Thank goodness.... Someone that actually explains things so that I understand.Worked for 2 hours last night trying to do this and after watching the video had it done in less than 45 minutes from start to finish.Thank you
This was a life saver. Originally my "backed-up data" that automatically transferred, only moved less that half of my data. With this simple method in less that 15 minutes EVERYTHING was transferred from my S4-mini to my new S8. THANK YOU!!!
It workes perfectly! Thank you so much! My daughter was crying after her uncle took her phone that she stole from him... And she was begging me to buy her a new galaxy s7, so I did.. She was whining because she lost everything that was on her phone, all her privacy, all her photos of her baby cousin, aunt and me. So I was looking on RU-vid to look how to connect a phone to a different phone and this video was the perfect one! Thank you so much
Not to be nosey for that personal info. But since you did, I have a question, dad. Your daughter stole her uncle's phone, she personalizes is will all her files and things, then he takes it back, and then you got her her own phone? Hmm. Did I get this correctly? just sayin. But I had to ask. sorry. 🤷♂️
Did this by Wifi a week ago, usb c to micro usb, I think I had the cables and Adaptors, but tried wifi and it worked :) Never knew the software was so old.
Good video. Watching this now in 2022 I have a new Samsung A53 5G and it doesn't come with that adapter. Being new to all this your video alerted me to the fact that I needed to get an adapter so I could do the first steps as my old mobile has a Micros USB and the Samsung a USB 3. I could have done the transfer of everything wirelessly but the 'old school' in me just likes using cables. 😊
This is a great video for older adults such as myself who did NOT grow up in the computer/ tech age. It was easy to understand. I will try this when I get the new phone. Thank you
Tech With Brett During the transfer my s8 kept locking so I came out of smart switch to change settings and went back to smart switch and it has restarted, but on the s6 it says it's still transferring and for me not to take the cable out.. What do I do?
If I save the documents folder, as it also was shown in your example here, will it save all the useless updates and other files that already took up so much space and probably what causes my old S5 to go so slow? Or, should I just not include that folder. I've tried to delete many of these files in my old S5 to get some space back, but there are thousands of files with all sorts of unrecognizable file names. I wouldn't know what to delete. Anyway, some input would be helpful so I can transfer from my old S5 to my S8
Omggg you have no idea how much of a help you are. I work in a call center and costumers call in not knowing how to do it. It's annoying how they don't know because it's sooo simple
Can u use a wireless charging pad with the Samsung Galaxy s8? Also can u transfer all your games and keep the level u r up to or will I have to start from scratch?
My old phone is a galaxy S3 and my new phone a galaxy S7. I've looked at your you tube tutorial a few times to get familiar with the method. Just wondering if the photos in my message log will transfer along with my messages or if I must save them to my gallery individually prior to transferring to my new phone.
Thank you so much for this video.I struggled understanding the instructions in the manual and other videos I watched but your video helped me so much. It was straightforward and easy to follow. You explained every step so well. Thank you so much. I am now ready to use my Note 9. Thank you.
Hi Brett, Do I put new Sim Card or use my old one in new phone, or use new Sim Card in new phone and keep the old one in that phone. Both are Samsung Note 9 phones. I broke my screen FYI
Thank you so much, this really helped, I watched it a couple of times to really feel confident to attempt the transfer from my samsung galaxy s5 neo to my new s8. My old phone served me we'll 7 years and still going strong. Samsungs are the best in my opinion.x
Thank you for this video Brett. I recently upgraded cellphones from a LG G4 to a Samsung S8, I tried this method and some pictures and video successfully transfered but many did not. I repeated the process 5-6 times but still not all moved over. Any suggestions on how to get them all to move to my new phone? Or is there a manual way to move individual folders? I put in a 256 GB micro SD card into my new phone so there should be more than enough space.
Interesting. Maybe back them all up to Google Photos to make sure they are all saved. They most likely are not in the camera folder so you might want to make sure you add all folders to the back up.
@@TechWithBrett Thanks for the responce Brett, my old phone still has all the pictures on it, I checked. I'm not sure I trust uploading to a cloud and have anyone at google view them. I may go to the cell phone provider I bought the phone from and see if they know a fix.
Awesome explanation, I liked the way he taught step by step so anyone can do it on his own. Great work. You sound to be in educational field, great trainer.
I know this video was made few months ago. But this is the most detailed and informative video I've seen. I just have one question. Once you've activated the new phone it's still possible to switch data from the old phone ? I asked because the old phone is no longer in service right ?
+ReRe BaBe Thanks! Yes it is through WiFi. You can transfer the data back and fold between the two phones at any time. It just copies the information over.
Do you need to have a WiFi card in both phones?? Right now it is in my old phone. And can I just move my SD card from my S7 to my new S8 plus? Great video. Will do exactly as you showed. Thanks!
Really well done video. Sadly tried Samsung S6 Edge to Samsung Galaxy S9 with smart switch. Said successful but hasn't copied over any 'Samsung Calendar' entries. From the video it looked like most calendar entries might also be missing from Brett's transfer at 9.02, but it might be the screen colour that makes it hard to view. Lots of apps didn't make the cut. Wish there were documentation from Samsung about what definitely is in scope versus what gets left behind with their app.
Thanks that what I did from the recommendations of another vid on the subject. Just as a note following your instructions the transfer went without a problem. Congrats.
+Ian McIntyre In the past NFC allowed you to tap two phones together and connect together to make the transfer. It would turn on the wifi settings of each phone and make the connection. Now Smart Switch automatically does the when you open the app and click the Send of Receive buttons in the app. NFC also allows you to make payments with Samsung Pay or Android Pay where Smart Switch is the way you transfer data.
Would the new recepient phone like s8 retain its latest built in apps after successful transfer of data/contents from the old phone? Thanks in advance.
Great video. Is it possible to demo other android devices? I just ask because with other Android devices other than Samsung, you have to install a version of Smart Switch in order for the transfer to work with or without the cable...
very informative, I was nervous about it just automatically transferring everything without letting me pick. So glad to see it in fact does let you pick :)
Excellent video. Your video is the only one of several that I watched that led me right to the app and how to transfer everything painlessly. Thank you!
Great video, thanks! Brought me peace of mind while waiting for my insurance replacement in the mail. My s8 screen was shattered, and blank white from the halfway point down. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to navigate the app on the broken screen phone, but after watching this I realized that all the prompting is done on the receiving phone. I might add that when I finally received my new phone and ran the app with the wired setup, I still had to blindly accept a prompt on the old broken phone screen. However the receiving phone shows a graphic of where the prompt and accept button is in relation to the screen, and with the phones side by side it was hard to miss it.
Looks as if your video will help me swap all my data and photos etc from my Samsung A3 to my new S7 hopefully. Do I have to leave my in the old SIM card in the old phone? Do I need to put it in the new phone I'm unsure ???
Howdy a have a couple of questions, #1 does it remove anything from the send Phone? # 2 does the Receiving Phone need to be activated to do the Transfer or can it be done before its activated and if so is there any different steps because its not active? thx
+Im1CrazyCow #1 it does not remove anything from the old device. It copies all the information over. #2 You CAN do this even if the receiving is not active. I do suggest to put the phone on WiFi and update Smart Switch before you being the transfer but is not required. Once you activate the phone it should be all setup and ready to go.
The Galaxy s8+ would not allow unless active, but Verizon was 2 mins at best to activate. The rest i kinda walked into gently and all went good , thx for the reply and great Video!!!!
LIVEFRMNYC Yes you will need to login to each app to transfer your actual account over. It will transfer some data for apps bit double check in the settings of important apps to see if there is a way to back up the content for each app individually.
It does in some instances but it is hard to know exactly where. Make sure to do your own manual backup for apps when necessary so you don't lose any info.
in your video you transfer data from a galaxy s6 to a s8 but you didn't include a link for the adapter. All your links are for s8 or later and another for s5,6, and 7. Do I have to buy both since by I want to transfer from a s7 to s8?
Brett--great video! I found you in the nick of time! My Galaxy Note2 on Kitkat just started hiccupping so I have a new Note 8 on the way. I had no idea how to transfer info from one phone to the other. I just found out about Smartswitch so I hope I can do this right. Is there any advice I need to get started? I'm not at all techie, so I hope I do this right. Do I activate my new phone/SIM card before I start? What happens to my Note 2 SIM card? Is it still active when I do this? This is the part I'm not sure of as well. Thank you for your help.
Hi Brett, thanks for the video. this transfer process doesnt include apps chat history like watsapp and imo. can you advise me on this especially imo app as it doesnt have back up option. thanks bro!
thank you for your vid my new s8 is already pre loaded smart switch app. once I tapped this smart switch, how to connect instructions page opened but there is no icons or tab to go next step. it is totally different screen than this vid. could you advise me how to under this conditions
I have a question I was hoping could be answered by as soon as possible. I have a new s10t and am gonna do the switch. Thing is my old phone has a Sim card in it and they sent the new phone with a new SIM card in it. I know I can have the Sim card in the new s10t and activate it to make sure it is working ok and then do the switch, but I would have to take the Sim card out of the old phone correct? I can't have 2 SIM cards in at once when I only have one line and am upgrading to the s10t Any help?
So when you transfer social media apps to a new phone, will you already be logged into your social media on the new phone? Or will you need to log back into all of them?
Thanks for this help...question...I did the transfer but transferred all of my apps that I had on my home screen layout...but it also put them in the hidden tray area. I want to get rid of the apps as they were on the old home screen and use the hidden tray and go back to the original home screen with the time. How do I do this?
+Cheryl Wilkes My buddyjimmy has a video to show you how. Let me know if you have any more questions or if you can't find the settings. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O0FohSi4moc.html
During the transfer my s8 kept locking so I came out of smart switch to change settings and went back to smart switch and it has restarted, but on the s6 it says it's still transferring and for me not to take the cable out.. What do I do?
So would I insert the new SIM card prior to transfer of data that came in the box? Or use my existing (working) SIM card from my old phone? They are both Samsung S8plus, just had a replacement sent to me due to screen damage.
+Daddy __ Yes it copies everything that is selected to the new device. It will transfer everything but the Accounts. You will need to sign back in to all of your accounts on the new phone as it can't transfer. If you use the Stock Samsung email app it can transfer the emails you have linked there.
Hi. What if my old phone whose data I need to transfer has the screen shattered and there's no way to unblock it or use it? Can I still use this method? Thanks
hey thanks for the vid. but i have a question i have an iphone 6 im getting the Samsung galaxy s8+ so if i transfer everything from my iphone to s8. will i still have everything in my iphone ?? and if i have some apps that have data on like whatsapp will it carry everything to my new s8 ?
+Hemyar Alnami Everything will stay on the iPhone. It copies everything over. You would need to have the individual apps sync your data to an account. I am not sure on if Whatsapp has a sync function.
thanks for the video its very helpful but before i begin the transfer i was wondering if this will also transfer whatsapp chat history. If not, how can i transfer the chats along with the app from my s6 edge to my s8 plus. thanks in advance!
+Rama Sh This app will not bit you can do that inside of WhatsApp. Just go into the app settings on the S6 and create a backup to you Google Drive. Then go to the app on the S8+ and restore your chat history from Drive.
+Gordon lang You can do it before or after, just don't do it during as that will reset the phone and stop the transfer. I would suggest move it before if you have the choice.
Hi I have iPhone 5 wanting to transfer what I have and like to, to my new Samsung galaxy S9+ what should we do for the progress of the transferring, and is it possible to do so,please let's us know,
+Terrance Bates If you purchase in a store they will usually transfer the SIM for you. If not you may need to do it on your own or call your carrier and have them activate it. For the Micro SD card you will have an option in Smart Switch to put all the data on the new phone, or you can just move it to the new phone.
Tech With Brett So technically the new phone can read the sd card from the old phone with no problem? And the sd card from the old phone can be taken out and put into the new phone without hassle?
Hi Brett, after multiple intents using USB transfer, always was stuck at 99%, finally I try to use a Smart Switch Transfer With wireless transfer and at last, it worked.
Will this work with transferring from s7 to s7? Also did your text messages transfer over ok? Will this transfer my bookmarks from my Web browser as well? Thank you sir
If I'm moving my old sim from s7 edge to note 8 can I still do this? Or does there need to be a sim in both phones? Sorry I'm not good with tech! Thank you
+Lauren Groombridge You can do that all depending on what carrier you have. But it should work taking the SIM out of the old phone and putting it in the new one.
+kevin coones Tons of things. With the S8 your phone is Water Resistant, you have 64GB of storage in the phone, and you get a 5.8" screen with a phone that is not much bigger. I could go on but that is a start.
I’m sorry if this is been in the comment section already, but what about items on an SD card, such as apps, photos, and data connected to apps on the phone
+This Is Ade Brown If you place this on the new phone it should all be there or at the bottom of the Smart Switch settings before you click transfer you will see an option to copy everything from the SD card to the new phone. I believe you will have to redownload the apps that were on it either way.
sir tell me if i transfer data from my old phone to new phone and if i have some data in new phone also then what will happen to data already present in new phone. Will it bw erased or overwritten or added?
+Bonecrusher27WTF It should do both. Some apps data you might want to double check before wiping your old phone. All the apps transferred, they just didn't appear on the home screen. If they don't transfer it is because that app is tied to the carrier device.
