Thanks for posting this Sandisk device. I've always bought from Sandisk, and was interested in this for my iPhone, and found you/it on RU-vid. This is my first video of yours. Now Subscribed!! You can always hear an RC car zooming about in the neighborhood. So yeah an external storage video also got me to look at your RC videos. ☺️
ART CHOTIPRADIT Thank you for checking out the video! It is a device that has served me well. it's not for everyone, but it worked for what I needed it for. I hope you enjoy the rc videos. I post at least once a week so make sure to check them out. Also thanks for the sub, will return the favor. have a great weekend!
works great, I got the 128gb version. Make sure that you get the 64 or 128 gb version if you have any files (that are over 4gb in size) the smaller version of this won't allow files larger. It will copy photos and videos from your iphone and will play the videos and photos that you put on the iXpand from your computer. I love it because it will work with the Otterbox Defender case.
Thanks, Flash. I just bought it to clean up my iPad Air. And, I wanted to hear what someone who really knew this stuff had to say about it; you fixed me up. Thanks again! Oh, just FYI, for the purpose of uppy professional of how you may ever want to sound, “anyways” is not really a word. Everybody, or most everybody seem to be using it, but in the professional arena, you’ll sound better just saying “anyway,” or “nevertheless.” Hey, I’m not dissing you at all, bc you do a great tutorial, and, if you like it, you keep saying it, this is YOUR thing. Im am old lady, or to you I would be. lol, and I admire what you do. I wanted to do RU-vid, I was not right for it. So, you GO, man! Keep up the good work! Ppl like me NEED YOU and your expertise. I subscribed, & I’ll be back. I’m guessing maybe if I say good luck, I’m saying it to a fellow Texan?? 😁😎🤖🙌👍
Hi Liz, thanks for the tips. RU-vid is a beast to get right and I am always trying to develop my skills to create better content. And yes you are correct! I am a Texan in Houston. =) Thanks for stopping by and checking out the video.
Excellent review. You covered the unboxing. Loading of the app. By passing the autobackup and going to pick what you need to back up (or simply copy) on the iExpand. Then you transfer to your laptop. This is exactly what I want to use the iExpand for...simply to take the files off my iPhone and bridge to my PC laptop. Many of the other reviews spent too much time on using it as a video storage device to view vids. Thanks for covering what I needed. You cat seemed to by enthused...so is mine! 🙂🐱
I didn't see it in the comments below, but you can take pictures using your iPhone from within the app, and the photos will be saved directly to the SanDisk. I plan to use this feature for an upcoming vacation since my iPhone 6S doesn't have any storage left on it for photos.
My biggest hassle with my iPad is, not being able to play videos unless I convert them to MP4. I'd like to know if purchasing the Ixpand will give me the ability to play any videos on my iPad and stream them to Chromecast if I like. THANKS!
Well that's a bummer... glad I didn't waste 60 dollars to find out as I would have absolutely no other use for it, but I got a bit exited for a while 😞
Hi ,I recently bought IExpand mni 128GBAfter transferring pics and video from my IPhone 8,I played on my laptop, I was able to view the pics(JPEG) but as for the video, I could only hear the audio(played on media player or QuickTime .The video files are named as video.MOVCan you explain why it cannot be played back on my laptop and what needs to be done to rectify this issue.Thank You
at the beginning you said you can not store documents on the device and found that rather strange. But a little bit later it showed back up your iPhone (or other device). If you back up your original device to the scandisk device, then you would be backing up documents, games and other apps. not just photos and vids and music. IF you can really back up EVERYTHING, can you play games on the scandisk or do you have to play the games on your ORIGINAL device? Of all the various videos I have seen of the many flash drive devices, nobody has covered everything in detail showing what can and cannot be done. Nor do they cover the Pros and Cons of the device. I would like to see a hands on demonstration of the device showing what it can and cannot do. I want to see complete detail and full disclosure, so I know if it is something I would like. You did reveal a weakness in the iXpand scandisk and that was the "J" format design had to go over the screen. So probably if you had an otterbox on your Iphone this product would not work because of the "J" design.
So to answer your question. Yes it can hold documents, but the idevice isn't always able to read the files. It will show on the ixpand app, but i have found that if you are using office 365, it will read them. I would say for the the biggest con is the j design because if you have a case, it will not fit and also that you cannot record slow motion video on the ixpand app.
Are you filming this video with your iPhone? De quality is insane. Do you use lenzes or do anything in the editing software that make it look so clear?
I used my Samsung Galaxy S6 Active. I use an editing program called filmora to edit, but I did not enhance anything. The video is straight from the phone.
Phones are excellent starters for youtube, of course you will have to upgrade at some point. I have been thinking about vlogging as well. Let me know when you start I will gladly subscribe.
Awesome man! I got an iPhone 6s so the video quality is great. I'm figuring it all out these couple of weeks and gonna do 2/3 test volgs first. I'll let you know when and how i'm gonna start!
What if i was running out of storage on my iphone, and i need to take a video , is it possible to take a video a directly save it to the externl storage?
Oh.. i see! One more thing! What if i want ti transfer my videos from the go pro app to the iphone, but iphone doesn’t have enough space can i directly save the videos from the go pro to the external storage?
I did purchase this I Xpand, but it just sits there and does nothing when plugged in....I have about 20k pics that i've been trying to download to it and just keeps saying copying files but never ends ;( I've tried with pics, a couple files and just selecting all and no good ....please let me know some tricks so I can move past this and get these pics off my iPad mini soon. tysm
did you find out if you can transfer music from your device to the iXpand? I have a ton of music on my iPad that I need to back up but I don't have a computer at the moment and so it's really important that I can transfer all my music to this drive.
I have still not figured out how to do the music. It has the option for music, but when I put it on the device, my ipad does not read the music? Although I have not tried to save a song from my ipad and put it on the device. I can try that for you if you'd like.
1.The photos in the ixpand drive can be separated to groups? 2.And when viewing one image, whether another one need to be seen going back ward's to list or swipe left or right
The impression I'm getting for ALL of these devices, regardless of manufacturer, is that they're intended to move files from an iPhone or iPad to a PC/MAC, but I can't find anything that says I can use it to move files FROM the PC to the iPad or to the drive itself. If the app it uses - and they ALL use these apps - is only installable on an iPhone or an iPad, then how is it supposed to transfer anything from a PC or Mac?
In 2018 without using itunes, can i copy video files from this Flash Drive into an ipad, remove this Drive and play those in ipad? Sorry, I'm new to IOS & this lightning connector devices.
I have my photos on the scan disks. I want to transfer my photos from xpand flash drive 64 GB to my MacBook Air. Having problems getting my IXpand Flash Drive 64 GB to my desktop. All my photos are under no name file. Does this Mac Air have a photo file for importing my photos & designating it photos? I could not find one.
Do you experience problems on videos you copied from your phone to ixpand drive while watching it on your computer? Because all videos that i transfer from my phone to my ixpand drive becomes laggy when i watch it on my laptop.
I got the 128GB version and am just learning to use it. I set it to back up my camera roll (10,000 pics) and then found the "copy" function doesn't allow you to copy pics from the backed up camera roll to another device. I wanted to use it to transfer selected pics from iPhone to iPad for editing. I couldn't find a way around this so ended up "copying" the pics in the camera roll to the iXpand, so each file is now on there twice. Have you found a better way to use the iXpand to transfer files from iPhone to iPad?
Ishara Deborah Coulthard I am much like you and I shoot video on my iPhone and edit on my iPad. What I do is create a folder on the USB, save whatever it is I want to edit to that folder and then copy it to my camera roll on the iPad to edit. I will ad that if you are using iMovie, it will read the pictures on your device but not the videos for some reason.
How are the video transfer speeds from iPhone/iPad to usb like a 1080p 60 fps or 4K? And how does the record directly feature work and how do the videos come out?
After you transfer photos and videos from iPhone to xpand flash drive you can deleted all your picture from your iPhone to have more storage in the phone? Also Xpand flash drive 30 how many pictures and videos storage in the flash drive. How to set up languages I couldn’t find in settings.? Thanks good job 👏
Graciella E Jenkins yes it will all be stored and you can delete them. It gives you the option to do that automatically. The amount it can hold will vary on size you get. I’d say at least 1 thousand photos and couple hours of video. Not sure about the language. Should be in the settings.
I need to transfer powerpoint files to my iPad. I used Keynote to run them. Can I used the SanDisk Xpand drive to do this job? Please explain how to do this transfer.
Lots of info on videos and photos, but what about music? I saw something about it as you looked at the tutorial, but I can't see anywhere that tells me how. Thx.
Mine did not look exactly like yours but yours was helpful. But I want to put a couple of photos from ixpand back onto the phone (yes I deleted all).. Will you show how to achieve that? Also copies of some of my photos were copied into some special albums ( ie recent art work). I wonder how I could get those grouped together on the ixpand? Thanks so much.
I have had the same thing happen to me. Plug your device to your computer, go into the drive and find the pics you want and add them to the correct folder. As for putting the pictures back from the usb to your idevice. Just go into the ixpand app and, choose copy to device and select the pics you want to copy back to your idevice.
Thanks for the great tutorial. How long should it take do transfer about 3000 photos? Can I stop it while it’s in progress and resume later? Can I use my phone while it’s transferring files?
It shouldn’t take but a few minutes. Once you start the transfer you cannot pause it. You can cancel it or just pull the drive out, but I wouldn’t advise that since it can corrupt data. You also wouldn’t be able to use your phone since you have to stay in the app while transferring.
Iv got the Sandisk wireless and getting this device. One bad thing to the wireless is that if you stream a 4GB or more film the WiFi cant keep up making it useless for large files
Thanks, it's actually very fast as it uses usb 3.0, which technically you are able to get 5gbps transfer. I wouldnt say it transfers that fast, but it does handle large files fairly quickly.
Thanks for the reply, The usb 3 is for transfer to and from pc, the lightening is usb 2.0 apart from the iPad pro 12.9" which has usb 3.0, was wondering how fast it was copying from iPhone. thanks
I transferred all of my photos from my iPhone to this and plugged it into my laptop as my two-year-old knocked it out of my lap I watched it break in half. I am heartbroken and I don't know what to do. Can I fix this ?
Sorry to say that most likely the info is lost. There are agencies that can extract the data for you, but it is a costly thing to do. Have to tried to replug the device into either your computer or an idevice?
I can of course transfer videos onto it off my Iphone and then take my USB stick out right? I don't need to have it plugged into my iphone for when running low on space when shooting video right?
Hi! Which one is better, the wireless drive (the little square with wifi), or this one?? I read this only support format Fat-32 which only allows it to support 4GB files max. Is it true? Does the wireless drive have the same problem?
I wouldnt really be able to answer that question because I have not tried the wireless option. The biggest file I have transfered was 3gb and it transfered fairly quickly with no issues.
Flash Hobbies I'm afraid about the streaming thing... I want this for my ipad pro to watch movies, and I want a device with no lag when streaming. That's why I don't know which of them should I buy. It's frustrating.
Hey! I have a question: Can you store any kind of file? For example, a .psd or a .dwg? If so, can you then open these type of files with apps that support them like Procreate or AutoCAD 360? Can you send them from the iXpand app to iCloud Drive or Dropbox? I'm worried that I buy this flash stick and then I can't use my files in my iPad.
Alejo Miranda you can store any file on the drive, but I have had trouble when it comes to the iPad reading certain files. I have not tried any cad files, so I couldn't tell you with 100% certainty. I also have not tried using with the cloud but I will say that I have not seen a feature for cloud storage from the ixpand app, so I doubt it will work. Wish I could be of better help.
I have had a lot of difficulty with music that is not from itunes. I put music on the drive and copy them to the ipad and the ipad wont recognize them.
Flash Hobbies take all your music files and zip them up on your PC. Then rename the zip file using the same format as many cameras save photos. Important to your tablet. Move out of your photos directory using any third-party file manager. Change back to.zip. Extract. Move to your music folder. Voilà.
Hi I have a question, that's a pretty handy USB to backup photos, but will I be able to connect this to my Mac and download movies onto the USB to watch on my iPad?
also, let's say you recorded something on another idevice and want to view it on a different idevice, you can view it also, as long as its saved on the drive
hI. My wife uses an ipad, mainly for reading books. I often get asked to try & get movies for her to watch on the iPad. I have several thousand movies stored on my Windows PC in various formats, AVI, MP4, MKV etc. can I insert a USB eg 3.0 memory stick, loaded with mp4 movies, into this Sandisk ixpand hardware & watch the mp4 movie on the iPad?
I just did a little more research.....it will not stream DRM protected movies....in other words you can't watch any iTunes movies you have purchased when you store them on this device.
I don't get it, if it's only working one way from ipad to your computer, then why don't just use the lightning cable to transfer your data? i'm waiting for a flash drive that can directly transfer your photos or songs directly into iphone or ipad
My question is: Will it also free storage so that I can download app's. My phone only has 8gb, and I've had to constantly delete and replace app's, meaning that I've probably only had 5 apps maximum on the my phone at a time.
Hello wondering if the product is able to extract videos from an app like Files HD or any other browsers base app that lets you download a video from a website
If if i transfer photos/videos from my iPhone to the ixpand flash drive and delete the photos/videos from my iPhone, will I be able to transfer them back onto my iPhone photo/video library or will it only be able to play from the drive?
I understand that I can download pictures, film, or files from the iphone 6 S Plus to upload to my Mac or PC but can I download Film, pictures or files from my Mac or Pc to either view on my Iphone or upload to my iphone ? ~Thank you , Robert
Yes you can, where I have had trouble is with music. I can see and play the music, but have only been able to transfer some songs. Not sure if others are having that problem.
On one end of the ixpand is a USB plug that you can plug into your computer and transfer back and forth video and music. DVD movies you would have to convert to AVI or MKV files then should be able to play from the stick.
Great video dude. Thanks this helped. Can you save an iMovie project that has been finalized in iMovie to this device directly? Instead of saving it to the camera roll and copying it to the device. It would be much more convenient.
Miechol Canteros To be truthful, that was my main reason for buying this drive, but unfortunately, imovie is one of the apps that does not work with the drive. The project you are working on has to be saved on your device and saved to your camera roll. then you can transfer your finished project to the drive. imovie doesn't even recognize the drive when you are in the app. Hopefully the fix that in the future.
can u stick this memory card into your computer and transfer the files to a external HD? how long would it take to transfer about 128GB of video and photos on this thing?
ANDREW 24/7 if you are transferring from your computer it will go as fast as you port can write data. Most USB 3.0 will transfer between 30-60mb/sec. 128gb would take somewhere around 10 minutes or so.
hi flash hobbies.. i have a question.. is it possible for me to keep dis device connected to my iphone throughout vthout removing it..? and also wil it affect d battery..?? i heard from one my colleague that it was draining d battering very quickly and making d iphone heated up.. can u clear my doubt....
I have had this connected all day to an iphone and ipad and noticed no significant battery loss on either device. My batteries have never gotten hot from using it.
This device works until the iPhone 7 .... the sand disk iXpand Drive does not work with the iPhone X can not store the files or documents from the iPhone X to the memory sand Disk iXpand Drive usb3. It says it is not compatible when trying to save any file or document it says. The IXpand device you have connected uses an unsupported format ... I have been slow to fix the Firmware, and using another device equal to 3 and none of them support the iXpand Drive ... this is only for storage on the iXpand Drive because to read the device if it works ... in conclusion it is Infuncional , if you have an iPhone X and want to use the iXpand drive, do not buy it because it does not work or if you have the iXpand drive and want to update your iPhone (6.7) to the iPhone X, think twice before you get disappointed as happened to me that after having all the functionalities to download documents from the email, save them or send them by mail, swim in this you can do it ... wait until they update the compatibility of the devices oscardjd@gmail.com
Hello Donna, no, wifi is not required for anything other than just downloading the app and updates for the app and device. All transfers will be done without the use of any wifi.
