As a man whose is well into his 60's, growing up in SF Bay Area listening to his music now for over 5 decades has been such an honor. As all you know as we live in this world as it sinks deeper & deeper into decadence we need constantly to reach some type of inner peace & tranquility. Music is 1 of the keys to help us accomplish this. I dare to say that there is no one who can help us get there on a regular continual basis like Carlos Santana. To me he is the most diverse rock & roll musician ever to live up to this time. Who of us when at the beach, mountains trying to destress has not listened to Samba Pa Ti, Song of the Wind, Europa & perhaps played his music over & over again. There is not many musicians who have lived that has provided for us music we Never Ever tire of.
Concur, he has indeed taken me out of the fear and into the light, I have been deployed three times in my military career. He has always been there for me with his music to overcome any obstacles, his music transcends into me having a blessed life with all my familia. Viva Santana
This song is my forever song...... when I pass this is my everything.... my soul will dance.... my song will flow with the wind, with the music.... with all that is beautiful in my life.
Unfortunately I came across an article titled those who sold their soul for fame and fortune and there were quit a number of past and present recording artist who did. Santana was one of them it said. These people such as the likes of Eric Clapton, Stevie nicks, Jim Morrison , John Lennon many of your rap stars who you'll see giving off the hand signals on stage symbolizing their commitment to Saten. Charles Manson, Madonna, lady Gagga, Bob Dylan oh yeah even Prince and the list goes on. Look it up. these stars will describe how while performing their conscience is literally taken over by an entity. While sleeping their impulse in vivid dreams will drive them to wake up from a sleep to write a song feverishly. Some packs with the Devel have taken place at a spot called the cross roads in Missouri. Youll find more about this on RU-vid.
I BEEN LISTENING TO SANTANA SINCE THE SIXTIES AND STILL LISTEN TO HIS MUSIC NOW, I HAVE BEEN TO ABOUT 10 OF THEIR CONCERTS INCLUDING (US FESTIVAL -1) AWESOME TIMES 👍😁👍
Speaking for myself only I recognize many distinctive guitar players in the music world, past and present. But none in my view have the cool, calm, collected sound of Carlos Santana. He is the master.
This beautiful song is on "Caravanserai" Santana's fourth and in my opinion, their best, album. Incidentally Neal Schon is supposed to have done much of the playing in that recording of "Song of the Wind" . I find it very difficult to separate the two great guitars on the record, but I think I can hear both their voices distinctly here. Thanks for posting! And thanks to Carlos and Neal for so making this wonderful music.
That’s a good way of putting it, they both play wonderfully on Song of the Wind, and complement one another … interestingly Neil Schon as far as I have found anyhow, has not bettered what he accomplished here …
In my life I have listened a huge amount of tracks (rock, pop, blues, soul, jazz, classics, etc.) but my FAVORITE, and super-number one is Song Of The Wind by SANTANA. The Best of the Best.
From 71 thru 78 Carlos had his most inspired period. From guitar sound to music he was untouchable. Also add to that GREAT band of musicians and the best Rhythm section in the business.
Yes......and for me it narrows down between 1972 through 1973, when they had Doug Rauch on bass and Richard Kermode, mostly on the the Fender Rhodes. The energy and grooves were incredible and unmatched in any Santana band since IMHO of course.
while growing up in new jersey in 70's my older brother ..( rest in peace nicky )..played this song for me and up to this day when i need peace or to think or to thank GOD....this is the song i go to....no question's......the best song ever writtien or played anywhere........peace & love to everyone
Santana is FABULOUS. In 1976 the price of a ticket was $2.50!!! I cannot even imagine that.... His sound is so unmistakably unique. How wonderful to have a dream and make it come true as Santana did. He's given us so much.
carlos santana. a bottomless fount, a musician through whom the Ultimate reveals aspects of Itself...yes, thank you for aligning my life with this man's music
how a human can pack so much feeling and excitement in to an instrument, a whaling lead guitar in sheer ecstasy for the joy of others to perceive is beyond me, but I love it endlessly, ...endlessly. Thank you Carlos.
I once asked Michael Shrieve which guitar parts on the Caravanserai studio recording are Neal Schon and which parts are Carlos Santana....he replied, "I still can't figure it out."
Most beautiful song ever. Grateful to the great man Carlos Santana and Neal Schon and Greg Rolie for this gorgeous music that takes me away to a better place.
Best trilogy of albums ever released was Caravanserai, Welcome and Borboletta! Carlos has and will always rock! My grandkids listen to him and totally love the guitar work.
I heard Samba Pa Ti for the first time in 1974. I was very taken in by it listening over and over several times that first time. Yruly a beautifil melody, as is Song of the Wind.
This man is truly a legend as a musician. Great guitar player and songwriter. I have so much respect for musicians like him who have been so succesfull for many decades and are still succesfull making music.
Right there with ya!I was on my way to a rock festival were our local band had this song down and my bug broke down. It still was a good night pushed in my 8 track and made out with my date. I was 16! 😁
Simply beautiful. Hauntingly beautiful. From his heart and soul to ours. Thank you Mr. Santana for sharing your spirit with me (us). What an obvious gift from GOD YOU ARE !
Caravanserai is Santana's best LP. It was the soundtrack to my first experience of marijuana, so I have a special affection for it, back in '86 :) Happy days . .
Caravanserai was one of the most important albums of the 20th century IMHO. Nothing else like it- before or since. Carlos was at his best. I saw them live in August of 1973 shortly before the album was released. Mindblowing. A life and career changing experience.
Song of the Wind is one of my all time favorites, always makes me quiver but lay back and enjoy each and every note. I have seen Carlos in concert many times but never had the pleasure of hearing this tune live.....
Roy: Indeed one of the best songs of Santana ever. I wish I could have seen him perform it live but alas. I've been to quite a number of his concerts but I also never had the pleasure to see this song performed live. Well fortunately there's enough to be pleased about when visiting his concerts.
I play this when I play the kite, the kite equals freedom also. Just imagine, your kite is 500ft away from you drifting through the wind. Me and my friend play this song while we play the kite. The feeling we get when this song comes on can only be described as ultimated peace and freedom!! It just calms your soul if you know what I mean.
i rushed out as a 21yr old to buy Caravanserai at the time of its release and just played it to death,so much so that my brothers and sisters all became santana fans (my mum already was) because of "promotion" of the record, turned many others on to that genius work since then too. were us 50's/60's born kids spoiled or what? wouldn't swap it for anything.
I saw Carlos Santana in 1966 in Hayward California I was 9 years old and Carlos was 18. Now think about it this is three years before he went to Woodstock! Eastbay Battle of the bands, Carlos Santana! I was 9 years old! Then my friend played with Neal schon from journey before Neal schon plays with Carlos! Then I met sal Valentino! From the beau brummels!
Caravanserai will allways be my favourite Santana's Album. The best latin american guitar player, sharing the crown with the Argentinian Norberto Napolitano a.k.a. "PAPPO". Recommend everyone songs like "hubo distancias en un curioso baile matutino" or "sucio y desprolijo".
This is one "moving" performance on the guitar. He gets a unique sound that is only "Santana" no matter what guitar he plays. Unreal. I've been learning from him since I was 14 when I first heard Santa III (Man with outstretched hand) when it came out on vinyl and played it every night to get the solos memorized. A Legend; Carlos Santana.
I agree Lotus, Welcome, Caravanserai, Borboleta, Love Devotion and Surrender, Swing of Delight and Oneness Golden Dreams Silver Reality are milestones. Santana and bands were on a different plane soaring to unprecesdentant heights.
Santana has many good song's this is the corner stone song ! it's to bad he doesn't do it live any more I wish he would and then put on cd/dvd I would be the first in line to buy it.
There are other classics that stir the human spirit more than Song Of The Wind? Really? Hmmmm, I must not have heard them yet! A+ If I had .50 cents for every time I've heard this or the studio version I could buy a home in Palm Springs! Friggin masterpiece!
Carlos And Neal are both great! The much anticipated "Santana IV" will be released in mid-April. I can't wait to hear the two now mature guitar masters trading solos again.
+senders14 I did not know that! I'll bet it was awesome! They FLY on "Echizo" from Santana IV. As expected, they play wonderfully together on this new CD. Can't wait to see them at The Forum in L.A. on 8/28/16! Carlos and Neal are the best...
Part of the song is on RU-vid. Check Santana Song Of The Wind. I have a full version in much better quality than the video and it's outstanding. Blessings.
I remember reading in Deborah Santana's book "Space Between The Stars" a few years ago that when Caravanserai was released in 1972 she had a hard time distinguishing between Carlos and Neal as they traded solos on Song Of The Wind. They were simply telepathic with each other! Can't wait for Santana IV to come out in 2016 - Neal and Gregg are back!!!
+Richard Paniagua I always assumed it was Santana on lead until I read the details on wiki, probably they added up the minuets for each and Schon came out ahead by a few seconds.
Thanks for posting this. Santana’s best tune, imo; transports the listener to some sort of mystical, dream-like place. And the whole thing is just two chords. Incredible.
WOW! Thanks for posting this, I've been trying to get my bands over the years to play this song. Haven't yet ! I saw Santana at the Boston Garden in the early '70s and this song blew me away.
I watched them on the 13th of November at the Apollo and yep Sat the 13th was unluckily for me 'cos Neal and Gregg didn't join the band on that night. You were really lucky to be ! 2 x 7 =14 !
UNA PARTE DE MI VIDA ESTA EN ESTE TEMA DE CARLOS GRAZIAS CHICANO CUANDO MUERA ME LLEVARE TUS MELODIAS Y TUS MENSAJES ANUESTRO SENOR Y A LA VIRGENCITA DE GUADALUPE GRAZIAS HERMANO DEL MUNDO.
