Thanks so much for bringing so many briliant people together. I loved the story of Aaron where his friend said I am not going to church anymore. Loss of feeling and emotional connection reminds me of when Rumi also went through the same things and he said mecca is in your own heart. It is not a place that is wholly but the wholeness is within you.
I'm glad you liked my story. I'm not so familiar with Rumi, but great thoughts. The sad part of this story is my friend - who I worked with, rented a room from, talked to nearly every day or saw for many years cause he was my best friend, so I knew him well - is not so good when it comes to self-awareness. Horribly so. That is why I remember this event in our 20+ year friendship so well. Yet, today he still hasn't figured it out that its an issue with emotion. His thing is: I just need to read another book and then maybe ... maybe.

It's interesting how our paths can diverge in terms of self-awareness and emotional connection, even among close friends. Rumi often emphasized the importance of looking within for understanding and fulfillment, rather than seeking it externally. I can relate to your experience. I also have a dear friend who seems lost and struggles to take proper action for his mental health. It's challenging to watch someone you care about not recognize the underlying issues and continue searching for answers in the wrong places. Sometimes, looking within is all that's needed, and you don't need to read another book. Your story shows this journey of inner exploration and the challenges that come with it. @@DrMortezaChalak Learning to balance heart and head, bhakti and jnana, self-awareness and not caring, were probably some of the biggest hurdles I had to overcome in my life. (I'm 47 now, my friend is now 65-ish and he's no where near being self-aware ... sad, cause he's a musician, intellect, will literally give you the shirt off his back, artist, but almost all his friends now take him in small doses as his conversations haven't changed. Its sad.). I had someone once say to me she never met a human robot, cause I had no emotions surprisingly so for someone who read a ton of books and was an artist and musician. She wasn't right, but I tucked them away. I didn't want to be all "feelies" (and this was before that word was in vogue), but also didn't really want to face myself. I wasted a lot of time trying to be something I wasn't, someone that would impress others. Then I moved abroad and suddenly those folks I was trying to impress? 1000's of miles away and didn't matter. Wake up call! Self-awareness I talk a lot about on my channel. .... We recorded Part 2 of this roundtable last night. We get into some of these topics more. If you have a chance to watch it was a great talk.

Quoting from shastra is important and so is understanding the essence of the shastra! Both are just as valuable as each other. In fact, does Sri Krishna tell us just to follow shastra in the Bhagavad Gita? He instructs us to have our own experience, follow bhakti, karma and dhyana yoga aswell as Gyana yoga!
@@TheBeardedMysticPodcast I would not first check myself one by one which is the most tasty dish among many dishes..rather I will ask an experienced person which is best and have it.. similarly as you said if krishna gives options to many ways for elevation to highest perfection..but at the end if he concludes and gives us the best and most supreme method (bhakti) 18.65-18.66 ..I will take that..shastra is there to guide me and guru is there..I am conditioned soul I can't just ignore the scriptures and have my own experience..who will take so much trouble when authorised representatives of God guru is there to guide me..he will guide me through shastra..I don't have enough time to speculate and experience on my own because I am conditioned..hare krishna

Upanishad is invoked to declare the existence of Hare Krishna Mahamantra, why is it not chanted in the given way? It starts with Hare Rama... and not Hare Krishna... Why have some traditions reversed the order?
A few impressions, always heartfelt: It’s not that we cultivate devotion IN our daily lives; we cultivate devotion AS our daily lives-in every movement of mind and body. We do so until the illusory self (and by extension, all other selves) leave no one to receive love and no one to give it. Everything is then seen clearly as an expression of the divine itself-One without other. 2. Until we see clearly, meaning personhood still “exists,” remembrance, as you say, is fundamental: we remember to stay only with what is real and not be carried away by the unreal. This requires effort-a willingness to stay centered in the heart and bring oneself back to inquiry each and every time we apparently depart. Liberation is possible but not probable for most. Self-realization is an enormous step in the direction of freedom yet in itself is only a recognition that we have falsely imprisoned ourselves. Freedom from all desire and all lamentation is rarely achieved. The path is not only difficult but extremely painful. That said, self-realization is already a very difficult recognition to achieve. Centered in the heart, we discover without doubt the path home. This may be enough for one lifetime! One observation about total devotion to scripture: absolutely no combination of thoughts is ever “The Truth.” All notions are false, and words are folly. There are many scriptures from many faiths. When we wed ourselves to one faith practice, we run the risk of pride, of attachment, to judgment and criticism. The master is ultimately indifferent. All scriptures are left behind. Yes, sink into the scriptures; they often represent the best that words can do. But then it’s time to see oneself AS scripture; and here lies total freedom. We must be very careful not to venerate lest we fall prey to dogmatism and nearsightedness. To kill the Buddha honors the Buddha. ❤🙏

Is not philosophy but mental speculation written down in books and shared with others? So, being a philosopher is better than speculating, though isn't that all Karl Marx or anyone else did - speculate? So, what you're saying is Marx is not injurious to spiritual life, even though he's anti-religion, but someone who is mentally speculating and might be pro-religion is injurious to spiritual life. Also, why is western philosophy better? Why not Eastern Philosophy? So, you're saying Marx is better than Confucious or Dogen? Your statements are confusing. you seem to be doing a lot of mental speculation. LOL
Thank you Dave ji for your insights here. 1. Love your point about devotion as our daily life! Very nice! And i agree devotion is truly when there is no 'me' and no 'you'. This is supreme devotion. 2. Love this point about the remembrance. 3. Yes - for everyone who realizes their true self atleast intellectually will experience some peace for sure. This recognition is certainly important. But i may challenge the 'painful' aspect. This may not be the case for everyone. I definitely had to deal with pain but unless some situation arises in the moment, I don't really find that self-realization or knowing one is Brahman brings pain but in fact gives a joy like no other. A very intoxicating joy. But yes, whatever progress someone makes in a lifetime, is a blessing in itself. 4. I am with you on the total devotion to scripture and agree with every point of yours. Once you understand your true nature, that is the only scripture that remains. In fact, it is beyond sound and silence. Therefore, devotion is to the Truth. Not conceptually but as the living reality that only is. Again, thank you Dave ji!
there is no mental speculation when one is able to discern practically, partly thanks to the scriptural knowledge and the guide that helps us get there. Even scripture is a bunch of thoughts. What do scriptures point to? Tat Tvam Asi - You Are That! This is to be experienced, not just recited or read or memorized. We have to discover it as our true nature.
