This is EXACTLY this comparision that I was looking for, from a month meybe... Thanks. And as I already read and watch some stuff about this lens I will add few words from myself: Bokeh as you say, will be slightly better in Viltrox becouse of focal lenght, but as well becouse of update possibility to 1.6. From other hand - color rendering is better on Samyang. Check out your wideo around 4:03 at AF comparision, you can clearly see that Samyang colors are more... saturated? (I guess). Overall both of them seems to be very, very good lens. And its is worth to notice that on a days there will be mark II of Viltrox 85 on the market (improvement of weight, lens hood and AF). Unfortunately I didn't update mine to get that f1.6 at the time when recording this video, (and failed to update it, seems like it's a bit more tricky) as for the saturation, it could be the difference from my editing on lightroom, but I do feel like the out of camera photos tend to go: Viltrox - Orange , Samyang - Blue, but very very slightly, so something that can be easly adjusted! That's true, there will be a second version of the Viltrox, but then again, the size/weight of the 75mm is amazing, so both of these lenses are amazing, I guess it all depends what Your priorities are 😀

Like the bokeh comparison with real photo! Is there any slight difference in terms of video autofocus between these two lenses? I own the 35mm 45mm and 75mm from Samyang and know about its hunting before catching the right focus in slightly darker environment. Is Viltrox any better in terms of speed and accuracy? It can't be exactly the same right~ Also, how does its AF compare with Sony's own 85mm's? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the great review! I am hesitating between the Viltrox 85mm, the Yongnuo 85mm and the Samyang 75mm. I have a Sony A6000 with a crop sensor, when I take head shots and portraits with my 18-105 zoom lens I barely go above 50-60mm. Is this a good reason to go for the Samyang? would the Viltrox be TOO close to the subject with a crop sensor?

Thank You! Remember that the A6000 with something like 85mm is more like 127.5mm on full frame, so that would be way out of range You are looking for. 75mm would be about 112mm, so it's too a bit too close, if You mostly want 50-60mm (take some photos with the 105mm and see how You like them, and that should give You the answer if that is something You are looking for with these lenses) 😄

I just don't know which one to choose, less weight and size and a slightly more versatile focal length VS better "stronger" bokeh bit bigger and heavier...

I love Samyang and religiously use their 12mm manual lens. But the Viltrox wins this one only because you can take it down to F1.6 and visibly see the IRIS open more than before so it's not just a software hack AND that large front glass element / heavy metal just feels and looks professional. It's a very nice lens to look at and hold I love it.

FYI, the new Viltrox 85mm Mark II is much lighter at roughly 1/3 lighter of the older model. Its still double the weight however.

I have got the Mark II of Viltrox. Great lens and I got it for 300 USD brand new last summer. I'm really happy with it.

Not sure if It's just an impression but the bokeh from the Viltrox seems more creamy. Do you also see it from the real pictures? Great review btw!

I think in the end because they are both so close the decision to buy one or the other would be the price. Both look super good.

One thing I didn't mention, is that Viltrox supposedly has an update that makes it go down to f1.6, but I still think the lightweight/size of Samyang is just soooo good ! :D

As for bokeh on 85mm it may look “better” because the object in the focus is larger on the picture (probably shots taken from the same distance). Photgrapher should have done few steps forward in order to make the comparison that really works. As far as I know Samyang’s bokeh is way smoother.

Hey ! We did actually test it trying to match the framing, all in all we still felt like we liked the 85mm better in terms of bokeh, but than again remember that the lens is waaay bigger so that could be the difference. Both of the lenses create a very similar looking image tho!

I personally own the viltrox 85mm and use it to this day. I just like it that bit better (more bokeh and 85mm looks nicer for me but it's a small difference and more of a preference ) 😄

Well in my opinion there are many that will look for weight (especially travel content creators) Also if the quality overall will be about the same, then I guess weight/size/build quality will be the the deciding factor 😄
