Samsung Tab S8 Ultra - Why THIS IS your next computer! 

Dude. I've been looking at reviews for the S8 Ultra for a couple of days to understand if it's really worth trading my work laptop for it, and I can't believe you don't have more subscribers. Really good review, you talked about some actual day to day stuff that most other channels didn't. Also great video quality! Cheers from Brazil!

I’m an iPad user, but if there’s a company that can compete and put pressure on Apple, it’s gonna be Samsung. They totally nailed it in a lot of aspects.

I spent years buying and replacing computers and laptops with the best setups to find it was completely unnecessary. I use three devices for work/productivity. A spec'd out desktop for heavy lifting, an e-ink writer tablet to take handwritten notes, and now the Tab 8 Ultra as a portable laptop for meetings, events, and light work in between. Loving it. Thank you for your videos.

One thing that makes me hesitate when considering a tablet like the S8 (or even the iPad) as a desktop replacement is longevity. I have a desktop PC and I spend a lot of time on it each day. And at least twice a week, I edit and render videos that are about two hours long. Since tablets lack a fan or the more advanced cooling technologies desktops and laptops do, they probably can't withstand heavy-duty use over the long haul.

I actually like the keyboard-cover for the S8 Ultra. If you intend to carry the tablet around and use it otsude the stationary stand, or have other things to keep in mind, like pet cats, for example - I feel like being able to cover the screen with a hard surface is very important. What the keyboard cover offers on top of this is the ability to have a mouse-keayboard everywhere, even if you don't have the main wireless KB+M setup with you. It is at the very least a safety net in terms of functionality, even if you don't use the built-in keyboard as the main input device. Great video. I been using my S7+ with DEX for the past 3 years as a laptop replacement. It handles 90% of what I need. S9 Ultra is looking like a nice upgrade.

I agree. I have a 12.9-inch M1 iPad Pro and I love its display and performance, but you can never realise its full potential due to the limitations of iPad OS. I want to run emulators and virtual machines on my iPad, but Apple's compartmentalized view of the computing world frustrates every step you take. Universal control isn't about improving workflow, but rather encouraging you to buy both an iPad and a MacBook so you can realise the workflow and use cases that you can already achieve on a single device running Windows, Linux, etc.

I have the same feeling about this device. iPad Pro 12.9 is a really great tablet and fits very well into the Apple ecosystem (I own MB and iPhone, AirPods, Apple TV, and Homepods minis) but I always felt like it was a waste of money for me since I'm not in a creative industry. I'm sure illustrators, photographers, videographers and such take all the money spent on the iPad Pro 12.9 back from how much work they actually do on that device, but for me - I always felt like I spent so much money, and all I use it for is to watch videos and sometimes as a 2nd screen and note-taking, basically same stuff as I might do on iPad 9 for 4 times less cost. I got this S8 Ultra with the intention to try and honestly with prejudice that it will be a much worse experience compared to iPad Pro 12.9 considering how am I used to apple products. But surprisingly, even though it is definitely not as polished as iPadOS, and there are annoying things here and there, overall it is much more useful for my use cases than iPad Pro was. I utilize it much more and even though I spent practically the same money as on iPad Pro I have no that weird guilt anymore.

I love mine. The keyboard case is awesome and awful at the same time though. It's backlit with awesome key action, but it's so large and thin that it gets awkward to use it anywhere but on a large flat surface, like a table. It does work great to pop the keyboard off and play Xbox games on it. The screen is freaking beautiful on it.

Excellent review, well presented about the S8. FYI: It is beyond me why RU-vid content creators think it cool or necessary playing music over their voice. Quickly the background music becomes very annoying. Understand, many folks have some form of hearing difficulties, the music makes it more difficult for them to hear and understand the presenter. Okay, they can turn up the sound, doing that also increases the music as well. Many folks I know, when they hear background music, they stop the video and move on.

I came from the Tab S7, and it was capable enough to replace most of the stuff I do with my laptop. For the past year that I've been using it, I only use my laptop if I wanted a big screen. I might switch to the Tab S8 Ultra soon.

For average users like myself, who comprise 90% of all users, a tablet is enough. Essentials for average users are social media apps, RU-vid, email, MS Office, internet, netflix, and spotify. All of which are available on a tablet. That said, a tablet can already replace a laptop for most users. I have totally ditched PC’s and laptops for years now. Only been using my iPad. I switched from an iPhone to the S22 Ultra. I am considering the S8 Ultra to replace my iPad.

you can use cloud computers to get a full windows Computer and connect to it with a tablet. Giving you the best of both worlds.

I'm still in the tab S4. Very good tablet, it helps me a lot, but I'm eager to upgrade. I love Samsung devices, but the Tab S8 Ultra and S7 Plus prices are so obscene for Brazil standards that they don't even bothered to bring here. That's a shame.

Thats a pretty nice setup, I am currently using a Galaxy Tab S7 FE and I use an aluminum Magnetic stand made by Lululook, plus a wireless backlit keyboard that came with a 3rd party case. If you get a chance try launching DeX using your keyboard (Fn + Start + W) and see if it works for you. Keep up the good work on the reviews.

For the same price as that tablet, I'd get myself an S22 or S22+ and a NexDock 360 lapdock. If I really want a tablet with that size, Android won't be my choice. I'll definitely go Windows with Microsoft Surface Pro 8.

Great video! It's absolutely unbelievable how underrated DeX is! Like it's very disappointing how this feature is not able to kill the iPad! Nobody knows anything about DeX!! When i show iPhone and iPad users DeX, they absolutely drop their jaws!!!

There is one critical problem here tho - The Snapdragon 8 gen 1, which on top of itself being a crappy chip, is actually throttling like crazy in this thin chassis. The Gen 2 will be a massive improvement in efficiency and will actually make a case for legit laptop replacement.

I love it, what I love most is learning to use other options than Microsoft and find those options work better for free, such as Google Sheets and Docs and will update to my other devices.

One comment one your video is that your bg music is a little loud and it kinda shift the attention to the music and not your narration, but other than that the vid is really really high quality man!

coming from s6 which I gave to my friend who found it so much more useful than the laptop he's stuck with and currently using the s7, I've been wringing out all the feature I can squeeze out in this one, and it's still going for 2 years now, I've never thought I'd be using this more than my laptop. I don't even use my laptop anymore. I stream my games now. And after hearing a rumor that the next samsung tab will have a foldable option, skipping the s8 and waiting for that one to come.

Fantastic video my friend! Really really high production quality!! I had an S7+ that I loved BUT there was no autocorrect when typing using the keyboard.. frankly, that made it unusable for my professional workflow. Can you confirm if there is a functional auto correct when using a keyboard (possibly a Bluetooth keyboard) - if so it would be a viable option to replace my laptop! If not, I’ll keep my Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 for how.. great video buddy!!

I love Samsung tab.. but when come to android apps on the market.. im headache.. Android has no polished apps for architecture / designer like on ipad.

I LOVE my S8 Ultra.

I have it since day one and honestly it's my working computer since that moment and I love it. It can do everything basically. And for the software that really need a windows machine I have the RDP android apk to control the computer of the office from anywhere in the world. I honestly love it. The only thing I'll say is that the keyboard cover is very practicall but clearly not value that crazy price. For people who love this and want to try I'll simply consider to wait the next generation and preorder it. Samsung always give them when they start the preorder. plus bunch of other things with.

👍 Alex, fantastic overview and well structured. I find it impressive on most fronts and I agree the S pen is on par with the MSF Surface pen, the iPad pencil is garbage. I just wished Samsung made a decent keyboard there are no excuses for such a crappy built expensive keyboard. Like you I use a similar set up for both the TS7+ & TS8u. I do not play games as such not really my thing I play things like Room etc or adventure puzzle type games occasionally. I prefer not being in the crappie 🍏 eco sys because I prefer not being contacted every 5 mins and its easier to reply on my terms via a text or telegram etc not have that constant pinging on the screen. Anyhow loved this, please do more non Crapple reviews because people can get more of a non biased view other than crappels marketing nonsense. Keep it real my friend and have a super weekend 🙂

The biggest problem is that after a few years, Samsung will stop supporting it with any kind of updates, making it a massive security risk. At least with a laptop, you know it will be good for several more years than that ever will be.

One of the things I didn't expect the S8 Tab to not have, was the ability to change display resolutions OR maybe I just don't know how to get it to work. it's not the biggest deal but I usually plug my tablet to my TV and the 16:10 ratio makes the black bars very apparent as it's on the vertical sides rather than horizontal (there's probably a fix I don't know about yet). Other than that, it also feels better for Samsung Dex than my phone does. Not that there are much difference but suddenly all the apps I've used for my phone as tablet size, makes sense to me on a tablet. the tablet is so good that I sometimes don't bother to go on Dex to do stuff and I too, use MX keys and MX mouse for work and personal use. One cool thing for me now is that I don't need to get my phone for MFA authentication as I have it on my tablet to check (if i'm using it for work). I also ran Linux (Andronix). By far, not perfect but it allows you to have a full on desktop and I ran it from Remote Desktop Manager and/or a VNC viewer app. for my more demanding desktop needs, I remote to my server via splashtop on AWS. key tip if you do , audio drivers are stored in the splashtop folder on the PC for virtual audio bypass. Additional tip, there is a package for splashtop that allows you to run your controller via remote. essentially making it your own personal stadia and/or xbox pass. I don't have neither in my country at the moment. I use Kiwi browser for work stuff and Opera for personal (it does its job but I like Kiwi more for the versatility of extensions!). I use Samsung internet when I want to test out if the site works well with it. I also use tablet messenger for Whatsapp Web . there is a paid version but I don't get ads so I can't tell you if those ads are intrusive or not. [Connections > More connections settings > add "dns.adguard.com" to your private DNS settings] and wahlaa, no ads but you might need to disable it for some apps as they won't run without the ads. I still use RU-vid vanced because it works better than youtube app in some cases. I do not enable sponsor block and I also do not turn off all ads for RU-vid creators I support. I use Infinity Painter for my art stuff and Krita for the additional art stuff. for photoshop, i use photopea(dot)com for my Photoshop CS2 needs haha. You will know what i mean when you check it out. for video editing, i use power director and I'm so waiting for luma fusion to enter the fray. I wish davinci resolve was on Android. I would pay for that subscription but they got to keep their tools in there somehow. I think M1 is the bomb but only on MBAs and MBPs, NOT the iPad as the iPad feels so far behind what the potentiality of that processor can do. At the end of the day, what makes the hardware, is the software and even though, Android isn't always going to have apps run out of the box a 100% (examples such as running apps vertically rather than horizontally by default) that small extra step to make it work, saves you the time to give money to a company that designed their products with anti-consumer in mind and maximize profits by throwing ethics out the window. No, I'm not talking about Huawei. wink.

The problem with Samsung has and always will be there update schedule. What is the point of getting it if Samsung hamstrings it with draconian update policies.

Great video! Is it my imagination or did you show Dex running on an ultrawide monitor? I tried previously on the Tab S7+ and everything was stretched because the resolution wasn't natively supported. Has that changed with a recent update?

If it were not for the privacy issues with android (Samsung's version especially) and the bloatware they load all their devices with, I would totally go for it. The hardware looks fantastic.

I actually think this device is too compromised. Why didm't Samsung go all out and make it much more practical with a few simple additions? - 3.5 mm jack - another usb c port - let notification light - wireless charging - anti reflective coating - a bit thicker chassis that would fit some cooling tech. It is ridiculous that this Snapdragon Gen 1 throttles much more than it does in some phones, despite being put in a huge tablet.

I'm an Android user, I started with it and still using Android, that's why I'm not switching to another OS anytime soon. I owned a SS Note 10.1 tablet, and all of my gadgets are SS, I'm not a fan boy or a brand slave by any stretch of measure. However, if I'm going to pay big money for a device (hardy anything SS under $1,000 these days), I'm pretty sure I want the support cycle longer than 2 or 3 years. I'm still using my Toshiba Satellite laptop from 2012.

Does this run windows? If not then it will never be able to replace my computer.

I guess an updated version with a overclocked Snapdragon8 gen 2 will be a future proof jump for Samsung. Waiting for that updated version to jump on it.

awesome video man! for the past few years I've been leaving my "real" laptop at home when going to the office. I'm a software dev and 90% of my work is done in a remote terminal and the tab has been phenomenal. I had the s7+ and now the s8u. I got it for the screen size and I recently started using it to build react native apps (and yes it works amazingly!!). I use Acode (a light weight IDE) and kiwi browser (it has a built in developer mode just like desktop chrome on MacOS).

Hopefully they will have it in the 5g version soon

It is so expensive it makes ROG Flow Z13 look cheap (a tablet killer?) I think going for something like Lenovo tablet might be a better deal, if only they make global version though.

I'm a Apply Fan, yet I did purchase the Samsung Ultra S8 and Love it. Most people don't know that Apple and Google work very well together which is why I purchased it. I have an iphone 11 pro max, Ipad and use a lot of the android apps which is why Apple Fans have the best of both worlds vs just having android phone. Therefore, Samsung Ultra S8 is worth the money.

Nah this won't replace a laptop or even a surface pro for me since it doesn't run on windows OS. There are still a lot of windows apps that are not yet available in android.

Atualmente eu uso um tab S7 e um Macbook Pro, o macbook ainda sinto a necessidade dele para fazer apresentações, editar vídeos e usar planilhas de Excel, mas o tab s7 ajuda bem a ser móvel em viagens curtas e trabalhando externo, estava pensando em pegar um S8 ultra para ser um único device, o que não gostei do tab s7 foi que mesmo plugando um monitor com mouse e teclado, o mouse não dá sensação de precisão e o trackpad dele é ruim. Você acha que o S8 ultra tem potencial de substituir meu setup atual? Abs e obrigado!

The S8 plus and the Ultra should have 2 USB-c's... Same goes with the M1 Ipad Pro 12.9 inch model...

Samsung dex really is wonderful

It is hard to think regarding this. I still need to process complex sheets and access systems in a cloud that in tablet mode do not work well :/ but I’d love to use a tablet to do everything. Thanks my fellow countryman. Cheers from BR🇧🇷

Awesome review. I’m currently using the m1 ipad pro 1tb/16gb ram. It’s a great device but I am frequently infuriated by the closed nature of iPadOS. I’m currently testing iPadOS 16 and whilst stage manager is an improvement it’s far from a desktop class experience. I resort to RDP and Jump desktop from the iPad for various Windows and Linux functions. It would be great to see some native virtualisation options on these beefy tablets. I’m sure it would prove extremely popular….a man can dream :0)

Unpopular opinion:- the day the full version of adobe apps comes out is the day tablets replace laptops

Transferring data, pix, file's to the Tab S8 Ultra 512gig from a 750 gig Microsoft windows laptop, would it be best just to transfer to a 1TB SD card in the Tab rather than try and guess, pick and choose what will fit to the internal storage?? Also, will all windows folders transfer on to a SD Card??✌️
