Sandwood Bay Hike, NW Scotland | The best beach in Britain? 

Loved the film and great to see the family all out walking together. Pretty sure the flies were "clegs" (or horseflies) and would agree that Sandwood Bay is ONE of the best beaches in mainland Scotland (but check out Sanna, Red Point or even Big Sand at Gairloch) but the very best beaches are out in the Hebrides - famously Luskentyre on Harris but others less well known on South Uist and Eriskay in particular!

Now that was a find! What a gorgeous beach and so quiet! 😍 just love Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Great video, that is the biggest jelly fish I have ever seen! I know what you mean about having a heavy heart leaving! We were there in October and it was so beautiful. I've just uploaded a vid of our walk, interesting watching the contrast in conditions. Glad the sun came out for you and am jealous of how little wind you had! Least we avoided the flies! Looked a fab family break Chris. That’s my kind of beach. Very quiet and golden sands. Not sure it’s in the same league as Blackpool or Skegness though 🤣🤣

Lovely video Chris, Great times with the Family. It might be the best beach in the UK for 2 days a year when the suns out up there. My dad is from Lewis there is some cracking beaches there, again weather permitting! Take care mate ATB-Phill

Lovely up there mate. Did the north coast 500 in the camper van at the end of may. Beautiful weather for a week. I was surprised too 😂 Dunnets bay, gairloch was lovely My 9 yr old girl and 7 yr old lad did really well due to the large amount of driving ( lots of films on the iPads.) I did have a lovely solo camp on the Peak District to recover lol)

Great trip out Chris and despite the protests the kids will remember this fondly one day. I've been to Sandwood Bay before and will be returning as part of a lads outing expedition in a few weeks (fast becoming an annual trip for me, NW Geo Park, Durness, Sheigra etc). Great beach but , 'in my opinion' not the best in W/ NW Scotland. There are hundreds of beaches on the West Coast and some absolute gems . IT could be argued that it is the best large/ wide beach? Certainly has a charm all of it's own and maybe that is helped by it's remotness.The beach is reported to be haunted by an anciant Sea Captain. I'm hoping those wee biting beasties and the Midge have disappeared by the time we venture out. ATB John

I'm glad the weather turned good for you all Chris, A great beach and we camped in those sheltered sheep folds when we passed through and also had great weather. Its certainly a great area and one I would love to get back too as twice planned to do Suilvan but plans thwarted. I think some kf my fav beaches are in Cornwall and the Outer Hebrides. All the best. Ohh and are you thinking of doing the CWT. 👍🍻🌞

Great to see you with the family Chris, looks like your having a good time, I’m up to Scotland in a cpl of weeks and might even sneak in a camp. Best beaches is a tough one, uig sand on Lewis was good last year, Plemont Bay on Jersey, Filey beach on a sunny day takes some beating, but my favourite up to this point is definitely Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire, another one that you have to walk to get to, it’s truly stunning and one of my favourite places on earth. Beautiful Beach...Certainly the best in Scotland :-) You should have camped the night and looked for the Spanish Ghosts looking for there treasure they threw overboard while they were trying to escape the English chasing them :-)

I've seen photos of this beach. Absolutely beautiful. I know that it's not accessible by car but would it be possible to cycle the route or is it just walking?
