@@wren4now904yeah saying “I’ll never tell you” not a lie in any way. It is in fact a true statement. If you said “I don’t know” that would be a lie same with trying to change the subject or talking about how you would never lie to anyone or something. The lie of omission is all about implication. If the person is not under an impression that is false due to your actions you are not lying to them. So if they know that you know and that you will not be providing that information you have not given them a false impression of the situation.

And again, I think it comes down to what they say on what Deceit is itself. Self-preservation. If you say that you won't tell them directly, it will incite aggression at the least from the murderer. And when you don't have means to defend yourself like superheroes in movies (who often say things like this to villains directly at the start of a conflict), telling them a lie may be the only way you escape. So I think the argument falls apart intentionally when you're talking about lying for others, but not when you're lying to protect yourself. I also think it's easy to say we wouldn't do something until we're actually in the situation ourselves. This is why psychopathic murderers threaten with questions like this, because it works. Someone is likely going to be afraid of what will happen to them later if they lie or now if they don't tell them anything, so they tell the truth. Logic isn't applied in the same way when you're in a life or death situation. So it's really proving that our morality is situational, which is both a good and bad thing at different times. Danger is important to keep in mind, but so is the danger of others. The reason why absolutist points like Kant's are so commonly examined I think is to provide extremes from which to pit against other absolutist perspectives in more nuanced situations. Pointing out their flaws is how we come to understand our own and other people's perspectives, not necessarily to decide who's right or wrong. That's how I look at it as someone who has little experience with philosophy at least.
