There are hundreds if not thousands of these….I feel unfortunately people only care depending on who the messenger is. If people truly care about how problems start in these communities they would research. Takes you less than a day to find out about poverty in minority communities ,welfare system and gang violence. Listen to what rappers say and use critical thinking what kinda environment normalizes this type of music. What kind of label and people would give millions to these young murderers…. As you search more that’s when you hear about Cointelpro, CIA distributing drugs, red lining etc….but again I stress…people don’t care lol…rather just blame the color of their skin for why they do crime. Sb: if you’re watching a video and all it does is pander to YT guilt, blaming racist conservatives and mention trump multiple times..it’s probably not the right video to learn from.

Would it be cool if I did something similar? We need more people like Andrew and I have been told by my friends that I would do well as a "man on the street" interviewer/personality.
Amazing reporting. Amazingly good job getting into the nitty gritty. I spent 20 years working in the Tenderloin doing sound at Glide Church. You really dug right into this whole mess. Kudo to you. I am now a subscriber.
AC's explanation of what causes the homless and crme is missing the point. Near lawlssness is incentivized by bad policy. But AC thinks everyone is good at heart and only do bad things cause of bad systems. That theory has been disproven time and again. People react to incentives. If you give lax laws and free money then you get results like SF.
The part where you told the dude he didnt look that bad was rough. He looked up at him immediately like "really" shit was heartbreaking. Props for that. Tbh he really dont look that bad
Losing your teeth, even if it’s just all your upper back teeth really does a number on one’s self esteem. Not only is it expensive to get implants , physical problems occur like pain in your back, jaw, facial structure starts to deteriorate making you look much older, it can be hard to chew, even talk right. There is a whole host of problems just from missing teeth…. mentally, physically, and emotionally. You can even die from letting your teeth get infected….That dude has no idea the suffering he will face later on, if he even does decide to get clean, and start to do better. Missing teeth is no joke, and frankly I think he looks bad. On the inside, and out. Most recovering addicts don’t start to truly heal until way after they get clean, and finally get all new teeth. It’s a constant reminder of the life you used to live having no or lots of missing teeth.

andrew, you are my favorite journalist of all time. watching you run into the street alongside the carjacking victim and yelling "what happened? what happened? what happened?" encapsulates exactly what it means to be a serious reporter. walking around a city, observing daily life, literally running to catch up with people involved in an event transpiring in real time, and asking "what happened?" is something that most (successful!) journalists do not have the gall to do. i have been a fan since agnb had a very small following, and i am excited to follow your career through the years :)
incredible work. greatly appreciated the balance of letting the characters you met tell the story without seemingly twisting any words, just showing varying opinions and letting viewers make connections and conclusions. I visited San Fran (as a Canadian) this past year motorcycling across the US. Heard all the stories and history, got there and felt more or less, "this is it?" It was still cool, to be sure. But one of those "never meet your heroes" situations. Unfortunately a very similar story in a lot of the major cities up north, especially on the west coast of Canada.
Didn't expect you to be a Californian too. Regardless I'm seeing a bit of this down here in southern cali. Since I'm not really in the thick of things and the neighborhood is still tame, I want prop 47 repealed immediately and additional funds for the police so they can get some shit going. The latter can be debated. anyways... looking forward to more of your vidya when you get them out!

Everything in this video was facts and made me realize that there were many times I could have been on the wrong path to end up hustling with no way out.
Man. It’s empty now. I’ve never seen market street empty in my life. There were always tourists and something going on. It’s just zombies and empty stores.

Money talks. Nothing will ever change. The people with money would have to decide to literally give it away to those "lesser, lazy poors." Hope it happens but it won't. Gonna get worse across the country.
@@jensgronning4436 Do you even live here? Are you actually seeing what’s happening?Yeah I’m not saying it will change, but this is the type of expose to light a fire, and get people to understand stuff like needle exchange programs are enabling drug use… Like open air drug zones must end. That we must clap back and hire more officers to patrol the tenderloin. That we need to actually enforce property crime laws. That SF can’t be a handout city anymore.
This may get buried, but I used to work with the City Impact Mission in the Tenderloin, right where Andrew is walking. D.A.R.E. taught us that the addicted and homeless do drugs because it's "cool" and "fun," and are just inherently lazy and stupid. What I learned working there is the opposite. They're smart, capable people who are hopeless, abused, and crushed by the system - and if I had lived through their circumstance, fentanyl wouldn't be a strong enough drug to cope. It isn't that they don't want to fix their situation, it's that they can't. For every story that was told in this vid, I've heard a dozen much worse, and nobody - I mean NOBODY - deserves the things that have happened to them. If you think it can't happen to you, I've met enough corporate bankers on the street to know that it can. Thank you for showing this to the world Andrew. And for anyone watching: the homeless don't need your pity. They need your help.
Every single addict in the world is not just a perfect angel. Your logic is no different than someone who went on a ride-along with police and goes around preaching about how all cops are perfect and amazing people. There are evil people, sociopaths, and people with no intent of ever getting clean that are addicted to drugs just like any other walk of life. Wondering how much volunteer work you've actually done to have never met a person that says they absolutely don't want help. This unrelenting sympathy and do-no-wrong attitude towards addicts is not helping anyone, clearly. You people who can't balance sympathy with reality and actionable change are just as bad as the people who show none at all. This is coming from a former addict. Nobody who ever tried to baby and nurture me out of my addiction by calling me a brilliant little angel person ever made a difference. You didn't have to say you've never dealt with it, because your attitude gives it all away. This obsessive sympathy and feigned virtue signalling/compassion is just as much of a disease as addiction, just more sinister because you look like a bad person for calling people out when their whole personality is "Look at me, I care about everyone so much!" I know addicts that are still on the streets that would manipulate and take advantage of people like you, to no end. And the whole time you'd be losing sleep over how to show more compassion to people who wouldn't bat an eye if they saw you get gunned down in the street.
There are a hundred other independent journalists that do this on RU-vid... and some are definitely putting out higher quality stuff.I like Andrew and Channel 5 but to say this is hilarious.
