Well, the intelligence gap is widening an insane amount. The standard deviations are larger while the average remains relatively flat because now people/students/workers who are proactive, curious, and self-driven now have the tools and mediums to absorb way more knowledge than we ever could have before. Productivity and intelligence gaps naturally just feeds into the wealth gap. Now stupid people spend more time doing nothing as they've always done, cept in today's world they have to do 100x more to compete.

When you look up past national science award winners, they come from all walks of life. Kids from every ethnicity can excel if we adults enable and provide for them - if we BELIEVE in them. Make no mistake though, a common denominator is that they are raised by good parents. Sometimes there is only one, as with Dr. Ben Carson who became a brain surgeon and was raised by a single mom. There are other fine people among us, like Condoleeza Rice. She endured terrible racism and watched a black church burn when she was a child; and still she excelled in college and in world leadership. At the same time she became a concert pianist. Our children face a daunting world, and social media is a cancer for them. Perhaps no single person has a solution to making their world better, but if we talk about societal cancer and become aware - then maybe we can make good decisions at the voting booth to protect them and give them seeds of nourishment.

@theotheleo6830
@theotheleo6830 Год назад
In the thumbnail, she's standing in front of an average home, not a mansion. The green house next door appears to be on the smallish side, so her house is likely approx the same size. I doubt the parents are super-rich, or even close to rich. She may have been awarded financial aid.
@randomsh-t917
@randomsh-t917 Год назад
@theotheleo6830 Median home price in that area is $2.7 million. $60k a year is doable for committed parents. Nevertheless, great job for an exceptional girl.

Man I need to find an actual scientific explanation for what she did because these three bumbling idiots couldn't explain how microwave popcorn works if they tried. I mean I got the method based off her chart, it's the transit method that has found most of the planets out there, but I'm curious what her coding did to make sifting through data go quicker, she says she used a "cheap GPU" (does that even exist anymore?) so maybe something that uses a lot of cores all at once instead of the traditional 1.

It would have been a great story if the student came from a poor family who is attending a poor public school with sub-standard teachers. A private school with $60K per year tuition is expected to produce talented students, otherwise what is the point in sending them kids to such school?

No other 17 year old accomplished what she did. She is not a "product" of her school. She is an extraordinarily talented individual, who likely worked extremely hard to achieve what she has. If her story doesn't fit some fantasy in your head, that is entirely your issue, not any shortcoming of hers.
