If you have a Samsung Top Loading Washer that keeps going out of balance on the spin cycle this video will show you how to repair it. The parts are about $50.00 and it could save you hundreds over calling a repairman. I did the repair in about 30 minutes. It involves replacing the "suspension rods" that support the tub in Samsung top-loading washers. Some people call these "shocks" but suspension rods are the proper name. You will also need a tube of White Lithium Grease. I bought mine from Home Depot for about $8.00. The rods were $40.00. Before the repair, my washer was completely unusable. After the repair, my washer worked perfectly. You will need only a few basic hand tools. These include a thin, stiff, putty knife, a pair of pliers, and a screwdriver. Please wear old clothes and gloves as the old grease is pretty ugly stuff. If you are fairly handy this is an easy repair. Thanks for watching. This is my first video but many more will follow on a variety of subjects. If you subscribe and like the video it will be easier to find the new videos. Thanks, Dan
Below is a link to the suspension rods I ordered from Amazon

You know, it's the testamonial at the end that really makes this vid worth watching. I've been avoiding house calls like mad because i KNOW I'm probably going to get the shaft--get it--and would probably be better off researching. learning and doing myself--of course, IF at all possible. I have had great success in the past, and because of vids like these, I know I will have more successes than failures in the future. Thanks Dan!!

I was out in the garage cursing at our washer as I tried again, in vain, to balance the load of clothes. I was ready to call some repair folks (I am pretty handy, but was just not in the mood to fix anything) when my awesome wife came out and said "Hey look at this video I found! It sounds like the same issue we're having and it's fixable!" Now the washer is opened up, the springs are out and I am waiting for Amazon to deliver the new ones. Thanks so much!

Thanks so much for this video! I know it takes time and I really appreciate that! Because of you, I was able to fix my washer, by myself, and save a ton of money. My dad taught me how to be handy and my knowledge of tools. He passed away 12/13/2023 (He could work on and fix anything) so, unfortunately, I no longer have his guidance. Your video helped walk me through it. My washer is back to working like the first day I bought it! Thank you so much! Means the world to me 🙏❤️ *also... I believe the ones that say they did this repair and it worked for a while then stopped working again may be overloading their washer by trying to wash too big or too heavy of a load. But, I do recognize that they don't make things like they used to! It's been 4 mos since I repaired mine and it's still working fine.

Thank you so much for this video and your honesty. I was going to buy a new washer as we've had this one for about 9yrs and thought maybe it time for a new one. This is seems like a fairly simple fix and I am now going to attempt to do it myself instead of buying a new washer or calling a service tech out to the house. Thank you again, you are one of the good guys out there that I have absolute respect for. Take care and God Bless!

I don't recommend using white lithium grease, I would get "dampening gel/grease" instead. It actually slows the movement of the rods and springs (its sticky), rather than lubricate them for ease of movement.

Just an FYI. I purchased a Samsung washer at Lowes 3 years back and after about a year, it started this ballance issue. I saw this type of fix on RU-vid but opted to call a service tech. He suggested I "save my money for a new washer." I spent the money and ordered the tencion rods. It worked for about a month. I drug the thing out to the road.

I am not sure. I replaced mine over a year ago and it still works perfectly. There is a nut at the bottom center of the tub (on the inside) under a cover. That nut can become loose and even break. It is accessed by removing the cover and it is reverse threaded so you turn it counter-clockwise to tighten it. I have not done the repair myself and do not know anything else.

@danfixeseverything
@danfixeseverything 5 месяцев назад
@@lenacheney That probably means the washer at the bottom center of the tub has come loose or broken. Inside the washer at the bottom, there is a cover over a bolt that holds the tub to the mechanism below it. If you remove the cover there is a large nut that secures the tub. The action of the tub swinging so far out of balance due to the bad rods may have loosened or broken the nut. I believe it is reversed threaded so you would go counterclockwise to tighten it. Please let me know your results. I hope that works. I saw it on another channel's video.

Next time remember that the weight/load compresses the spring so greasing up the rod is a messy waste of time and grease. Don't feel bad, most people follow that same pursuit, greasing the wrong direction.🤔😊😂 One last thing, remove the lid tape before locking the top down.

There is a large nut under the center of the agitator at the bottom of the tub. When the old suspension rods allow the tub to go out of balance and shake severely the nut can loosen or even break. You must remove the cover at the center of the agitator, then remove the screw holding the agitator on and remove the agitator. Then you will see the large nut. Use a wrench to tighten it. It is a left-hand thread so you must tighten it counterclockwise. If it is broken, replace it. Here are links to two videos I found that show how to fix it. I hope this helps you. I cant get the top to come off. Unscrewed screws in the back. But mine doesnt have those black clips on the front. Is this cause its a newer model? Ideas how else to remove the lid?
@danfixeseverything
@danfixeseverything 10 месяцев назад
The clips are not visible. They are about six inches in from the sides on both sides. If you use a thin stiff putty knife you should be able to feel them. This was the hardest part of the job. To release them you have to push in on them while prying up on the top. You may find other videos that show the process better than my video. This was the first video I had ever done. I was happy because it saved me about $300.00. If you pry a little you may be able to see the clips with a flashlight. They are fairly stiff. I am not aware of any other method of holding the top on. I am handy but not a full time appliance repairman so I am not familiar with every brand. Best of luck to you.

I don't know all the machines. Mine had clips about 6 inches in from either side on the front where the top sits. I used a stiff putty knife to push in on the clips while using another to lift the lid. This was after removing the screws on the back that hold the top on there. Some people have said they had screws at the front that had to be removed but I have not seen any like that. You might search for "how to remove top on Samsung washer". I found this video and it shows the removal at minute 1:12. www.google.com/search?q=Remove+top+from+Samsung+top+load+washer+wa484dshawr%2Fa1&sca_esv=8212b838d9203bd8&sxsrf=ACQVn0-mbxHLkhwVF9s66GkaQ-iiQgLQiw%3A1706640298956&source=hp&ei=qkO5ZZ-WOOfAkPIPxIuSyAk&iflsig=ANes7DEAAAAAZblRukvJqvMv7ppP38NkRu4eohtKMUu8&ved=0ahUKEwifk5vG4oWEAxVnIEQIHcSFBJkQ4dUDCB4&oq=Remove+top+from+Samsung+top+load+washer+wa484dshawr%2Fa1&gs_lp=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&sclient=gws-wiz#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:6b24b383,vid:LifEij0SMMU,st:0

Timing is everything… Just recently I paid a service company $300 to do this exact repair. They did a good job and fixed my washer. But the reality is this - if you are handy around the house - and you are or you wouldn’t be watching “how to repair” videos - Dan shows you exactly how to do this repair for just the cost of the parts. Had I watched this video before I called the service company, I would have saved a LOT of money.

Just for full disclosure, Kevin (the wizard) is a friend. When I shared my video with him he told me about just paying $300 for this repair. So the comment is from a friend, but the story is true. Sorry about the bad timing Kevin.

I like to watch random fix it videos and so far many have come in handy! I was being charged an insane amount to replace the belt on my drier.. I ended up doing the work myself and spent under $50.. it’s an old hand-me-down drier so I wasn’t too scared.. but my washer is the first pricey appliance I’ve bought.. but the insurance just went out so im going to try and do it myself.. wish me luck lol

Just got done replacing my rods and ran a self clean, quiet as a whistle as it was knocking loudly prior. I didn't need a putty knife to pinch those two clips, i have a plastic prier and pried the top off as those two clips in front just snap on to cover. I forgot to unscrew the metal panel piece oh well, junky samsung washer, same as yours, ours is rusty in the bleach dispenser. Any idea how i replace the top piece? I was looking for a part but can't find anything on how to remove the existing one and replacing it. I don't want to replace the whole top with glass lid. Anywhoo, no more knocking and i think the washer had issues filling properly so will test a load of clothes after self clean. I had replaced the whole water inlet a few years ago. The back corner ones were a little tough as my washer is in a small closet so hard to get around haha.

update, same crap happening, in spin mode about 4 mins it adds 18 mins and does rinse again so the rods i had bought were junk, lasted a few months, also this time i took the inside plate off in drum to get to the Spinner nut, that was completly broken, replaced that, still same. One point it sounded like a machine gun. Will probably look for better quality rods and give it another shot . My model is a WA48H7400AW/A2 same as in video i believe. also the cover for the bleach area is no longer available and its rusting the metal a part.

Yes, inside the washer at the bottom there is a cover over a bolt that holds the tub to the mechanism below it If you remove the cover there is a large nut that secures the tub. The action of the tub swinging so far out of balance due to the bad rods may have loosened or broken the nut. I believe it is reversed threaded so you would go counter clockwise to tighten it. Please let me know your results. I hope that works. I saw it on another channel's video.

I changed the suspension rods and it did not help my problem. Washer is level. I have washed small loads with just socks and shirts, I have washed sheets, blankets, every weight and water level, and I also checked the nut at the bottom of the tub. It's still off balance and codes with every wash. My daughter washed 2 quilts that were so so heavy once wet and I'm sure that's when my problems started. Any suggestions?

In Google or RU-vid search for "samsung top load washer keeps filling with water." It may be low water pressure. If you turned your water off, make sure you turn it back on fully and that the hose is not kinked. There are sensors that go bad also that are addressed by other RU-vid videos. Good luck.

Could it just be out of balance somehow?
@danfixeseverything
@danfixeseverything 8 месяцев назад
There are two things I know of that cause it to be out of balance with even a small load of evenly distributed clothing. The most common is the suspension rods that I show how to repair in this video. The other is a broken or loose nut at the bottom of the tub. It is accessed from the top. It often happens as a result of weak suspension rods causing violent out-of-balance problems. If replacing the rods does not solve the problem then the cover at the bottom center of the tub needs to be removed and the nut needs to be tightened or replaced. I have not done this repair, as replacing the rods solved my problem. I believe the nut is a left hand thread, so turn it the opposite direction to tighten (counter-clockwise).

Did that happen to you? I replaced mine and it has worked perfectly so far. It has been about two months. When I had the problem I watched several RU-vid videos and they all agreed that the suspension rods were the solution. Washing machines are complex devices and of course, there is the possibility that there is a different problem. This problem and solution are very common. I hope it works out for you too. Dan

@@user-qg2ve1ig7v There is a large nut under the center of the agitator at the bottom of the tub.
