thanks a lot, Shawn, very clear tutorial. I am not a film/video man yet getting into it. just one thing, you explained the use of the ring with the distance markers. do you mean that on a set the crew constantly works with an array of markers, for camera (-man?) as well as filmed subject(s)? and that would only be in 'static' scenes? just curious how it works in practice.

In this video in the garden what lens did you use and camera ? beautful look

Couple things, The focus markings, mark distance from the sensor (or focal plane), not the front of the lens, and there are a lot of rendering glitches in this video, something to look into in the future, thanks for the overview anyways.

what camera did you use to film you, it looks so sharp

Actually in a industry or high end level production these days the 1st AC would pull focus from a monitor with a wireless follow focus system and not directly be looking at the lens.

i have the regular samyang cine 85mm T1.5. at 1.5 its really soft and fringing .. . .

they look a bit green, dont you think?

Great video, but I gotta question about distance... let me do understand.. we know exacly how we can set the distance on lens but how do we know is that object is in the same distance? we need to look on the screen of camera to see if that object is on focus than we can be sure how far is that object from camera . How we can make sure without looking on screen to know that object is on focus ? bcuz we can say how about is a distance from object to camera. please someone let me know ;)
