This samsung LED TV model UN60J620DFXZA has no picture, no light at the bottom, and no sound, its totally dead. After troubleshooting we find a shorted MOSFET (Metal Oxide Field Effect Transistor) and a blown AC fuse. Because we don't have the exact mosfet or "fet" for short, we have to use a replacement fet.
I'm going to show you how to read the fet and find a replacement mosfet with matching specs and thus fixing this 60 inch Samsung TV's power supply board. However if U dont want to go threw all that, after you figure out the tv has a blown AC fuse then you can just replace the entire power supply board # BN44-00775a which goes for about $90.00 on ebay vs. just replacing the fets for about $3.00 each.
These are other known 60 inch Samsung models that use this same power supply board:
Samsung

Thank you so much for taking us all on the entire journey. So many videos stop at just replacing the power supply. It is so cool to see individual components replaced and your diagnosis to get there. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.

That white silicone stuff is actually thermal silicone paste. It’s designed to transfer heat away from the mosfets. I like your video man. Thanks for sharing. I thought I heard you inquire about what that stuff was there for...

Quick tip for people when you have repaired a power supply either adapt a mains lead or pull one leg of the fuse out and in place put a 100w filament bulb in across where the fuse goes or in series with the mains cable.... if the bulb glows like full on there is a short if it’s dim and like pulses it’s all good to go...... saves blowing up parts you have just changed And BD at the start it looked a bit sooty on the white silicon as if something has gone bang keep up the good work 😁

Great video, my TV actually blew an internal fuse on the power board so that'll need a new one soldered on, this video has helped me understand a lot more to look out for thanks
@wisolutions
@wisolutions 8 месяцев назад
Solastic compound is used to keep stuff in place it seems so if you have to solder on the bottom of the board you can throw solastic on the component solder flip it it over and solder it in most likely. Similar to what they do with flux you can use solastic for holding the component in place. It really has no net negative effect its not electrically conductive. However there is no reason why they wouldn't do things like this to make it a pain to fix however its more likely it makes it easier for them to solder. ;) If they do it in steps it makes sense. This station sets everything next station solders etc... Its not needed though you are right about this.

The white silicone is for vibration control and the heat /cool process so that it reduces bad solder joints as far as i know.Also large components use it as the mass is larger and helps hold it.

Is there a way for contacting you straight? Email or something? I have a Samsung tv that has power only every other day. Sometimes it works for a day or two but after I turn it off it has no power (no standby light) only way to get it working again is unplug from outlet and wait few days. Tv itself has no buttons for reset. What can cause it?

Hey Bigdog!!! I really wish I could talk to you about a tv I just bought! I subscribed and have learned quite a lot just watching your troubleshooting and repairing these various tvs! Awesome job!!! The tv is a Samsung UN65J6200AFXZA that had sound, but no picture, had backlights but a few of them were out and all 6 rows light up. Replaced them with new set, changed the T-Con board now NOTHING works! I only get 8.82 DC Volts going to the main board... I have replaced the T-con twice, the power board once and everything has progressively gone from hopeful to zero and it bugs me! I really want to get this tv fixed. Help! LOL... Any suggestions Bigdog? I appreciate anything... I'm befuddled..LOL Thanks man...

Hi BigDog, thank you for posting your helpful and professional videos! I've been repairing a Samsung UN60J620DAF, and could use your expertise. It started out flashing the picture on and off, I would gently tap the back of the TV and picture would resume, but after a while of this, the picture flashed off and didn't come back. Still had sound, so I ordered a new TCON board and installed it. With that, I got the picture back full time, and the sound was still good, but now there is a pulsing of the picture. It pulses lighter and darker at half second intervals, so rapidly. This happens in all input modes, after adjusting all eco / power / video settings and resetting / restarting everything. After further inspection, I heard a buzzing sound coming from the power board, so I ordered a new one, installed it, but still have the pulsing picture problem. I have also replaced the LVDS ribbon cable with a new one. What do you think could be the problem / what would you suggest I try next? Thank you!

Hi, it is more for prevent of subsonic vibrations, which can be heared sometimes from low quality power supply and can cause damage to the soldering, too. Sometimes you see some kind of wax for this purpouse, sometimes silicone and sometimes parts are completly covered with epoxy.

in that case the silicone is for electrical isolation, note the isolation slots in the pcb between the holes I assume there is some kind of fire hazard if dust builds up in there its not for vibration as those arent free standing components, they are screwed into the heatsink its not for thermal transfer, again they are screwed into the heatsink for that purpose

Any idea if its bad LED's or bad PS? It shows im getting about 414 DC volts in each of D+1, D+2, D-8, D-9. Is that good or bad?

I got 2 TVs one is from 2015 and the other is from 2016 not sure if that matters. But its the same model of tv. So now my understanding is they both had power, but no power to the LED strips and display is okay because I did a flash light test. I do both image of the menu are on there. What else am I missing. I did see a resistor was out, no beep and no read in ohms. I also checked the LED White plug on the power supply. Is one side of the TV is out, leds? Is the whole TV wont show don't display on? The TV is completely dead, and so is the Blu Ray player that is connected to it. The other electronics connected to the same power strip/surge protector are fine. Should I even attempt to try replacing the boards to try to fix it? Or could both the power board and main board be fried and it wouldn't be worth it. Just hate to see the thing goes to waste. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

@bigdog8882

If U appy voltage to the PS on (should be less than 5v 1A) its only going to turn on the 12v and 5v supply. There should also be a BL on (Backlight On) pin too. U can try to do it that way just starting at about 3v and go to no higher than 5v. I never tried to turn on the BL circuit with the board out of the TV, so don't really know if thats going to work, but it should. Good Question though! Thanks for watching too.

@@bigdog8882 I found the answer by mistake, the power supply seems to be on, when the mainboard is disconnected(at least mine are) The backlight power as well, The standby in your video is 12.7 v meaning it's on, vs the 8v when off, I have 300+v on the backlight terminals as well. When I plug in the backlights the power supply quits, it seems my LEDs are shorted as well. resistors are good. Thanks for the reply! Keep making great videos!

@@speter60 Note, If you unplug the connector from the Main to PS board and the backlights come on, then your Backlights are good. Probably have a mainboard issue. I forget that this TV use's a low instead of a high to turn on the BL's and PS board.

They've been adding it to stop the high voltage attracting dust and fine hairs being electrostatically attracted to the pins. Most of the boards from Samsung after around 2011 seem to have this. Earlier boards collected quite a bit of this rubbish and many boards died because of it if the humidity got too high.

Most of the time, if the gate is shorted to the source, I'd be checking the resistors from the gate to the driver chip. Most of these circuits have a low ohmage resistor and cap there to slow up the gate turn on just a little bit. If they're shorted or open, the driver chip has also taken voltage it shouldn't have and will need replacement. The driver chip output pin should not be a short to ground either. Getting specific driver chips can be a real hassle if you want them quick as there are hundreds of different ones (for both the pfc and switcher). I seem to live 3 or 4 weeks from anywhere. I like your videos but, please don't do this without an isolation transformer and never reach across a P/S board to turn on/off bench power. Also, that fuse shouldn't be a glass envelope type, they go bang with bits going everywhere. You had me cringing there.
