This machine was just completely destroyed, appears to have had a very hard life in a restaurant environment. These machines clean very well and when used in a proper setting like an office, school, or library they make excellent cleaners. I would not recommend one to be used to pick up food or organic type waste as this one has. Below are the individual parts I replaced.

These videos are great for combatting our throwaway society - good to see things being repaired and returned to work.

I’m a dock worker for Dillard’s and we use these vacuums, and I did something just like this! I was vacuuming in the mens department that day when I kept seeing these star bolts on the ground. I picked them up with my hand. I then heard a loud pop, and the vacuum stopped picking up. I realized the bolts I found hold the motor to the plastic base, and when the motor slid around as I was pushing back and forth, the fan hit the plastic base and exploded, damaging the plastic base, and a small part of the motor, but the motor still worked perfectly fine. We also had a dead vacuum that was the exact same model, so I tore it down for parts, and used the plastic base for the dead vacuum to fix the one that exploded. I also used more of those parts to fix 3 other vacuums too!

I found a Eureka from 1989, but the fan is destroyed, like it was vacuuming rocks. It's a pretty cool machine, very similar to this one. Thank you for making such a detailed video. This will help me save a lot of money repairing it!

Other than the bearing noise, it looks a lot better! Some people really abuse their vacuums and then complain why they don't work properly afterwards.

I wonder how hard it is to replace them
@mattjones7621
@mattjones7621 3 года назад
@@hanksgarage_ If you have a bearing/ gear puller and the patience, not too bad. You might can get by with cleaning them out and repacking them if you can gently pry the seals off. The third option is replacing the whole motor.

I’ll look into it some more. Repacking them is easy enough to give a try

Nice job on the SC886-E2. That particular model had also been made in types -A, -B, & -D. I believe the first 4 digits of the serial number, 0705, indicate production to be the fifth week (February) of 2007--not too old to rebuild. I understand that the current Chinese-built Sanitaires are not worth it due to their cheaper quality.

Nicely done! Particularly liked seeing you transferring the stickers over. This vid will be useful when I bring out my parents' old Eureka Commercial (I think it was from the 80's). I believe that some of the stuff you did here will be useful for reviving the old thing.

Seems like a lot of money invested in an old vac unless it is fairly expensive to begin with. Lot of work and time to fix it up but cleaned really well. Thanks for the video

Amazing how people treat their vacumns, I brought home the two upright machines that I mentioned to you awhile back and don't think they had been been cleaned since they were new,filters full of dust hair, carpet fresh you name it,a little work with the shop vac and they were ready to go, same with everything else, some cleaning and a new belt and they were good to go.

@@hanksgarage_ One was a Eureka Ultima and the other a Dirt Devil Power Max Pet, don't think it's too old because Walmart still sells them, evidently the roller had gotten jammed at some point because it burnt the belt in two, the Eureka needed nothing but a good cleaning,in fact I already sold it.

Nice video. Just had a new cord installed on a Sanitaire. Now the pivot arm (handle) drops to the floor when released, where it only dropped down 3/4 of the way before. Which is correct? Is there a spring that wasn't put back on during reassembly? Also, just curious, why did you elect to leave off the magnet bar from your new base?

Back in the day there were separate Style F and Style G bags - one was designed for use with cloth outer bags and the other for vinyl outer bags. Later, Eureka simplified by combining the two styles along with model id's.

I never knew people used Sanitaire vacuums in the home. I always thought they were meant for businesses and institutions for some reason.
@hanksgarage_
@hanksgarage_ 3 года назад
They have a “blue line” which are the consumer or home use variants but other than a color change and 2 wire cords there is little difference between the commercial units and the consumer ones.

I had a Eureka residential vacuum from the 1960's (was my Grandmother's) that is almost identical to these Sanitaries. Only difference was the color, outer bag, and it had 4 amps vs 7 amps on the commercial vacuum. That Eureka lasted for 40 years, was a third generation hand me down. Just bought a Sanitaire, and it really hasn't changed much, but why change something that works so well, I guess.
