I can't tell you how much I agree with u...Samsung big fail..big fat fucking fail!!!!!! How bout the bullshit "flexzone" drawer..🤬..seriously worst 4 k I ever spent
I have had this fridge for 4 years and every time I try to clean it, I try to figure out how to clean the drawers. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! NOW, the side baskets that hold condiments on doors!!
I had been wrestling with trying to clean wayward food particles out of the front of these Samsung drawers for a month now. I had the hubby do the disassembly following your video instructions. As others have experienced, one side of the drawer cracked at the bottom but not enough to warrant replacing. After cleaning, the re-assembly was a snap. To prevent the need of disassembling these ridiculously designed drawers, we are going to permanently seal the entire crevice with a clear acrylic caulk. Thank you for posting your video. It was enormously helpful.
Thank you! I tried to wash it out and gunk got caught in that space between the drawer and the front. There is a special place in heaven for people who make random RU-vid tutorials!
The white part looked like it was going to bend instead of popping up, and on the bottom, nothing ever clicked for me. I'm afraid to do it harder, afraid it was break!
Thank you! Drawers are presentable for the first time in years. I don’t think they thoroughly considered the user experience when they designed this fridge. Can’t believe how easily stuff got trapped between the parts
OMG! I followed your instructions to the T and it worked! I had to find a tiny screwdriver, but once I did, it worked. I ran through the house afterward, arms in the air, screaming victory. My husband looked at me and said, "Oh good dear. You needed that win." Finally! No more shredded cheese stuck in the seam!
Found your video during my 1000th time trying to clean the drawers on our fridge.....known in our household as Samsuck due to several issues .....but I digress. Anyway....we were finally able to clean the gunk between the layers of the crisper drawers thanks to your informative video. We are absolutely jubilant...for real!! Bless you!!
I have this problem too. It’s a terrible design. #samsung. What were you thinking?? I’ve tried many times to push those tabs in. There’s no flex or movement. I’ll end up cracking the plastic.
Thank You! I finally found the time to clean the fridge, and scrubbed and scrubbed on both sides of these drawers, but couldn't get at the crud. Thought that surely they must come apart, but how? Checked manual; nothing there. And found you! I'm not sure how you figured it out, but I'm glad you did. I used the skinniest screwdriver I could find so as not to break the plastic. Thank you so much.
Thanks for taking the time to put the video online. I tried the method in the video, but could not get the door tabs to click out. I also tried hot water without success and managed to crack a little area. I gave up with the screwdriver and thought about it a bit. Finally decided to use my AIR COMPRESSOR. Took a few minutes, but if you direct the compressed air in the area where she puts the screwdriver and run it all around the seams, eventually it will blow all the debris out. Sweet. It worked a treat looks and looks better now. I guess for spilt milk and maybe liquid mess that gets gathered in there then soak in hot water first then blow it out with a compressor - should work fine. Good luck!
Well, I finally managed to get that front part off the veg drawer, after cracking the plastic in 3 different places and chunks breaking off. Won't be doing that again! What a stupid design! Why have a separate front piece??
I spent an hour with technical help who had no clue how to take this drawer apart. So I talked to Gen in parts and she suggested we check out You Tube. We followed your directions and my drawer is clean! I actually messaged the tech guy back. Thank you so much for your video.
I have a different Samsung refrigerator and the drawer pulled apart. Samsung were hopeless in giving help on how to fix it. Your video gave me the confidence to have a go myself, so I took out a screwdriver and had a go. Fixed it in minutes and saved myself £45 for a new drawer. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the video! Removing the white trim from the top of the drawer is actually not necessary. Its comes apart and goes back together with it being attached.
Letha W, thank you for taking the time and effort to post this seemingly mundane video, but when your refrigerator needs a serious deep cleaning, and you have a French door Samsung, this is the one to watch.
Letha W- thank you for this! As an aside, this method has worked for me every time. But I'd much rather have a crack in the drawers than food particles trapped in these horrible drawers!
THANK YOU! I thought it was possible to take it apart and it was getting a bit gross. So glad I googled it. Bless you for saving my fridge! I really appreciate you!
Thank you for this video I am so glad to finally get this clean. There are some lessons (thanks to some of the comments below too): 1. The top strip comes off fairly easily, but I had a tiny piece break. Don't stick the screwdriver in too far. 2. Before taking off the front panel use a hairdryer to warm up the plastic, in particular the plastic in the bottom corners where the 'tabs' are. 3. Continuing on the front panel, you will find one side is much harder (ie. "impossible") to dislodge. Don't "stress" the plastic and damage it, go to the other side. 4. In learning the above I did lose a couple of small pieces of plastic, but nothing affecting functionality or the cosmetics. If you follow the video with the above in mind you may get through undamaged! I finally have clean drawers :)
Totally worked! TY! Side note, I got away with avoiding the first step (removing the silver bezel/handle piece) on a Samsung fridge that's only 3 years old. All other steps were needed.
Letha W Yeah, I wimped out! I was just waiting on it to break. I'll see how it goes in the future before trying again. Thanks for the video! I have a love/ hate relationship with all my Samsung appliances. *snip* I just deleted a bunch haha
Guess what??? I broke one side of a the drawer.. but others were smooth after.... like seriously... now I need to buy drawer.... 👍👍👍👍 well done for you doing it smoothly ...
Ha ha got me. It broke on both sides. You couldn't actually show how to "just pop that up" with a camera less than 5 feet away, could you? As in, exactly WHERE did you put in the screwdriver? My drawer is now trashed. Thank you. You win.
@@juliatillery7805 hardly the video's fault. Samsung has at least 5(that I've seen) different drawer designs, all with terrible, fiddly clips in different spots on plastic that goes through a fair amount of temp fluctuations and gradually gets more brittle. Samsung gives you the choice of breaking them or letting crumbs and mold build up.
Thank you! I've been after my husband for months to figure this out so I could clean it. He found your video and nearly lost his mind trying to dissemble it.... Cracked a tiny piece of plastic off. I took over and it worked perfectly!
YES! Thank you for taking the time to make this video and post it. I am certain that I would have turned that three-piece plastic drawer into a DOZEN pieces if I tried it without watching this video.
Thanks for this info. It was helpful to see how much pressure was needed to pry the pieces apart and how loud the noise was. I was concerned about breakage, but it worked. Thanks again.
Thank-you it worked. My wife found your video after I told her that it wasn't meant to be taken apart. So thanks, I guess. It would probably be a good idea not to do this with a cold drawer as there would be a greater risk of the tabs breaking. I soaked the front section in warm soapy water prior to attempting this and it worked fine, just like in the video.
Thank you for this video. NOTE: you do not need to go though step one and remove the white plastic. Also do not push all the way in step two as you will end up breaking either the bottom of the drawer or the front panel. Instead, press on the tab on each side and push front panel away from the drawer. Once the bottom is released, rotate the front panel and it will come off.
THANKS for this straight-forward process video! I love my Samsung T9000 refrigerator (which I have had for 3 years), but have found the 2 drawers in the upper section to be impossible to clean THOROUGHLY...even soaking didn't work. Something had leaked in one of the drawers and it collected between where the front of the drawer overlaps. I had found no way to reach the soiled area and it was driving me nuts! Your instruction was perfect and I followed it without any problem. ~BLESSINGS~
The grime that had collected in the crevice along the drawer fronts had driven me crazy for some time but I was too afraid to pry it apart. Your video showed me exactly what to do and it worked out perfectly for me. Thanks very much.
Thank you so much. This design is driving me crazy. Ours did not come apart as easy as yours did, but your video was so helpful. I lined the bottom of the drawers with paper towel and I HOPE this will help keep the tiny crumbs out of this ridiculous crumb trap. :)
Thank you so much for posting this. I did not realize this would be really hectic to clean the crisper compartment until noticing the food trapped between the layers. This VDO helped save my time and damage to the new Fridge. LOL
Nicely done Letha - guessing the design has something to do with air circulation otherwise why would Samsung go the extra step (and expense) of segmenting the front of the drawer that way. Using a narrow flat-head screwdriver and the edge of the drawer as a fulcrum was just the thing. Having your bravery and cleverness as inspiration made the job easy and fast! Thanks:)
OMG! you are a lifesaving genius. Samsung would have a poorly designed drawer that would require this machination in order to disassemble a fridge drawer to clean it. Thank you. Samsung should pay you for making this video!
Thank You so much. I had somehow gotten pieces of shredded cheese stuck in the front pocket of one of my drawers. Realizing it was impossible to clean (after 24 hours of soaking and rinsing) I thought it would be there indefinitely. I could see the openings on either side of the drawers but did not know how to get it open. It took a lot of effort for me to get the white piece off and I had to slide a larger flathead screwdriver up underneath the lip to allow me to completely get it off. Then I actually cracked one side of the drawer a little bit (at the bottom) while trying to pop the bottom off. But most importantly I cleaned it and got the cheese out ! Thank You for the video, just be careful when popping the bottom off so you do not crack it like I did.
There is a ridiculously placed reset switch inside the ice maker. You have to pull the ice drawer out, locate the switch at the top, back, right and hold it for about 3 seconds.
support-us.samsung.com/nas/storage/201406271751003%5Estorage_attachment%5EHow_To_Reset_The_Ice_Makers_In_Samsung_Fench_Door_Refrigerators.pdf Mine looks slightly differe0nt but it puts you on the right track
I have had them out three times Re the ice maker. Mine kept freezing up. Took them three attempts to seal something up the back (including replacing parts. I have no confidence in it.
@@WRLAustralia It took 3 tries for my ice maker to work well. Samsung has recently come up with a new computer board to help reset the entire ice maker to keep from freezing up. Because I was under warranty it didn't cost me anything and I'm glad of that. I haven't had any problems, knock on wood, since that board was installed aprox. 5 months ago. All previous attempts to replace the ice maker were only temporarily fixed and the problems would start up again (leaking water when the ice dispenser was utilized and then freeing up in the unit itself). If you continue to have problems I would hope you could recommend to your Samsung repair person a new computer board, if they haven't offered that option already.
I've found it useful after you pull the ice drawer out to use mugs of boiling hot water inside the ice compartment to melt the ice. You just have to line the plastic with a towel so it doesn't melt the plastic and replenish the mugs frequently with new hot water to melt it. It works even with the fridge doors closed. Hope it's useful! It's not a preventative measure but at least you can use it again.
Just spent the better part of a Sunday afternoon taking this apart and cleaning it. Like so many others, I was afraid of breaking something--and I did. At least, seeing this video, I was confident that it does come apart. Broke off a corner of the bottom piece (where the tab is), but super-glued it back. I do not think the gap is functional, so I cello taped it closed--even the sides going up the drawer. I never want to take the chance of anything getting in there again. I agree that the entire design team should be fired! Thank you so much for posting this.
You saved my life! Your demo was spot on including one of your viewers comments to assist with info. NOW … if you can tell all of us how to keep my ice maker from clogging up all the time, perhaps it will help renew my confidence in Samsung. We gave up trying to figure it out to the point we bought a $2500 stand alone ice maker… $1000 more than the refrigerator.
Thank you so much for showing this! Nobody wants to take a screwdriver to a plastic drawer unless they know what they're doing. You've saved us a lot of water and time. Thank you.
Bought my fridge a year ago and was at my wits end with the gunk in between the drawer front and the bottom! Thank you for making this video! What a pain in the neck, lol! I would have never pried so hard had I not seen your video :)
Just completed the dissemble, cleaning and reassembly as instructed. Unfortunately as with many comments, one side came apart as instructed, while the other side broke. It caused a small piece to pop out that I think is large enough that it will be a candidate for crazy glue to put back in place...I think as most that "perhaps" the key is too warm the plastic drawer first before trying to take it apart? Makes sense. Anyway, thanks for the help in giving us most of the method to take it apart. My wife is delighted to be able to clean the bottom of the compartment....mostly pepper seeds! Bye the way I agree, Samsung products are attractive but have way too many problems. Its one thing after another with this fridge almost annually since we bought it 6 years ago!
Great job Letha. You should feel proud, over 2 years later you are still helping all of us. I could only get one of the lower corners to pop, but I could swing that side open and the other side released at that point. Kudos!
My husband got it opened up , ended up with a little crack & small broken white piece . But was happy to get the crease in the drawer clean . Thank you 😊
Dj Farah lahham my unit is pretty much worse, no way to disassemble to clean it! 😡😡😡 I got dirt in many corners I can't just reach. And it was so expensive for nothing.
I agree. I've had mine for about a year and have bits of crumbs stuck everywhere. I'm taking pictures and emailing Samsung. I shouldn't have to take apart the 8 shelves to get it clean.
OMG! I was in here having a fit about how to clean the grime and food and god knows what else from the groove under the plastic front. I was given an LG refrigerator from a friend thats less than tidy and I refuse to bring it inside the house until its sanitized. This made my whole month. Thank you!
Thank you so much for making this video. I was so annoyed that stuff got in the middle of the front and I couldnt spray it out. And you're the only one that shows how to get it seperated that I could find
Hopefully my fix will help some people out. As long as the particles aren't completely stuck, such as a spilled tacky liquid, there is an easier fix to hopefully avoid cracking it. If you can get some compressed air (I used my air compressor) just blow into the gap inside the drawer and below. The particles blew right out with very little effort and no risk of cracking. Thanks to the uploader as this video is very helpful, however at this time I was able to dodge the disassembly.
Thank you for this instruction. It is far more than Sumsung supply. Most likely because, this is the stupidest drawer design ever. I followed your instructions however found that both the top strip and front of drawer where much stiffer/harder causing brittle plastic to crack. This was despite the fact that I took great care trying not to damage anything. Now I need to find out whether anyone supplies parts for these drawers. Thanks again for the great video.
Here's a site for buying replacement parts (it's for the RF23J9011SR/AA model, but you can just type in your model # and you can find the part number from the interactive diagram link for fridge parts): www.samsungparts.com/Products/Parts_and_Accessories/RF23J9011SR/AA/Default.aspx
Thanks. FYI for others searching here; On my Samsung I did not have the tabs or slots on the top (white) handle. I popped the tabs on the bottom as shown in your video and the white top swiveled away and out. Staying attached to the front panel, it all come out in one piece.
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH for this video and explanation. Samsung customer service couldn't even tell me how to clean this drawer. In fact, the representative said it wasn't designed to be disassembled. Ridiculous!
Thanks! This was very helpful. The drawer is poorly designed. After we cleaned it and re-assembled it, we installed a strip of transparent packaging tape right on the seam, to prevent future from ever getting trapped in there again!
I really think this fridge is fantastic... apart from the difficulty of these pernickety cleaning jobs. Thanks so much for your helpful vid, Letha. I must admit I still found this procedure very difficult, and even with your good instructions I still cracked the bottom a bit. I hope Samsung fixes this silly design glitch soon and we can retro-fit these parts. Cheers!
SOLUTION (without breaking the plastic): run the white plastic under the hot tap (or use a hair dryer) until it gets hot. This will make it more pliable and less brittle. Use a metal bottle-opener keyring (with the hook-shape) to lever the inside lip of the white plastic up in small increments along the length. When you need to lever out the ends of the white plastic, use a flat, stiff butter knife to lift the white plastic instead of a screwdriver (see this video). The click sound referred to is the mild adhesive sealant that Samsung pasted in between the surfaces detaching. Levering the bottom holes with a screwdriver achieves this snap sound but you need the butter knife again to help the two clear plastic parts away from each other. Take your time and use minimum pressure. Hope this helps. Nowhere on the web has a good description.
there is no way in hell a butter knife will fit in that small square hole post a video on how you would go about sticking a butter knife in that small hole this i would love to see !!
A huge thank you for this video!! I almost bought new drawers. Its crazy!!! I don’t know how you figured it out!! I finally clean them after all the years of going nuts.
I got the front off without taking off the white strip. Thank you so much for posting this up. It's infuriated me for years. Mind you, I didn't try it until I located replacements ... just in case
If you're going to attempt this, I would let the drawer warm up first! Can't guarantee it won't break, but you'll stand a better chance...also, they're not all 100% the same! Mine look very similar but the tabs release differently
This video saved my life! Ok, we’ll maybe not, but the shredded cheese stuck in between the two plastic layers. I saw there’s actually like a hook on the white piece, and then better understood how it was put together!! Only had to do one side, however, and front came off! Thank you! On to the glass shelf above it now!! 😉
Thank you for posting this! Unfortunately, I just tried this and the top part (silver for my model) cracked in several places. We didn’t want to force the front off so I just resorted to using my kitchen faucet sprayer to spray out as much of the crumbs as I could. Now there’s some water trapped there but most of the crumbs and gunk are out so I’ll take it. What a shitty design! For a fridge that was nearly $2000 (on sale), I really expect a whole lot more.
THANK YOU so much! We just bought a new house and these manky fridge drawers were driving me crazy! Managed to snap one of the bottom tabs but I don't care - it's finally clean and the drawer still snapped back together fine 😁
Was really worried about forcing the front of the bin and so was my husband,, we have a slightly different model, so he took it outside and turned the hose on it as hard as it would go and ... success! Came in with it as clean as anything. That's a good alternative!
I have a warranty. They kept me on the phone for over an hour and finally the customer service person found this on the web. I still cracked it when I tried to get it off. They're sending me a new drawer, but said it was a one time thing. If I'm under warranty and it happens again, I guess I'll have to sue them for a new drawer. But I do want to thank the maker of this video. She did a great job explaining and showing what to do.
Good luck suing them over an inexpensive part, so it will be a small claims thing that isn't worth the trouble. Because even if you win, getting them to pay up is another issue.
@@Resist4 I actually cracked my drawers trying to do this today too. Samsung is refusing to send new drawers (I'm outside the 1 year warranty). Getting transferred around to supervisors, but the fact that this can't be cleaned without breaking it makes it a health hazard and ripe (pun intended) for a class action. Message me if others are interested.
@@GregAkselrod people have been doing class actions agains Samsung for years over their refrigerators. They just pay up and keep making them the same crappy way.
@@Resist4 that's fine, I don't have to buy another Samsung fridge. Just want to be made whole for the one I did buy. (also - class actions definitely do register on their radar and over time are addressed so they can reduce their liability - but like any other product feature, this bug fix has to be costed against the next most important thing on their roadmap. Likely this isn't a big enough issue to redesign existing models and re-tool all the manufacturing etc, but the next time they need to update its design, I bet this will get addressed)
@@GregAkselrod Well, look how far back Samsung has had class actions on their refrigerators, they go way back and nothings changed. I've had two Samsungs and both have had issues. I was able to get them to buy the latest one back, but that took a long drawn out effort on my part. I never want to go through that again. I know you want to believe the issues get addressed, but they really never do. Samsung doesn't want their refrigerators to last more than a few years and sadly I doubt any company does either.
Good video...mine broke as well...however when I switched to using a straight pointed pick I had much better luck and was able to get the pick in further.
Fantastic video, really helped! My fridge drawer was slightly different and had more clips. I found it much easier to remove parts after I heated it with a steamer which prevented the plastic cracking.
Thank you so much. I could see where to stick the screwdriver but was afraid, I'd break stuff. This confirms that I can do it. Thanks again for doing this.
Hi Letha W! so pleased to find your video! Thanks for doing this! Maybe it will save a few marriages (below) but at least I can properly clean my drawers! And, I suspect, I will have to be careful to make sure I see the tab I am "clicking". :)
THANK YOU . GOOD WORK. I was considering drilling holes as that is our cheese drawer, with spilled mozzarella cheese water growing in that thin space at the bottom front of the drawer. Bravo
You are a lifesaver. The way this vegetable drawer was designed is ridiculous and silly. Thank you for demonstrating how to take it apart... aaaand now I just want to Saran Wrap the bottom part of this so food doesn’t go in between on the inside and I never have to do this to clean it up ever again lol.
Thanks you SOOOOOOO much for this!! Words literally cannot express my gratitude. If it weren’t for this I would have probably killed my fridge with fire or something cause it was so nasty to look at. I still broke the drawer a bit as a small piece cracked off but at least it’s clean.
Thank you! I spent a long time trying to figure out how to take it apart to clean and couldn't until I saw your video. Samsung should've had a better design.
Great video, I also put my drawers in some warm water to try to make them less brittle. I don't know if it helped much but I got the mold out of the drawers without breaking anything
Thanks so much! I'm a pretty handy guy and I couldn't figure this out to save my life! It wouldn't be so bad if dirt couldn't get in there. What a terrible design!
Look at how many people have watched this video! And after just about to throw the drawer out for garage, I came here to RU-vid. The whole process of reading, finding screwdrivers, saying bad words, and talking to the thing helped... I fixed it tight according to instructions with a very small screwdriver that so it wouldn't go flying into my eye (put on glasses before starting). I put the screwdriver side of the top and rocked it until it came apart. I left the first screwdriver still in the right side and rocked the left side, with another tiny screwdriver, and voila! the second fell, and everything fell into parts. I've washed it all and they are drying on my sink. LETHA W is my new heroine! (PS, I never heard a click.) (PPS, I hate that ice maker too. Otherwise, it has served me well for many years.) (My fridge calls itself a Kenmore... that's a Sears branding; it's really Samsung.)
Thanks for that instruction I bought the frig from someone The sealed and mold set in the whole refrigerator The one thing I couldn’t get to was opening that drawer. I showed it to a few people and that was the one unsightly thing to see, mold trapped in that area! Very helpful vid
