Hi Jonah! Great video, thanks for the information, it's been very helpful. I wants sound bar with Dolby Atmos but have an open living room with a vaulted ceiling, like yourself. What system would you recommend, and if possible with Dolby Atmos? Many thanks! Dave
I only like and sub creators that answer questions, when they make a video then after a week never go back to the questions, they dont deserve it. If you wan to run a channel and be successful its work, you have to talk to the people who support you, a simple answer here or there and we are happy.
5.1 wired setups? I have a 2009 LG 5.1 Blue Ray home theater with a 2009 47 inch 240 Hz TV that both still rock. So I wonder how these wireless 5.1 or 9.1 systems sound as compared to that.
Thanks, much, Jonah! I'm considering buying this for my 75 inch Q90T and was completely lost within the soundbar realm of madness. I was tossed between getting Sonos, which was recommended by about every professional audio installer and this Samsung, simply because it's the same brand of my TV. At my age, my DJ days are 25 years behind me and if this system sounds good for sports and Blu-Ray movies, I'm all in. Plus, I'm, now, too lazy to shop for comparable soundbars at similar price points. Your review is fantastic! I appreciate you buying it on our behalf.
J, Great review and concise! I previously owned the Samsung r950 soundbar, and ended up selling it to a friend. The surrounds and subwoofer were barely audible, not to mention the constant static coming from my surrounds. The sound is fantastic when listening to Dolby Atmos, but other times I can only hear the soundbar, while the surrounds and subwoofer were silent. I ended up purchasing the Sonos 5.1 set, and never looked back. 🙂
Thank you so much for highlighting that an optical connection degrades the audio from 9.x to 5.x. I assumed optical is the highest bandwidth connection.
Thank you for such a great reviews. I was considering purchasing this sound bar as the price has just dropped by half here in Australia. Be bring very suspicious I of course jumped on RU-vid for reviews and glad I found your channel. I won’t be wasting my money on this product.
Jonah, even though my JBL 9.1 soundbar sounded great, I ordered a renewed 950T and like it even more. Man, the sound effects are all over the room and I love it!
Which do you prefer more the Samsung or jbl asking before I buy. I really love music so can you please help me decide on which one sounds better for music?
@@itsvontae718 If you can find the q950a at a good price, GET IT! It will blow you away! BUT, if the q950t is more in your budget, it's a great one too.
I found the review itself very informative. Good descriptions of the equipment itself, the very beginning and the very end itself were particularly helpful. Advice on setting up the equipment itself, always very good. Sometimes these products take a little know-how to get them working properly. Overall the video itself was very helpful. Thank you. Very, much.
I just bought this. Paid $1,200 at best buy. It sounds great and set up super fast and easy with was nice. My main issue is the same as your issue. Making those adjustments to get the best sound based on seating, was a pain in the arse. definitely easier with 2 people so you're not up and down
Good review. I was able to get one of these soundbars around Christmas 2021 for $1050 as an open box item at Best Buy. It was in perfect shape, so I figure it simply was a return, so it was a steal IMO at that price. Soundwise, excellent sound from a soundbar. One of my biggest complains are that there will be moments that the subwoofer and/or the rear speakers are offline. I bought STITCH by Monoprice smart power strips to power cycle these speakers with my phone when they go offline, instead of having to unplug the speakers. This may be a common issue among similar soundbar setups, but it certainly annoys me. Second biggest complaint is the diplay, which I can't for the life of me understand why they didn't use a front display like every other soundbar, so I end up using the phone app more than I'd like. I also agree that the cloth is definitely a poor choice of materials as it collects dust, pet hair, and more, but I'm over it lol. Anyways despite some faults, mainly the ones I mentioned, which were also mentioned in the review, I'm very happy with the soundbar which I plan to enjoy for a long time. :-)
@JonahMatthes. Been thinking of getting this soundbar but with the announcement of the HW-Q950A (no official release date yet) do you think i should wait until it released to compare or should i just get it now?
Thank you for your review, based on what you said and my own observations I bought the Q900A, which is the same setup without the back speakers. I share your opinion about them and decided to save some cash and avoid them. I found it on sale at 650€ which is great price for my area and so far I am quite impressed with the product.
Samsung always did use those super small woofers.... It would be almost perfect if they would just do a nice 8inch sub tuned low in a nicely ported enclosure on like 300rms
Just bought this today, its fuckin epic. Except for the display on the top instead of the front, which I honestly didn't give two fucks about once id heard the performance, it is an absolute beast. The clarity of voices is superb, the dolby atmos is mega, cost me £1125 using 25% discount code on samsung website. So rrp was £1500 deal is on until 3/11/20. If you're into you're movie and music then get it, it will massively improve the entire experience of whatever you're listening too 😍
Just ordered one tonight. Found a "Black Friday" sale from a reputable eBay seller. $978.00 No tax and free shipping! I think that is a win right? I couldn't justify even considering the Sonos Arc at that price...
Thx for the review! What do you think about the Q900, same system as the Q950 without the 2 rear speakers? Will it be immersive enough? Asking that because in Europe, Q900 is about 790 vs 1490 for Q950 which I am finding insane for the 2 rear added speakers.
I finally fixed the sound dropout on this soundbar after 2 years of use. The good news is that there are no more sound interruptions, the bad news is that I should have done it 2 years ago. The solution was so simple that I can't stop laughing at myself. I simply changed the placement of the subwoofer to match the soundbar. Instead of standing under the soundbar, I placed it at the back of the room, behind the surround speakers, so now they see each other in a straight line, no more Bluetooth interruptions, no more disconnection , no more dropouts.
I just purchased the Q950T. I have a LG OLED tv with only ARC. From what I understand in your review, the only way to get the FULL details on the Atmos is to have a tv with E-ARC, or to add some kind of secondary audio device? Is it worth it for me to do all this? Will the sound be THAT much worse if I just connect it to the ARC? I don't want to spend so much money on the sounder only to not have optimum sound. Thanks in advance for your help! I really enjoyed your review!
Thank you for the great review. Is there still only one button on the remote to switch trough the source? If Yes, do I need to stand up from my couch to check which source has been selected :)? This would be really annoying...
Thanks for the in depth review! I recently bought this system and i'm not sure i'm getting the performance from the subwoofer that I should. It seems like it's working, as I feel the air coming out the port, but even with the SW turned up all the way, i'm not getting the rumbling through the room that gives you that 'wow' factor with subs. Just wondering if the SW is defective? Or if it's the placement? (it's a fairly large room and is behind a chair about half way between the TV and the right rear speaker). Or maybe my expectations are too high? Would be curious to know your insight. Thanks!
It’s hard to tell without me hearing it. First I would try moving it to different spots in the room. If it’s still not performing right, I would reach out to Samsung support. The subwoofer for this system isn’t very impressive in my opinion, but you should still be able to hear it well with it cranked all the way up. Hope this helps!
@@JonahMatthes Thanks for the reply! Yeah, figured you'd likely need to hear it. Want to come by to listen? JK. haha. With it up all the way, I would think it would be annoyingly load, even if it was a crap unit. Maybe it's just me. I'll take your advice and try moving it to a different spot and then reach out to Samsung.
@@paulmeredith9806 I felt the same way as soon as I turned on the unit. Where is the bass?? I do have a big family room with faulted ceilings, but I immediately turned the sw and the bass all the way up and still feel like I don't get much. Very disappointing. My last two surround sound systems, that were both way cheaper then this one, had tons more bass and would shake the room when it was loud. Did you try moving it around the room at all? I might try and stick mine as close as possible to my main spot on the couch and see what that does lol.
Crossover adjustment. Set it a bit higher. Sounds like it's only getting the super lows which aren't very frequent. 80hz is probably good. Get the subwoofer playing sounds as high as possible until it starts picking up low male voices. When it picks up low male voices, drop it down one frequency setting to remove the voices. That should be perfect.
Hey there---so I do have a pretty open layout. What system would you suggest for something like that? I just can't seem to justify dropping the 4-figure pricepoint for a system that I primarily hear out of the sound bar...
Do you recommend this soundbar? Did you face with any bug or problem? How is dolby atmos experience? I can buy it for 1000 usd with special Samsung discount, so is it worth it? I already placed order but im thinking to cancel it.
This is why i subscribed, well done video... Alot of talk of this being the best.. Samsung label tells me no way!! Experience with 2 diff models has put me off them for life, Tv's r perfect but not sound!
i have the q900t and as you said it is buggy and sound quality changes or drop connection but i had a great deal for 700$..do you think it is worth it at that price point
check your Wifi Hz settings. It's possible that your router and soundbar are sending around the same frequencies, which causes drop outs, or crackles. It should be possible to change either one of them I think, so it's on a slightly different frequency.
Thanks for the great review!. Voice is a HUGE deal breaker. I always have to adjust volume with my existing Samsung 2.1 - and it has a pre-programmed Voice setting, but it sacrifices the rest of the sound quality. How is voice with Sonos? Sonos seems to have exponentially better software/app whereas the Samsung software/app is pretty basic. The bonus for Samsung is the multiple HDMI + eArc where as Sonos only has eArc. Samsung works seamlessly with my existing Samsung TV, so that gives me peace of mind. They’re comparable in price (Sonos Arc +. Subwoofer + One SL speakers combo) with the Samsung, but Sonos has a nicer cleaner look to it. Leaning towards Sonos Arc as the first component and will add on with time.
Great review! It’s on sale now for $1,500, is it still worth it for that price? Also, I read some customers saying something about not being compatible with the Appletv 4k. Could you please tell me if there is any issue pairing this soundboard with the Appletv 4k in terms of playing Dolby atmos.
Hey, thanks for your great review! I have a question, maybe you can help me or the community. In Germany, the HW-Q950A Model 2021 costs exactly the same as HW-Q935B Model 2022. So, what should I take? the newer model mid-end or the old high-end model from Samsung. Thank you very much, looking forward to your answer- Many greetings
I have recently decided to upgrade my sound bar that I have currently (no arc/Earc devices) which lead me to doing some research and several of your review vids. Your content was great with your honest opinions and straight forward approach and tech explanations made me subscribe and look forward to future reviews. I do have a question, my living room is almost identical to yours with the open area (no side walls to bounce off of) and vaulted ceilings, what would you recommend to combat this? The A/V "EXPERTS" in my area just want me to buy more stuff to solve this (upcharge me).Your opinion/advise would be very helpful as i am currently leaning to the Nakamichi. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching my videos! Unfortunately, there isn’t much that you can do for very open living rooms. Most soundbars utilize bouncing sounds off of walls in some way. The Nakamichi Shockwafe Ultra is a great surround option here because of the 2 sets of surround speakers. Upward sound effects won’t work well, but at least you can get the full surround experience. Hope this helps!
Hey Jonah, if I want to wall mount this Soundbar, what should the distance between the Soundbar and the tv be and also the distance between the Soundbar to the cabinet below it be? I’m worried that it might affect the sound dispersion. Thank you in advance.
Hi Jonah , I just bought this soundbar . I have LG C9 and playstation 4 pro , I just wanted to to know if you connect external devices drirectly to soundbar or to TV a, nd then use easrc for video passthrough. What is the best option in your experience , I have massive collection of ps4 games which support PCM 5.1 , and i think this soundbar's hdmi in ports don't suport pcm 5.1 . I guess connecting directly to Tv will give widespread support for Video formats. What's ur advice on it
Nice review! I am waiting for comparison with Sonos... Even if at this level the user experience should be at highest standards, and this one does not look so promising on this.
Hi Johah, I am planning to get 85" QLED(2021 Q70A) and a matching sound bar to have home theatre setup in my lounge space. My lounge size is 12.5 foot depth, width is 10.5 foot and ceiling height is 7.9 foot. I wish to have 4 seats in a row. Mostly i watch regular TV shows, movies, and sports. I dont play games on this home theatre. Could you please advise on choosing between Home theatre soundbar samsung HW-Q900A and Q870A(2021). Both are in same price the range. HW-Q900A has 7.1.2 channel sound without rear speakers. HW-Q870A has 5.1.4 channel sound with wireless rear speakers. Could you please suggest me to choose the better soundbar from the above two and few tips on setup, considering my room space, TV size and seating capacity. Thanks in advance.
Any recommendation on speaker levels for the soundbar and rear speakers since you own this and what mode for movies and music do you prefer? Thank you so much!!🤘
Currently on offer UK wide for £999 Only issue .... No where has it available 😂 At that price it has to be worth it (about 1300 us dollars 🇺🇸 ) The thing is, I can't see it coming bck in stock. Is it by any chance getting replaced by a new release? Or will they wait until the supposed black Friday deals are completed before restocking shops and websites?
Thanks for this video. This is really different from the other reviews that I have seen for this soundbar. One quick question. Samsung advertised that this produces immersive sound only when used with QLED TV. Is yours a QLED TV? And whats the advantages of having another media player to connect to Soundbar instead of directly connecting it to TV?
Hey Quick question. I have my Chromecast, Apple TV box and sky all connected to the tv through hdmi. How do I connect the Samsung 9.1.4 through hdmi to get the full use out of all the speakers ? I currently have an optical cable connecting my current Soundbar to the tv. As it’s an optical it picks up all the boxes mentioned above. You mention the optical won’t give the full 9.1.4 experience Thanks
Biggest thing missing is that it has no Dolby Vision passthrough , almost every new Netflix show is having Dolby Vision support and also no auto calibration
it does have dolby vision passthrough ( I have the bar) it also has earc so you don't even need to connect your devices to your soundbar and connect them directly to tv
Thanks for the useful review ! You showed the exact details i was looking for. Now a question, i own an "old" Samsung UE65F8080 (7 years now) will this tv already make sense with this soundbar ? I mean, no dolby atmos from the tv or is a tecnology embedded in the soundbar itself ???
Hi, my friend can you tell me what is better is this Samsung or the Nakamichi 9.2.4 SSE Shockwave ultra because I'm curious ....thanks for your answer ...
There's things that I like about both. JBL has a smaller footprint, but when you are using the surrounds the front isn't near as strong. If they were the same exact price, I'd go for the Q950T.
@@JonahMatthes Thanks for the super quick reply ! currently here there is a $500 difference and I dont know if it is worth the difference ? also I have heard that the rear speakers and base are better with JBL
After one year use I will highly recommend it if you get it for the right price. I paid half the price of retail and would not upgrade unless my tv had eARC.
