We were able to meet our goals in life back in the 80's. We had tons of dreams. All we needed to do was to reach them.

@@kennyholeater2494 In all fairness, there is a huge difference between the "techies" of then and now. My paternal grandfather worked for AMES out at Moffet Field, and my dad worked in the tech sector from the 70s until the mid 2000s. Started on an assembly line, and worked his way to management, and learned computer programing. Then there was my maternal grandfather that worked for Hewlett Packard. The techies of then were mostly military veterans = back then that was one of the few places you could learn those skills if you were among the many that couldn't get in to, or afford Stanford. They were just regular family men that worked their way up. Many of the companies that made microchips, and motherboards and built the machines were started by veterans that worked at AMES, and Lockheed. Most of them were raised in the community they lived and worked in, and would raise their children in. Even my first job ever was assembling motherboards. Now the "techies", more like code monkeys" we have are entitled little snot noses, mostly from out of state, who never worked for minimum wage, and never had to earn their way to the middle, let alone the top. And don't get me started on the H1Bs who played an equal role in displacing the locals. None of these people coming here ever had any intention of the long term and being a part of our community. Just using it. Maybe enjoying their time here, but then moving on, and not caring about what they leave in their wake. The "techies" of today are entitled and elitists locusts.

As a San Francisco native (born and raised)...I love to see these vids of my home, which only now remain as a memory, which is now overrun with transplants, hipsters, political lunatics, drug addicted street dwellers and all other lower rung forms of humans. I miss my home so very much. Watching this video is so bittersweet.

It’s a phase , a natural consequence of human life in society. Either the collective responds to the wellbeing of society, or the greed of a few creates a decay so deep that it dooms itself.

I am a Santa Cruz native myself. But I lived and worked in SF for many years. Got my first apartment there in the 90s. Once upon a time I loved the city so much I swore up and down and I would never leave. In 2016 I had finally had enough with all the things you mentioned. So glad I am not the only one who noticed it. Part of me could almost cry watching these old videos remembering what once was, knowing what is to come seeing it now. If this is what getting old is, I now understand why some old people I knew growing up were so grouchy.

Said every person who ever lived anywhere. I was born in the South Bay and lived in the city 20 years ago as an adult. I would be 7 in this video. The city is still the city...there were crackheads back then also...lots of homeless people...I remember it all as a child. I was in the city twice this year and it's not much different. Some stores I used to like to visit have closed after the pandemic.
@ZetaReticuli_

Things have never been perfect, but what a mess at the moment. Just think, though, humanity has survived awful plagues and wars and other hard times, and gotten through it before, and we will again. It's not the end of the world, but it's time to stop destroying it.

I see it isn't just me saying it. Thank you. Obviously we are not alone in this consensus judging by so many other similar comments here. I guess the good news is that if that many are pointing out how rotten things are now compared to then, then maybe we can finally start changing things for the better.

The stub at 1:29 was meant as a continuation of the Embarcadero Freeway to the GG Bridge. If it would have been built, the Embarcadero Freeway would have connected the GG Bridge and the Bay Bridge.

Wow! The 1980's was the Era! This video brings soooo Much Memories, when I was living in San Francisco. You actually filmed my Neighborhood, of where I was Raised as a Child. The North Beach, Columbus Ave., Chinatown, Fishermen's Wharf, Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, Aquatic Park, Nob Hill, Coit Towers (where we used to Party as Teens), Downtown, and just about Anywhere a young person can Hang Out and Explore. There was soooo Much to do in San Francisco, it brings so much Good Memories. Seeing it now in 2023? The Entire City Council Government needs to be Impeached! They have ran San Francisco into the Ground! It's a Total Mess! They Defunded the Police, Crime is at Record Highs, Open Air Drug Use, the Homeless Everywhere, using the Streets as Toilets, Daytime Robberies, Car Break Ins in broad daylight! Just Far Left Liberal Democratic Ways, that's Destroying the Rich Cultures of SF. It's a Ghost Town now, with 200,000 High Tech Employee's, Never Returning, Tourism is at Record Lows, Empty Buildings at Record Highs, Major Companies have Moved to Vegas, even Sports Teams. Very Heartbreaking to See! Fire the Mayor and Everyone in the City Government! And remove those Dominion Voting Machines out of the Voting Sites! The Same Useless People will Always Win! Dominion is Compromised!
