The album presents the great maestro of the bamboo flute, Hariprasad Chaurasia. The first volume begins with raga Brindabani Sarang, an afternoon melody from the land of Lord Krishna. The artiste has rendered this expansive raga beautifully giving it a detailed treatment in an inspired alap-jod sequence followed by two sprightly gat - one in madhyalaya jhaptala and the other in drut teentala. This is followed by a thumri in raga Manjh Khammaj. Here the artiste has given the raga an embellished and lyrical treatment as is wont in thumri. The album concludes with raga Jhinjhoti, where the flutist has played a moving alap and madhyalaya gat set to the rarely used matta tala of nine beats. The second album begins with raga Desi Todi. The artiste has played this complex raga skillfully, which creates the karuna ras of tender compassion. It is followed by an alap and gat in raga Madhuvanti. The album concludes with the night raga Malkauns. The rendition is a masterly exposition revealing the various nuances of the raga.
