The song was written by Tito Puente. The shock for me was hearing Tito Puente perform it and noticing how similar they actually are. Santana just took the song did a great performance.
Santana is my paisano. He was born in the same town in Jalisco, Mexico: Autlán. Thanks Jamal, for having an open mind and enjoying music from all over the world. I love your channel, bro. You’re awesome!
Santana says he’s not from Mexico. He’s a citizen of the World. He doesn’t need country boundaries to define him. He would definitely himself as a “Paisano” of the world. Paisano means neighbor or friend.
you should think of Brownsville Station Brownsville Station they got a song that's called The Martian Boogie. Martian cigarettes their deeds I'm think I'm going to go on over to each myself all right
The first concert I ever went to (with my Dad) was a double bill of Chicago and Santana. Santana was the "warm up band" that nobody had heard of at that time but they blew the roof off of the place.
My *most recent* concert was Santana with the Doobie Brothers and even though they're all older it was still amazing. And even though I usually am not that big on the musicians talking much at shows (I know, I'm weird), Santana is just another breed man. That dude has so much wisdom and I loved listening to him just talk about life and going through things. He's not bad at playing music either haha.
The music makes your soul dance. There is something about the salsa beat that is so life affirming. Thanks for playing this. You may be interested in checking out The Buena Vista Social Club. They are Cuban gold.
I follow several reaction channels and Santana doesn't get anywhere near the exposure as he deserves. He's got a HUGE catalog and is an absolute icon in the world🌏❗😎
1991 - saw him in concert with Steve Winwood. My fiance (now husband) is lucky I didn't leave him right then and there. " When are they gonna play something good?" (He knows better now!!)
Jamel, Perhaps You know this Tune, was originally done by Tito Puente, a famous Percussionist & Musician in, the Latin Scene. Plus the Lyrics in this quasi - medley - "I'll Never Go Back to Georgia", was from another Latin Artist - Joe Cuba's "El Pito". Anyway, Everyone was happy. As it extended the popularity of those tunes & Latin Music, in general. Besides, it proved to be a Profitable Payday, for all concerned. ;-)
My dad’s from DR and Tito was always part of his party collection playlist, and boy did we have parties. As a kid, we would look out our bedroom windows and watch everyone dancing in the backyard . Such great memories.
One of my faves. My boyfriend (soulmate no longer here) in HIGH school had his father buy the 8 track for me cause I loved the song so much. Great cruisin song. "All Day Music" by War is another one. Takes me right back there when I here these.
Yes, Jorge Santana died last year on 5/14 and Arcelio Garcia died last year on 8/11. So sad, I really love their music. They were planning on touring again last year when the pandemic hit.
in 1976 our High School Spanish Class had audio record and playback to learn the language. The teacher had to leave the room unexpectedly, she didn't return for quite some time & the students were getting restless. I popped-in Santana's Oye Como Va cassette and Turned It UP! We were boogy'ing 'till the bell rang!!
I've seen him live three times, every show was spectacular! hope to see him again. He did a version of "Tequila" with lyrics in Spanish, there's nothing like being part of 10,000 people yelling "Tequila" at the same time.
I've seen him three times too. When I saw him in 1981 the entire audience (maybe 16,000 people) was up dancing and singing from about the second song all the way through the encores. One of the most memorable concerts I've ever seen, and I've seen a few. Genius songwriting, genius lead guitar and genius musicians (especially the percussion). What more can you ask for?
Ive seen him 2x, the first time with the original band. 😎👍 The second time, he was touring with BB King! It was one of two GOAT concerts out of the many I've attended. Second was Allman Bros with Duane. That concert was 🔥! 👊😎 *@Jamel* There's never enough Santana .. and your reactions are the best out there. Thanx!
RIP Raul Rekow, a sweet soul, a humble man, a monster conga virtuoso, an amazing singer, an awesome human being. Thanks, Jamal, for reminding us of this 1992/93 performance of this Santana line up in Mexico. Awesome Soul Sacrifice tour.
@@cristyrawks6325 PROBABLY BUT ADMIT STONED OR NOT THEY DIDN'T MISS A NOTE THE CROWD ENJOYED LISTENING TO IT IF IT AINT BROKEN WHY FIX IT ? 🤨WHY BE A STICK IN THE MUD GET OUT THERE TAKE YOUR GIRL OR GUY ENJOY LIFE RESPECT TOMORROW IS NOT PROMISED TO ANYONE FRIEND STAY WELL AND HEALTHY ENJOY LIFE RESPECT
@@carlosvazquez7437 Wow dude, you took a totally misunderstood comment on your part and ran with it, didn't ya hun? smh lol I was pointing out the obvious for fun. Shoot I was stoned back then too. Kay? You're forgiven. 😉
Part of what makes your channel great is your musicality. Like when you picked up how they quoted “owner of a lonely heart” for a few seconds there. It really makes me feel like we are sharing the music together.
This version smokes the original studio recording! The audience brings out the best in the talented musicians! The Hammond B3 organ and Carlos Santana's guitar, great combo!
I met Carlos on Kapiolani Blvd. in Waikiki when I was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was checking out, and helping, a street artist painting with spray aresol on poster board. Always into arts and the spirit of giving back....Senor Carlos!
It's cool that you caught "Owner of a lonely heart." Carlos is always doing little quotes of all kinds of songs. It's like a game trying to name all the songs he quotes in a single solo.
One of my favorites from Santana is "Dance, Sister, Dance". That's one song that shows the talent of the entire band. Journey btw was a Santana spinoff.
I had the pleasure of attending two Santana concerts. 1979 in Hollywood, Florida, and 1981 in Anaheim, California. Love the Cuban percussionists that played with Santana. 🇺🇸😊🇨🇺
Did you see Santana at the Hollywood Sportatorium? I saw him there, for the first time, right after Abraxas was released. You could barely see the stage because the pot smoke was so heavy; it was like the movie Casablanca. I didn't care; Carlos Santana was my hero, the music was phenomenal, & I had a blast.
You asked, so... Yup, I was at one of these shows. I got to watch Carlos do magical things with his guitar from the third row! You make a good observation about the richness of their sound. It really strikes you when you see them live. I think a lot of it has to do with the doubled-up percussion.
My absolute favorite Santana song!! I always thought the studio version was way too short because I got into it so much. Thanks Jamel, for doing the live version! It was a great ride! I’ve never heard this version before because unfortunately for me I’ve never had the privilege to see Santana live. THIS WAS GREAT! I’m going to RU-vid the crap out of this and play it over and over! Impossible to get tired of Carlos Santana! Try out the live Woodstock version of Soul Sacrifice. Before many knew who Santana even was! It made him a household name and I think he was only 19 at the time! EFFING AMAZING!! Much love Jamel. Sub since day one ☝️ Thanks for helping keep great music ALIVE!!👍🤜🏾🤛🏾✌️
If you want the true power of Santana’s strength as a guitarist, you need to hear Toussaint L’overture. Preferably the studio version off of Santana III. There’s just a certain magic behind that end solo.
I got you a dandy here. Steve Perry AND Kenny Loggins In a duet. together! “Don’t Fight It” is A fast paced happy summertime thrill ride! Buckle up and press play. Bro I’ve been requesting this one for over a year bc I know you love them both
Jamel here's another great live song: Billy Joel Prelude/Angry Young Man Live From Long Island. Unreal piano skills on it. Shot during the same concert that you saw Scenes From An Italian Restaurant. Thanks, have a good day. 🙂
I wasn't there, but got to see Santana on cheapskate hill in Berkeley at the Greek Theater. As long as you were not causing trouble or trying to sneak inside, the cops would let us sit on the hill above the amphitheater and watch the show. Better days in some ways, worse in others. Sometimes I get a serious case of nostalgia for the 70's just thinking about it. I'm glad society in general moved on, but we lost a lot of the love when we moved into the materialism of the 80's, and in that way, we've gotten worse recently. Remember: you can't take it with you..
I love Carlos Santana and his music and have since Woodstock. He is a gentleman and a great humanitarian. Thank you God for his music and genorosity if spirit
Jamal There's a great song from Santana's brother, the name of the band is called Malo the song "suavecito", it is a very chill song loved by all the old-school low Rider Chicano's
Live in Latin America. One of Carlos’ greatest bands ever. Including Jorge Santana brother of Carlos who passed on last year. Thank you Carlos and Jamel. Alex Ligertwood from Scotland on vocals and Tony Lindsay also on vocals. What a great band.
This version is too fast ... On your own find an early version of this song.. especially with Greg Rollie on vocals , Greg and Neal Schon would leave Santana and form Journey ... Back in the Day ...
My reaction too! But after a minute or so I warmed up to this uptempo version. The energy on stage and from the crowd almost demands (in a good way) the tempo be a bit faster than the original.
Apparently this was already a classic Latin song long before this band recorded it. Never knew that previously. LOVE Carlos Santana! He's one of those guitar gods! Your reaction shows that you dig REAL music. The appreciation is appreciated.
Yes I was at a Santana concert... live! ...in my youth...15 times over the years....even have one of my favorite pictures... me meeting him having a moment one on one and getting his autograph....my boyhood hero.
For those of you who don't know, Tito Puente (Puerto Rican Composer) wrote and played Oye Como Va. Carlos Santana made it his... I like them both, but if I had to choose one it would definitely be Santana's version... RIP Grand Maestro Tito Puente... Stay safe... Rico
I've worn out a couple of copies of Abraxas, bought all their LPs back then (including the doubles and triples) seen e'm at their best in the late 70s; This was new to me and pretty glorious too.
Seen him many times. During the 80s he played a "Rock the Vote" show, if you registered or had voter id it was free admission, he played 3 and 1/2 hrs, non stop. He makes that guitar speak and in my opinion there is no greater guitarist. He's a darn good human as well. Love the never go back to Georgia story.
Love your reactions! You are appreciating and feeling this song with your whole body! I was fortunate to see Santana twice. I haven’t been to many concerts. I don’t know why but I’ve seen him twice. So fun!! Thanks for bringing back great memories!!
Carlos Santana is one of the world's greatest guitarists of all time in in my humble opinion. Grew up listening to his music 🎵🎶! Saw him live a couple of times.... truly a deeply religious experience.
SANTANA AT WOODSTOCK ... 'SOUL SURVIVOR': ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xBG6IaSQCpU.html BILL GRAHAM CALLED MIKE SHRIEVES DRUM WORK, THIS SONG, 'BEST IN ROCK HISTORY!' MIKE WAS A 'HIGH SCHOOL' FRIEND. ENJOY
I ALWAYS ASK YOU TO REACT TO SOMETHING BUT YOU NEVER DO. THIS IS DONE BY SCHOOL KIDS IN DETROIT, A CLASSIC BY FUNKADELIC, I THINK IT SHOWS THE FUNK WILL NEVER DIE, THIS IS..... - Detroit: One Nation Under A Groove!!!!!!!!
Since you're liking Santana you'll like Malo, try their song 'Suavecito'. Carlos' brother Jorge played guitar in it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kKWi-NR--io.html
Santana is one of those legends who is instantly recognizable tbe second he starts playing. It's a small, elite group; Carlos, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, SRV, Mark Knopfler.
Santana "Abraxas" was the first album I bought with my own money. I was 9yrs old. The diversity of music I was drawn too..all very instrumentals. Hence my love of progressive music. When I look back now. I started real young.
Oye Como Va is a very common expression used in the Hispanic Latino culture. This phrase has many different interpretations! Here are some of them: "Hey, What's up?!" "What's going on?!" "How are you?" "Wat up?!" are just a few of them. Enjoy hermanito!
@Jamel: This is from the DVD; Sacred Fire - Live in Mexico City. The whole DVD is great. You like drums, at one point there's a conga/timbales battle that's very exciting in this show.
Mel, have you ever heard their song "Everybody's Everything"? If you like playing 'air drums' there's nothing like it. Such a powerhouse tune! I would recommend the studio version.
💥Saw them on a double bill with the Funkadelics in 1978. The place was literally jumping! I swear Santana must have been 25 ppl on the stage. And that was when the Funkadelics had the space ship.
A little FYI, the other guitarist with the red pants is his brother George Santana, ( R.I.P. ) an exceptional guitarist himself, also the man on the key boards is Chester Thompson of Tower of Power fame. He played for ten years with Tower of Power, and then joined Santana for about 26 years
