SANDMAN BUILD - Part 5 - STARTING THE SANDMAN FOR FIRST TIME!! 

This just had the memories flooding back. The nerves as you hit the key for the first time, all the while praying all those expensive parts all play nice together, and make the desired noises. I had the same miss trust of the oil pressure gauge, and didn't want to mess with the dash so I put a buzzer in. It really gets your attention if it goes off. Great vid guys, thank you.

Hey guys the easiest way to get oil pressure fast is pack oil pump with grease and fill oil filter with oil and you will get oil pressure straight away. Once hot and run camshaft in drain oil and put fresh oil in . Great job as always looks good.

Hey guys that type retainer allways lets the dizzy move at high rpm with that little retainer it will never move. They work the best cheers

Hi Guys, If you use a heater hose off a VL 5.0 litre commodore , the part number is Mackay CH 1687 . it has the pre molded bend that you need without requiring a additional join. Also, if you coat the oil pump gears with vasoline you'll have no trouble getting oil pressure on initial start up plus the vasoline melts into the oil (unlike grease) when the engine warms up. keep up the good work

Same thing happened to me a few years ago did a massive rebuild on my Hg kingswood driveline over 2 weeks, Literally only left the house twice for parts but towards the end it was feeling like ground hog day. Car wouldnt start for 2 days after i pulled nearly everything back apart to confirm it was working because 90% of the bolt ons for the engine were brand new. Was pulling my hair out big time as my annual leave was coming to an end and the last thing i wanted was to leave the car so close to the finish line.. Ended up going back go basics and starting fresh to see if i could figure it out and within 10 mins of resetting my thought process bamm leads were backwards 🤣 Car fired up and proceeded to smoke out the entire backyard and street with unburnt fuel in the exhaust

Saw the flames out the carby in the intro and knew you’d had a firing order issue. Been there a couple times now.

Add/pack Vaseline in oil pump between gears prior to assembly. Common problem after a freshen up. 👊🏽

I just did a cam job in a 304 and had the same issues, popping and banging and not starting. Turned out to be the dizzy out 180 and I was SUUUUURE I'd set it right but that sleep deprevation got me, came back fresh and saw the problem straight away. I've done this job dozens of times, I should have known better.....but you aren't thinking straight when your tired.

I have electronic dizzy on my 253, The coil I used was from a VS V8..

I seriously hope you don’t wipe a cam lobe gents…. Any ‘cam lube’ that was put on the cam lobes & lifters by the engine builder would have been well rubbed off with all that cranking…. Plus, when you get the engine running you need to bring the engine straight up to 2000-2500 RPM and ‘run the cam’ in for at least 20 mins. Good luck and time will tell if you wipe a lobe, especially with the crap quality of flat tappet lifters getting around these days. Good looking Panel Van 👍🏻

Bloody water pumps. If you get 18mths from one of the main brands, you are doing well. All new pumps are junk. It’s doing my head in.
