with it . I have a 23 ultra too and switch when im taking sports photos of my sins football. Love the narrow screen for typing too.
why is the audio kinda weird? i feel your voice sound heavier on my left earphones and the music is louder on my right earphones. idk I don't like this stereo experience I think it's a bit distracting.
To me this phone has ethical problems: if you make such big phone (environment unfriendly), such big box, why not add small quality charger. I feel these companies are cheating therefore wouldn't buy till I need it
I bought Honor Magic VS a month ago and really cannot live with it. First, you have to be aware all photos and videos transferred to Honor will shuffled. They will not placed in date order as Samsung or Apple. My business need to receive and take hundreds of photo each day and this cause a big problem. I need to use Quick pic to view my photos and videos but need to pay if looking for no ad. Also the paid Quick pic searching function was fake. Secondly, I found out Honor format for viewing apps sometimes not compatible with western format. Some apps won’t show entire page when I unfold the screen. Like this morning I opened Discord on front screen and right side of the chat was not showing. I need to back out and go to other apps and it go back to normal. Very inconsistent and honestly think why should I adapt these defect? I sold my Honor today for using only a month and bought Fold 5, it’s a relief for me.
I also like Honor V2 for its design but they don't sell in my country. Now I'm super happy with my Fold 5. And I bet Samsung has better software and durability than Honor V2.
I'm finally switching from the IPhone to the Galaxy Z Fold 5. My iPhones main loudspeaker has officially caused me to switch platforms because I just can't wait another month for the next iPhone to come out. I can't wait to experience Android for the first time in my life full time.
I believe that this was a good move from Samsung. It's a palatable enough update for fold 3 users to upgrade. Plus, fold 4 users like myself can keep on using a perfectly functioning phone knowing that we're not missing anything meaningful. I would rather have them iterate than just switch up the formula completely.
@@autograndeunlimited tf u don't even know me lol how you gonna say I don't complain 🤣...the fold has been the same since the 3 ...keep justifying giving Samsung your money for a lazy product lol ..enjoy man

3 to 5 is a nice jump especially if you're in the US with the $800 trade in. Way better battery life slightly wider front display, thinner bezels, better cameras, much faster performance even in low performance mode, thinner and much lighter.
Ha oh, come on with the title. You and many of you RU-vid tec reviewers will never move from apple. That's why you never complain about anything with apple.
I like the narrow display. As you say its easy to operwte one handed. If you need to use both hands its supposed to be unfolded.. that is.... Kinda the point isnt it...
No ... Nobody wants to unfold to full blown tablet mode everytime they want to do something..the cover display is just too tall which isn't one hand friendly and too narrow which introduces errors while typing etc . A good foldable operated close to a normal phone while closed but offers a big screen tablet experience when you consume media , multitask or game .
Be honest with me,to the people who switched from Apple to Samsung. I have had Apple for 6 years now,got all the headphones and MacBook..Was it hard to switch to Samsung and do you regret it?
7:34 I don't get this, it's the same thing with the US as it was also hit with inflation and a recession. So.. why are the prices the same but it's been raised everywhere else? Answer = Samsung makes other countries subsidize US pricing.
Like you say, they start fall behind..:) F3 was Ok and 4 small upgrades but can´t go on to play safe a third time, push that camera high, and give larger battery with inbuilt spen and it would be a solid everyday device. :) Can be done this days with some smart thinking from samsung.
