We visited Sandos Playacar in Playa del Carman, Mexico for the first time and here is our experience. This is the second Sandos location we visited as our first visit was Playacar's sister resort- Caracol:

Compared to Caracol, Playacar has a larger feeling layout. There was a shuttle that routinely transferred guests from one side of the resort to the next. The amenities at both resorts were amazing and I will say I'm looking forward to parasailing in Playacar. The weather prevented us from trying it this time around. I'm also looking forward to bringing the kids back to enjoy the water park area.

Thanks for the great video. Were the cabanas and beach beds in the elite section where kids are allowed or the "adult only" elite section?

The cabanas and beach beds are in the RE section- these are for royal elite (adults and children)- sandos version of a timeshare. Anyone can stay in the RE rooms but only owners have access to the RE amenities.

Our room was fantastic! We stayed in the adults only section fairly close to the beach and right across from the buffet. We had a king bed, mini fridge that is restocked daily, and a cozy balcony. We happened to be there on rainy days and were oblivious to the umbrella stocked in the closet! 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 The balcony overlooked the pool that actually had a DJ at certain times but we never even heard the music unless we stepped outside.

We actually found the blue macaroons in the premium lounge in the meeting point next to the theater area. That was our go to for our snacks. 😂

Thanks for watching the video! We did stay at Caracol last summer with the kids. Both resorts are fantastic. Caracol takes a less traditional resort feel with the open restaurants, open lobby, animals everywhere, cenotes you can swim in, mayan ruins on site, a traditional fire show and so on. Playacar is fantastic in the sense of a traditional resort. It provides more of the traditional night shows, standard water sports, beach sports, and excursions. In my opinion, it took a minute to warm up to Playacar. I felt it was a bit spring break-ish to start but I did warm up to the atmosphere before we left! We are currently trying to choose between these two resorts for our family of 6 (kids 11, 15, 17, 19) and I lean toward Caracol for the unique atmosphere but have concerns over the beach and food quality. Can you comment on those 2 things?

Thanks so much for the video! This was so helpful, as we are going this Christmas with our teenage children. Quick question and maybe I missed it, but can I pay to become a royal elite member ahead of time to enjoy the perks? I will do just about anything to get cabana style seating on the beach. Thanks again!

You are so welcome! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! The Royal Elite program is their version of a vacation club. I'm unsure that this status can be purchased before arrival but you can definitely sit through one of their meetings during ur visit and learn more about their program. We purchased with them last summer and are so incredibly happy with their program. For us, it helps us travel more and allows us to see places we've never thought possible.

@@EstradaFamilyAdventures Hey there, just wanted to share...Royal Elite members are the timeshare owners of the Sandos properties. Hotel guests can pay for an upgrade and they get all the same perks that we get. I do not know, sorry, the exact cost to upgrade.

Is there any shower/changing room by the beach?

This particular resort has a vast beach area so there are multiple locations depending on where you are. Specifically, there are outdoor showers by the waterpark area that you can glimpse in this video and there are bathrooms with changing areas just next to the pool area behind the outdoor dining. If you are down the beach a bit, it will be a small walk to get to those resources though but definitely much closer than walking to the rooms to change

Our direct commute was about an hour to Playacar. It can take longer if a bus is taken or a shared commute is opted for.

Hey could everyone use the hot tub or could you only use it when you booked and paid for a treatment?

The hot tub required a reservation to the hydrospa. We were able to book an afternoon visit at the spa but anyone visiting for a separate reason (massage/ facial) was able to use the hydrospa, including the hot tub, 20 minutes prior to their appointment time.

Are the floors slippery around the rooms/pool area? Sandos Eco was super slippery and we witnessed someone slip and hit their head hard

Yes they can be- I have actually found Playacar to be worse than Sandos eco around the main pool. The royal elite pools are definitely not slick at all which is where we spend the majority of our time at both resorts
