I bought Carlos' Gibson L-6S with the Borbolletta top at Leo's Music in Oakland, in 1982 for $400.00 (!) Can you believe it- I can't! I watch him playing it on RU-vid and then pick it up, unreal. Thank you Carlos. 🕉
400 dollars must have been a lot of money at the time, friend. I don't know how important this instrument is to you, but if you could tell this story in person to Carlos Santana, I bet he would do anything to get it back
Everyone who's ever stepped on stage with Santana has always given 100%. Just amazing. Buddy Miles and Alex Ligertwood! I know Buddy gets much love, but Alex gave Santana his heart and soul. I love Alex so much! I love all these guys!
I first saw Santana in 1976 at Day On The Green. Then in 1986 at the 20th anniversary show with Buddy, this band and original members. Outside on the street in S.F. -free I saw Carlos' special Multidimensional Warrior show at the Fillmore West (!) The last time was in 2016 at the Festival on the Green concert. I've seen them at Shoreline, Concord, the Warfield- so many shows! The Old Waldorf was full of plants 🪴 with a sign that said- "Welcome to Santana Land" My god how blessed I/we are. Transcendent celebration of life- rhythms and melodies. 🕉 🎉
I've read on-line reviews where a guy states Santana never had drummers of any consequence....wow. Shrieve, Mles, “Ndugu” Chancler, Graham Lear , Rodney Holmes, and Dennis Chambers....not to mention the tour Chester Thompson the drummer filled in for Lear!
@@geetarman Shrieve, Buddy Miles, Graham, Chester Thompson to name a couple more. To say that Dennis is not an extraordinay player is just stupid and would say the least being his wife Cindy Blackman from Lenny Kravitz fame who did this last Tour. A talented lady but was out of her leaque and it showed in her big solo (lots of unintended stick clicks and muddle but during the groove she was solid.. I am shocked by the sheer ignorance of people and the uninformed opinions that they are so cavalier to post. Santana's percussion has always been top tier and is the driving force of the style and groove I remember the early 80's tour that Graham missed and Chester Thompson filled in Both CT's on stage....lol....cool to see Chester replaced for this tour with the keyplayer who replaced him in Tower of Power when he left to join Santana. Never seen a bad Santana performance and have seen a show almost every tour since 1982....a wise man grooves in bemused silence while jackass fool interjects uninformed viewpoint no more than spitting noise!!!HAHAHA. Ray you are spot on my friend
@@geetarman Definitely not in the same leaque with Shrieve, Dennis, Lear, or any of the rest of an amazingline of world clasds drummers. For a NY street performer she didn't suck but when you are playing your big solo and your rolls arent clean and you don't appear to have firm mastery of manipulating the dynamic by by retarding advancingh or nailing the beat at will you are lucky Carlos is your husband. I think Grahamhas been underrated cause in my opinion he isn't Coliutto but he is at that level
In the 80's I gave my longtime drummer a VHS tape Drum Clinic that featured Vinnyu, Gadd, Acuna, Graham Lenny,. Amazing all about complex time and odd time. Coliutto just blows minds. He sitss and plays to simultaneous beats on each side of his body...all the rest were just laughing...someone threw out what were you thinking about and Vinny said I wasn't thinking I was playing....couldn't do it if I was thinking...do or do not Yoda crap. A host asked the stupid question whats its like to be the world's greatest drummer and Vinny said I don't know whats it like Gadd!!
Buddy Miles sounds great here. I’ve heard lots of horror stories about Buddy’s behavior over the years. But this time it worked. I was at a Junior Brown show many years ago and his drummer was playing a snare with brushes. I kept thinking he looked familiar, until Junior announced it was Buddy Miles on drums. I nearly crapped my pants. He let Buddy finish the show by singing Them Changes. Brought the house down. He died shortly afterwards.
I'm months away from 65 and I have followed Santana since the first album, I was just a kid too. A beautiful choice for a wedding song :) Much love and light to you
die Info habe ich gerade gesucht. Danke!
No matter what band it is , or was, the whole thing is that moment when Carlos makes his statement, because that is the reason. That effortless magic that rolls off his fingers and makes everything alright.
Saw Santana with Bob Dylan at the then New Jersey Garden State Arts Center (shortly thereafter like practically every where nowadaze private corpiratized as the PNC Bank Otra Profit Centro) myself y amigos y amigas enjoyed our lawn seats y ganga-mild y soave complemento de incredibly Buenos verdad Musica Geniuses
Rockin', bluesin', soulin', groovin'; a jamming good set. Special cudos to the bassist. In fact, concerts like this one really make me miss the days when RU-vid would list the personnel. They all showed up on this one. Bravo!
The Best. A él, cero.
I saw santana in 73 at the Cleveland Browns Municipal Stadium, Saw mahavishnu orchestra, Weather report, and Santana at the Cavaliers Richfield Colosseum in maybe 75 or 76. 🙂
for many reasons, I think this is one of the best ever Santana concerts, God, they were smokin' !!! I saw them twice on the Freedom tour of '87 and they were sensational. Each and every band member giving it everything for the music starved East Berliners. Probably the most appreciated concert in history. Just listen to the crowd-absolutely. totally loving every second. Very special indeed. i read somewhere that this was one of the very few concerts that bought tears to Carlos' eyes. you can understand why. One of the best Santana line-ups too.
yep. Freedom was a strong album. Miles was clearly on top of his game. And shortly after drifted away again. But this is good stuff. Buddy played with the greatest. Hendrix and Santana.
i CAUGHT SHOWS ON THIS TOUR AND IT WAS ASTOUNDING. EASY TO FORGET HOW GOOD THE LINEUP[ WITH CT, ALPNONSO, AND GRAHAM. WAS. TRULY AMAZING!!!! ADD BUDDY AND ALEX PLUS THE PERCUSSION SECTION.....WOW Took my parents see this run. WOW...A FRIEND DARYL JOHNSON THE BASSIST FOR THE NEVILLE BROTHERS INTRODUCED ME AND MY PARENTS TO ALPHONSO ON THIS TOUR COOL BEANS. All caps cause it was that mind blowing and magical.
Two things that in my opinion I find quite rare: 1. Carlos plays the Rasta PRS which are super hard to find these days. 2. Carlos tests the Roland G-707 and waves it off after less than a minute of use.
Mr. Carlos Santana & Band You Guys are my Favorite, I've gone too 6 of your concerts in Phoenix, Az & each one has been Badass. Continue to spread your Love around the World through your Music. "Be Safe" & "Stay Healthy" "God Bless Each One of You"
Brilliant! Didn't know about this until today. Great sound. Strong guitar tone. You can hear everything including the bass. Buddy Miles is on top form too. Some serious jazz and blues in there as well. 1987? Wish Part 2 was available on here but thanks for uploading this part.
Fun, thakyou for sharing with no ads! What a treat 😊 From 1987? Carlos brings the best talent out of everybody. I listen to him daily for my dance to stay sane and healthy. 😊 Oh that Texas song is fucking amazing.
Tourner ! Valeu !!! Viva SANTANA e banda em todas épocas !
I saw that tour in Paris in 1987. The first time I saw Santana but I managed to see him maybe 5 or 6 more times during the next 10 or 12 years. He used to play here every year or almost. I remember especially a wonderful concert circa 1990, at the time of Spirits Dancing In the Flesh, where he improvised a lot. I lost interest with Supernatural, even though I bought some of his albums after this one.
This guyes, they give all the best of what could be given!!...After all, I mention Mr Santana, and obviously Mr Miles, that as seems puted a hell of a show, hooyehh! You lucky ones!!_to: Eddy Czesnick, and the rest of the world!!! Hudge elbow touch...
BUDDY MILES, DRUMMER, COMPOSER, MUSICIAN, FORMER MEMBER OF THE BAND OF GYPSIES WITH JIMMI HENDRIX AND BILLY COX ON BASS.....CHECK THE TUNE "" WHO KNOWS ""
and to Mr Miles, all my best!!! One! I am to ignorant to who sings what, and what´s that song, you sang, and was more then amazing you ...whith a hudge hug, for you, Friend!!!!!
