For an [old] beginner like me this is fantastic. I think an appropriate analogy would be when you first learn three chords on a guitar, from this early stage you can, almost immediately enjoy playing music. The best video for beginners I've seen so far, thanks very much.
After 44 years of guitar playing I've had to give up because of serious osteo arthritis in my left wrist. I've started learning harmonica and lap steel, and incidentally enjoyed myself more than I have in years. I love this video and had hours of fun playing around with these licks ... and I'm afraid I've fallen in love ... If I was 30 years younger ;-)
This is an epiphany …. thanks soooooo much … and hot damn you got talent … love your playing, your feeling, and your voice and how you teach and your personality … 10 out of 10 to me.
I always wondered why it's called draw rather than the more obvious suck, but your pipe joke answered that question. I can't believe I hadn't noticed that ! I'm going to start calling my vaporiser Sandi. Great lesson too ...
Excellent feature and......It's nice to know Sandi that you can take the time to show us non musical beings the rudimentary steps to learning basic music.....Thanks Keith
HI guys thank you for all the lovely comments and so sorry I've not responded in AGESSS!!!! Just shout me if you need any help with anything ok!! Big Love ST xx
I gotta say. I'm mighty impressed with your simple effective lesson. I've been playing for years and it took me a long time to figure out the I'm A Man Lick. Great lesson.
Not blaming the instrument but praising a higher quality instrument that will sound a little better with a little less effort. I enjoy playing what I can afford which are Hohner Rocket Aps and Hohner Crossovers that I adjust the reeds gaps for my style of playing before the first play. The reason I don't play Danneckers is the additional cost of repairing the damaged reeds that come along with frequent playing.
ive watch so many guys taking about 12 bar blue they don't get to the point drag out for over 15 mins I still don't get point n lose instest but your vlog got me understand what you are saying n playing the blues thank you very much new subscriber I`ll ckeck out your .com to
I know this is not the video to post this. But I'm just filled with excitement to find you have your own personal youtube harmonica tutorial! I wish I was a punkrocker is one of my all time favorites, thanks for that!
Yeah that took me a while to get used to. Playing "straight" (C on a C harp) isn't very interesting. You play in a different key, and bend the heck out of the reeds to fill in the tones missing from the scale. If you're playing in the right cross-key, this puts all of the "power" notes on draw, which is where the magic happens.
My thanks for a really nice lesson presented very well by an obviously talented musician. In fact, before I watched the clip I never would have even thought that is were even possible to play 12-bar on a harmonica?
I yea, "On the day I was born, my momma threw me outta da howse, I had no place to go, went to the bus station and slep on the flow." Loved your lesson. Let's funk it up...
hey Sandi , all is great! try to look into the camera lens not to the screen . the lens as you know is in the top of your pc screen but you always forget to look into it and you look down to the screen itself
Thanks Sandi really great I'm just learning very helpful. "Wished you had kept singing though" One thing though I can't get enough volume can you turn something up for your voice because other than that it was good for me !! Thanks again!!
This has o be one of the most helpful videos I stumbled upon being a beginner! A little suggestion though, you should try adding a little visual help on screen, I would love being able to pause and practice !
You're a magnificent musician and have a lovely singing voice. This lesson is great, however, it would be helpful if some tabs were provided or you explained how you're transitioning between the components. I believe you start with the first, then go to the second, and then back to the first, but then when you go into and out of the third I get lost. I'll try to figure it out. Thanks though!!! Fun...!!!
Thank you for the very cool basic harmonica blues lesson. I am just beginning to play the harp and I get out of breath very very quickly, and light headed. Not fun. Any recommendations on how to stop the light headedness? Am I doing something wrong? Thank you. Rob
