Just got back from SF, parking was a nightmare, had to park a mile from my hotel. Even though we got soaked it was still awesome. After races everyone hanging at bars and restaurants talking about the race, good times.
Every Supercross season needs one or two mud races. It restocks the field and mixes things up. Plus it's part of the sport that is real. I'm not that worried about the teams and if the fans leave then it is the same as other sport sadly.
The fact that 250s still race for a regional title, is pathetic. What’s even more pathetic is the fact that a 250 regional title, some how means more than a 250 national MX title… shows how ass backwards this sport is
This was full on survival Mode, I think anyone of these pro riders especially those on a factory bike could have won this one with a hole shot and just stating up, but chase still executed! I did notice that 3 of the physically most in shape guys physically finished 1,2,3, so there is that! Chase Eli KEN ALL beasts
Why is no one talking about Kenny? He was almost dead last sitting on the table top right after the start and within 3-4 laps he was dang near in the top 8. Kenny is being under looked, if he pulls a hole shot he’s got the W all day long
Yo they don't respect Kenny but he is a true legend! I think it's a money thing Kenny is probably worth big amounts that the factories don't want to pay when they can get a Jett and develop him and Payless and make more. But Kenny was definitely on his A game!
Nah he was just boosting his ego to make racing better just like he did for Kenny. I'm looking forward to this season here's hoping nobody gets hurt and we have a full gate throughout the entire season including the Outdoors
Mud races shouldn’t be a part of Supercross. Supercross should be in doors all places with the exception being the stadiums with retractable ceilings. I feel like mudders should be left for the summer , for the outdoors. We need to keep what makes them unique , exclusive to each series. The elements should be a part of the outdoors not Supercross . No one wants to sit out in cold rain all night.

So yeah the weather plays a factor as it should, and maybe you wouldnt sit out in the rain after spending $ for tix and getting there but i have at daytona before, at charlotte in 98, and atlanta as a kid when they was at fulton county stadium before moving it to the dome...last nights packed crowd for the 450 main event just shows plenty of people will do it😂
I was there all day for the race and the rain didn't stop the fans, the seats weren't as empty as you make it sound and watching this mudder live was one of the more exciting races we've had here. Ive been going to the bay area SX races for years and its hardly ever a mudder! I agree this race shouldnt be in SF, the pits sucked for the teams, mechanics and the fans. There was no problem with having it in Oakland in the past and no more dangerous than any other SX location. I believe the reason Feld had it in SF is because they had Monster Jam the week before and they kept the dirt from that event. Everyone has their opinion on mudders in SX but as a racer and a fan I dont mind it occasionally as it makes things interesting.
The reason they had it at SF is because they are also destroying the Oakland Coliseum so they have to find a new venue and they’re trying to keep it local for a lot of fans. I agree that those seats were not near as empty as he makes it sound, and a lot of people were actually there and maybe just standing inside so they didn’t get all wet. There wasn’t really a single fan that actually left the race until right at the end. I think that honestly maybe bring it to Sacramento and bring it to the Golden one Center. Or go over to the Golden State Warriors basketball arena but the problem with having in basketball areas is it’s arena cross style so you don’t really have much play with anything other than maybe going to Santa Clara, which they’ve done in the past in 2015 or maybe even give Nevada a race and take them to allegiant Stadium or even the stadium for the Nevada Wolfpack for their college team. Or even go play for the Reno aces. The only other option I would see in Norcal is going to Sutter health Park in Sacramento for the River cats.

@@kirk595xthey’re not tearing down the coliseum anytime soon. Supercross signed a 5 year deal to race in sf because it is a nicer stadium, the lack of parking and pit area does suck tho.
It was a lot of fun. In spite of the weather, $18 beer and the venue, my family had a great time. It was great to see Sexton get a win and even better to watch the Lawrence clan struggle. Feld and NBC have brought this sport mainstream for good or ill. It’s got a good vibe even though it’s kinda corny… example dressing Jett in a hero cape rider intro. That said, there were ALOT of fans rooting for ANYONE but a Lawrence brother. San Francisco indeed sucks arse as a venue. I was thinking of The Jammer and his paddle tire as I sat there watching what was essentially a GNCC mudder. Would I go again? Sure enough.
If supercross mud races are so entertaining, why doesnt the promoter build the track.....and then flood it for 3 days before the event? They dont because mud races suck for the riders, mechanics, fans, and sponsors.
I actually love racing in mud and know plenty of amateurs and a few pros that say the same. idk why this is all of the sudden a debate. We’ve been watching and racing in the mud since the beginning of time..the rains not leaving. Everyone agrees it’s not as entertaining as a dry race, we get it, it’s common sense. Couldn't agree with you more about having a SX race in $hithole San Fran. When the broadcasters said the have to wash their bike before they return to the pits I laughed. This is the same dump that allows poop on the streets, open drug use and does not proscicute shoplifters for stealing $900 or less. What a joke.
Might be an unpopular opinion but as someone who had never been to SF I flew in from Phoenix for the race and could not have had a better time. Rain made for an unforgettable race. City wasn’t near as bad as expected either.
I know what you’re saying Cooksey and you have a deeper understanding of behind the scenes.. but….It was for me: Super entertaining. Super unpredictable keeping my eyes glued on the race. Varied conditions should be and are part of the Moto. Gave Jet a break from being at the top and mixed it all up a little. (i.e. people can stop whining about him winning. And cool Swap Moto interview. ) It’s just good for the sport! and fun to watch. Shane McElrath top 5. AP almost winning a heat race and now third in points! Coops doing tricks on the finish line! Prado heat win was cool and seeing the camera on him with all his gang. Plus no one got injured as the speeds were less, We/I loved it!

Never knew about San Fran life away from racing, but valid points made there! I think this race proved why I HA-ATE mud races! This one reminded me of Seville 2003 when Ernesto Fonseca didn't even make the main event. Looking forward to your 250cc video, Cooksey!
There need to be 3 mudders a year, one for east, one for west and one outdoors. It's a part of the sport, a type of terrain that takes a specific skill by both the rider and the team to win in

Yeah it sucks for the fans in attendance but for the series, I think it's just something that needs to happen once in a while because of the specific skill set it takes. Riders tend to avoid riding in rough conditions and those who don't should be able to show that

At least the facilities are good in SF. If kooksie says the city sucks but not the fans, why punish the fans by not having an event up there? The option was Oakland, and it sucks too.

I don't get the people saying mudders are great. Is it great to see the best riders on the planet roll all the obstacles while dragging their feet, going 8 miles an hour while you sit in a wet seat, freezing your ass off? I would rather see good competition. instead of survival.

San Fran is a Zombie Apocalypse! And it's definitely stupid to go where it's raining and cold for a sx.. It's bad for fans, bad for riders, gets people sick, and spend over budget... Wish Vince Freise would be banned from racing at all in supercross, he’s a kamikaze pilot to say the least and there’s too many better riders he’s willing to just smash out to get into a main event. I understand a block pass or a takeout for a championship title but cleaning riders out just to get a chance to get lapped in the main is ridiculous.
I've been to 7 muddy sx races. Two in Pittsburgh, four in Daytona and one in Tampa. I love mud races and don't see them as being a problem. I also think that Sexton is more talented than Jett and has more desire.
Being at a few mud races in Daytona and one in slc I will say the big difference is the temperature. When it rains in Florida and it’s in the mid 80s, the swamp ass is real. But when it rains and it’s in the 50s now you’re talking hypothermia
How can you like paying to watch a bunch of grown men who are suppose to be the best of the best just putting around sitting down and rolling jumps for 15 minutes? Sorry, that doesn’t sound like fun to me at all. I want to see these guys going full send, battling, going fast, hitting the big rhythms and seeing who can find a better line through those sections or go faster through the whoops instead of seeing who can get the holeshot and just survive the race.
to comment on people liking mud races, I would say id much rather be at a dry race, however i was at NJ last year and i gotta say we had a blast. Even with the rain delay and all the fans getting pushed back into the arena, everyone was just hanging out and enjoying the moment. we have a vlog on our channel of the whole day so you can see i guess you could say some "behind the scene" for the fans that night. Made for some good memories with the family. Like i said though, id still rather be at a dry race, but i wasnt bummed either.
It's kind of absurd to punish N.Cal. fans and deny them a supercross just because you don't like San Francisco. The N.Cal. fans are real - the racing history there is real - the legends from there are real. They have nothing to do with the homeless situation. Would change it if they had the power. They don't deserve to suffer because of your rigid ideological biases and prejudices.
Vince has earned being singled out. He has worked long and hard for it. Unfortunately his history makes it less likely for him to get a 'racing incident' pass.
spend all that money on tickets, parking, hotels, gasoline to get there, then they have no second qualifying session no practice session and shorten the main event and 250 and 450 class, I know the mud is hard on bikes, but the fans got the short end of the stick. I went to Glendale last year and not going this year because they did not have the common sense to open the roof of the stadium all the way to let the fumes out and people were leaving in droves before the finals because of the fumes but of course they won't mention that on TV.
They gotta give all the injured riders time to heal that aren’t ready to ride by a1 that’s why I think they moved the east west showdowns later in season. But what’s up with Atlanta getting skipped this year sucks for us Georgia fans. Guess will see yall at the races at Birmingham

I know some people like them, but I don't share the same opinion. I think they are an unfortunate situation, but I understand they happen but I think they should try avoiding Northern California in the rainy season. 🤷♂️
iirc Hunter’s first time around the whoops was a bad line that sent him that way and the second time he dropped 2 spots. It took until the next timing and scoring to realize it though.
As someone that went to the race yesterday I can say it sucked. I love the stadium it’s definitely one of the best stadiums in the country but the set up with the pits was horrendous
Honestly, I feel like this sport needs a revamp. Like 200+ entry fees are just ridiculous. I feel people who are in charge of making decisions like this don't even care about the sport or the fans. They are just in the sport just to say I'm here and leave a mess for somebody else to clean up. Because they don't know network with the privateers and try to make a way for these guys. Just my opinion, I could be wrong
I think an entree fee exists to limit turn out - feld doesn't want 200 entries for each class of every person who holds a license but isn't fast enough for pro sx
Some good points in the video but also contradictions, you can't have 2 opinions that differ. Pick one. Are mudders good or not. Yes. Why? Cause to be the best and crowned champ, you need to do well in mudders. You don't need to win but you better not be way down the finish position. I like mudders cause guys like Chissom get a chance. He mentioned how close he was to a good payout at 4th, and even stated it was his best "Chance" and there arent many left in his career- they all know mudders don't measure anything in reality. They just have a better chance to do better. AP gets a better chance. Prado gets a win and like you said, is more fired up to come back. Does it really boost confidence to do good at a mudder- false confidence maybe but not like outright beating everyone on a dry track, or when a bike breaks or someones taken out by the clown show. . Back on hard dirt Jett again rises to the top, and thats boring watching him with a 10 second lead all the time. Muds the equalizer we need at a time one guy dominates everything. So right now - yep we need more mudders. Heck next mudder Deano might win.
The problem with the mud aside from the fact that they suck watching the best in the sport barely making it around a track and not able to see them jumping the rhythms which is part of it, is that riders get fucked by bike issues that they can’t control. Shimoda just had his whole sx season fucked because the mud fucked his bike up and couldn’t finish. If a track is so bad they can’t even jump, it should be postponed. Nobody wants to watch the best guys in the world at sx sitting down, rolling jumps, and falling over going 1mph. That shit is boring
I went to the event, I usually show up for all the practices, this time I didn’t even bother and just showed up at 5. Was hoping for it to stay light rain or stop raining but it just got worse and worse I had to head out before the 450 main I had enough, my whole family was soaked the racing was too boring to stay for it. I’m hoping they can get these Bay Area races in later in the season somehow cuz the oracle park is really cool especially it being right on the water. And parking was $60 which sucked. At least in Oakland you can park literally at the stadium with no walk for $40
As someone who did go to San Francisco this year, I disagree wholeheartedly with the statement of San Francisco sucks and doesn’t deserve a Supercross because the homelessness around the entire area of that Oracle park is nonexistent. The only downside to that entire stadium is the half a mile that you have to ride your bike between the track and the pit and the fact you have to wash your bike Before you leave the track to go to your pit. As a fan, there’s always a potential to have a mud race no matter where you go because if you go to East Rutherford, if you go to Philadelphia, if you go to Foxboro if you go to Nashville, any of these East Coast races that don’t have a dome, you have a chance for a mutter no matter the time of year because of the time of year that all these races are held. They are all held between January and May, and from January to May, you have any chance in the world for rain. I think as a fan, I love San Francisco, having the chance to host because I’m from Norcal so having this race, two hours away from me is amazing. I don’t have the money to go to any other race so when I get the chance to go to this race, it’s great. The only other closest race to me is Arena across in Reno so I appreciate Phil doing what they’re doing. The race was actually very good considering the mud. I was there from 3 to 830 which was when the checkered flag flew. I enjoyed every second of my day.

Going to San Fran at a later date would make sense unfortunately there’s not much of that these dazzzz. Just look what happened to the streets of San Francisco once great city reduced to the woking dead. @ 63 yrs old we were at east Rutherford Last year & stayed to the end it was a crazy ending to the day and we loved it.
Sometimes I’ll sign up for a motocross race then if it rains I’ll say fk it cuz it’s too risky with all the injuries I’ve racked up..but I digress. 🤷♂️😂
I know im refering to East coast but they pull Tampa off the schedule but San Francisco was a disaster! Also they should bring back the back to back in a roofed arena. Remember Pontiac Silvedome? That was epic and maybe Ford field 2 times!
They should do SoCal and then go to Arizona. Stay in the southern states during winter unless its a covered stadium. You're right about SF. It sucks... As far as Friese is concerned, that guy made his bed... He knows exactly what he is doing. If you keep doing what you're doing, you'll keep getting what you're getting.. He's gonna have to change his ways before he gets any respect.
If the weather had been good, SF would have been amazing right there on the water. I agree that if there were two Anaheims back to back, people would choose one.

@@brandonfleet9908 For sure, but the population in the bay area is huge. It would be weird if they had to go to SLC or LA or Seattle to see a race in person, but it's understandable why someone from a place like Sioux Falls (or something) might have to go far to see one.
Off-Road dudes (Hare Scrambles, GNCC, Enduro, Sprint Enduro, Hard Enduro) are like "Hold my beer). That race was bitchin! Might wanna turn in that Man card.
I like the idea of coming to AZ round 2. The race can definitely be held in Glendale, the Cardinals won't need their stadium for the playoffs anytime soon.
I hope to never return to SF. Parking and trying to navigate around the stadium area was a disaster. The tents of homeless camps lining the sidewalks weren't too appealing either.
I live in Northern California. San Francisco is terrible anymore. They want you to wash your bikes off but there is human feces all over the sidewalks from homeless.
Don’t get me wrong, I can’t stand the city of SF. But speaking for NorCal guys we need a NorCal round. Not only that but New Jersey was rainy last year so the avoiding the rain argument is kind of silly. It’s a winter sport.. These teams travel all over the United States, traveling from SoCal to NorCal isn’t breaking the bank for these teams. Sure it’s harder on the privateer guys but you could argue there were some NorCal privateer guys that only race the West Coast rounds.

You're overstating the usual rain in SF. It's not half the days in January. They average 11 days with rain in January and not all of those are a lot of rain.
Yeah in my military days I hated going to San Fran. It was terrible and always raining. We were lucky to not have had a mudder in a few years but now it is the California Supercross series. Thanks for recommending Strapped Cooksey got some shirts and goggles from them and they are awesome! Good stuff!
St.louis ,Houston,,arizona,all west all domes also LA has a new dome. I saw a show some guy has a sewer drain outside his building and he put a trap on it and captured some where near 1000 needles and the camera people filmed people crapping and pissing on the sidewalks and shooting g up and you could see the stadium in the near back ground so SF c an suck it about the mud
I went to the mud race last year at MetLife where they had to delay both main events and it was the best race I’ve went to but that’s just my opinion I love riding in the mud I get the part of it being tough on the bikes but this ain’t soccer the best rider should be able to ride in the mud
