Thank you very much! Been a while since I needed to play with the OSD and completely forgot about the wee toggle thingy at the back. You are a champion!

You might have spectral sensitivity to the backlight. Try setting 'Gamma' to 'Mode3' as well (this would replace the 'MagicAngle' setting I think), but there's ultimately not a lot you can do other than trying a different monitor if you find the backlight 'harsh'.
Is there a remote you can buy for the display menu? A downloadable app for Windows perhaps? Kinda annoying reaching at the back of the monitor every time I want to adjust the brightness
Don't really need anything, just wanted to say that it's cool of you to still answer all those questions people have, even the most basic and repetitive ones.
I think it's pretty cool you're replying to comments in 2022 for an 8 year old monitor. Btw, I have this monitor and was looking to upgrade in the near future or whenever I can catch a good deal. Until then I'm going to try and make the most of it. Do you have any recommendations on how to get a generally good color accuracy without a colorimeter? I'm using it with my Macbook mostly for reading things and studying as extra realestate ao it'd be nice to have some good color. Right now it's abysmal.
Observing familiar images and websites like Lagom (to observe grey neutrality or help detect tints or gamma issues) - www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ whilst making careful tweaks to colour channels and the gamma setting is really all you can do. If your unit doesn't have a very good gamma calibration you can't correct that properly without profiling (creating an ICC profile). Regardless of how much calibration you do, you'll never overcome the inherent limitations of the panel technology and the weak colour consistency. Perceived gamma changes at different points of the screen, affecting the perceived saturation and shade depth.
@@PCMonitors Yeah its very frustrating trying to calibrate this thing without ICC profiling, which tends to make things worse when I do it manually anyways. Do you have any recommendations or videos on budget 1440p/4k monitors that have good contrast I can use a as a "stopgap" until my next good monitor purchase?
My recommendations are clearly laid out on the website - pcmonitors.info/recommendations/. :) Depending on size preferences the Philips 328E1CA might be one to look at. It offers fairly vibrant colour output and strong contrast. For 27" models I'd really focus on IPS models - the ones we recommend generally have relatively strong contrast for the panel type and strong colour output.
Does having it from " standard, faster, and fastest " Affect the response time?? I do NOT use game mode by the way. Prefer to use my own settings.. Just wanted to know if having it on standard slows down the response times? I'm video gamer btw.
I have been playing games on my new monitor, and it seems to be getting severely less FPS than my old one. Is there maybe something I’m doing wrong in the settings?
You can run at a lower resolution (not ideal - interpolation, refer to review -pcmonitors.info/reviews/samsung-u28d590d/#Interpolation ) or lower graphics settings. Or buy a new GPU or upgrade your system so it's more competent at running the native resolution of the monitor. Those are your only options really, this is a system issue not a monitor issue.
@@PCMonitors ahhh okay I got s similar samsung screen I'm guessing mine always needs speakers because I got the audio jack on the back, headset works for now on movies lol
This does not support hdr.. i wish i knew that before purchasing. BUT overall a good monitor for next/current gen consoles. Has 4k support, 2.0 hdmi, perfect size for gaming (32inch), and supports game mode and has other several key features.
@PC Monitors : Best MENU setting IN THIS MONITOR for video editors (color grading & color correction purpose in software like Premier Pro & Da Vinci ) ?
If you value colour accuracy, you should consider a model with superior colour consistency (e.g. IPS) and also investing in a colorimeter to take out the guesswork when it comes to tweaking. Individual units vary, so you can't just copy somebody else's settings and expect them to be optimal. As for this model and what worked well on our unit, refer to the calibration section of the written review and our 'Test Settings' there - pcmonitors.info/reviews/samsung-u28d590d/#Calibration.
The one question I do have is what setting would you recommend for PS5 I find myself having to switch the settings every time I change to a different game I normally have it at angle stand with the contrast and brightness 100 and sharpness at 60 everything else is turned off
You just need to adjust according to your own preferences as you are doing, there aren't any magic settings that will work for everyone unfortunately. If you raise contrast that high you're probably crushing highlight detail, so perhaps try to get used to the image without that sort of adjustment.
I got samsung monitor too, but it doest have volume, i tried doing what you did but it just keeps coming up with the 'HDMI' thingy🤷🏽♂️, any help please???
This Samsung model or another? The OSD layout is different on different models. Volume may be found in the menu somewhere rather than with shortcut keys.
when my samsung 4k monitor (LU28E590DS) is turned off the little light at the bottom right keeps flicking on and off every second, do you know why this is?
hi i don't know if I get an answer but for me the problem is that every menu setting except brightness, contrast tone and hdmi cec is grayed out can anyone help me ?
On my monitor, when I try to connect my wii using a converter, it says “not optimum mode, Reccomended mode 1920x1080 60hz” how do I change this if I can?
I'm not sure why it's saying that, perhaps because it knows HDMI is limited to 1920 x 1080 @60Hz or 3840 x 2160 @30Hz on that model. And 30Hz is not considered "optimal". What does it list as current resolution? Absolutely ages since I used this monitor so I can't really give any further guidance.
The JOG not work. There are only brightess volume, but not the menu. I click but not show the menu. Is a bug? I cant use PIP function because there Is this problem. I click, but nothig. Can help me?
There isn't a saturation control, as you can see from its notable absence on the video. But you can adjust that in the graphics driver (Nvidia calls it 'Digital Vibrance Control').
It's a monitor, not a TV. And it runs at the resolution of the system if it's supported by the scaler, otherwise the GPU handles the scaling and the monitor simply runs at its native 3840 x 2160.
See my reply. You change the system resolution, same as any monitor. You don't "set" the resolution on any monitor, it is dictated by the resolution you select on the system/game and whether the monitor will provide scaling for the resolution that's set. If the monitor can't run at the resolution that's set, the GPU will handle the scaling instead.
If it suddenly occurs it indicates a possible fault with the monitor, which I'm assuming is out of warranty given the age of the screen. You should perform a factory reset (shown near the end of the video). And if you can try another system to check if it happens on that one as well.
I have this monitor and have been struggling so much with settings. Right now I believe my menu is locked - I should be able to press the jogger button for 10 seconds to get the main menu back but it doesn't do anything, can anybody help? :(
@@sarahstrauss5637 You're probably using it via displayport, like I am. Try using an hdmi cable and then switch to hdmi mode and then the global menu should start working again. Happened on mine too, no idea why though.
Not sure what you mean be "ik". But make sure the colour signal is correct as advised in this article - pcmonitors.info/articles/correcting-hdmi-colour-on-nvidia-and-amd-gpus/.
@@PCMonitors Thanks for the reply. Apprecaite it. But, the actual viewing area can't possible be 28 inches?! This thing has thick bezels. I think the viewing area is more like 23" I am looking into getting one tonight. Going through your video now. Thaks for the upload.
On modern monitors the screen size given in the model code (U28) or specified by the manufacturer IS the viewable area. Just of the panel, without any border or bezel counted.
@@PCMonitors no the thing is when I try to increase the volume on the bottom of the thing it says mute and the volume logo has a cross on it and I want to undo that
Would depend on the speakers really. It's a headphone jack so not designed for high voltages, but basic speakers should be OK in theory. Audio isn't really my area as a monitor reviewer.
That's because, as noted in the review, it has 2 HDMI 1.4 ports. Which are limited to 30Hz at the native resolution. The Xbox Series X requires HDMI 2.0 for 3840 x 2160 @60Hz+.
That's an extremely rare feature on ANY monitor. And it isn't shown in the video, so no. You need to set a custom resolution of your choice to achieve that kind of thing.
Take of the stand? Do you mean take off the stand? Off? The stand snaps in place just below the TV where it comes together at all four sides. The top part of the stand connects where that line is that goes all the way around it. It snaps in place and the only way I can think of to separate it is with a couple screw drivers. It snaps together firmly so good luck with that.
*Monitor not TV. Good advice though. As more general advice to others wanting to know how to remove a stand from a given monitor - always read the manual. It sometimes shows you how and you'll know what you can and can't do without breaking things. It's a better reference than somebody (i.e. me) who last used the monitor several years ago.
@@PCMonitors when I press the button it gives me a menu and on the bottom it says power off so I just press that and when I want it on I press the power button again?
The U28D590D has a joystick (JOG button) which is directional. You press it inwards like a button and that controls power. So press it in when the monitor is off and it will switch on.
@@PCMonitors sadly I am not using the U28D590D I think I’m using a new model so I don’t have the joystick so should I just press the power button again?
Here's your answer then: you can't. And I'm not aware of any monitor that lets you flip the OSD completely like that (sometimes rotate 90 degrees for portrait viewing). Out of interest, why do you need to rotate the OSD 180 degrees?
@@PCMonitors Because the "genuises" from Samsung placed the VESA mount on the very top of the monitor so when I try to mount it on a 2-monitor support it almost stands on the ground (desk). And because I have a TN panel I can't flip it physically... I guess I'll have to either improvise or get a monitor with the VESA mount in a normal place.
Unfortunately the monitor only supports HDMI 1.4, so it's limited to 30Hz at the native resolution. As covered in the review you need to use DisplayPort for the full 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz.
If You have the Samsung u28D590 you have only hdmi 1.4 If you have the Samsung u28E590 E !!! Not D You have to put the hdmi cable from xbox one x to the hdmi Port 2 on your monitor. It hast hdmi 2.0 Hdmi Port 1 have only hdmi 1.4
Hi, I have connected my M1 macbook air to this monitor through displayport and it works at 4K@60Hz. Yet, I can't configure the monitor settings as they are all greyed out (no picture, screen options and information menu). The only available options are Freesync, PC/AV mode and Display port version. Do you have any idea why? Could the macbook be the problem? I haven't tried with other computers, b.t.w. the cable is 8K ready so I think it's not the problem. Any help is appriciated. Thanks for the video.
I have the same monitor and the same issue when using it through the displayport. Switching to an hdmi cable allows me to access the global menu. When using DP only the quick menu is available, but not the bigger one that should pop-up when pressing the "ok" key. This only works and shows up in hdmi mode for some odd reason.
I have this monitor, It is good but I have one problem with it. If I wanted to play Playstation 5/4 The picture will be only good if I activated the game mode, the picture will be blurry and out of focus if the game mode is off That’s why I couldn’t control the colors in It🥲
