@@bluewendigo672 I'm now 60. Discovered Santana with Woodstock (I was 11). Then bought Abraxas in January 1971 (I was 12). Then bought I and III. Then went to the first Santana concert in Brussels. November 73. I even could attract my very Dear Mom with me... And last year, I went to see dear old Carlos near my living place; namely Alicante in Spain. It was in August 2018... So, I have been living with Santana almost all of my life! And always feel passionate with their music! Gracias Carlos y toda la banda!!!

Holy shit, that was the hottest, most exciting drum solo in many, many years. Mike Shrieve plays indescribably, extraordinary, the "soul" becomes one with the body, one with the drums, melts into audible music that pulsates through our veins. Thank you for this amazing historical music video that sounds so new and very modern at the same time. It challenges our soul spirits.

nah, they were great, incredbile for their time, but the lineups from the late 70's to mid 80's got even better. The triple threat of raul rekow, armando peraza, and orestes vilato on percussion, Graham Lear on drums doing everything Mike did and more, Tom Coster's soaring keyboards that were far greater reaching that what Greg could play, and the killer combo of Greg Walker and Alex Ligertwood alternating on lead vocals, the two best vocalists they ever had, then bassists Dave Margen and later Alphonso Johnson, those lineups were unbeatable, they could play everything in the Santana cannon to it's max potential. Listen to Black Magic Woman live in 1987 in Moscow, it's insanely powerful.

@greatunz67
@greatunz67 4 года назад
@@marcrogers1051 He sure as hell did, you clearly haven't seen him enough, from his days in Gino Vanelli's band before Santana, then with Santana from 76-87, then even in his 'old' years with Paul Anka, check him out. Mike was more limited in scope, more eclectic, especially after leaving Santana, Graham was more powerful rock drummer who could also dip into jazz and other sytles.

Neal's birthday is on Feb 27 1954. Therefore he turned 16 in Feb 1970. And he was 16 when he played with Santana in June 1970 en Suisse.

If there was any other band that had to play after this i pity them. Some of the best Carlos & company could have laid down. Saw them in 69at The Atlantic City Pop Fest billed as The Santana Blues Band & the signs were there that even after Woodstock & the Fillmore shows this band was going to blow the roof off every venue they got to play & that's exactly the way it went down. Awesome performance despite the quality of the film. It makes no difference as these boys were on FIRE... What a super set even without Chepito not being there . What a time get a cold...

And in thees times was it not unusual that the band played how long they want. I was surprised as they came back on stage after 5min. after regular gig, and played another 1 1/2h. I just wonder if I would be so exited if I was'nt on LSD..... and I'm sure there must be somewhere a excelent footage of the entire gig. Probably a TV chanel, or a privat person is just waiting for the right moment to make business with it...... And Chepito was'nt just cold. Read the coment from Raul Macias below.

"MICHAEL SHRIEVE"! DRUMS, "MICHAEL CARABELLO"! CONGAS and JOSEPH THOMAS "COKE" ESCOVEDO"! TIMBALES/CONGAS. What a Percussion section!!! MICHAEL SHRIEVE was an fantastic and underrated Drummer! His Drum solo on "SOUL SACRIFICE" is incredible!!! The majestic MICHAEL CARABELLO'S work on CONGAS I've always admired!!! I preferred Carabello's approach in that he didn't pound hard on the Congas but had a lighter easier touch!!! "COKE" ESCOVEDO did a superb job filling in for an ailing JOSE "CHEPITO" AREAS on TIMBALES/BONGOS/VOCALS and assorted PERCUSSION!!! COKE'S TIMBALES solo on "SAVOR" is spellbinding!!! Sadly, this great lineup would breakup by the Summer of '71 due to the Sex, Drugs, Rock 'n' Roll and power struggles within the band. On the breakup of SANTANA ~ Quote by JOSEPH THOMAS "COKE" ESCOVEDO ~ "You jive, and you suffer the consequences." Why hasn't this gig been officially released by Columbia Records?

@karelcarlosbrazda9320
@karelcarlosbrazda9320 6 лет назад
No, it's a roadie. I don't know if one of the Santana crew, or from Claude Nobs crew. Probably the last. Few seconds later he's passing Carlos a new guitar because of a broken string. I think Santana even did'nt play his own guitars, and maybe half of all instruments has been offered by factorys or shops.

So, on the Viva Santana album, there's Jungle Strut live in Montreux 1971. This is obviously a lie. The rhythm section, maybe. But the guitars and organ are lifted directly from the Santana III album version. This video shows the real performance. It's so amazing!!
@karelcarlosbrazda9320
@karelcarlosbrazda9320 4 года назад
Be carefull. It could be they played another gig in the afternoon for selected audience, or even they played 2 gigs that day, or a day later. And the gig I was in was about 2 1/2h long. After the regular "End"(more then 1h) they came back and played more then 1h again. So it's possible, they played Jungle Strut twice... I don't remember details 'cause I was on LSD. I was just fascinated by Neil Schon.

@@stefanofocacci Verissimo. Del resto l'eroina e gli acidi fecero molte vittime e molte leggende.
