Your videos are like semi-ASMR for me. I stream most of your reviews while working. Glad you covered this monitor too. Those type-C ports are just brutal. It doesn't even have at least one HDMI.
In Australia. This monitor is a steal. I bought two, for a beautiful editing setup. You can get this for $1724 at AUD vs $2500 AUD for the Apple Cinema Display. $700 difference in price! I love the image quality and matte screen. Honestly, I’m stoked with what it is.
Most of online markets I viewed were over $2000 for this Samsung Viewfinity S9. Beside some errors happen if you use with macbook and mac products. Need to update the driver or software I think about turn on the monitor after hibernate.
I wouldn't pay $1600 and buy it either. But it is sold for 850 dollars in Turkey and I bought it immediately :)) I think Apple realized that it could not compete with this price and started selling it at affordable prices in some countries. Thanks for the video, I have a question. You said 89% RGB on S9. How much is this rate for Apple Studio Display?
Warranty depends by country. For example, where i live (Spain) companies MUST give you 3 years of warranty in electronic products. Across Europe its 2 years tho.
@@teohontech7141 Wow, that's actually really disappointing considering the price. Thanks for the response! Your content is very entertaining/calming/informative.
@@needleninja Does that result in two cropped 16:9 squares with dead-space around them? Or does it reformat the pictures to split down the middle of the monitor? In case you have the answer. Thanks for the response.
The Spyder5Pro calibration is quite good. I've managed to get consistent results over the years except when the monitor obviously has lousy colour support.
I'm not sure I'm convinced at 13:05 that the colors are actually matching. In fact, I'm sure they don't. The oranges of the beach are MUCH more saturated on the Monitor vs. the MacBook to me, the yellow left part of the beach leans into magenta on the monitor vs. yellow on the MacBook, and the upper part of the water looks a tad more blue on the monitor vs. ever so slightly greener on the Mac.
@@ashleylordess5621 Maybe so - this one definitely is, and it's not calibrated 'perfectly' to match the MacBook. The question now becomes: CAN it even be calibrated to actually match the MacBook perfectly? Because this one clearly doesn't.
@@leslielemmon - It probably can be calibrated 'perfectly' to match the Studio Display, but whether the average consumer could do it is another matter. It might need professional calibration.
The previous Gen of this monitor is the Samsung M8 4K monitor, that is a VA panel that peaked at 400 nits. The one he is reviewing is the s9 5k version that is an IPS panel instead that peaks at 600 nits with a wider colour gamut (sRGB and DCI P3: 100% and 99% respectively) The VA panel in the M8 has slightly better black levels but poor viewing angles. The M8’s colours looked very washed out in comparison to the s9. The s9 looks way better in brightness, colour accuracy and vibrancy but slightly worse black levels but honestly the s9 for a matter display is as goods as it gets. Technically on paper, the display is just as good as the ASD
Teoh, thanks for making a practical and detailed review of the S9, this was helpful.. Iam debating between this monitor vs 32" Asus ProArt PA329CRV, which one would you advice I should go with? I have MBP 16 and i do photo, video editing and graphics design.
Has tenido problemas con ello? sabes alguna solucion? gracias.
Is your external calibration device the only way to get your S9 monitor to match your MacBook? Will the app calibration in the Samsung smart things app bring it close to the MacBook display?
You can try the calibration provided by Samsung. The thing is even without the Samsung display, how do you know if your Macbook display is colour accurate in the first place?
@@iconikreviews5377 If you do not have a colour calibration, you will have to manually match the colours using the settings and by eye. It is a very tedious and time consuming process.
I'm wondering if the bottom of the Samsung monitor in its lowest position is the same height from the table as the bottom of the Apple monitor using the regular stand. Thorough review, thanks.
@teohontech7141 thanks, what I'm trying to understand is if the s9 goes lower than the studio display or are they similar height in their lowest position?
Hi, I have a question about the different color space modes. I have bought two of these monitors and want to grade in Resolve, typically BT 709. So I set the monitors to BT 709, Do I *also* have to set the Mac's system preferences to BT 709 as well? or leave it at default or Display P3? This has confused me for weeks. When I view content not created by me. the blacks look too black, but I always grade to scopes and never crush content that I create. I'm unsure at how it will look to other peoples once I export and they view it.
I usually switch to AdobeRGB mode before calibrating since that's the widest colour gamut. Sidenote: 100% AdobeRGB displays are more expensive for a reason. After calibration, you can switch the monitor colour mode to P3. You will definitely need a colour calibrator so that the two displays can be calibrated to the same standard (and colours). Unfortunately, you would be able to know how your video will look on other people's display because everyone uses different displays. People could be watchnig your videos on an old yellowing display. You can only control the colours on your end.
@@teohontech7141 Thanks for replying, but, I don't think you answered my question :( I want to use the monitor's out of the box BT709 mode. I assume I should switch the monitor to BT 709. Do I also switch my desktop Mac's System Preference > Display Settings to BT 709 also? or am I adding setting upon setting, compounding the issue? I want to then grade in Resolve I do have a Calibrate Display Plus
@@huggeebear Just switch to AdobeRGB on the monitor then calibrate. Then switch to P3 on the monitor. There's no need to change the settings within MacOS.
@@teohontech7141 Why not Rec709 though (instead of P3)? Isn't this what Resolve expects and renders out to? Or is P3 the widest/best fit for content consumption?
I need 3 5k monitors. I think I am going to buy one Apple Studio Display and 2 Samsung Viewfinity 9s on each side in a vertical orientation. I like this monitor but the speakers are no good and I prefer glossy screens for video and graphic work. I can use my main screen for that and the side ones for programming or doing other things
@@teohyc Oh, sad. For me personally it is "no go", as I'm sensitive and clearly hear it at my home environment. Its exactly as you said port area from where sound comes.
Oh wow, I’ve never noticed this on mine. I may be wrong but have your looked into what extension you’re using? In the pass, switching to an ups that had more stable output helped reduce such sounds that I would experience at the ports or when I plugged in headphones. If this is unique to just the monitor then yeah maybe returning was the best option
@@seriultgmx as i mentioned i tried two different S9 screens from different suppliers, but both had same issues. Now I got Apple Studio display and have no issues with any coil whine sound. But I probably prefer S9 if one had no issues.
weird they put a mini dp instead of a full sized dp or hdmi. I mean who has a mini dp adapter? Might as well omit it and lower the price a bit. Also I am glad the web cam is removable bc I would 100% remove it (shitty quality). Again, might as well omit it or make it optional accessory to lower the price a bit. In perfect world, I would take it without mini dp, no webcam, no stand (I will VESA mount it anyway) and lower the price by 200 USD.
@@teohontech7141 thank you for your recommendation so much 🌱🌷🌱 the question is not in price (at least in 1st place) but in comfort. Im gonna use it with a 15.6 laptop, so that the laptop will be a a little bit higher then the level of the table, and ABOVE that I plan to put a monitor. So I will use laptop`s keyboard and wont be able to sit on the appropriate distance from the big 27" monitor, which is why Im thinking about something around 22-24.
This monitor had a big price drop during black friday sale. If I didn't already have a Huawei Mateview 28 I would have snapped one. When it's on sale it is decent, but I will not get it at regular price.
Yeah, I just really don’t know why they couldn’t just invest in better speakers. Specially when you’re charging the same amount as the ASD that has phenomenal speakers. You don’t have to be as good as those but at least make them decent. The device is not cheap.
I do not recommend buying the Samsung ViewFinity S9 product, as it is one of the worst products produced by Samsung. This model cannot be run on a personal computer, except for the latest version of the laptop that accepts running such a Viewfinity S9a model. I purchased and have tried to get support from the Middle East agent in Dubai, but I cannot find support. This is stupid technology because it does not connect with a desktop computer.
