Take a trip down San Diego Comic-Con memory lane with us as we look back at the convention in the 1970s and through the decades, with videos from the CBS 8 archives. Comic-Con started as a one-day event called San Diego’s Golden State Comic-Minicon, on March 21, 1970 at the U.S. Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego. These days the convention is anything but "mini," and celebrates a variety of pop culture and entertainment genres. Carlo Cecchetto is your guide.
Bob Clampett 1972
Ray Bradbury 1974
June Foray 1980
Conan director Richard Fleischer 1984
Matt Groening 1990 Simpson's
Angelina Jolie
Jeff Bridges 2010

Omg, that’s my son at the 30:15 mark in the Batman outfit lol. He was 5 years old-and just turned 18 this year. I exhibit every year and so he attends each year as well, as we did this past year. He’s wearing a pin button for my comic book series. I had never seen this clip before, what a shock it was to see this after I randomly decided to play this report in the background as I worked.

This is a wonderful mostly spot on accurate 36-minute history of San Diego Comicon which Randy Reynaldo brought to our attention this morning. This local TV production rightfully names Shel Dorf as founder. He mistakes Shel's previous comics convention roots to New York City when he should have mentioned Shel was also a founder beginning in 1964 of Detroit Triple Fan Fair with Jerry Bails, Ed April, Jack Promo & others. Am pleasantly surprised to show up at the 1:30 mark. Right after my edited segment, long time friend David Scroggy chimes in. We witness Terry Stroud (LA), Bill Emerson (NY), Bob Clampett, Ray Bradbury, Jack Kirby and many more long time SDCC attendees as it grew. And grew. Well worth scoping out. Enjoy

Thank you for showing what the real Comicon used to be like. It got taken over by people who are way to into stuff like CosPlay and all that and made it kind of overdone. Just people who enjoyed reading and sharing comics.

I googled the current prices of those comics that were selling for $250-$700 - some are commanding a $12k to $30k price tag now 😳😳😳

Hobbies were the best. Now every single thing is all about resell and that destroyed all the fun.

Blows my mind to see how mainstream comics have become, I got out of it at 18 because it was still considered kid stuff (except for the prices).

I don't think comics are mainstream at all these days. ComicCon is mainstream lol

@@Ghostin93 Yeah, but it's even more accepted than when the Big Bang Theory guys went, cause even their girlfriends didn't like it.

@@michaelleary9233 I don't think so because not every neighborhood in the US has a comic book specialty store.

06:18 is he joking right? American comics have a LOT to thank italian comic artists for, ESPECIALLY the 60's and 70's
