San Francisco has some of the best equipment. When they're responding it sounds fantastic. All that engine noise, air horns blaring , and sirens screaming, echoing through the streets, makes you feel like they'll move heaven and earth just to get to you. There are real challenges to fighting fires in San Francisco and the men and women of S.F.F.D. meet those difficulties on a daily basis. I think they're just great.
The sound of a manual siren and air horn is very different in a big city with multi story buildings on each side. I moved out of the big city I grew up in more than 45 years ago and watching this video transported me to the times I visited downtown. I've done a bit of walking around in San Francisco so watching took me back to those experiences. I don't miss these experiences, I don't leave the rural area I live in very often anymore. Thanks for this video!
San Francisco has grown over the years best city in the whole west coast of the United States of America California and state number 31 with the best city San Francisco California my hometown my rules
Say what you like, but to have the ability to put that amount of resources on the scene within a few minutes is very impressive, hats (or helmets) off to the Frisco' bravest!
My Mother lived at 775 Post Street for 17 years. You can see the building in the far right at Post & Leavenworth at 3:41 in the video. 3 blocks left of that is the fire station. We constantly heard fire engines the entire time we lived there including when an arsonist set fire to the apartment next to ours in 1972 which gave my Mother her first heart attack and left me fighting the fire because I had been in the front of our apartment on the 6th floor doing homework for college & the smoke was too thick to see how to get out so I played a hose on the door of the burning apartment until firemen arrived.
The SFFD always has a major response to fires in the city. The proximity of the structures can turn a small fire into a whole block of flames. Ever since the 1906 earthquake SFFD has been doing this. Kind of like having a gun and not needing it. Better too many resources.
I'm so glad I live in San Francisco. We got a wonderful fire department. I reported a small fire in my building on the 3rd floor and as soon I got off the phone with the 911 operator they were coming already.Fire was contain and only 1 unit was damage, fire started in the kitchen. Someone left a dish cloth by the flame on the gas stove and started the fire.
Nice catch! This is why I like the San Francisco Fire Department. The responses are heavy, especially if its for a call like a fire alarm. San Jose FD only sends their first due Engine and Truck. The response for the SFFD is like a full first alarm for SJFD, except with 2 Battalion Chiefs, not just one and minus one engine. I am a huge fire buff myself and I am a HUGE fan of responses and this is an example of an EPIC Response!
The reason why San Francisco Fire Department send heavy load is because most buildings are wooden structures and buildings are close together and fire spread is a threat.
Good looking hook and ladder truck san Francisco fd your service is deeply appreciated thanks go giants and 49ers ha best wishes to everyone who responds keep up the good work. Joe
I hope when I come to the States in the near future from South Australia I’ll get to see a response like this! Apart from wanting to see the glorious and massive freight trains you have in the state of California I also want to see some fire trucks too! As that is my other passion from railways and tramways. The fire trucks over there are a little different to what we have in service with the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS). I love your old fire stations too or firehouses as you guys and girls call them. So much character to them. And the noise of these trucks screaming down the city streets is absolutely awesome. Absolutely love these videos! 👌😍🇺🇸 Thanks for posting. Cheers Caleb
Hope you have a blast when you come. One amazing train to see is the rail layer or transporter. The rails are like a mile long and they have to transport them like that. You can see how long they are in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EaGgaTGAwO4.html
when you do...LA is the place to be for responses...the city fire dept runs a task force (2 engines 1 truck) with a light force (200 engine, truck) and typically two more engines to a structure fire with ambulances, battalion chief, and if greater...more than that. but i'm guess you knew that and that we even have a tow truck for special rescues, collapses, and certain overhaul operations.
Terry k I’m sorry to hear that is what you do you low life inconsiderate son of a bitch who CLEARLY doesn’t see that Prius could have caused an accident, dumbass

Terrific catch as usual san Francisco fd your service and time and efforts are deeply appreciated thanks to everyone who responds keep them safe out there job well done you should be proud love and respect you guys thanks ! Joe
medical call = AWWwWWWWwWWWW, EMS and fire fighters are mad. Fulling involved structure fire = every engine, squad, and truck in the county responding. trust me ive seen it first hand. we got called off becouse the county 2 mils away from us beat us to a dryer fire. like 10 aperatise showed up
Love the never ending fight between EMS and real FF. I'M fire/rescue, my brother is a paramedic. He hates me. Every time we see each other, I tell him I'm dehydrated and need a cup of water. He tells me to go back to sleep.
Gotta love these big citys. The cars do not care and will just drive right on by. That road would of been blocked off in 30 seconds after our first engine arrived. I wouldn't put firefighters lifes in risk. But these city guys deal with it all the time so hats off to them.
You got to hand it to the yanks they don't mess about when it comes to their emergency services god bless the American people from a UK firefighter ❤❤❤
It's not so much to do with an earthquake and fire 1906 or other yr. Every FD sends large responses to tall buildings. And/or downtown. You need the manpower and it's better to have more than you need then not enough.
And I may have lost count but I only saw 4 Engines, 2 Tillers, a BC and a HR. My mid size town will send 2/3 Engines and a (the) Tower truck and an EMS to EVERY fire. They would like a 2nd Truck to respond but we only have one. If they "need" another one they can git one of the nearby smaller towns to send a "stick" truck.(we have one of the only two platform/towers in the (large) county)
@@jackgibsxxx0750 Here in Oregon, we send 2 engines, 1 chief and 2 trucks on the unconfirmed. a confirmed sends 2 extra engines, 2 rehab units, another chief, heavy rescue, PIO and an ambulance. I generally feel bad for smaller towns around us without the amount of resources we can bring in.
@@tyw7205 When you say “here in Oregon” that’s kind of a broad statement. Every area has different procedures, resources,Manning and threats. I guarantee Portland runs a different response that us peons in Sisters Oregon. 🚒💨
Sounds and sights of The City by the Bay San Francisco, CA and the First responders from the S.F.F.D and other people who deal this job appreciation for your job's on the line guys your friends over in New York didn't deserve this on 9-11 2001 twin towers didn't deserve it
+nexus8765 Plan away, dude. But you had better have patience. San Francisco and San Jose are very traditional, respected fire departments. They only take the best of the best. Don't get into any trouble (don't break any laws, no black marks on your record) and get your EMT. Oh, and polish up on your English -- a well-spoken, articulate candidate will make a positive impression. (It is not "Me and my friends ..." It is "My friends and I ...")
Another good way to become any civil service type job (i.e. Police, Fire, Paramedic) is being a veteran. Veterans get top preference when it comes to Civil Service Testing. I'm hoping to be a career firefighter as well and I'm doing a short stint in the US Navy to help boost my status.
That is a good idea. So is learning to speak Spanish fluently. And while you're at it, become a female who is Black or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or any other minority. Sorry to say this, but if you're a white male, you get points against you by default.
Not in SF....tightly packed urban dwellings and lots of those being wooden or built before modern fire codes...you want that many resources coming to help. NYC, LA, and Chicago send similar amounts of equipment to their calls. It is far easier to turn back trucks than it is to not have enough, and then call them in from other parts of the city. Also, I don't think you would complain if that many trucks responded to a fire at your house...so why complain on here?
Ladders up and 15 trucks for a fire alarm? My dept send the first in engine and the chief.. All other units on stand by then if it's anything further they recall them..
+ImageIsBaws Dumbest thing ever! Alarm here Gets 2 trucks 5 Engines 1 Rescue First Due Engine Truck or Engine Gets command simple, and if needed can cancel any unit en route or on-scene! If we have smoke/fire showing Ladders are up within 90secs line thru the door in 40secs. Simple better to be prepared than for a FF to get trapped and in your case have to wait for " Stand-by" units to arrive 4th in due Engine Co. get RIT.
@@Dave911YT I grew up in the heart of San Francisco in the 50s-60s and I witnessed on two occasions when the SFFD did indeed respond to a cat stuck on a high rise building. Not a response like this one but a ladder truck answered the call. Always had and still have the utmost respect for these heroes. (those were the days when there were call boxes on the street corners and you'd break the little glass pane and it would trigger an alarm to the fire department)
