I was so tense every time he stood over the female.

Yesterday I was at work and there was a little adorable zebra jumping spider walking on one of the packages. My co worker was about to kill it but I let it crawl on my arm and taked it outside. Nobody’s going to kill my favorite spider species because zebra spiders are the coolest and cutest crawlies ever.

Just so you know, I've seen on some spider forums that takes a little bit longer for Sicarius spiders to produce egg sacs. As long as 14 months in very rare cases, but just be aware in case it takes a little bit longer than normal.

Im literally watching for two reasons. 1: For some reason it was on my recommendations and im trying to get over my fear if spiders-

I just wanted to say thankyou for giving me an entirely different outlook on these amazing creatures! I have been absolutely terrified of spiders all my life due to having multiple comedically traumatic experiences with them growing up. When I was about 8 years old I was washing my face at the sink, I had bubbles in my eyes and so I cupped my hand under the tap and splashed the water into my face. little did I know there was a huge house spider hiding in the tap and so I ended up throwing it in my face along with the water.. Later on in life, aged 10, my mother had her dressing-gown on, a large house spider crawled out of it and up her chest, she panicked and threw it on the floor. leaving her son traumatized by her nakedness and this huge spider that was running across the floor... My fears followed me up until about 5 months ago when I started watching your videos. my fears began to turn into curiosity, and then into fascination. I now own two tarantulas of my own ( Green Bottle Blue and Mexican Fire Leg) and most recently I was able to remove a large house spider from my home using my bare hands ! very proud moment lol. Anyway I am probably not the only person that your videos have helped with overcoming this ridiculous fear! and so I'd like to say thankyou. Oh and one more thing, your content quality is actually amazing! and the aesthetics to your setup is very pleasing to watch. I wish DarkDen all the success that comes your way.

It seems like the spider is trying to hide multiple times, but it's unable to burrow into stones. Half of the enclosure is filled with small-medium sized stones and it made me very uncomfortable. Every video I've seen with sand spiders, they are housed in extremely fine sand.

That scratching around he was doing in the first enclosure is part of how they find and attract a mate. It can take hours or just minutes sometimes days😂

Sand Spiders are so adorable when they're burying themselves. They pop out so fast it looks like teleportation and not just jumping up out of the sand. I don't know if I could ever own one, but I love watching videos about them.

Yes the 6 sided sand spider is venomous, be advised there is no antivenom you could die, the reason a lot of people keep them in the pet trade is they can't climb the glass. If she lays a sac good luck separating the slings.

When he was talking about the "wound" the bite causes, the effect is called necrosis, it's when tissue dies because of a toxic substance.

Their venom has 2 effects on the body. The one you were thinking of is necrosis: this is were the skin/tissue rots away around the bite leaving those nightmare fuel type wounds. The other effect of their venom is it makes your red blood cells burst, which makes it so that oxygen isn't delivered to vital organs. This species has some of the most powerful venom in the world, however they are very unlikely to bite due to reliance on their camouflage. Hope this helped ^_^

It's amazing how versatile those plastic tubs are. I use them for my tall 40K Minis, and my son's Lego. Never considered using them too store spiders lol Cheers from Canada!

The female that wasn't entirely hidden was that way because the sand is WAY too coarse. These spiders need to be housed in extremely fine sand to avoid injury and to allow them to hide properly and make them feel secure

There's a 6-eyed sand spider specialist on one of the RU-vid sites. I'm sure you can find him without my help if you're interested. He demonstrates with a glove (not with his bare hand) how unaggressive they are. Of the three spiders he tapped even on their fangs, none tried to bite him. He says their venom is the worst in the spider kingdom. It not only causes local lesions; a second function of the venom is much worse: it destroys our blood cells faster than our body creates them, which results in the failure of many of our vital organs. In other words, in death. But there are no confirmed deaths by this spider. (One unconfirmed, which may or may not be relevant.) So this man concludes that the spider is extremely toxic but not very dangerous at all.

Good spider keeping. but one thing you need to know. That you only put sand for this spiders in their house. If you wanna place small stones then please put them on the corner side. But if you still like to spread stone. then please place really really small stones. The size of male spider stomach.They just love plain sand and love to hide.

This species of sand spider has a bit of a weird schedule... During the day, they mostly (sort of) sleep, waiting for prey and pouncing... Though at night, they are far more active... Night time is when the males and females actually mate with each other, while the males hunt and search for a female during the day... The Females just don't want to mate during the day, probably because night time means they are harder to see, so they are much safer when doing the fun thing...

I am watching this video reading the article Herbert W. Levi, "Predatory and Sexual Behavior of the Spider Sicarius (Araneae: Sicariidae)", Psyche: A Journal of Entomology, vol. 74, 1967. The article says that the male makes digging movements with his front legs and then digs out the female, starting with her booty, and then with sudden movement turns her towards himself. It is interesting to what extent this will correspond to the video.
