Prosecutors have charged a 26-year-old man with homicide after he allegedly punched the manager of a Santa Monica bar, leading to his death, according to authorities.
The Santa Monica Police Department said officers responded to the 2700 block of Main Street, outside of Jameson's Pub, at about 12:05 a.m. Tuesday morning on reports of a battery. The investigation found that the manager of Jameson's Pub asked several patrons to leave. After that, police say one of the patrons punched the manager, leaving him unconscious.
KTLA's Sandra Mitchell reports on June 13, 2024.

Your comment infers that the bar manager was stupid for doing what a bar manager is supposed to do. To sully this mans life after he lost it by doing the right thing is reprehensible. Also, what do you expect the bar to do after a tragedy like this? Your comment also infers that the bar owners are callous buttheads that do not care about their employees. Most of the times not true. I suspect that you have never owned a business and have no idea about what it takes to survive. For if you did you would not post anti business comments like that.

Exactly. I'm sure he didn't at all mean to kill that man. It's just like you said, he was being a tough guy, threw the punch, and when the man fell back he was probably feeling even more tough. But when he got arrested and told the man he punched didn't make it, his world fell apart, especially after he sobered up. The life as he knew it was over. 26 years old 🤦‍♂️.

Establishments aren’t allowed to serve someone that’s obviously drunk. This usually pisses the drunk off; and then trouble ensues. The manager had every right to refuse to serve & get them out.
@desiv1170
@desiv1170 28 дней назад
@@B126USMC Exactly. That's why the phrase seemed odd. It sounds like it is implying the person was already too drunk (i.e. had been overserved). And it's possible they were just getting there, and that's why the the manager cut him off. So he wasn't actually overserved yet. I'm not totally sure which was which, but that phrasing implies that he was already overserved, which I think is an assumption by the reporter at this point. Did the patron punch the manager because he had been served too much at that establishment already, or was he cut off and just a jerk committing a crime? And, IANAL so I have no idea how that plays out legally. I just didn't like the sound of that, as it sounds to me like they were implying he was overserved. I don't think that's known.

Five years ago, in a road rage incident in San Bernardino, California, a 31-year-old career criminal sucker punched a 70-year-old sheriff who died when his head hit the concrete sidewalk. Then he fled in his truck. When he was caught, he was able to plead guilty to only voluntary manslaughter (as well assault and "threatening a crime"). He got only 10 years. Goes to show you how lenient the DA and courts have gotten over the last few years. If someone like that got only 10 years, image what this guy will get when his lawyer claims "the alcohol made him do it".

Back in the 90s I was at a store in a nice neighborhood that had a recycling booth, and an old guy and his grandson ran it and were just closed down. A short white guy in a nice truck said he needed to turn in his cans and when the old guy said they were closed the short guy punched him dead in the face knocking him out. The police were called and I don't know if the old man survived, but it was awful. My husband actually held the attacker down until the police and ambulance arrived. My husband was a full foot taller than him and military and when he tackled him the little bully cried like a little girl lol

I'm drinking a beer right now. I've drunk socially for decades. Only ever punched someone when my Judo instructor told me to do so in training. In Europe kids can drink beer and wine from 16, socially with their parents from younger than that. But people tend not to go out and get f'ed up; it's considered extremely antisocial behavior. It's very much an American (and somewhat British from what I've seen) thing. People hold out becoming 21 like it's some magically age, and everyone tries to cheat and get around it. I remember keggers in the woods. It makes alcohol some taboo to be broken. When it becomes an addiction it destroys your life. And over served? Why do they need a euphemism for "drunk"?
