Thank you for the review. Got the budget version and its an amazing piece for the price. Finish and quality for the price can't be beat. Great everyday piece though I have other pieces in my collection.

I absolutely love this piece. I've had it for 2 years. The bracelet is great, I swim with it everyday. It's become a go-to.

What i found, i recent months they reduced the number of links provided with the 017. before i also noticed that newer models come with fewer links by default. But with the 017, i had one a while ago and needed to remove links and now it was a too snug fit on my 8 inch wrist, with a new version I purchased last sale. In regards to the lined bezel, they once stated that they don’t like fully lumed bezels, whatever that means; except for we won’t get fully lumed bezels as much as we like… Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the kind comment. It's a shame to hear about the links. Did you get in touch with San Martin for some extra links by any chance? I would be keen to hear more about your experience.

Great to see homages improve in the latest years. If i waited a little i could've got a better bracelet and clasp now

The budget version GB is just better. The wristband tapers more, it's lighter, and the date window is magnified perfectly. You're really just paying extra for screws in the links or prefer silver on the bezel insert rather than white. Maybe you can barely see and you just love looking at the date then the upgrade is for you.

How will you know if the one for sale is a normal or budget?

Hey mate, solid review. You're the first person to mention the fact that the SN017 is available in two different models (normal vs budget). Do you know what the specific differences are between them?
@watchcrave
@watchcrave 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for the comment. I don't have the budget version so this may not be 100% correct, but I believe there are very minor differences in the dimensions (e.g. 40.5mm vs 40mm in case diameter). The next difference is the bezel insert, both are ceramic, but the new one seems to have slightly deeper engraving for the markers, and the paint is more silvery. In a way I think the bezel insert on the budget version is nicer than the normal version. The next difference is the bracelet. The normal version has screw links, and tapers from 20mm-16mm. The budget version has a pin & collar system bracelet, and it tapers from 20mm-18mm. The clasps also look a bit different, but both are same button pushed with 4 micro adjustments. When buying the watch, you can check the model number to spot the difference. SN0017-G (normal) vs SN0017-G-B (budget). Both versions are excellent choices, and it really boils down to whether you want to save some $ and don't mind messing around with the pin & collar bracelet. If you're going for the budget version, I recommend grabbing a watch toolkit that has the hammer tool. The tools provided by San Martin helps with removing the pins, but not with putting them back on.

@@watchcrave It's correct accept that the budget version tapers more than the upgrade. I think you have that part backwards.

Just purchased in black, with green bezel, for £113.00. That's a steal, and as I have quite a few SM's already, I know it'll be very good quality. Really enjoyed your review, thank you, and I have subscribed.

For me it was the 017, 019 or the Cronos Sub homage. I ended up going with the Cronos after a short email conversation with San Martin's excellent customer service. I didn't want the 017 because I was looking for a high beat movement and the 019 looked like it might be too large for me. AS it turned out, current 019s have much wider end-links than those on either the 017 or the Cronos. I *think* it was nearly 54mm effective L2L (some nice guy at SM actually pulled a watch from their warehouse, measured it and sent me pics) and that would've been too much, I think, for my 17cm wrist. BTW: The Cronos' dimensions are all very close to the 017's as far as I can tell. Another reason why I didn't want the 017 is the rehaut which, I think, is too prominent, even when looking straight at the dial. It's almost as if it is slightly wider at the top/glass side than towards the dial. The one on the Cronos is also a bit too high, but it seems more "straight" and thus less visible when looking down at the dial. To be honest, I almost felt bad for not buying SM after the customer-service guy went out of his way to confirm the dimensions for me. Plus I already owned another SM (0109) and was/still am very impressed with the quality of that watch.

Thanks for sharing! Good to know that the 019 has a bigger effective lug to lug. 52mm is usually my max, so I doubt I'll ever get the 019 now 😂.

@@watchcraveYeah.. the problem was (still is? not sure) that they don't necessarily update all their product info when they change certain details on their watches. IIRC, the 019 used to have the same effective L2L as the 017 and a bracelet that tapered down to 16mm. Both of which they changed at some point (newer 019 bracelet has wider links and only tapers to 18mm) but they hadn't bothered to update all of their specs on most of the stores I checked. That's why I contacted them to confirm - and even the SM-guy initially told me the older specs and was quite surprised when he measured the watch and found things had changed.. :)

What is a difference from budget and normal version?

Some small differences in case dimensions, but it's mostly down to the bracelet.

Just received a San Martin I purchased for the wife. I have two of the old style with screw in pins in the bracelet. Sizing this for her small wrist was a night mare. The new system is cheap and ridiculous. Each link has a sleeve, and a push pin that goes in. The sleeve automatically falls out each time a link is removed. The pins are a Bear to remove. Nearly just sent it back.

I like the new phrase for "fake" or "copy" - homage🤣 I find it interesting that the only detail separating this watch from a Rolex Submariner is the logo.
