I used this method when I upgraded from the Note. Things were a Lil gimmicky at first. Then I got a software update and now everything is working flawlessly. Thx Jimmy

I wish it transferred everything like Apple does, but that's part of their ecosystem being a bit more fine tuned. Still had to get set up things again, and Apple it's very seamless. I will give that win to Apple for sure, even though once it's all set up again I believe that Samsung/Android is better, FOR ME! No need for a phone war here, I even said Apple was better at something. They all do the same things, just take a different route at times. If Apple gave me half the customization as Samsung does, I'd probably be an Apple user.
@@jimmyispromo I did it your way and still had to re set up some settings, apps, and Good Lock. Apple every time I switched it took everything over. There was even some apps I had to re download. On someone else's post I had a ton of people like my comment so I know I wasn't the only one. Again I just wish Samsung would clean up the ecosystem. When I respond from my watch, the notification still shouldn't be on my lock screen on my phone 20 min later with the running chat of me on my watch. It's these little things where Apples ecosystem is better, that's not debatable. And I don't particularly care for Apple so that takes a lot for me to write.
I've never had an iPhone so I wouldn't know. The one huge thing I wish could be done during the data transfer for android is logging into all of the apps. It's such a pain in the butt to have to go into every single app and log in again. For me that is the part that takes the longest.
Yes you are correct, even though we're using smart switch, still have to log back into many items and resetup the phone. With my wife's iPhone, she upgraded and didn't have any additional setups to do, it was so easy.
It varies on the speed and type of router. I noticed that Wi-Fi 6 or 6e was not showing on your phones. I have a 6e router with gig speeds, and got everything transferred within 20 minutes (all content, approximately 96GB)
Yesterday I performed the switch and the was No electricity in the house and in the entire city. This process of Samsung Smart Switch worked flawlessly from my 10 year old Galaxy S7 to my new Galaxy S22 Ultra. The old phone transferred everything to new phone, dependent only on their internal batteries as the power source. There was No wifi "ROUTERS" involved whatsoever, Not to mention that we had No power in the city anyway. At the beginning of the transfer, the process LITERALLY told me on the screen to keep both phones as CLOSE as possible to each other, and I was like . . . "mmhhhh, since WHEN do WiFi devices need to be as CLOSE to each other as possible" 🤔😀😊 I swear it worked A to Z without ANY WiFi "routers" and I was transferring 28 gigs of data.
It has worked for me well for many years. I had to transfer a lot of data from old phone to my 1TB S23 ultra via microSD card and card reader. Windows file explorer can be a little glitch with android. Wonder if next time smartswitch will copy all this data quicker and better. 40-50 min. for 90 gb not bad.. For longer transfers, wireless has advantage of allowing you to charge phone while transferring.
Excellent video, thank you from the UK. Mobile (Cell) phones in UK are so much more expensive than in the USA! I cannot stretch to the phones you have done the video on but will be getting an A14 soon & wanted to make sure I knew how to transfer using Smart Switch, you gave me a few tips I had not thought of so thank you again.
Man I don't know what it is why I like your videos so much considering I'm born and raised on government phones I doubt they'll come the day that I ever upgrade to a flagship Samsung Galaxy
I have my photos and some other stuff on a SD memory card in my Samsung phone. Does the app copy those to the new phone with empty memory card or do I move the card to the new phone?
Hey jimmy , have you noticed worse battery on your s23 ultra after the febrauary security update ? My s23 ultra's battery became bad after it with the SOT decreasing by 1-2 hours , and I was wondering if that was the case for you as well.
@@hritikghatge Many versions of Android phones. Of course enhancing procession will diminish battery life. But there haven't been any specifics as to what's happening so far.
What happens at the "organizing your data" stage? is it here that the previous applications and their data are installed on the new device? Because after the transfer was completed, the applications were not there, still waiting 30 mins for "organizing your data"
Yeh, new or old phone- I'm trying to get it set up. Att had new and old # on the new phone and old wouldn't work, I just got back home and that sent. I'll be disconnected for awhile while it transfers
Honestly, if it doesn't transfer apps with login credentials, I prefer to setup my phone from scratch. There is absolutely no reason that we can't transfer everything on the same brand of phone. That will be the reason to move to apple, unfortunately.
I've been having issues that I can't get an answer about when talking to Samsung support. On my iPhone it says I have 23gb of messages but when I try transfer it over to my 512gb z fold 5 it fills the hard drive up to about 90% and then goes to the "organizing" part and it says it will take 40 hours and 23 minutes to complete but it never changes. I've tried multiple times to move this over with no luck.
I need help, moved all data of mine from Redmi note 9 pro to my newly purchased Galaxy A54 5G, over my redmi it was shown done but it got stucked on 9minuites for over 24hours now with Smartwitch. Please, how to solve this issue, I had already formatted redmi, and now 😢😢
just wondering. for star marked/favorites on samsung internet, will it save those over to the new phone as well? does it also back up data from games that might be on the phone too?
At around 9:53 your nav bar disappears. Is it able to be set to autohide when you're not touching the phone? I know in the settings you can hide the hints so it doesn't show, but you lose the ability to slide switch to previous app (enter Goodlock lol). I've read how some people suffered screen burn-in from the static presence of nav gesture bars (whether the 3 at the bottom or the single pill).
so i'm looking at 3 hours for around 300GB, give or take with the cable based on the amount of time it took for your data 🤔🤔 it's gonna be a pain to not have access to my phone during that time, especially when people try to call me 😏😏
Hi Jimmy, this might be a stupid question but I'm not good with the technology so need to ask. I currently have BYOP plan but need to change my phone so am hoping to get a phone and transfer all info by meself. I would assume both phones need to have wifi but can I use my home wifi with new phone before I put sim card? I'm trying to figure out how I can transfer from one which is active and new one that is still not actovated....thanks for your help!
I will never use Smart Switch after what happened with my Note 4 in 2015. It completely fked up my firmware and Samsung refused to fix it. After that fiasco, I've always set up my phone as a "new" phone, manually transferring via usb-c. It's MUCH safer and way less likely to introduce file corruption. Never again will I use Smart Shit after that debacle. And I know others who've found it buggy too.
@@jimmyispromo if only you knew the stress I went through back then when dealing with Samsung Repair Centre. It was deplorable, so much so that I left Samsung completely for 5 years! I then bought the Note 9. Yes 10 years is a long time but I'm very cautious with the use of Smart Switch. I would rather spend longer transferring everything over manually than face the risk of my phone getting bricked again. Once bitten twice shy.
@@Feemy I am using smart switch for years, I never faced a single issue. Also I am hearing this 1st time 😅, I suggest you to have another try its been years.
@@joel_subash he isn't wrong though. I did it one time and it corrupted my entire phone and SD card and I lost every picture I had of my dog that passed. Samsung said they were sorry but it can't be fixed and offered me a new SD card like that was going to change things. That's when I went to Apple, but I came back when they ditched the SD card, but smart switch is far from Apples transfer method, and that's a fact!
Nope. Because I'm doing it for the common good. So many people got their first Samsung phone and these videos help. Plus people won't look for help or info on my old videos, though they are so similar. People look for their "now" phone. Maybe it's an iPhone user finally moving to Samsung this year. Or a Samsung user who had their device for 3 or 4 years and looking for information this year. 😁
@Jimmy is Promo Totally agree with you and I am very appreciative of all the videos that you do, with Jimmy is promo and Samsung in a minute, as they are always extremely helpful.
I for one am sure glad he does, there are subtle changes from year to year, some additions, subtractions, feature differences.. saves me the trouble of having to try and figure it out, not to mention shows me all the cool little things I would have never found on my own.
