Sanji is my favorite, but you got some big balls to put Sanji on a Vice Captain position, since the Zoro fans can be annoying as hell.

They don’t have a vice captain because they don’t do that hierarchy stuff. They just let who is most qualified deal with the situation.

Luffy and sanji are looking for something people consider a legend while other strawhats have a goal to achieve

The statement of "the vice captain is the embodiment of captain's dream" hit me deep because althought it's not yet confirmed, I believe One Piece = All Blue. Luffy's and Sanji's dream is same.

I have 2 disagreements: 1) For Zoro Luffy, as his captain, IS the authority. He pledged his life to him, obeys every command, and makes sure others remember who's the leader like he did in Water 7. Sanji is his equal, not in strength cus Zoro is slightly stronger, but in the position they share. They are like Dory and Brogy. Mihawk is more fit to be his rival. 2) Robin stated the Zoro and Sanji are Luffy's "wings". And it makes sense, because they compensate for each other's shortcomings: • Luffy's ambitions and ability to raly people around him are the driving force of the crew, but he's too easy going and naive. As more mature members, Zoro and Sanji help him make tough decisions. • Zoro is most serious, skeptical and down to earth of the three. He keeps everyone in check, and makes sure everyone, including Luffy, remember who's the captain. But him and Luffy, as you mentioned, are too straightforward and reckless in their approach. • Sanji on the other hand always makes his way around the problem, gathers the intel on and sabotages the enemy, makes sure that everyone can escape safely. But he's too indecisive sometimes and underestimates his own worth - this is where Zoro and Luffy shine. They're also very similar - strong and ambitious men who keep their word no matter what.

This speech just shows how Zoro changed from being someone with a dream following Luffy to someone who's achieving his dream to Luffy too. He recently said that again to King. "A promise to my Captain(Luffy) and best friend(Kuina)" His dream is not just for him and Kuina anymore, It's for Luffy too. To Zoro, Luffy was never his rival, but yes his Captain, Leader and Friend. If Zoro needs to die to make Luffy continue to live, he's doing that without any second thought.

This whole video is either theory or just a head Canon because literally in Egghead Island Arc Zoro is literally confirmed and referred to as the right-hand man and vice Captain of straw hat Luffy no matter how you try to think it you can't change the Canon

Sanji shares parallels with all the Yonko/Greats 1st commanders/Right hands (Favoring Observation Haki like Kat, Invisibility like Shiryu, Lunarian DNA like King, Womanizing like Rayleigh, Flame utilization like Sabo, Smoking Like Ben, Flight/blonde/kicks like Marco etc) because on any other crew structure he'd be the Vice Captain or second in command. It's what makes Luffy so special. He has TWO men willing to carry him up like a first mates in Sanji and Zoro. In any other scenario Zoro would be his own captain or doing his own thing. But Luffy is Luffy and to be the next PK he needs his Wings

It’s an interesting take but I’m sorry. When ussop disrespected luffy, even sanji was ready to just forgive him- UNTIL ZORO TOLD EVERYONE the truth. What ussop did was disrespectful to luffy. And they couldn’t just let it slide Scott-free. To which afterwards sanji agreed with him. Zoro is just his vice captain. Sanji is great, but zoro has the mentality of a vice captain and it’s shown time and time again.

It makes sense that Sanji was also about to sacrifice himself for Luffy at thriller bark if you imagine that Oda intended both Sanji and zoro as Vice captains. In this way Sanji would have been the one to pull the nothing happened moment but zoro became the second vice captain in the same moment and took that burden on himself. There Both the Vice Captain let me explain: They both be called the Wings of Luffy the future Pirate King. I would go even further and say that one Wing is more like a Bat/demon wing and one is an Angel wing. Its often show from Oda that most thinks in One piece are the same coin just flipped, u can put that example on Zorro + Sanji: Zoro trains mostly alone Sanji train with helping others (cooking for each Strawhat, seeing what they mostly like) Zoro is strongest if he has fight an Enemy alone Sanji shine if he have to fight for his friends. Zoro´s Goal is to be the Strongest swordsman Sanji goal is to find the All Blue (a sea where all creature can meet each other) I think its a nice gimmig that Zoro gets losed, it just shows that even he is alone he can handle all by himself, where Sanji is mostly with 1-2 Nakamas on the run, just in case they need some help. U can even see a lot of times that Sanji came from nowhere and takes a hit to save someone, but Zoro only gets those moments if Sanji isnt around. Thats why in my oppinion they are both same coin aka. a Vice Captain, just each represent one ideal of him, but together they are the Perfect Vice Captain.

The blackbeard pirates similar to the rocks pirates are filled to the brim with alpha personalities which is why Zoro, Franky, and Jimbei being straw hats isn't really unusual when it comes to serving under above life characters like Luffy, Roger, Rocks, and Blackbeard. It's obvious Oda meant for Eustass Kid to be the whitebeard of his generation but it never stuck. Zoro is the Rayleigh of the worst generation. As far as leadership, the straw hats like the blackbeard pirates seem to work like a cooperative where various different personalities take leadership roles in other areas. Yes sanji sometimes takes the leadership role, but so does Zoro and Nami in various instances.

Sanji is my favorite straw hat but I just can’t see it being him, Zoro has moments where he keeps the crew in check with or without Luffy being there. Like even recently when Luffy, Sanji, Nami, Usopp and Chopper wanted to go save Vivi Zoro is the one that kept Luffy and the crew on track.

The Pretime skip Usopp vs Luffy fight and argument within the crew debunks this entire video, Zoro right there showed he's the VC Sanji didn't even speak up for Usopp's actions he just agreed with Zoro and Punk Hazard Zoro had a speech to Luffy and then he got serious and when Sanji left for WCI Zoro gave commands as a secondary captain to Luffy who already had left. Zoro has many Vice Captain moments Water 7 is a perfect example of that.

Luffy wants to become the best of the best pirate wise, and Zoro is the same exact way he wants to be the best samurai there is no matter how much bs he has to endure. Sanji is a close second but Zoro will always be Luffy’s right hand man.

I remember reading that in Japanese, Zoro and Sanji were not referred to as wings of Luffy, but rather Sanji was referred to as the "wing" of Luffy. Maybe that is related to him being the right hand man?

Zoro is not equal to luffy in strength at all. They share similarities in personality, but not even their personalities and behaviors are the same. They have times when their behavior is the same, but also when it’s different. I could say Usopp, law, and Kid are the same as luffy by this line of logic. Doing this ignores the many times their behavior and personality are shown to differ whether in combat or in other situations. Their dynamic is absolutely nothing like that of Roger and whitebeard or shanks and mihawk. Zoro rarely ever has any emphasis put on his competition between himself and luffy, instead his main rival, equal, and competitor is sanji. In zoro’s vivre card it says Zoro is the 2nd strongest, but in one of the databook statements for Zoro it says he’s competing for 1st and 2nd place in the crew, meaning he’s competing with luffy and sanji. His “competition” with luffy however is extremely one sided with the never really being shown as equals in combat. Zoro fights kaido and doesn’t win while luffy fights a stronger kaido multiple times for longer and eventually wins. Meanwhile zoro’s rivalry and competition with sanji is highlighted constantly throughout the story. You mention Dorry brogy as co-captains as if that applies to Zoro and Luffy’s dynamic and why Zoro needs to be Luffy’s subordinate despite “being his equal.” But Dorry and Brogy never have any similarities established with Zoro and luffy, in fact, Dorry and brogy’s relationship is action compared to Zoro and Sanji’s dynamic in the actual story. Zoro is NOT the only one to get the treat from oda where someone is surprised that given his strength Zoro is a subordinate. Sanji was given the same treatment in thriller bark. This type of treat says less about Zoro and sanji and more about luffy, because luffy is special. He’s strong enough to have such powerful and independent crewmates as his subordinates. Zoro taking the stance of putting his own dream above Luffy’s becoming pirate early in one piece is not relevant to zoro’s current stance. Even back in pre-time skip in thriller bark, Zoro offering his life instead of Luffy’s would by definition be putting Luffy’s dream as priority. You can’t become the strongest swordsman if you’re dead. Zoro and sanji both carry traits of a vice captain. Simply because sanji carries certain traits of a vice captain does not mean that he is the vice captain alone and Zoro is Luffy’s equal. Sanji is definitely a vastly better leader and strategist than Zoro, and he repeatedly takes the leadership position while luffy and Zoro are gone with the other crewmates naturally flocking to him for guidance and decision making to the point of sanji somewhat having taken the captain title briefly with the twirly hat pirates thing. During this period, sanji was also the one discussing his treaty with law during their battle with Doflamingo, and law is obviously the captain of his own crew. But notice how not only is sanji obviously taking the captain role while luffy is gone, but while Zoro is gone as well. This is important because clearly the reason Zoro isn’t present in these moments isn’t because Zoro would be the leader when only luffy is gone, but rather that Zoro would butt heads with sanji while sanji is trying to lead. The comparisons between Dorry and brogy and Zoro and sanji are even more relevant here, because this is the same problem that they encountered as co-captains that you misinterpreted to relate to Zoro and luffy. Zoro is Luffy’s right hand, sanji is Luffy’s left hand, but if anything, they are co-vice captains in a way. Even though sanji may seem more applicable to this vice captain role, we know that Zoro is also applicable here. Oda made a cover with all the vice captains and it included Zoro. Oda goes to explain that the not every character shown truly fills the role of “vice captain”, but he still chose to include characters such as bepo due to unique reasons that he thinks may make them more seemingly relevant for the position of “vice captain” such as combat ability in bepo’s case. Shiryu was even shown there rather than van augur. Zoro could’ve been placed there instead of sanji for a number of reasons, but the point is clearly he is just as deserving of that role as sanji is, but just in a different way than sanji. Even in strength they are as close to equals as characters can get in one piece. All rivals in one piece are extremely relative if not left purposefully up in the air by oda, with Dorry and Brogy being just blatantly equal. Their rivalry being compared to Zoro and sanji’s means that Zoro and Sanji’s rivalry and power dynamic should be the same. And even if you think that zoro’s display at the end of wano was more impressive than Sanji’s it doesn’t necessarily mean anything, because Sanji’s true strength vs Queen was left up in the air. Sanji may have dumped a long ifrit jambe combo on Queen to defeat him, but we know that that was not really necessary to have defeated Queen. After his germs awakening, sanji was tearing through queen’s cyborg body with just diable jambe, and sanji was doing his disappearing trick (which can be scaled to even kizaru’s speed) in just base. Sanji even tells Queen that his “punishment isn’t over” before once again pummeling him with ifrit jambe, so sanji purposefully used extreme unnecessary force on Queen while extending the length queen’s battering just because Queen represents everything that sanji hates shy of wasting food 💀. During egghead oda ends up placing sanji next to luffy facing off against the boss battles of this arc (kizaru and Saturn) while back in wano oda put zoro next to luffy vs the boss battles of that arc (big mom and kaido). They both back up luffy as his right and left and men respectively and are capable of being described as co-vice captains of the crew in their own way. Let’s not forget that it was both Zoro AND sanji who were checking luffy back in pre-time skip back when he had that whole drama with usopp. Both of them were in agreement (which is rare) about different things that they were calling luffy out for as captain, and even both went as far as threatening to leave the crew.

We're observing it also right now in Egghead where Sanji is cutting all loose ends and gathering the crew to escape while Zoro is dragging back fighting Lucci and they have to come fetch him !

Zoro supports Luffy and Sanji supports the crew. This doesn't mean that Zoro doesn't help the crew or that Sanji doesn't help Luffy but for the most part this is how the operate. That's why Zoro is the right hand and Sanji is the left hand.

I like Sanji as a character well enough (except when he gets all pervy it's the one aspect I wish Oda would dial back) but all am saying is Oda drew a colour spread with all the vice captains of the various crews and for the strawhats it was Zoro. Ngl i have to debunck this cos we have seen Zoro, following Luffys orders (even saying in wano "im just following the capitans orders") , also there is a huge gab in power between Luffy and Zoro to say they are equals.

The main issue is most of your feats for Sanji are more in reference to his personality instead of a vice captian. Most of those traits do really fover other vice captains across the board. In my opinion, Oda is telling the story in a way that shows that Luffy doesnt have a vice captain but instead a right hand and left hand man. In this case, the right hand is usually more powerful, but the left is the bigger threat due to their intelligence and skill. The right hand is always by the Mains side while the left is in the shadows or somewhere they can observe the entire battlefield. I do think that the only real moment that kind of solidifies Zoro as the Vice is the handling of Ussop leaving the crew.

Manifestation of His Lies: One of the most intriguing aspects of Usopp's character is that his lies often become true. Besides Usopp is the first crewmate to be on a wanted poster besides Luffy (on Luffys' poster).

Oda spelled out Zoro being the vice captain in thriller bark. When both of them were facing Kuma, Zoro literally knocks Sanji out so he himself can take the captains pain and burden, saving the crew while Luffys out. That was Odas way of demonstrating that Zoro IS the VC over Sanji.

What's more important? The right wing or the left one? Obv, both of them. As per me there is no one vice captain to the crew, sanji and zoro both balance out each other. Both stand on equal grounds when you see the bigger picture. Though, great video✨

I feel like luffys goal of being the king of the pirates is similar to both zoro and sanji’s, to be the king of the pirate you have to be strong maybe even the strongest, similar to zoros dream being the strongest swords men, while also being the king of the pirates you have the find the one piece a piece of treasure that no one knows for sure is even real, which is similar to sanjis dream to finding the all blue sea, which is a fairy tail you have to have a lot of faith belief and ambition to keep looking for without knowing if it’s real or not.

I'm a sanji fan and I still disagree. Luffy values all his members equally. Nobody is vice captain. They have equally important roles to play but nobody is there to "order" others around apart from Luffy himself being the captain.

I am not a hardcore zoro fan but ur theory about luffys true dream doesn’t line up as it was also Roger’s true dream and reighly (I know I spelled it wrong) was not a cook and nor did Roger care about food that much as far as we know. Zoro also linked his dream with luffys in baratie by saying he would need to become the world’s best swordsman for his strength to help luffy in his goal. Zoro also carries luffys will forward helping him achieve it like other vice captains also do. Zoro also helps save luffy in many occasions like on onigashima roof and as early as alabasta saga by killing all the people in that one island who were assassins and of course NOTHING HAPPENED.

this is a great video but I think there's two things I disagree with: 1. Sanji's boundaries and principles are not weaknesses, they are who he is. Like what you said, what makes the Stawhats special is that no one's indivudality or wills or snuffed by hierarchy of crew order, everyone is allowed to pursue their dreams and more importantly show flaws. That's why it's so important that when faced with Kalifa and Black Maria, Sanji relies on Nami and Robin. They can do what he can't. Wano was all about this, when given the chance to abandon his principles for his family's power, he rejected it, and the story rewarded him with even greater power. Ifrit Jambe is a power that comes from Sanji not as a solider but as passionate person. 2. To have a vice captain goes against the lack of hierarchy the Strawhats have. They're basically an ideal version of the Rocks Pirates. Not that everyone is OP, but everyone has their own dreams, except they all work together to achieve each other's dreams. In a way you can view every crew member as a vice captain in their own right, espacially the East Blue 5. Zoro can match Luffy's ambition and will, Usopp can dream as big as Luffy, Sanji can feed Luffy, and Nami can keep Luffy in line

Oda actually came out and confirmed that Zoro and Luffy are more of a Duoagonist, which just backs this theory up even more.

Zoro is strawhats vice captain well not officially but in whole one piece world he is considered as first mate and vice captain by others. Like bartolomeo also said zoro is considered as vice captain and right hand man of luffy in dressrosa.

Pause - Dorry and Broggy were direct shadows of Zoro and Sanji and they do not fit into this conversation for the dynamic of Zoro and Luffy. But I think another creator had a better take; not specifically on who is the VC; but on the dynamic of Zoro Luffy and Sanji. Zoro does embody part of Luffy’s dream. He embodies the strength and determination needed to become King of the Pirates; Sanji embodies the other half. He’s the heart and undying belief in a treasure that Luffy wasn’t even sure was real until Marineford. Similar to the All Blue, it was a “fantasy”. I agree that Sanji usually takes up a crew leadership role in Luffy’s absence. VC behavior. But Zoro is usually Luffy’s second a support or voice of reason. Also VC behavior. There just isn’t a VC role; because that’s not the dynamic the strawhats run under. They have the “Wings” dynamic. 2 people filling that role to support Luffy (Zoro) and the crew (Sanji).

As someone who likes both pretty equally let me give you the reasons why I think you are wrong: 1. Thriller bark and Zoro training arc: During these arcs we see Zoro give up his pride and his dream for Luffy, not because he’s selfless like Sanji but instead because he believes in his captains dream. This can be further emphasized when Zoro learns about Luffy’s dream. 2. Zoro’s place on the crew: During water 7 we see the battle of Luffy and Ussop and who is the one that stands by Luffy the closest. Zoro. And it wasn’t because he agreed or disagreed with Ussop but rather that it disagreed with what The Captain said to do. 3. Strength: While you may be right that Zoro is a beast and Urogue’s comment could support your argument, Rayleigh also was a conqueror like Zoro and still subservient to Roger. 4. Sanji as a character: Sanji for sure cannot be the Vice Captain. Sanji is a selfless man that would sacrifice his life for anyone. His selflessness shows his true colors and how he doesn’t have it in him to be the right hand man of the Pirate King. 5. Luffy’s Dream: You do mention in your video that Luffy’s Dream could be what he told Kaido. However, what you fail to realize is that he has the same dream as Roger and I can tell you right now Roger is not like Luffy in that regard with meat. I’m much more akin to the theory that his dream is to throw a giant party, which can still be used for your theory. However it’s not necessarily true that dreams of the vice captain and captain have to align. The title of Vice Captain in each crew is purely based on strength and their jurisdiction not how their dream aligns with the Captain.

I mostly agree with you. But the fact that he would put himself and the crew in jeopardy if the enemy is a woman is very weird for a vice captain

This video reminded me how annoying sanji fans are. They are delusional. Nowhere in the narrative does sanji fit vice captain. Even sanji himself knows this as he turns to zoro to put him down if he becomes a monster. Zoro has been the one to from a narrative perspective carry the pain and darkness of the crew not sanji. Even back in saboady it was zoro taking the pain on for his captain. It was zoro who made it plain to Luffy that of he does not straighten up they will die in the new world. He also steered luffy in the direction of how serious luffy and usopps fight was and how it can impact the crew. Sanji fans are like naruto and bleach fans they read and watch Op and put sanji in front. Annoying and delusional fanbase.

Both goals are inherently competitive, but finding the One Piece is harder than becoming the World's Strongest Swordsman, so Luffy and Zoro from the jump are portrayed as non-equals. Sanji's dream is inherently non-competitive at all. No one else is searching for the All Blue. Think you would have been better off trying to argue that Sanji serves as Luffy's second vice captain or something because calling Sanji the true vice captain is a huge reach

I still think Zoro is more like Rayleigh. I agree that his strength is more like a Roger x whitebeard and it definitely gives Naruto & sasuke vibes, but Zoro imo is still the true vice captain. Or relating it back to Naruto…he’s the shadow hokage.

I think you're on to something but if you had to put a rank on it in the crew Zorro reads as the disciplinarian protector of the crew so he does come off like a vice Captain even though it's not subordinate in nature but the entire crew is extraordinarily informal

I always knew that sanji is the vice captain he always saves the crew and llead them in every arc he is basically the brain of the crew when it comes to fights

Although it's 4 months later, to add on to your theory either Zoro or Sanji could have taken Luffy's pain at Thriller Bark. However, because Zoro is Luffy's equal he was the only one who could receive his pain and survive. Great video!
