@@niklayons3327 nik I think you canceled it, but if you follow the channel (even the last video I did about the oculus Quest) you will know that I talk about it a lot. Simply this is a comparison between 2 other headsets? why didn't I talk about the Oculus or the original Vive or the lenovo or others? well, because this is Vive Pro against O+, also the pimax is not on the market yet, they have my 800 dollars from a month and I dont have any date. You can't buy it. That's a matter of fact.

Ok so I have been a Vive user since the Vive first came out and have owned the O+ for two weeks now. When I first got the O+ and plugged it in everything was not working correctly, it was blurry and the tracking was messing up with the video going upside down. So I was playing a game and the whole world just turned upside down. This was due to my Vive being installed on the system. Step by Step here is how I fixed everything and made it better. Skip steps 1-3 if you only have the O+ on your system. 1. You have to uninstall EVERYTHING VR on your system first including SteamVR. 2. Plug in your O+ and go through the setup for WMR on the O+ setting up everything with your boundaries. 3. Download and install Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR this will also install SteamVR now close everything. 4. Right click on the Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR in Steam and click properties, uncheck Use Desktop Game Theatre, click on the Local Files tab, and click on Browse Local Files. 5. Double click Resources folder then Settings folder and right click on Default. Click copy then past and rename the copy to Default - Backup. 6. Open Default with Notepad and change "renderTargetScale" : 1.0 to "renderTargetScale" : 10.0, click File and Save. This is just target scale and will only go up to where it needs it. 7. Open Start and in the Start window scroll down on the left side to the Mixed Reality Portal and drag and drop it to the bottom onto your Taskbar. 8. Click on the WMR symbol on the taskbar it will then start up your O+ and then open WMR for SteamVR. 9. On the SteamVR window click at the top of where it says Ready on Steam (Version #) and click on Settings. 10. Checkmark Do Not Disturb if you do not want the Steam notifications to keep popping up on you in game. Click on the Developer Tab on the left and make sure Enable Advanced Supersampling Filter is unchecked. 11. Click on Video Tab on the Left and click on Manual Override now move the slider to 150%. SteamVR Dev told me that WMR headsets will go blurry if you go over 150% and that the software is capped there at the moment. Close Settings. 12. Right Click on your speaker Icon in the bottom right corner while the headset is still running and click on Sounds, click on the Playback Tab, scroll down to the Green Checkmark, click on it, and click properties. 13. Click on the Advanced Tab and uncheck Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device. Now click on the Spatial Sound Tab, click on the drop down under Spatial sound format, and select Windows Sonic for Headphones. Click on Apply, then OK, then OK. You now have 360 degree spatial sound in the headphones. Not sure why it does not turn it on automatically but it doesn't. This should set you up correctly and everything should be a lot sharper with spatial 360 degree sound. I guess I should do a video on this but I just do not have my system setup for recording. After I did this everything is super sharp, the sound is now 360 degrees and better than my Vive. I will post this on SweViver and MRTV post also.

Thanks for the info, but I don't think it's universal. I've seen a bunch of reviews who plugged an O+ into a system w/ a Vive (almost certainly he did the same thing for this video) and had no problems. People are even linking their Vive controllers and lighthouses to the O+ without uninstalling everything first.

I owned the occulus, tested the vive, and finally i just received the O+, wow.. i like the difference ! the futur of VR has to be simple and not too expensive, HTC is the only one to stay at a high price, Oculus droped the price around 500 too. I liked the vive and Oculus, but for example, on Elite Dangerous you have to read text, and it's uncomfortable to read text on Vive and Oculus, on the O+ it's clear and no space between pixel to read text, i like it :)

I have a Vive Pro and the setup is really, very easy. Sure when you first get the headset, it's intimidating when it comes to setting it up for the first time. However, it's only 4 step process and anyone can set it up from scratch in less than 30 seconds. Regarding the audio, I didn't fine the Vive audio all that good. So I removed the Vive headphones as I already had my own pair. I have since read that there is some find of limitation that can be changed in Windows which will greatly increase the audio clarity and bass volume. I also have to add, the Vive customer service (at least in Australia) is extremely friendly and very helpful (provided you are not a d!ckhed). If you have any technical issues, I highly recommend you get in touch with them. Anyhow, a pretty good review and interesting to hear your perspective on these two headsets 👍

I have been reading a lot of reviews of the Odyssey+. I have only seen praise for the screen. I am not sure what you mean by many people don't like the anti-SDE technology.
@moarsaur
@moarsaur 5 лет назад
Many complaints about the sweet spot, i.e. getting the lenses positioned for clearest viewing is the least forgiving of any headset on the market. If you also can't get a comfortable fit (#1 complaint in reviews), then even if you get the sweet spot dialed in, you're going to shake it loose. But what he's talking about is that some people find the image blurry even with the sweet spot dialed in, because blurring the image is what the anti-SDE layer does.

@@Tyrielwood This is difficult for flight sim users. I fly DCS modules and it is essential to read the gauges or digital readouts such as the radar scan and others. The analogue gauges of the WWII aircraft would need needle approximation to determine what the needle is resting on. Question: is there a method in software adjustment to make the image as contrasty/sharp as possible even with the SDE? Great videos for me to make a choice. Kudos!
@benshakespeare268
@benshakespeare268 5 лет назад
Tyriel, find a "depth of field" (or DOF) calculator on the net to find the ideal distance, aperture & focal point for your studio. Then, manually set your camera's aperture and focal point to the centre of where your face will appear in the shoot, instead of using auto focus. This will stop the focus from jumping around throughout the video.

I'm waiting for my Odyssey + to arrive. It's my first headset but I had experience with the Rift, Vive and Samsung Gear VR. But I've been following the VR industry since Rift was launched and when Rift arrived I found it to be too expensive for what it was. The first thing that I noticed when I first tried Rift and Vive was the SDE. A total deal breaker for me. So my next hope was the Pimax, which I hoped had no SDE thanks to the higher resolution. I was going to get it but then the Odyssey + came along with the anti SDE and all the pictures I saw pushed me towards the Odyssey +. Not to mention the awesome 299 dollar deal. For me the biggest priority for VR should be to eliminate the SDE and provide higher resolution

Perhaps you forgot you can combine both. Use Samsung for head / visuals / audio and Vive tracking system for controllers. Then you have almost perfect VR system :) Though i heard some people complaining about missing joystick on Vive controllers. It's extra control option and some people will love it. The Vive controllers have not much buttons and one tracking pad, which is not much compared to WMR controllers. WMR controllers are better. Pretty hard to decide.

I do like the Odyseey+ alot for it superior screen and easy of use. The Samsung works great with Inside Out Tracking, but the wearing comfort is not great at all for me. The Anti SDE filter works good, but the blurry unclear picture which it provides is a big downside. Inside the car is clear and sharp, but outside is too blurry and not clear enough. I'm beginning to suspect that people who like anti-SDE don't have 20/20 vision. For anyone with sharp eyesight the slightest blurring looks like an instagram filter.

Then that's pretty much I was saying in the first place. People with 20/20 vision i.e. perfect eyesight notice more detail, thus the blurring effect of the anti-SDE screens is more pronounced to them, myself included. SDE sucks but blurry vision sucks even more if your experience of reality is characterized by sharp visuals. Those who already see things blurry half or all the time probably don't notice that big of a difference and might prefer a little blurring to SDE, or perhaps might even prefer a little blurring in general because it more closely matches their habitual perception of reality. Perhaps headsets could someday give users the choice to adjust the ratio of SDE to blurriness to the level that best matches their own eyesight or preference at any given moment. Virtual reality should be about experiencing different realities but also having the option to do that through your own familiar lens of reality.

You could've mentioned the pros and cons of the controllers. Otherwise a nice video! I like the Pro as my waiting-for-pimax-hmd. Lighthouse tracking is so awesome and the comfort of the Pro enables me to play for instance Elite Dangerous for as long as I like. I played 13 hours straight one time (lol). I like the clarity and the screen door effect is so small that I never see it while I'm playing. Just when I stop and focus on seeing it. I've never tried the Odyssey+ but it seems really nice. But, Samsung, for the love of gawd - make it available in the European market, you bungholes.

Coming from the Vive and now also having an Odyseey+ I find: DIsplay: The Odyseey+ has a superior screen. The higher resolution and improved SDE are really fantastic. If wathing movies, video or TV shows the Odyseey+ is easily are superior choice. Setup: I use my Odyseey+ more as it basically plug and play, so jumping in to play a quick games happens more frequently. The Vive was more of a weekend device or taking and setting up at a friends house device. If I'm having a get together to play VR my wireless Vive is HMD of choice, because of the reason below. Comfort: I have few issues with either. The Odyseey+ does begin to bother my forehead after a while and leaves a mark. The Odyseey+ does have more light bleed, but usually not a big issue for me, but I guess that will depend how well it fits your face. Using my glasses is far better with the Odyseey+. I can use glasses with my Vive, but it's much more of a pain in the butt. Tracking: Vive is hands down has the superior tracking system. In some games I do notice to inferior tracking of the Odysee+. It does annoy me in some games like Longbow and space pirate trainer. Other games I don't notice. To me though tracking is the single most important factor. While playing the better visuals are nice , but once in games it becomes less of a factor. Smooth consistent game play and tracking kill the game experience faster than anything else. Audio: I can't talk about the Vive Pro, but the Vive with Deluxe Audio Strap I find far superior to the Odyseey+ . Everytime I use the Odyseey+ I notice the audio downgrade. Attempting to adjust the headphone position helps a bit, but still just bla. The inability to remove them and use your own headphones on the Odyseey+ just makes it even worse. In the end, I'm glad I have the Odyseey+ especially at the $300 Black Friday pricing. Each has it Pros and cons, but Unlike other I would not replace my Vive with an Odysee+, especially as my Vive has the Delux Audio Strap and the wireless adapter, making it fantastic for large room scale game play. Now, I'm just waiting to see if this rumored Valve HMD actually materializes. If it can deliver the best of both, at a reasonable (non HTC) price point, I'll jump on that day one!

I bought an htc vive pro more than one week ago for the 200 discount and a 100 more from the web site selling that... overpriced peace of crap vr headset ! The audio is so lame that the simple definition of calling that thing PRO is an offense ! It's really heavy, even the hdmi wire makes you feel like as a diver. (maybe it's good for playing with narcosis) The wands are so akwards compared to the oculus touch ( no stick and the grips buttons are abysmal ) that's why i'am not surprised that most of vr users are not using for long their vr headset ( as for the rift most of the owners only got 2 sensors and it's the same story but for a different reason ) You can put and adjust your oculus rift in 3 seconds with an excellent sweet spot ( with the vive so called pro that's a total different story) and the audio immerse you in vr ( but those things are here for decoration I suppose no real audio functionality) , the vive pro has almost nothing for it except its insane price ! I can only speak of the vive pro compared to an oculus rift but for those who lived in the US and managed to catch the 299$ bargain for the odyssey+ that must have been a better bet than wasting in my case 1106 € instead of 1490 ( with no commerciale license included + 199 € I guess they picked that name for no reason at all , should have called it : "vive nearly half pro... something" ) The vive trackers are the only reason why arcades are going with HTC otherwise I don't see why anyone would be happy to spend that much money for such an expensive peace of shitty hardware ! and about clarity : the vive pro is sufficient enough to realise that having a better resolution is not enough we need better graphics, more polygons and HD textures cause the games do not look better it's the total opposite) But thanks to Nvidia ; no GPU will be able to handle it for the next 4 years !

Copying what I wrote elsewhere: So....a week later with my VPro, I may return mine. Really want to like it but so many hrs spent with the confusing Steam interface (for VR at least), useless VivePort interface, constant loss of headset and controller connectivity, constantly removing headset to use keyboard and mouse to start or end (with last sort Task Master), not terribly well fitting headset (and this comparing to the Odyssey first gen) and final straw - no video streaming without forking up more $. My Lenovo and Samsung were so intuitive and seamless. Just put it on and everything starts right up, no hassle. Where's the fun when you have to troubleshoot every damn time you go to have some fun? By the time I have everything working well enough, the controller batteries are on 1-2/4 bars. This is stupid..or I'm stupid or both but it's too much hassle for no excess reward. Setup was not difficult at all, but lots of non responsive and locking up software. It may track better - that's the only and significant plus side. Your decision.

@Animal_lives_matter
@Animal_lives_matter 5 лет назад
@@TaidaDave Ah that's a shame. According to a Valve email they haven't deliberately locked it out from Windows 7, but it won't be officially supported, so it may not work on all systems and performance may not be as good as Windows 10. Found some Windows 10 optimization scripts on reddit which I'll give a try later today. I wouldn't mind having Win10 on a separate SSD and then just boot from that whenever using VR, but the problem is I have to physically disconnect my Win7 SSD's every time, because Win10 does something weird to them which causes "the disk has errors" on the next boot of Win7 and I have to run checkdisk to correct the errors. It's like Win10 changes some parameters in the file table of every drive to make it compatible with Win10, and then when Win7 tries to boot from it, it needs to run checkdisk to fix the errors that Win10 made. So what I need is a physical switch that can switch over to a different SATA ports. First I need to solve a separate Win10 issue where transferring files from one location to another on the OS's SSD results in extremely slow file transfer speeds (~2MB/sec). I think it might be windows defender scanning each file, maybe those reddit scripts can disable it. I don't use any third party antivirus, and my system is pretty decent, i7-4790k + GTX1070 with good quality SSDs (Samsung 850 Evo + Sandisk Extreme II).

I already own the original Samsung Odyssey and didn't even know the + existed until this video. I'm not going to buy the + just because they added a filter to reduce SDE. All they did is blur out the SDE thus making the image blurry, no thanks. The only REAL way to reduce SDE is to increase resolution. I also own the Vive Pro and while it is a nice overall product, mine didn't leave the factory quite right. It has all kinds of intermittent issues. It's already been sent to HTC twice to fix these issues but they send it back only a little better each time to where there are still issues but they are less frequent, but still happen and are still random. They refuse to just replace it too, they just send it back just a little less broken each time. That said when it is working right it is way better than the Samsung, the Samsung has too many tracking issues and for obvious reasons does not work with Steam as well as the Vive Pro. I also own and like the Oculus Rift a lot, especially the touch controls, but the Rift has lower resolution than either of these and that is my most important spec when I reach for one.

So uninstall everything VR first, install the O+, then setup Windows mixed reality for SteamVR this will also install SteamVR. Now go back and setup Vive again. You can not have both headsets plugged in at the same time either it will conflict. If you are saying the Vive is sharper than you do not have the O+ setup correctly.
