Dynamic Dahinda
C.R. captures a great day at the Santa Fe' transcon crossing of the Spoon River near Dahinda, IL on July 7, 1995. This is all Warbonnet and Bluebonnets (except Amtrak) with one lash-up right out of the 60's. Some of the numbers are a guess.
1) Westbound SF 5140 (SD40-2) and 5834(?)(SD45-2u) have a train of empty westbound stack and trailer cars.
2) Santa Fe C44-9W #642, B40-8W #541 & 1 more Dash 9 surprised C. R. with an empty eastbound auto rack train.
3) ATSF GP20u #3048, GP9u #2247, a B23-7 and GP20u 3042 (a guess) race west with a long mixed and recreate the Santa Fe of the 60’s.
4) SF SD40-2 5130 (MKM) a SD40-2 and a Dash 9 head east with another mixed consist
5) Amtrak’s westbound Southwest Chief is next with extra head end business
6) ATSF C41-8W #929 leads two other warbonnets and an SD75M on an eastbound TOFC.
7) Warbonnet #504 B40, a GP50, another B40, a SD75M, a Dash 9, a GP 60, two SD75Ms and a GP60B on a power balancing move and westbound TOFC.
8) ATSF C44-9W #673, a Dash 9 and an A-B-A set of GP60s race west on a TOFC.
9) ATSF C44-9W #678, a GP60B, C41-8W’s #939 and #932 are westbound with stack/TOFC train.
10) Warbonnet B40-8W # 554leads three more B 40s east with a hot TOFC train.
11) Bluebonnet SF GP50, a 4000 class GP60, a GP60 B and a bluebonnet GP60 work eastbound with a TOFC train.
