I'm sure some candidates don't just know how to jump fencing like that already? Where can we practice jumping a solid wall like this? How can we practice lifting a 165 dummy if we don't know anyone who weighs that much?
Jump a fence in your yard. The main thing you need to be careful of is rubbing on the top of the fence when your weight is resting on your palms or forearms, because that's when you at most likely to scratch yourself up.
Start building a law enforcement resume: Ride alongs with the agency(ies) you are applying for. If possible, multiple ride alongs during different shifts, different divisions (for larger departments). Check the local junior colleges and with the agency(ies) about a physical conditioning for academies or a pre-academy class. Start RUNNING at least three times a week. Aim for a 9 minute mile average pace for 3 miles. Multiple rounds of 20 push ups (do these during the commercial breaks when watching TV). Same with situps and mountain climbers. Log and track you exercise progress. Present this log with your application or to your background investigator. Stay out of trouble.
Some agencies do have you to the test with a vest. I haven't seen one yet require you to do it with a duty belt. But remember this is just to get into the academy. Most will have you do the wall, etc with a belt and vest on in the academy.
