So, why not be silly with some out of nowhere, random playthrough of an arcade fighting game! Yay. I played this game a lot as a kid back in the days.
Samurai Shodown is a fighting game released in 1993 for the arcades and was published and developed by SNK. The game would later go on to have home ports on various consoles like the SNES, Sega Mega Drive, Sega CD to name a few.
Players select from a character roster of 16 warriors, each equipped with their own unique weapon and unique fighting styles. Haomaru; a Japanese samurai fights with a sword, Charlotte; a French noblewomen, fights with a rapier, Earthquake; an American gangster, fights with a sickle and chain.
A game mechanic features a POW bar on the lower screen. When a player suffers enough damage, the POW bar is filled, making their attacks more stronger. Also, the game features weapons clashing, where, at random, the characters will suddenly clash weapons, and the player is instructed to press attack and toggle the joystick rapidly. Whichever of the two is successful, will see their opponent lose their weapon. Another feature is that at certain intervals, there is a bonus game, where the player must cut down a certain amount of straw dummies within a certain time and be awarded bonus points. Players must defeat all 16 opponents (including a mirror match). Only then, if successful, will they go on to battle against the final boss.
Long ago, in feudal Japan, a wizard made a pact with a demon being named "Ambrosia" for power and fortune. The wizard led an uprising against the ruling Tokugawa nobility. But, to no avail, and the wizard was captured and executed. A few years later, the spirit of the wizard possesses a young ninja (Hattori Hanzo's brother, Shinzo). With his return, the wizard begins plotting his revenge against the Tokugawa. Using the magic power of the mystical Palenke Stones, the wizard plans to bring Ambrosia into the human world. Such actions cause great disturbances across the world, attracting the attention of many great fighters who set out to investigate the strange phenomena. Each driven by their own personal agendas..
(Also, I went to fast in the character select screen when I went to press continue and ended up choosing Charlotte instead lol. So, enjoy Charlottes ending. Very silly indeed).
