Being a follower of the big man JC myself, I really enjoy Martha's portrayals in FGO and, specifically, this Christmas event. Pretty wholesome, good head on her shoulders, very strong will and devotion, and no ebin Columbus-tier "ooooh she's actually evilllll" subversion going on. The scene at the end of the event where she recalls how she felt back then in Bethany was pretty touching. Also them doing the CG of that memory in stained glass fashion was a nice artistic choice. Real shame this event's on a gimped schedule and that events don't get reruns anymore.
Same. It's nice that FGO respects Christian mythology and religion (The occasional joke not withstanding) because Martha was definitely the best part of this event, especially those stained-glass images of her and JC.
@@bradleyharris774 The Church in Fate lore is one of the most mysterious and powerful organizations in the world being an explicit rival to the Clock Tower and its top enforcers are more than a match for the strongest mages despite using completely different magic systems. A lot of Servants utilize holy relics such as EMIYA using a holy shroud as armor and Christian NPs tend to be very powerful such as the Ark of the Covenant having the potential to completely obliterate Heracles, God Hand and all, just by touching it and Solomon becomes Grand Caster due to the blessing of God as well as devastates Beast I simply by giving that blessing back. Despite the Japanese origins of the franchise (which notably and unfortunately tend to dunk on Christianity for historical reasons), there is as much respect for Christianity as any of the myriad cultures and mythologies they incorporate.
Definitely a Saver Class servant. The special class reserved only for messiahs of humanity. They break a lot of the rules when it comes to Heroic Spirits and one of those rules is that they don't require any summoning ritual or catalyst. They can just... decide to appear and they will. Otherwise they are impossible to summon as they are separated from the laws of magic. It's very unlikely that the developers would try to include him as a playable character due to the potential for backlash. However, given the threat being presented to humanity I would like to think that if a situation was truly hopeless and the Last Master of Chaldea was about to fall there is a possibility that one of the Saver-class servants would step in to save the world as an NPC. Their very existence is meant to serve as divine intervention after all. Perhaps not directly because that would feel cheap but... imagine that an enemy finally manages to kill Ritsuka. Everything seems doomed until a mysterious figure shows up and asks Chaldea the same thing he asked Martha all those years ago. If they do, then he would likely not be opposed to performing a miracle to bring him back to life before going on his way.
This is under the assumption that He's telling her to cook all that, but in reality He's in the back with Mary and Lazarus sweatdropping as they *attempt* to make her slow down
As someone with family members just like Martha. You got to get them to stop and smell the roses. They spend all of their time at every family gathering serving everyone else to the point where they fail to have meaningful interactions with the people they are serving. JC is trying to get Martha to take a break.
I like the FGO interpretation of the Martha vs Tarasque story. She just beats the crap out of it so hard that they give her summer version Jacob's Limbs. You know, the guy who wrestled either God or an angel?
I was swamped with med school finals during the event. I left the event on the to-do list assuming there's a rerun; just now learning that I'm apparently screwed on that front.
Yeah. Martha knowing Jesus personally is a fairly big deal and it does get mentioned at least once in her My Room dialogue although never by name. Martha only refers to Jesus as 'Him'. I imagine that there are more than a few Servants jealous of her for getting that chance. Also worth noting in case you didn't know is that Ozymandias is 'The Pharaoh' from Exodus, Ramses II, who was blood brothers too Moses and in fact even compares him briefly to the Master of Chaldea.
Fgo: If they follow or are in the bible and or follow god they are op. Naysayers:name one example Fgo:Martha soloman amakusa Jeanne the pillars David Naysayers:stop it's too much
A tidbit not mentioned here is how exactly Martha and co. ended up in Gaul in the first place, which was that the Romans put them on a boat in the middle of the Mediterranean with no sail or paddles and, like a Bond villain, left them to die without checking to confirm it worked. Be it luck or divine intervention, she survived long enough to wash up on the shore alive. So yeah, her Ruler form getting a buff when near bodies of water isn't just for Summer theming, it's also a callback to that particular miracle.
Just in case this isn’t a joke: yeeeeah that tale is from “The Golden Legend”, basically a collection of Catholic “biographies on saints” (hagiographies) that was written in the Middle Ages. Fun stuff. I’ll leave it at that haha.
servant relevance nonwithstanding the fact that servant guides in the past have had absolutely nothing to do with the history of the servant baffles me kudos for making a tired video format significantly more interesting to watch in the days of instant gratification via atlas academy
Martha... one of the two original SR servants I summoned in FGO along with Carmilla. I have her ruler version at bond 10, her rider version at almost max, and now her Santa form as well. One of my favorite Heroic Spirits.
She's cute. Story was fun and I'm glad to have her. Could have been the quick welfare If not for skadi hating anyone else helping the fail that is quick or should I call it the skadi class
Like a true saint, she got me out of a lot of tough situations in the early game of my journey. With Stheno being my starter and Saber Lily being my strongest, Martha came in clutch. Even now I use her to run some fast set ups for challenge quests I tackle blindly. She also helps plenty during the Grail Front events whenever there is a Rider opening.
Best Saint is back again for Round 3, ready to suplex Satan, Arjuna, and any other nonbeliever, or jackass on the naughty list. This Christmas season, put out those milk and cookies, or get ready to catch these holy fucking hands.
Apparently the oldest copies of the gospel look a little edited when the family of Lazarus comes up. Leading some to theorize that Martha was either invented or had her role increased, to reduce the spotlight of Mary. Which leaves me to ask: Pretender Martha when?
I grailed her to 100 like my other Marthas so no esports for me. There's also a story where Martha wiped out a bunch of pirates by controlling the sea.
