This is a semi-regular charity show. For the last 25 years or so, Eric has hosted this festival every 3-4 years or so. It benefits a drug treatment center he started on the island of Antigua. It's usually like a 3-4 day Festival with 20 or so different guitar legends each playing a set and Eric comes out and jams with them. There's a million great performances from these shows.
Also in concert if eric starts walking slowly in place you can bet hes in the zone and you are in for an epic 20 minute or more jam. Ive seen it a few times and there really are no words. This was 90s and early 2000s. .
i was REALLY hoping you'd do this one...and this is proof that miracles can happen...lol. Clapton started the Crossroads Guitar Festival and they've had TONS of killer shows.
@@jameshelm2847 No. Stevie Ray Vaughn died in 1990 after a show in Wisconsin. Clapton held the first charity concert for his rehab clinic in 1999 at Madison Square Garden (RU-vid has a bunch of videos from that show). That was the precursor to what would become the multi-day or multi-stage Crossroads Guitar Festival, which has been held every few years since 2004.
Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival is pretty much an annual event. It benefits the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, founded by Eric Clapton, for chemically addicted people. It is in a different city every year. This year it is in Dallas in September and as always, has a stellar lineup.

Eric started his Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2004 and has had them every three years, with the most recent being 2019. They are wonderful, and there are no bad ones. All are on DVD and Blue-ray. So much great music from so many great musicians. Give yourself a treat and check out one or all. If you love blues, you'll be in heaven.
There is loads of Clapton live on here. Saw him live 1980. Gary Brooker was in that tour band and yes, they performed also Whiter Shade of Pale. Brooker sanging of course. Got To Get Better live!
I met Carlos once. On Kapiolani Blvd Oahu Waikiki , Hawaii. A street artist painting with spray cans , and poster board, caught his attention and Carlos became his patron in the Arts.. THAT IS DEFINATELY GIVING BACK
The name is Jingo. The 'Lo Ba' are actually part of the lyrics. Clapton played on Santana's 'The Calling' which is mainly instrumental. The moment I heard that song, I knew Clapton was playing. I have never been able to find a video of it though. Maybe you can find one?
Jamel: There is a DVD of this 2004 Crossroads Guitar Festival whole concert. I'm sure you'd enjoy it. It also has, J.J. Cale, Z.Z. Top, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughn (Stevie Ray's brother), Steve Vai, Joe Walsh, and many more on it. Check it out. It's worth buying.
This is great. HOWEVER, the seminal version of this song is from Woodstock 69 with a young Greg Rolie on the vocals and organ. When that album (had it on reel to reel) came out, we were all in awe of the the music this young guitarist produced, even if he was on an acid trip. Thanks for the memories.
This is something Eric Clapton has been doing every summer for at least the last 20 yrs. He invites some of the greatest current and older great guitarists to this Festival, and they all Jam and perform together. It's a really wonderful idea Eric made a reality. It's Fantastic.
Normally each festival is 3 years apart. Clapton created the festival with much help from others. It is worthy for you to start exploring these shows Jamel. Even if you do it in private and never tell us, please do it for your own sake.
This is a Baba Olatunji cover. Baba's version was used for my sixth grand dance recital. This is hot. I love how Santana slipped that Manu Dibango in there.
Those "Crossroads Guitar Festivals" are an Epic Video Collection ~ Eric hosts them & invites everybody who is anybody who can play guitar ~ if you ever wanted to replace one of your complete album sets with one of those video collections ypu would love it
2 guitar gods - how lucky for those who were there and saw this; 2 distinct styles. Carlos is getting right into, his body in constant motion. Eric making his guitar sing. WOW!!!!! You have to be up on the floor dancing with all of this music.
i SAW Santana 2XS, ONCE AT TE Greek, & i FORGOT WHERE ON THE 2ND ONE. Clapton, MY DAD USED TO HAVE SENATE SEATS AT TE Forum, SAW HIM THERE & IN PA. BUT TO SEE THE 2 OF THEM TOGETHER??? DAMN! I WISH
Two of the Classic Rock era greats. All we're missing is Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Winter. All of the greats are either gone, or nearing the last years of their lives. We will always have their music to remember them with.
"I don't know how much they practice".... it's safe to assume: not at all for a jam like this. On that level of musicianship, the guys know the songs they play, maybe just arrange when they solo. "Jingo" is just one chord for most of the time. The rest is simple: open your ears and your soul for the band you jam with and do your thing.
Jayzus! is that Eric Clapton on the same stage !?! I've seen both of these guys about the same number of times but never together. That's friggin' awesome! And look at Jamal; he totally spaced and forgot to pause.
I know a lot of G.O.A.T.S. jam together, but had no idea these two guitar gods played together. Saw them both separately in the early 80’s. Santana played before The Rolling Stones and made 3 curtain calls. Saw Eric 3 times in mid 80’s. Good memories.
Claptons Crossroads Festivals are charity shows for his rehab facility in Anguilla. He personally invites the guitarists each time. I have every cd/dvd. The collaborations are freaking amazing. If you’re a guitar lover like me, they’re a goldmine. 🔥🔥🔥
You never go wrong with Carlos Santana.... and with Eric Clapton, to boot! Saw you sing along when they were singing Soul Makossa... you should react to the original from Manu Dibango, rest his soul... the Lion of Africa!
I'm not an expert in guitar music by any means.. I love both of these artists.. but it was amazing to hear them going back and forth. To my untrained ear I felt like I could hear the style differences ... Maybe I'm imagining it.. lots of fun.
Saw Santana and EC at Saratoga Performing Arts Center years ago. Santana opened for Clapton. Then Santana joined Eric for a half-hour encore. Epic!! Eric got the train roaring then Carlos sent us up to the stratosphere!!
Saw them together in Jacksonville way back in 1975. It was special! Santana opened. Clapton headlined. The real treat was the hour plus they did together. I remember Little Wing and Presence of the Lord like it was yesterday.
Great reaction as always. The Crossroads Guitar Festivals are a goldmine of great musicians and unusual collaborations. It's a charity concert hosted by Eric Clapton to raise funds for his drug treatment center in Antigua. Between 2004 and 2019 there have been 5 events. Some of the musicans that have taken part are: BB King, Buddy Guy, Keith Richards, Peter Frampton, Steve Winwood, Sheryl Crow, Jimmie Vaughn, Robert Cray, Booker T, Joe Walsh, Derek Trucks, Doyle Bramhall II, John Mayer, ZZ Top and many more. If you want to see more of Clapton playing the guitar like he does in this video, you should check out his performance of "I shot the sheriff" from the 2004 Crossroads Festival or "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" together with Jeff Beck, also from the 2004 Crossroads Festival or "Little Queen of Spades" from the 2007 Crossroads Festival.
Two of the three greatest rock guitarists on stage together! (the other would be Jimi Hendrix, imagine if he could've been there), in my humble opinion. Think of that ethnic diversity creating a universal 'language'. Music!
Waw ! Two of my favorite guitar heroes together on stage ! Had never seen that one, this is great. And we had some dire straits too this week. You are doing a great work. Thks.
Clapton's playing with Cream was a big influence on Santana, which is why Santana briefly quoted the riff from the Cream version of "Outside Woman Blues" at around 4 minutes, and Clapton started playing the harmony part.
Freaking amazing! These are 2 of my top 4 favorite guitarists. I've seen both live. And Crossroads is put on by Eric Clapton and many awesome musicians.
Yes the Crossroads guitar festival benefits the Crossroads alcohol and drug rehab center. It use to be an annual event in Chicago every year. Now it goes to different cities. If I started naming clips or songs of Clapton to watch I'd be here all night However there are a few audio songs to suggest and or video if you choose: 1. The Core- either from the original studio recording or the 2014 live will do. 2. Cocaine- Specifically from the album - "Just one night live". It's from 1980, hell that whole live album is Clapton in all his glory especially the cut "Blues Power" or "Double Trouble" just fantastic. Anyway gonna bounce. Peace ✌️
JJ Cale is some one who needs to be looked into. Clapton covered a few and even Santana covered one of his songs. JJ Cale was supposed to be on American Bandstand with Dick Clark, but when he found out they didn't want JJ and his band to play, they only wanted JJ to lip sync and he refused and left. He never got radio play time after that till Clapton did After Midnight and Cocaine. "Sensitive Kind" and "I'll make love to you anytime" (covered by Jerry Garcia) are a good place to start, JJ Cole has a deep collection.
Woo Hoo ! Oh Yeah Man ! Jamel ! It's great to see you groovin & funkin along to this great music ! Again, welcome to more great music. Live music by legends who are basically jamming & of course having a great time is one of the greatest things on Earth.
Their first two albums, Santana and Abraxas, are excellent. Abraxas was deemed "culturally, historically, or artistically significant" by the Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in their National Recording Registry in 2016.
